Can a reformed player ever truly play by someone else's rules?

Sam Walsh has finally put an end to decades of self-destruction and turned over a healthy new leaf, and now he's ready to call himself a married man. But love and marriage are only the beginning, and life is about to get much more complicated.

Will tying the knot tie down a free spirit?

Tiel Desai never imagined herself getting married again, and before she can blink, she's swept up into the Walsh wedding whirlwind. If that chaos isn't enough, she's also busy winning over her future in-laws, grappling with a bumpy adjustment to her new job, and staying afloat when a string of disappointments hit.

They're building a future, but can they ever fully demolish the past?

Sam and Tiel beat back their demons and learned to love each other, but love might not be enough to solve every problem that crawls their way.

I adored it so much I read it in one sitting. There were laughs, tears, a few aww moments and then more laughter. All in all, the perfect postscript to Sam and Tiel’s story, Necessary Restorations. If you haven’t read this series, start from the beginning (book one is free right now) and thank me later - the Walshes are a family worth getting to know.

I know I should read this series from the very beginning. Or at least Necessary Restoration before I read Restored. So I am a but confuse with the story between Teal and Sam. But in the hand of Miss Canterbary, I can not resist. She always have this hero who is selfish, quirky, vulnerable and cute. So cute. Has a sarcastic humor. I have a soft spot for her heroes.

In nutshell, Restored is about the love story/ journey of their marriage. The high and low of marriage. Their love is strong and swoon worthy. I love how Sam strengths lifts up Teal and hold them together. I now wants to read the beginning of their love story.

5 perfect stars!

I am a mad fan of all things Walsh, and Sam and Tiel are one of my favourite couples of the series. This book is a continuation of their story and there was no way I wasn’t going to love it, but I was still knocked on my ass by this book because it was absolutely perfect! Funny, sexy, surprisingly emotional and beautifully romantic, it was everything I wanted, and I absolutely loved it!

Sam and Tiel’s story ended beautifully in Necessary Restorations, and we saw their relationship progress a bit more in the last book, The Cornerstone. This book takes us slightly back in time, starting at the emotional end of Necessary Restorations, and then picking up after that book’s epilogue and through the events of The Cornerstone with the second half of the book taking us into the future.

This book is definitely not one that you should read as a standalone. At the very least, you should read Necessary Restorations for the first part of Sam and Tiel’s story, but ideally you need to read all of these books – in order – to fully appreciate the dynamic between the group and the overarching storylines. These siblings have been through so much together and to see them growing and coming so far is something truly special.

Sam and Tiel have been through a lot together. They’ve had their hard times, but they’ve come through it, and this book is all about them being stable and happy, and finding their way forward together. They are madly in love, they are deeply committed, and their relationship is never in question, but they still have some demons to contend with and their journey is not always an easy one. This book had me in tears, my heart broken for what they go through, but their strength, their love and their deep connection is beautifully explored as they stand strong and are there for each other unquestionably.

“We’re going to make it work. We’re going to figure it out … Tell me, Tiel. Tell me we’re gonna last because I can’t have you right now if this isn’t real.”
“It’s real,” I said. “We’re real.”

These two just ‘get’ each other. They are honest and open, and they have learned to hold nothing back from each other, and I honestly loved every single moment with them.

“It’s like there’s a part of me that was wrecked for a long, long time, and you restored it. You restored me. And I want you to know how much I needed that.”
“It goes both ways, my love.”

It’s emotional and swoonily romantic, but there is also a lot of lightness. Sam and Tiel have fun together, they joke and laugh, and I love their text conversations, and of course, they are SO freaking hot together!

I needed to lick him, bit him, kiss him, hold him, claim him. I needed to fill my hands with every little thing I could offer, and beg him to take me as I came and promise to give him anything, everything.

Sam was rough and wild, and sweet all in the ways that I needed…
He held me with all the love and adoration he could gather into a single embrace, and he fucked me like he was conquering a village.

