Book One of The Fans of Football Series

Liz
A bond. A connection. Our difference in color didn’t matter; we were made for each other. A love so strong nothing could come between us—until someone did. Faced with an ultimatum, I made the only decision I could but it was never about skin color, for me. Saying good-bye to him left me in pieces, never to be the same without him.
Now, many years later, I am face to face with the man no one could ever compare to. The feelings I’ve pushed aside for him threaten to boil over. I must fight them. I can’t go back. I need to protect my family, myself.

Israel
Here I am, face to face with the one that got away, the one that abandoned me, the one no other woman could measure up to. I still need to know why she left. Did she leave me for her family money? Was it my skin color? She left by choice, leaving me broken. I’ve never been the same without her.
But now that she’s in front of me, I can’t let her get away again. My slightest touch leaves her covered in goose bumps. Liz is using everything she has not to give in. I hope she will. I need her to be mine, to once again be my Buttercup.

Triggers: This book depicts an interracial couple. This book has areas of ignorance and racism and violence associated with it.

This is my third read from this author and each book just gets better.

Liz and Iz are in love in college. So in love they think they have their forever planned out. Then secrets and family hatred rips them apart. Fast forward until fate pushes them together again. Their chemistry is exactly the same but both are different/jaded people as adults. Will long held secrets finally come out? Will mistakes be forgiven? Will they allow themselves to have their HEA this tme round? It's a well written, dual POV story and I really enjoyed. Recommend if you're looking for a second chance romance that touches on some tough subjects and handles them really well.

I received an arc of this book.

Since picking up my first Leigh Lennon book, I’ve found myself to be quite the fan. I powered through my first three Leigh Lennon books, when I got my hands on the next two I powered through them as well, and each individual book I have received since then has been devoured. I consistently enjoy Leigh Lennon’s work, but I will be honest and say I haven’t enjoyed my last two Leigh Lennon books quite as much as I enjoyed my prior Leigh Lennon books. This is not to say they were bad books, simply that my last couple of reads have not been my favourites.

In all honesty, I’m falling into a trap readers often fall into. Instead of comparing a book to every book I have read (somewhat difficult, I assure you, considering the number of books I read), I find myself comparing a book to other books by the author. It is a case of ‘I liked x by this author more than I liked y by this author’. Sure, we like to watch as an author develops across their career, but sometimes I fear we fall into a trap that has us frowning upon books we wouldn’t usually frown upon because it is not as good as something else written by the same author.

In this case, I find myself doing so in relation to the emotional element of this story. Leigh Lennon has ripped me apart in the past with her emotional storylines, and I had hoped the same would be true with Color Blind. Although there were emotional moments within this story, I found it was not to the degree I had expected it to be. In fact, I found the aspects of the story that were to be emotional rather predictable. It was not a bad story, it simply wasn’t what I had expected.

If I am being completely honest, I was unsure about this one for most of the first half of the book. It had potential but it was not hitting the marks I had been expecting. I think my issue with this one was the speech of the characters. I’m no stranger to crass words – in fact, I have one hell of a potty mouth and it probably explains why so few people wish to come back for a repeat conversation with me – but in the case of this story I felt as though it did not fit. I felt as though characters were crass for the sake of being crass, as a way to make the story seem different, and it pulled the reader out of the story rather than sucking us in. I know some people are like this – as I said, I’m such an individual myself – yet it did not fit with the storyline.

The second half of the book I enjoyed much more. Things came together really well, and although I worked out all of the secrets, I enjoyed watching the way everything came together. The second half certainly seemed to come together much better than the first half, pulling things together really well and pulling at some of those emotions Leigh Lennon is so good at evoking.

I’m certainly interested in reading the next book in the Fans of Football series (even if I am a bit tentative about some of the elements that are going to come into play), as I feel as though there has been a lot of potential opened up for this series.

While Color Blind is not my favourite Leigh Lennon read, I can certainly see a lot of readers really enjoying this one.

