Diminution: Marginal Essence

Rate this book
During a precarious time, a man awakens to a suffocating reality. Humanity had lost its domination of the earth and human society was starting to disappear. A benevolent technology with intelligence had become the caretaker of the world along with all life forms.
The face of the intelligent technology was the robots, who for the most part, had taken on human form as they integrated into the human world. Humans were initially apprehensive and frightened by the robots, but slowly they began to accept them into their world.
The robots and technology behind them took care of everything. People were provided with anything they desired as they were lulled into a sense of complacency.
The robots had no desire to conquer or control the world. The human-like robots were no more than a benevolent force trying to help humans be comfortable and happy during their short lives. The technology felt no emotion nor did it experience ambition. Its purpose was only to bring stability to the inhabitants of the earth. As time went by the majority of humans had adapted to this type of life.
Life had become too easy, as humans slowly became consumed by their inability to escape their technological prison. The society they had known and lived in was disappearing. People were isolated and connected at the same time while none were able to comprehend the meaning of their lives.
Desire had become the driving force behind most people’s lives, where their needs were fulfilled through technological or robotic means. Unaware of the damage it was doing, the technology, devices and robots gave the people an idyllic existence. Each day the trap grew stronger.
Only when it was too late did humanity realize they had become too helpless to take care of themselves. By that time people had lost confidence in their abilities and were too afraid to lose the comfortable lives, they were given.
Diminution is a time of diminished human potential. It is a story about the different ways humanity responds when faced with a loss of purpose. It is a story about how a few individuals begin a quest in search of hope with unexpected consequences.

Interesting situations that cause you to examine what life and relationships mean to you

Fascinating look at lives lived in alternate realities where people can transition from one reality to another while holding onto their humanity. There are struggles between people who want to destroy those with different beliefs. This book hooked me fairly quickly and opened various areas of thought about what our world could become given he advancing state of technology. Excellent book. Highly recommend.