And as always, the entire Walsh clan are a part of the story, and the madness that ensues with this group together is something very special. The dynamics between the growing family is absolutely sensational – there are still issues to be worked out, and there’s a lot of conflict resolution that goes on in this book, and whether they are working, arguing, joking around, or getting deep and meaningful, they support and love each other like the close family they are. One on one or all together, I love them!

Riley is freaking phenomenal as always. So freaking funny, and I love seeing him starting to come into his own. And the action with Erin seems to be picking up – I’m loving the direction of that and am so excited for her book! And I love that there is a continuation of storylines for the other couples of the series (Shannon and Will - perfection!). Each book continues to grow with more characters being added, relationships being strengthened and new dynamics explored. It’s a fantastic journey, and each book is getting better and better!

This is a really quick read but it lacks for nothing in emotion and intensity. I was hooked from start to finish and read it in one sitting, unable to put it down.

I absolutely loved it!

5 stars.

How do you improve perfect? In the Walsh-y world that Kate Canterbary created, you simply continue in your perfect-ness.

Restored is the continuing story of Sam and Tiel...unarguably Kate's most controversial and unexpected couple to date. Only now, Sam is content. What a word to stick with a guy like Sam! When last we were with him, this suave and sexy man had just come to the realization that Tiel was his one and only. I was personally emotionally wrung dry. And I think Tiel and Sam both were, as well.

The thing with this couple...and one of my favorite parts about them as well...is that even those that are closest to them don't really understand them. As we learned in Shannon's book, The Cornerstone, Sam is a dynamic guy, and he picked an equally private, unique woman to keep for his own. I know a lot of readers gave Tiel a bit of the cold shoulder at the interaction she had between the Walshes and their women during the initial few meetings. What I loved about this story is that a lot of it takes place during the same time that Shannon and Will are finding each other. So not only do we get some more of the endearingly abrasive Shannon, but we get SO MUCH more of Tiel. I feel like I know her better, understand her better, and love her more than I did before.

I adored spending more time with Sam and Tiel, but I'm ecstatic that we get so much Riley. I can't express how stoked I am to read Riley's story. All of the Walshes (and Halsteads!) make a few appearances, further solidifying that solidarity that this family can show. Each of their personalities are obvious, and I love how I have come to pick each of their "voices" out of the crowd.

This is a series that needs to be read in order to appreciate it fully. This book in particular wouldn't be understood at all if it's the first one you pick up. It's also a series that is just begging to be re-read. And I almost never re-read a book...let alone a series. It's just that good.

Man am I wrapped up in these books. These characters. I love them all. I blew through this one in just a few hours. It’s that good! Sam & Tiel..sigh🥰

"I want to give you everything, anything. My family, my name, my children, my everything. Take it all. Take me, and let me give you everything they couldn't."

I could so identify with Tiel, and the feeling of being enough and wanted by those around her. Her family did a real number on her, and it reminded me of my own. Thank God for Sam, and the power of his love..their love together.

“Thank you for giving me a family. It's like there's a part of me that was wrecked for a long, long time, and you restored it. You restored me. And I want you to know how much I needed that. Sam: It goes both ways, my love.”

This book made me:

Laugh
Cry
Laugh some more
Squirm in my seat
Swoon

I just feel so much love for this series. It’s definitely one of my very favorites now.

Kate can write some heat, let me tell you:

“I bit and sucked and swore and thrust thrust thrust. I covered her mouth with my hand when she tripped into that high, screaming wail that I coveted like my personal g-spot merit badge. Tiel arched away from the window as she came, and she took me with her.”

Onto book 6!!!