Leigh Lennon What Have you DONE!!! YOU LEFT ME SPEECHLESS!!! SPEECHLESS!!! I LOVE THIS BOOK!! It's alittle different then her other books but This Is No Exception in her passion for writing!!
THIS Book has dual POV's and takes you back 16 years to get the Backstory to present day. Elizabeth aka Liz and Isreal aka Iz met in college and in the matter of months, fell in love and never saw the difference in skin color. Love is color blind in all aspects of life, just like we bleed the Same Color and breathe the same air. But Liz's father never saw that and only saw the color of Iz's skin to the point of threatening Liz to break up with him. Of course, Secretive lies and family hatred breaks them apart.
So fast forward 16 years where fate puts them together face to face but still Emotionally hurt from their past endurance. Their Chemistry is Still OFF the Charts HOT and leaves you wanting more. This Book is Beautifully written and it has All the Feels you can ask for in a Second Chance Romance. You are Not going to want to Put This Book Down since you wanna know what is going to happen next.
COLOR BLIND has a diverse range of feelings and not for the Faint of Hearts because it deals with sensitive subjects. Liz and Iz's story surprisingly has Twists & Turns that will leave you Speechless AND wanna throw your Tablet across the room but Yell at the characters themselves. It's such an Suspenseful Emotional Rollercoaster Ride of Raw Emotions!! THIS IS A MUST READ BOOK!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

As my second read from this author, I have to say I'm officially addicted to her work. She's not afraid to take on risky topics and turn it into a page turning story.

I say that because in this book she took on a topic that is still hard for some people to speak about, and she did it well.

There was a great balance of drama, steam, humor and suspense. I felt that Iz and Liz balanced each other very well.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! I definitely recommend it!

Liz and Iz are in love in college. They are so deeply in love that they plan their lives together. Things are going perfectly until things aren’t. Liz comes from wealth and has really so little while Iz with dark skin and poverty running his family is quite the opposite. Liz and Iz don’t see color or differences, just the love they have for one another until suddenly things aren’t. Liz separates with no explanation and eventually they take different paths but never move on. Then years pass and then they are brought together and wow its like night and day difference in Liz and Iz. There is some serious deep emotional angst, tension, drama, and pain that you feel while reading this story. There are some nasty villians in this story and some huge twists and turns in this 2nd chance at love romance. All I can say is this was one emotional roller coaster of a romance. It’s the explantation the Liz gives to Iz as to why she had to leave that will have you grabbing tissues. My heart broke for her and for all she had to go thru before she was reunited with Iz. This is one story that stays with you long after its over. The main characters and the secondary ones introduced are amazing.

My Rating: 4.2 stars *****

I received this book as an ARC from a new to me author Leigh Lennon. I saw the title and jumped at the chance to read. I am excited to say this book was AMAZING! I knew after reading the prologue that Iz and Liz shared a once in a lifetime love. I knew there were be heartache concerning racism. But the story is so much more. There is definitely heartache but there is betrayal, secrets, love, second chances, greed, and sacrifices. The story will capture you from beginning to end!

When Iz and Liz meet in college, there is a pull neither can deny although so many looked upon them as wrong because of their racial differences. But how can love be wrong? Iz is the strong protective man Liz needs. While Liz is the loving woman that smooths Iz with just a look. How can something that feels so right be so wrong? But there is so much more to their story. The twists will have you flipping the pages to get the whole story. And what a story it is!!

Ms. Lennon does an incredible job drawing you into the story. The book has flashbacks to times in Iz and Liz's life to help up you understand what they were feeling and going through. To me this helps build the love you know is present between Iz and Liz. Beautifully done!!

I could write in detail how much I loved the book, but I don't want to give the story away. It's one you know has an epic love story that spans over time, but it's the extras in the story that will blow you away!

Awesome read!!!! Definitely worth reading!

