Fresh from his victory in Reno, Sean's now in Las Vegas to fulfill his promise to help the lycans there with their own slavery problems. Thankfully there aren't any mages councils in Las Vegas, the mob took care of that years ago. However, there are a number of casinos that are still very entrenched in the use of lycan slaves, not just as workers, but as entertainment, both public and private.
Then there are all those magic users who come to 'sin city' to play, and many of them play rough when it comes to both the lycans and the mundanes. While shutting down those casinos that won't see reason will help, Sean still has to figure out ways to help Roxy's father and the others in their quest to rein in the worst of the excesses.
They may say that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but the truth is, what happens in Vegas could very well send a notice to the rest of the nation councils that things are changing, and this lion plays for keeps.

I'm new to the Harem / LitRPG thing (If I'd known more about LitRPG when I wrote Shadow, I might have incorporated more elements of that into it). I have a FT job, so I work on this when I can. Hopefully the next one will be even better. https://stryvant.blogspot.com/
Probably not the best book in the series but it was still pretty good. That rating is for the series as a whole. In this book Alex takes the fight to Vegas. Things have settled down in Reno and now he needs to go and try to free the slaves in other parts of the world. Roxy's dad is in Vegas, so there is already a framework in how to get this done. Things went pretty well for Alex and his group and there was not that much of a problem for them. I am just surprised he didn't end up with another wife!
Still tons of action, magic, character growth, and lots of lion lovin’! However now we enter the “resource simulation” story arc where the fight is much more about managing warfare, personnel, supplies, enemies, frienemies, and soon (!) - tag-teaming Johnny Law and Uncle Sam.
And for the record, I am shocked - shocked! - that Sean hasn’t picked up another wife yet. Where’s the uppity yet besotted High Elf? (Oh the chats she would have with Cali...) Cat girl? Raptor? Robot? Dragon? Hmm...
Nonetheless: great stuff, and definitely recommended.
When this author said that the last arc series for this story was over, I figured it was code for the series is over. Period. That's usually been the experience, heck some authors can't even pull it together enough to make the next books for their on going series. Good on stryvant for keeping, keeping on instead of just bailing. I'm looking forward to seeing how uncle Sam responds to the lycan revolution.
The description sounded kinda cool and different, but the writing, story line and character development was........ well......... just lacking. Was hoping for a fun, thrilling, twisted and unique adventure, and this one didn't deliver for me.
This is a combination review of the entire 17+ book series as I binged the entire The Valens Legacy over the about a month.
The Positives: - The writing is really good. Often when I binge an author things like their crutch words become constant irritants that didn't happen here. - Stryvant doesn't mess around. The plot never really stops or meanders, each story having important events that carry the narrative forward. - There's two maybe three arcs in this series but each flow one into another smoothly so it all seams like a natural progression. - All the arcs are entertaining and engaging I always wanted to know what would happen next or figure out the mystery. - The Main character rides the line of being a Gary Stu never really crosses that line. - Functional magic system and cohesive world.
The Negatives: - The pervasive fetish portions. Even during serious portions Stryvant will often break my immersion with sexual talk or fetishes. - Repetitive sex and romance. It does get better later in the series, but since Stryvant's fetishes don't change over the course of the book neither do these scenes. I started skipping them, but he'd often stick important plot points in the middle of them. - The women characters tend to be on the bland side and over sexualized.
I’m trying to figure out why I enjoy this series so much. This isn’t as easy as you would think because there are a lot of weaknesses in these books: the different types of were creatures are barely differentiated from each other and all seem basically human with the ability to change shape; only a couple of the characters are well developed; the hero has a growing number of women falling over themselves to have sex with him and pledging their love despite the fact that there is nothing charismatic about him (I guess we can always say that’s part of the magic of being a lion were); the hero is almost never actually challenged; and the overall feel of each book is that it was rushed to market a couple of revisions too early.
Yet for all of that, this is an enjoyable series and I look forward to each new book. They are generally fast paced, and the plans of action for each new encounter are usually well thought out. The overall situation (were creatures fighting for freedom from slavery from the wizards) is fascinating and the author does a good job of getting into the heads of the villains. It’s enough to make the series a lot of fun.
Not very original, but an enjoyable addition to the series. If you liked the previous six books, you will likely enjoy this one as well; and vice versa.
The main character, much-married Sean Valens, is continuing his struggle to free the Lycans (shifters) from magical oppression, while keeping the norms in the dark about the supernatural struggles. There are a couple of subplots featuring other characters, but most of the book is centered on Sean.
Sean's harem is actively involved in the revolution, but because of their number, each of his mates gets only a small amount of narrative time. The arc which started with Reno and has now included Las Vegas seems likely to continue nation-wide or even global. There is plenty of room for further adventures in this series.