4.5 “Sunshine” “trust tree” “survived” Kisses

I feel like I go into each book in The Walshes Series with a healthy bit of excitement (okay, probably more than a healthy bit…but whatev’s) and a fair amount of nerves. The nerves come from a place of deep rooted love for these characters…this family has woven itself into my heart and there is no way to untangle myself from them…so when they’re in pain, I am in pain. It has been over 2 years since I read Necessary Restorations , Sam and Tiel’s first book…and I must have PTSD from it because I was almost scared to read Restored…I couldn’t put myself through any more angst with them! And therefore, I had to like ease myself into reading Restored - I know that makes me sound crazy, but I shall accept my crazy badge along with my Walsh Addict badge…it is what it is. That being said…I loved being back in the Sam and Tiel bubble…while not everything that happened in Restored was what I wanted, going through the process with Sam and Tiel was more than worth it. That being said…if you have no idea who Sam and Tiel are, we have much bigger problems. Restored is the fifth book in The Walsh Series, which overall is a series of standalones (“technically”) – while it means more if you read the books in order, each book can be read independently, with the exception of this book. You absolutely MUST read Necessary Restorations first…if you don’t, 95% of what happens will have no context, make no sense and will completely spoil everything. Plus, I think you should read all the books in The Walshes Series because they’re amazing and this family is truly the best.

Samuel Aidan Walsh…oh my Sammy boy, I really didn’t think I could love him more but in true Sam fashion, he had to prove me wrong. And I’m totes okay with that. Sam has come a looooooong way from when I first met him, way back in Underneath It All and the transformation has been quite interesting. There was nothing per-say “wrong” with Sam…he just needed to grow up a little bit. Mature…figure himself out…understand his priorities and what mattered to him. Seeing him in Restored…this is a Sam who knows exactly what he wants and needs…he knows his priorities and a lot of them revolve around the amazing woman who helped him figure out his priorities. I loved seeing this side of Sam because it was very affirming…there are few things more rewarding as a reader than to see a character you love reach their full potential and that’s a lot of what I got from Sam in Restored.

“I was a freaking virgin until I went to college."
"Really? Me too."
Tiel shot me a surprised glance as she nibbled a samosa. "You are a piece of something nice, though. That part wasn't horseshit."
"And I'm precious when I hold babies," I said.
"So precious. My ovaries are still turned up to boom."
I set my drink on the bar and slipped my hand under her skirt. "Can we capitalize on that?"
"Feed me cheesecake and tell me I'm pretty, and you can capitalize on anything you want,"

Tiel Kalogeropoulos-Desai Walsh…one of the things about Tiel that I fell in love with instantly when I met her is her spirit. It’s like a fire that burns within her, something that cannot be contained and it’s addictive, you want to be around it. It bleeds out through her music, her compassion, her sense of style…but it’s ingrained in her – there is no quieting who Tiel really is. And in Restored she proved my point to a T. Tiel has to go through some pretty harsh things...situations that could crush anyone’s spirit. And while they do take their toll on her, nothing can hold my girl down for long…which is just one more thing I love about her. I loved seeing her overcome what was happening…persevere no matter what…and I love that she had Sam by her side to help her through everything.

"This is about you and me, Sunshine. Nothing else matters," I said, dropping down beside her. "You have me and I have you, and we're everything we need."

Sam and Tiel are a perfect balance…a ying and yang…the preppy nerdy boy and the hippy artsy girl…and I just simply love them. I love their communication…I live for their banter…I adore their text messages...and don’t even get me started on their Trust Tree. Sam and Tiel have worked very hard to get where they are in their relationship…they put in the work and it shows and I didn’t realize how much I wanted to see them at this stage of their relationship. To see the fruits of their labor…to see what comes next – I didn’t know I wanted to see it, but leave it to Kate to give me exactly what I didn’t know I needed. Plus, getting to see Sam and Tiel’s wedding from their perspective instead of Shannon’s (which we get in The Cornerstone ) was definitely needed. I had a few questions after reading it and this filled in a few blanks. And I really didn’t think I could fall more in love with Sam and Tiel as a couple…but I was proven 100000% wrong – I could and I did and I loved every moment of it.