This is the first book I have read by Leigh Lennon and it take me a while to get into Color Blind but I was so glad I persevered because I really enjoyed this story and I loved the characters. This book is told in the dual POV and it does go back and forth between now and the past 16 years.
Liz and Iz met and feel in love whilst they were in college they were meant to be forever but secrets and family problems split them up fast forward 16 years and fate brings them together again and the chemistry is as sizzling now as it was all those years ago but will love work out for them this time around and will they allow themselves a HEA.
A well written second chance romance that also touches on some tough subjects with characters that are easy to fall in love with.

I was given an advanced readers copy of this book and have decided to leave a voluntary honest review. I have to say color blind is one of the best books I've read this year so far. It was truly amazing, amazing other things. This book will pull you out of your comfort zone and make you really think, and see not everyone is with out times in this day and age. Racism suck's its still a huge issue even now. But it is what it is. The bottom line is who can't help who your heart falls for, all you can do is protect them. I know with everything I am my one goal in this life is my daughter and unborn baby are my first priority, they come above everything anything else. Leigh you are truly inspiring I'm honored to call you a friend.

I absolutely enjoyed reading Iz & Liz's second chance at love. Even after all the years spent apart, the chemistry between them was still there, no matter how hard Liz tried to fight it. But, Iz was definitely persistent and knew that he wasn't going to give up this opportunity to be with the one that got away.

I love a good sports romance. I love a good second chance romance! And I love me some forbidden love! 😍. Iz and Liz are the perfect 2nd chance couple. So many things happened to tear them apart, and keep them apart! Liz had a controlling father who uses the love she has for her sister to keep her in line. 😤. Liz has so much to come clean about before they can start again. She just wants to know that he trusts her before she tells him. There are so many twists in this story it really kept my interest! I kept wanting to know what was going to happen next!
Leigh has taken a very touchy subject and told the story. She did a fantastic job of telling the story with out being offensive. LOVED the story of Iz and Liz! ❤️💛♥️💛♥️💛

Color Blind is my third read from author Leigh Lennon. Technically, I have read 2.5 books before this one since I have completed two books as well as read myself through half of Stockholm (in my limited free time) and it’s safe to say I LOVE her writing. Stockholm is shaping up to be my personal favorite but limited personal time (verses the reading I do for my blog) has prevented me from finishing it yet. I always find myself halfway in-love with Lennon’s heroes – although right now, Iz is definitely my favorite! This football/second chance romance is told in duel perspectives which I always favor over signal perspective stories. Getting to know both characters deeply enhances a romance for me and with this duel POV, readers will experience the depths of despair both Iz and Liz meet with before finding their HEA.

description

The story centers around the affects racism, secrets and hatred can have on a relationship. It was crafted well - a beautiful layering of sweetness, angst and super sexy along with secrets kept from the reader to lend an air of mystery. The love between Iz and Liz is not just sweet and deep, but sexy as hell! Be forewarned, you will need a cold shower after this one! As far as heroes go, Iz is strong from the very beginning. His love for Liz is deep and true. His passion for football and his lady make him more realistic as a man for me. I read many romances where the hero is great but somehow doesn’t jive for me as a realistic man. Despite Iz’s persistence he faced intense heartache in his quest to remain true to the love he felt for Liz and his pain spoke to me the most of the two main characters. On the other hand, the character growth of Liz’s character particularly, was beautiful and very well done on Lennon’s part. Although I found myself disagreeing with her choices at intervals throughout the story which left me wanting to give her a piece of my mind, it was these choices that made her character progression possible.

description

I must say that overall I greatly enjoyed reading Color Blind. However, I did not rate it as a five-star read because I wasn’t as torn up emotionally as I anticipated based on the blurb and subject matter. That’s not to say the book is bad, because it’s absolutely not! In fact, it’s a great book! I just found that a few of the elements that were emotionally charged were perhaps slightly more predictable for me than I would have liked. However, I read a TON! And fall into that category of avid reader that finds it hard to be surprised by a book a vast majority of the time. The progression of the story was also a slight problem for me - it slowed down a few times. And yet, overall, I would definitely recommend Color Blind for readers who enjoy second chance love stories, sports romance, or stories that balance out the sweet and the sexy!