I was happy that the vestigial and awkward LitRPG elements from previous books did not reappear in this one.
Sean and his pride travel to Las Vegas to help Roxy's father get a handle on excessive behavior by Mages and to free Lycans. Snarky humor is at its best. Action abounds and I like the love Sean and his pride have for each other. Miscreants in Vegas learn that a lion is in town and that not bowing down to him can be hazardous to their health. Will Sean be able to control his ego as the people he saves show adoration for him? I look forward to the next book.
Excellent especially for a book deep into a series.
Fun world to return to. The relationships between Sean and his family now established provides a solid foundation for facing big new challenges.
More exploration and practical applications of the "magic is like coding" sub-theme.
The continuing slow-reveal of the cosmology surrounding lion lycanthropes and world history is fun to see unfold. And still remains shrouded in mystery.
And its always satisfying to see really bad guys get their heads cut off with dramatic finality.
I would give this book more stars if the author hadn't made Sean act so stupidly in this one. The character I know wouldn't be almost having sex with one of his wives during an important meeting with the Lycan counsel! That right there ruined this one for me. I know there is a lot of sex happening in these and out a bit much but it never ruined the story for me before. Sean not acting like a leader and more like a high school boy with hormone issues that CAN'T keep his pants zipped.
These books don't have a lot of substance, predictable and too much sex. The lion is supposed to be a mega Alpha, but he's really a wussy submissive angry kid. Very annoying. Every girl manipulates him, his wives like to take him down pegs while they steal his power and lift themselves up. They should be building him up! He obviously needs more real confidence, not just bulldoze tough confidence. Author needs some advice from a true alpha on how he should think and act with females.
Most of the book is fluff or pointless to the reader.
The fluff: WAY too many sex scenes. The author needs to decide if he wants to write smut, or about a revolution to free his people and to set things right. We don't need a blow-by-blow every time he has sex with one of his wives. Too much of the book, and there is very little there to start with, is either descriptions of sex, alluding to sex, or joking about sex.
The pointless: We don't need to know the specifics of how problems get solved. The main character has underlings; trust them to get the job done. We don't need to know how it happens, only that it does.
The pacing was also off. the climactic scene occurs near the middle of the book. with the rest of the book being a setup for the next book.
The action never stops Sean and company take on releasing more lycans from Las Vegas and taking on the magic users holding them captive. If you don’t like hot and heavy sex with multiple wives. Don’t read this book. If you want a great story with action and hot characters this is your book.
I love how incredibly prolific writers like Stryvant and Michael-Scott Earle are, because it's much easier to stay on track with the series. The writing is great and improving, the harem is fun, and the stories enjoyable to follow as he Sean builds his empire. The magic users have a wonderful comeuppance on the horizon...
I really like this serie. I started it as an experiment to try something different and from that moment on it seems I cannot stop reading. I am used to read john conroe, drew hayes, jim butcher, benedict jacka, ben aaronovich. To me the stories of those writers are a significant part of my life. As of now the stories of Jan Stryvant are part of it too.
I read through the book rather quickly and will need to have another more in-depth and leisurely read. Otherwise, the contents were enjoyable and in line with the rest of the series.
If you liked the other books you will like this one too. Can’t wait for the next one next month. Oh and check out the audio books for this series if you haven’t already, good stuff and they are in packs of two. (1&2, 3&4, etc).
Loved this book. We got to hear a bit more of the lion lore which I always enjoy. Excited for Deidre! Love when I see Sean law down the law like to anyone and it happened several times in this book. Looking forward ho the next book.
The book is a great start for the new arc. Loose ends all wrapped up, hints of the new direction and more Stewart! I'm really starting to like the kid. The last scene is a great kick off for what's to come.
I really like this series. I'll continue to look forward to the next book. Plus, even though there's a lot of hetero-sex, that the author included some gay background characters increases my appreciation for writer and series.
A fast paced plot with plenty of twist that drive you to read on. If it wasn't for my kindles battery running out i probobly would have finished it in one sitting. Can't wait for the next one. ^^
Sean and his beautiful family rubs the Vegas magic users the wrong way and saves a lot of lycans from a date worse than death. Lots of action and lots of lovin that I know you will enjoy. Another great story, thanks Jan!
I just as it was with the others I couldn't put down.the characters are so human for all that very few are "human" . I read every book cover to cover.I highly recommend the complete series.
I thought this book was an interesting read. A fun read. If you enjoy the sear is so far a definite read. Much more put together than last book. You do have to read the other books to know what is going on
Our hero picks up where the last book ended; Sean’s quest to free his people moves to Vegas. The main character is a little more ruthless and darker in this installment, but the winning formula is still working.
This is the start of the second arc and I am pumped up to see where it’s going. Sean is looking like he is definitely getting the hang of leading and I can’t wait to see how if he changes on of his other gaming pals.