Tiel: I mean it, though. Thank you for giving me a family. It's like there's a part of me that was wrecked for a long, long time, and you restored it. You restored me. And I want you to know how much I needed that.
Sam: It goes both ways, my love.

Kate mother lovin’ Canterbary…what did I do to deserve her brilliance? Whatever it was, I’m exceedingly grateful for it. I’ve always been a confessed ‘Series Whore’ – I love series books to pieces and a big reason for that is the fact that you never truly lose the characters you fall in love with….they’re always in the background somewhere, you continue to get pieces of their lives and see their journey continue while also falling in love with new characters. This is even more so true with how connected the Walsh family is, there is absolutely no escaping with this crew…and I cannot stop loving every single second of it. I really love everything that Kate is doing with this series…she is taking me all over the place emotionally and I’m flat out addicted. This series is messy and complicated and snarky and witty and angsty and perfect…and I almost never want it to end. (Even though it ‘technically’ already has…)

"Whatever happens," Tiel said, reaching out for my hand, "we're going to figure it out. We're going to make it work. Everything's going to be fine. We are going to be fine. Promise me."
I leaned down and pressed a kiss to her forehead, and I squeezed her hand. "Always, Sunshine. We'll always figure it out. There is nothing that can happen today that we can't survive."

Oh…my…gah that ending! SOOOOOO good…I mean, amazingly, wonderful, truly fantastic in every way shape and form and exactly what I needed for Sam and Tiel. And the ending only got better with that epilogue…you couldn’t have paid me to stop smiling. It was everything Sam and Tiel deserved and made me endlessly happy. Of course…I’m beeeeeeyond excited to read the next book in the series… The Spire . This is a BIG one…it’s Erin’s book – the illusive Walsh who is never around but there have been a lot of gems being dropped about her, about what happened to send her away, about what is happening with her and Nick…just a lot of juicy little tid-bits that I’m so ready to unravel and get some more info on. Bring is on Miss. Walsh… #WalshAddict

Thank you, Kate Canterbary. I closed this book a red-faced, puffy-eyed, smiling ball of emotion, and you and your incredible words are the reason why.

Restored was just... wow. A perfect blend of feels, it's as though Ms. Canterbary knew exactly which emotion I needed at every moment, and exactly how to draw it from me. This roller coaster took me from happy—just to be cracking open the fifth book this fantastic series—to amused; turned on to frustrated; angered to aching. And then back again.

At final count, Restored made me cry four(ish—there were some close calls…) times. There were those glistening, but not quite falling, tears. More traditional, no-tissues-needed-but-saltwater-definitely-flowing tears. And some serious ugly—sobbing, heaving, snotty, my-soul-is-bruised—tears, too. But rest assured, it also made me laugh. Swoon. Blush. Smile.

Well, you get the idea. Restored, like each of the four books before it, was smart, and funny, and feelsy, and unique. Incredibly well-written, thoughtful and real. I loved it—I love this series—because Sam and Tiel, and those crazy Walshes, are so real. They're off-center and far from perfect, which just makes them all the more relatable. All the more human. And if you aren't familiar with them, you need to rectify that immediately. Stop what you're doing, clear your schedule and settle in. You have a binge read ahead of you, but don't worry. I'll be right here if you need me.

Until then, though, know this:
Restored was everything. Every. Single. Thing. Plenty of (my) Riley being his perceptive, bumbling, brilliant, man-child self. A wealth of rewarding moments—big and small—with ALL of the Walshes and Walsh-lovers. Answers to a couple of lingering questions. A different perspective—and a filling of gaps—for some events we've experienced before. Oh, and new moments and questions to obsess over (Erin! Riley! Gronk!).

See? All the things.

So THANK YOU, Ms. Canterbary. You might be responsible for the dearth of tissues in my house, but you're also responsible for this smile that won't leave my face, and this book hangover that won't quit. *Sigh* I love it. ~ Beth, 6 Sunshine stars

I drank the Walsh Kool-Aid soon after reading the opening sentence in book one. To say I love these characters is an understatement. . So I'm shocked and disappointed that I didn't enjoy this book more.