This book is an amazing read. The storyline is powerful, emotional and moving. The characters are likable, share such a beautiful emotional connection and steamy chemistry. This book blew me away. The emotional intensity is very high and you will find yourself completely immersed in Liz and Iz's romance. Heartwarming and yet so heartbreaking, the journey that these two have to take on the road to their HEA will put your emotions through the ringer. Filled with sweetness, drama, passion, betrayal, pain, heartbreak, stunning secrets, shocking twists and a love strong enough to weather the storm. This poignant love story will make you smile, laugh and cry. It will make you angry that hate always seems to be lurking and totally horrified at the things it will make people do. I felt so much for both these characters. Iz is such an awesome guy and if once or twice he made me mad, in the end I could understand and he more than made up for it. As for Liz, my heart cracked in two for her. The pain, the guilt, the sacrifice, the terrible choices she had to make and the things she suffered were so terrible. I can't even put all my feelings into words. A wonderful read that stuns, entertains and will touch your heart. This is a book that I don't think I will ever forget. It is a five star read and well deserving of a place on your keeper shelf. This is a completely honest voluntary review.

This is my first book by this author, and the title leaves no surprise as to it's key focus.
This is story of instant attraction that builds slowly to intense and committed love, only to be torn apart by racial prejudice and family interference. But it's more than that, the true issues here at least in my mind, were trust and loyalty, and I was a little disappointed that so much reference was placed so frequently on "colour" when there was more to this story.

The author built and portrayed her characters beautifully; Iz the African American quintessential star quarterback, with body of an adonis and a truely noble heart, he wasn't hard to imagine or swoon over, and Liz, the ethereal blonde Southern belle with secrets and an uneasy trust was a perfect contrasting match for our hero.
Their separation was heartbreaking though somewhat predictable, and their reconnection was expectedly uncomfortable, but I struggled with the to and fro of Liz's emotions and I couldn't quite relate to her, particularly the crass language. I'm not afraid of bad language, it just didn't fit her or was well placed within the story to be authentic.

I also didn't think the recollections of the past supported the present events in the storyline quite as well as they could but otherwise enjoyed the insight into how their relationship came about.
The latter part of the book was more solid and the unfolding events with the rekindling of their bond was well executed, and the secrets revealed gave this story a great finish.

Truly enjoyed this book. It stirred several emotions in me. I think this book is unfortunately current and timely. When I say unfortunately, I mean the subject matter is unfortunately true, not the book is unfortunate. The book is on point in many aspects. It will keep you on your toes and guessing until the end. I read this book in one sitting.
As you can tell by the title of the book it’s about racism. Incorporated into the story is love, betrayal, and dealing with many issues we face in today’s society. There’s also mystery, drama, angst, sweetness, romance, understanding and don’t worry there’s heat. At times I became frustrated with Liz. I thought if she would just come clean with what was going on confusions could be cleared up. The thing is, in real life people do this all the time. We make decisions for other people because we think we know what’s best for them. So life is messy and unpredictable even in the best of circumstances. Iz was someone I could see any woman being drawn to. Yes, he was flawed, they both were. Guess what, everyone is! That’s what makes this book closer to real life. The only character I had a hard time identifying with is Iz’s ex wife, Kendra, at first. I say this cause I thought she had to be the most understanding person in the world. However, when I thought about her. I came to believe that yes, I get her.
I wish I did spoilers, I don’t! This book is certainly a good discussion starter. I will say that it brings to the surface the question of can true love overcome any circumstance? Well you have to read the book to answer that question!
Like I said in the first sentence I really enjoyed this book.

-Kacie, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a new to me author and I really didn’t know what to expect. The blurb sounded really interesting but the reality is so much more.

I love the writing style, it was different but in a good way. I like that it was dual perspective and how it jumped back to Liz and Iz’s past to learn their history. I thought the storyline was very unique, but some instances felt like it went a little overboard. I like how one of the main themes of the book dealt with the issue of race. In this day and age, it shouldn’t be an issue or a big deal. But I thought it was written tastefully and while it depicted most southern men to be complete and total idiots, not all southerners are like that!