In the beginning I was totally confused, so much so that I downloaded the previous book to double check if I'd forgotten some major events relating to the main characters and storyline. I hadn't,because they're my favorite couple and that was my favorite book of 2015. That's when I realized this book was sorta kinda before, during, and ultimately after book four. While that time jump worked well in book four because everything was on point, it didn't here. Sooooo not a fan of this confusing format.

I enjoyed getting to learn more about Tiel and the struggles that she and Sam went through. I was pleased to see that Riley has matured a little. But overall, my feeling after reading this was "Whaaaa?" I'm not quite sure what I was supposed to get out of this one. Even after several days, I'm still perplexed.

I could have skipped this one and been fine but that makes me sad since I love the series

I found Kate Canterbary and the Walsh family when the first book was mentioned on a blog I love. I was looking for a new book and it looked interesting. I was hooked from the first page and I haven't looked back. Restored is the continuation of Sam and Tiel's story. The happily ever after doesn't always come with "I do." I loved everything about this story. I loved that we didn't have all the angst of meeting and falling in love. We get to see what marriage is like - the ups and the downs. It's also a bonus that we get to see the rest of the Walsh family. I think I've said this before but I am so excited to see what Kate does next. Her writing is smart, detailed, with great editing (!!!) and her characters are always spot on. Not perfect but perfect for each other. And perfect for me!!

Sam and Tiel grow up, learn to communicate like adults (hallelujah!), get married and try to start a family of their own.

More interesting insights into Riley, the youngest Walsh brother. Really entertaining chapter where Will leads the guys on a rescue mission to retrieve a stolen Boston terrier named Gronk.

This book should not be read as a standalone and is a continuation of Necessary Restorations which is book 3 in the series. It was a heartwarming read, I’m glad Sam and Tiel worked out their issues. But if I’m being completely honest here, I’d rather read more about Shannon and Will or Riley.

I didn't really know what to expect with this one. I knew it was about Tiel and Sam and their marriage but really and truly it was about SO MUCH MORE.

Holy crap, Kate Canterbary can pack a whole lot of emotion into a book. I laughed and laughed (as I have in every KC book I've read so far) AND I cried. Cheezus, I cried more than once and I can the number of authors that have accomplished that on one hand.

At this rate, my husband and cats will have to deal with all of the KC books that I'll be cuddling with and I expect that number to go up.

‘She chose me, she wanted me, she was keeping me.’

The Walsh family is quickly becoming an addiction of mine. I had only read the first book in the series when I took the plunge and signed up for a copy of Restored. I since then binge read the four books that followed and fell more and more in love with these characters and their intertwined lives with each story told. Kate Canterbary has developed an intense and extremely interesting cast of characters and their storylines are unique, sexy and full of feels and angst.

‘You’re kidding yourself if you think shenanigans won’t go down at your wedding. Fixing old houses and fucking shit up at weddings. It’s what the Walsh kids do.” >

Restored welcomed back fan favorite couple, Sam and Tiel, these two are the most unique and quirky so far in the Walsh family series and their unorthodox and eccentric personalities once again made for a fascinating story. Newly engaged and ready for a family Sam and Tiel have a hard road in front of them. Between their two families, the drama is never lacking and the hardships are still constantly around the corner. Restored was so much more than a baby and wedding book. We get fresh insight into Sam and Tiel and even more exciting for me was the bits of insight we get into Shannon and Erin. Since these books timelines all overlap, seeing how the secretive nature in The Cornerstone affected the other siblings and watching it al unfold from an outside was also a highlight for me. But still just being back in the world of Sam and Tiel was a delight, hard at times, but still a delight.

‘There was never a time in the history of Sam and Tiel that things simply worked out well.’

Kate Canterbary books just get better and better and I now consider myself a true fan. I am almost sad that I am all caught up on the series because now I have to wait like all the others for her to publish the next Walsh kid book. Also, while I am ranting what am I supposed to do once she runs out of Walsh kids, that will truly be a sad day, but let’s get back on track. If you have already read Necessary restorations than you have undoubtedly already fallen in love with Sam and Tiel. It is impossible not to feel and symptomize with these two damaged hearts. If you have already gotten to know them then trust me you want to see their story continue.

I love Kate's writing - and that makes it easy to read anything she writes. Sam and Tiel are my least favourite of the Walsh family (I know everyone else loves them the most - don't shoot me). The story was sweet and wraps up nicely what was happening between these two... However I am REALLY looking forward to Erin and then Riley's books

Joint Review by Ivy & Michelle - 5 Stars each

Michelle: Author lady (that is our pet name for her in her private group) has done it yet again. When this ARC arrived in my Kindle app., I could not wait to download it and start reading it, so much so, that I stopped reading my m/m book to get to Restored. Now that’s love for this author, me having to put down an m/m book, but I digress.

Ivy: I hung on a little longer, but only by a thread. It was worth the wait though. Ms. Canterbary (I’m still shy and her writing brain awes me) has crafted the perfect postscript to her book, Necessary Restorations.

Michelle: Ok, which brings us to this: 1) you need to have read Necessary Restoration before diving into Restored. If you haven’t read the other books (and seriously, why not?) they are, in order: a) Underneath It All; b) The Space Between; c) Necessary Restoration (see above) and; d) The Cornerstone. Plus, what the hell are you waiting for? Underneath it all is free people! Here is my review of Necessary Restorations for your viewing pleasure: http://www.afterdarkbooklovers.com/20...

Ivy: Yeah, what she said. *blinks*

Michelle: Now if you are like me and read Necessary Restoration, maybe you felt that Sam and Tiel’s story was not finished, I am so happy they kept talking to the author and made her continue their story.

Ivy: YES! I really enjoyed NR and I gave it four stars, because the writing is so on point and the characterizations so strong, but I did think the ending wasn’t as … thorough as it could have been. So reading this just made me all kinds of happy to see that dot placed at the end of their sentence, so to speak.

Michelle: A lot of new information is thrown at us which is a great thing. You will get a very small glimpse as to why Shannon and Erin are in the outs, but not the whole story.

Ivy: I loved getting to see a little more of their family dysfunction, yet I think Shannon and Erin’s inevitable confrontation should be in Erin’s book. *crosses fingers*

Michelle: Riley, oh Riley, I just want to adopt Riley. He is still a wardrobe challenged, spilling food and drink, wears a man bun and beard kind of guy, but he has grown a lot especially in the family business. He is STILL the keeper of all secrets.

Ivy: Oh I want to do things that would make adopting him ALL sorts of wrong. *blinks* But, um, yes, he is the one character that we’re seeing come into his own as the series progresses. The others felt a little more grown up, but Riley’s the one who I want to see fall in love. And also have sex...hey I’m shallow like that.

Michelle: *shakes head and rolls eyes*

Michelle: I still hate Angus Walsh, but Tiel’s family comes a close second. What awful people.

Ivy: I loathe her family with the heat of a thousand suns. Maybe because I’ve known (and been related to) judgy folks, but I can so relate to Tiel and her foibles. She really is my favorite Walsh heroine.

Michelle: I really loved seeing how Sam and Tiel’s relationship progressed with their “honest tree” although sometimes, they still held back a little. You also learn more why Sam was such an a-hole towards Shannon.

Ivy: That has been the joy of this book. I always love a good paradigm shift and seeing certain scenes from a different character perspective, gives such a depth and richness to the storytelling. I was way impressed with the way Ms. Canterbary managed to weave these different POVs together from book to book, so each side is fully explored.

Michelle: And to all the Magnolia (a/k/a Gigi) haters, can you all retract your claws now please, thanks.