Liz and Iz met in college sixteen years ago. They had an instant connection to each other, but things happened that kept them apart. They reconnect by chance and they finally get their second chance at a happily ever after. There is a lot more to this story but I don’t want to chance giving it away.

There were a lot of twists and things that I didn’t see coming. I thought it was a great story and I’m hoping Candace and Lang get their own book.

So I’m not really sure why I’m surprised that I loved this book so much because I tend to love all of this authors work but this book stood out for me. The thing I can’t figure out is why; yes the author touched on some really tough subjects but as always, she does it with class. Yes, the characters were amazingly strong and yet vulnerable, but again, Leigh always writes great characters. The only thing I can think of is that this book really showed the depth and sacrifice for love. Not to mention that if you have read any of her other work, you will see the growth and maturity of this author, and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.

Iz and Liz met in college and their were sparks from the moment they met, not that Liz was ready to jump straight in but Iz wore her down. From that moment on, they were inseparable. At least until her Daddy finds out and for the first time their interracial relationship becomes an issue. Suddenly Liz is faced with the hardest decision of her life... Does she continue to put her sister first or keep the love of her life?

Now 15 years later, they come face to face and all the emotions from their past rush forward. They have to figure out how to move past it. But secrets and insecurities keep them at arms length. How can they possibly move forward from the hurt and betrayal?

This book should definitely be on your must read TBR!

5 colorful stars since nothing about this story is black 'n white

Liz Declan/Eliza Parker and Israel Laita need a second chance for the first and only love to happen.

Jeez Leigh Lennon with this story you rocked my boat. It's beauty and perfection and a lala land of emotions.

Liz comes from wealth and has so little, Iz with dark skin and poverty running his family is quite the opposite but from the start they don't see the differences but a bright future together. Until they don't. Liz separates with no explanation and eventually they take different paths but never move on.

To read about Liz past, Iz struggle to understand, their obstacles and hurdles made by outstanders left me speechless, breathless, sleepless, tearful. I guessed half the story from the get going but was slapped into the face by the other half. Leigh Lennon created a web of lies and hurt and suffer and joy, sparkled with a very unique love story to get lost in.

I highly recommend this book.

What a beautiful second-change romance delivered by the wonderful Leigh Lennon. She hit all the points you'd want in a racially charge romance dealing with bigots and acceptance. The book goes back and forth from present to the past, giving a full range of Liz and Israel's history and how these two truly felt for one another if not for the interference of her horrid father. Liz is one of Leigh's toughest heroines to date, she writes strong, willful heroines and Liz is at the top of the tree having lost her one true love and taking care of her sister, she's had to be ball busting strong. I really liked that about her, and her vulnerable side when she allowed it to show. I love a full rounded heroine who isn't just one thing or another. Israel was dreamy. Definitely this will be my fave Leigh book to date.
Can't wait for the next book in this Fans of Football series.

Color Blind by Leigh Lennon is a powerful story about second chances and the importance of remembering that things aren't always so black and white. This story follows an interracial couple, Liz and Iz, as they face ignorance and racism from those around them. Together they prove that love can conquer all and that it's not the color of our skin that makes us who we are, but the heart and soul we have! I've got to say that I really liked this couple and thought that the author did an incredible job addressing some heavy subjects throughout their story!

After reading this story it's hard to believe that this is the first book I've read from Leigh Lennon, but let me just say that I cannot wait to check out her backlist and her future releases! I strongly recommend one-clicking this story if you love second chances with some heavy moments!

This is my second book I've read of this Authors and I'm just as impressed. I loved the whole story line and absolutely fell in love with Liz. She's an independent, fiesty woman who knows what and who she wants. Iz is the guy she let go 15 years ago. The dark skinned man she gave up because it was the right decision at the time. I loved the flashbacks in the book as it have more to the book. I absolutely believe in second chances. Iz and Liz were born to be together, no matter what. No secrets or people were going to stand in their way anymore. I thought this was a beautifully written story about how you can't help who you fall in love with. There isn't anything wrong with loving someone who isn't the same race or ethnicity as yourself. Love free and be happy. I definitely recommend this book💚💚

There are many books that I’ve read over the years that have touched me deeply, but very few have ever stuck with me the way I know Color Blind will. There is so much to this deeply emotional unbelievably beautiful book I don’t even know where to begin. Leigh Lennon delivers a story that hits you right in the feels with this book.
Iz and Liz are the definition of true love. The cruelty of Liz’s father may have kept them apart, but nothing in the world took away the unconditional love these two have for each other. My heart broke so many times for them while reading their story. Not gonna lie, you’ll need the tissues. But for every tear there was a moment that was so breathtakingly sweet my heart could barely stand it.
A second chance between two people who never stopped loving each other, but a past filled with jaw dropping secrets this book will keep you glued to the pages!

Great read!!

4.5
This is an emotional story with many facets and surprises along the way. Liz and Iz have a love (and fire hot chemistry) that defines time, circumstance, mistakes, and more. Life and love are messy and this is a second chance romance showcasing just how true that is. Race made a difference in their story but it did not define that story or its outcome. Lennon did a great job with a tricky and potentially upsetting topic. It was also not their only or biggest issue. This was a good read and I recommend, especially to those looking for a well done second chance romance. The hot football player doesn't hurt either. ;)

Whoa!!!

Amazing! That is what this book is. This story took an issue that is still prevalent today and tackled it with beauty. I LOVED the story of Iz and Liz. Their second chance was an honor to witness. I was totally absorbed in their story and love d the dynamic, not only between them, but also the other characters. I am positively looking forward to reading more by this author.

Enjoyable

This was the first book i have read by this author. It was interesting and gripping from beginning to end. I enjoyed reading about Liz and Is. A love built that should have been long lasting but to many things hateful things got in the way. Some suspense but that suspense made this story line interesting once you learn the truth. A great read.

This book was heartbreaking and beautiful. I seriously couldn’t put it down. It reminded me of my cousin Kara’s relationship with her husband Gregg. My uncle didn’t accept him at first because he was worried about how the world would see their children. He eventually came around and they have a great relationship. I think this is my favorite Leigh Lennon book yet!

Loved this book. It is very character driven and the two main characters kept me up late nights and struggling to work during the day. The emotional roller coaster was truly something I am going to have to take time to recover from. I am looking forward to seeing more books added to this series. Hopefully some of them will be the happy endings so some of the wonderful secondary characters that were introduced in this book.

I love Love loved this book.
This couple started off slow and got to know each other; they became each other’s everything - friend, best friend and lovers. They thought they could overcome the haters - but when they are family, it’s tough. Blackmail and despicable acts surround Liz, she can’t explain to Iz - yes Liz & Iz - but years pass and they are brought together, finally explanations are spoken - bring on the HEA!
Such a good book, again, Leigh Lennon is truly a gifted writer - I was right there in the book 😬!

From beginning to end this book captured me. I felt so many emotions reading this book.. shed a few tears. There is heartache, betrayal, greed and sacrifices but above all of that there is Liz and Iz's love and their devotion to those they love. You can feel it coming off the pages it surrounds you.

This book was everything I hoped it would be and more. You will definitely not be disappointed. One of my top reads for 2018 so far!

Liz and Iz were totally in love with each other, colour didn’t matter to them, but living in the South it mattered to her father and stepmother, so her father made her decide between the two people she loved most, and she chose to walk away from Iz. 16 years pass and they meet again, they are now both divorced and Iz wants answers and a second chance. Liz has just set up her own law business and wants to concentrate on that. They both still love each other, but the secrets that Liz has could keep them apart. When things take a turn for the worse and Liz finally tells Iz the truth can he see past the betrayal and build a future with her.