Ivy: Exactly. It’s all about the paradigm shift again. Gigi was an easy target to hate (well, at the very least be annoyed with), but Ms. Canterbary doesn’t do easy. That’s the mark of an excellent writer.

Michelle: Sam is still a filthy, let me spank that ass, alpha man, swoon.

“I intend to fuck you hard enough that you’ll black out and forget this entire day. The only memory you’ll have is my handprint on your ass.”
Yeah, good times.

Ivy: *eyes glaze over* Hmmm? I’m sorry I was distracted by his dirty, dirty, lovely mouth. Seriously, there’s solid character building and dirty smut. It’s like fucking Christmas in July for me.

Michelle: Restored did not disappoint whatsoever! It gave me lots of answers, lots of laughs and plenty of tears. I was at a waterpark reading Restored, and I looked like a crazy person either laughing out loud or crying like a baby. I am pretty sure the lovely ladies sitting next to me either thought I was someone out of the insane asylum or just quirky, we will go with option number 2.

Ivy: No lie, I read it in one sitting, ignoring the hellacious heat and pretty much my entire family (hubby and fur babies) because I didn’t want to put my kindle down. I laughed out loud (some of the curses are SO being added to my repertoire) and I sniffled, then laughed and aww’d some more.

Michelle: I don’t know what else to say because I really do not want to give too many spoilers. You just need to one-click this baby on July 12, 2016. Now before you start asking for the next book and please DO NOT ASK IF IT IS RILEY’S BOOK, IF YOU DO, SHE HAS THREATENED TO KILL HIM OFF, YOU’VE BEEN WARNED, it is slated for December 2016.

Thank you Ms. Canterbary for letting me into the Walsh world with your magical words. I have all the feels and then some.

Ivy: What she said!

There you have it - another Shorties approved read. Go out and get Kate Canterbary’s Walsh Series. You won’t regret it.

Ivy, can we make #Cuntcakes a thing? I think I will be hashtagging that little nugget for awhile!

I understand why this was necessary to get to Erin's book, but I didn't really need another book with Sam and Tiel. Even if there's really good stuff in here regarding what it looks like after happily ever after.

Sam and Tiel weren’t my favorite pairing in this series but they had a lot of issues to work through at the end of their book so I was interested to see what happened. This may have been better suited as a short story or novella. Or maybe I just wish it hadn’t gone the I’m still really bothered that all it took for Sam to work through decades of trauma was going off to the woods for a few months, especially when he supposedly is in treatment for OCD. None of it added up and this was a wasted opportunity to highlight the importance of mental health. Tiel would have benefited as well, given the issues with her family

I really loved their surprise wedding though and Sam continues to have A+ dirty talk skills.

Character notes: Tiel is a 30 year old Greek-Indian associate professor of music therapy and violinist. Sam is a 29 year old white architect with Type 1 diabetes. This is set in Boston.

Content notes: fertility issues, miscarriage, pregnancy with baby epilogue, family planning discussion, toxic family (FMC), purity culture (countered), secondary character physically assaults minor character’s ex-boyfriend, Type 1 diabetes (wears insulin pump), food allergies, FMC with possible ADHD (it read this way to me), MMC’s sisters are estranged from each other, past death of MMC’s alcoholic and abusive father, past death of MMC’s mother (preeclampsia, baby also died), slut-shaming (countered), vomit, on page sex, period sex, spanking, alcohol, inebriation, STD jokes, small penis insult, homophobic insult, genitalia-based insults (secondary character, e.g. cis female saying “suck my dick”), gendered insults, “lady regions” and “laybits” used as euphemisms, gender essentialist language, ableist language, “tribe” used for family, use of “wrangle the natives” and “slave” in slang, mentions of FMC’s past divorce, reference to fat-shaming, reference to professor who had a sexual relationship with a student

Meh.

HOW CAN A HOT MAN COVER BETRAY ME? I'm hurt and disappointed. So, so freaking disappointed. Restored is like the fifth book in this damn Walshes series. I honestly have no idea why so many were made to begin with and I instantly regret continuing this series. However, since I'm ALMOST done with this thing (hoping and praying that there isn't another book) I can sort of see the light shining at the end of this damn dark tunnel I dove into.

In this, you will meet Sam and Tiel. They were okay but I didn't really care about what was going on. Honestly, with all these books (so far) I will reach a point where I most definitely stop giving a fuck about what is going on. The drama is meh and the smut is there (like right in front of my face) but I just don't care about it. For some super odd reason, I'm not invested in it. Which is definitely worrisome because I love the smut - especially good smut.

Overall, I feel like my smut meter might be broken.

Sam is so romantic with his words, "I intend to eff you hard enough that you'll black out and forget this entire day. The only memory you'll have is my handprint on your ***." I loved this book, I loved seeing and catching up with all the characters and Sam and Tiel were entertaining.

Story - 4 stars
Performance - 5 stars

More Sam and Tiel - I wasn't expecting the rollercoaster of emotions that Restored put me through. I naively assumed that being their second book it was going to be more on the happy side as we, the reader, get to see them married and living an awesome life with the extended Walsh family. Damn it, this book made my eyes water, BUT I was super happy with the ending.

I'm just going to say it: nobody writes like Kate Canterbary. I know I’m a big fan of hers, but quite honestly, I don’t think I’m biased. I have many authors that I’ve followed over the years and I can honestly say that I take each book as it comes. When it comes to the Walsh Series, Underneath It All (Book 1) and The Space Between (Book 2) were always my two favorites. In general, I do find that the first book in a series tends to stay my favorite throughout.

Now, I loved (5-star loved) Necessary Restorations and The Cornerstone, but the first two just held a special place in my bookheart.

Having read Restored last week, I can, with all certainty, say that it is by far my favorite Walsh book to-date and in fact, it is (I’m nervous about saying this) my favorite book that I’ve read so far this year.

I love the Walsh family and feel like they must actually exist somewhere in Boston, but beyond that, the writing in this book just completely overwhelmed me.

Ms. Canterbary has such a gift for saying as much with what she doesn't write, as she does with the words that make it to the page. Her craft and her talent continue to shine more and more with each book.

Now, in general, I love dark reads and books that leave me absolutely gutted ~ those are the ones that tend to stay with me the longest. While Restored definitely pulled on me emotionally and had me in tears at certain times, there is something so honest and plausible and real about what’s happening, that for me, that’s what makes Restored even that much more impactful. Everything in these books happens to real, every day people. They’re experiences that we can all relate to and that is what is so powerful.

Beyond all of that, I just have to mention how much I fell in love with Sam in this book. I loved his unyielding love and devotion to Tiel and I loved, beyond everything else, how he knew exactly what she needed (physically, emotionally or otherwise), when she needed it and how he did everything within his power to be that for her.

There’s a line in the song Soulmate by Natasha Bedingfield that says, “Who doesn’t long for someone to hold; Who knows how to love you without being told?” and that is how I felt about Sam and Tiel. In fact, the mere memory of what it felt like to read their story, is literally making me tear up as I write this.

Ok, enough with the tears.

My favorite books to read are those that are a combination of smart, sexy and funny. Yet again, Ms. Canterbary hits a home run on all three fronts.

Whether you’re new to the Walsh Series or a die-hard fan like I am, Read. This. Book.

Book Review - Restored by Kate Canterbary - 5 unique people are the best people stars

It’s no secret that I have a soft spot for all of the Walshes, but Sam reserves a special place in my heart - the bit that wants to look after the most damaged and nurse them back to life.

Luckily Sam doesn’t need me, he has Tiel. She’s all that the puzzle that is Sam, needs to complete him. Both are incomplete people without the other, but together they just fit.

That’s not to say that the pieces all went together in the right places to start with. Sam and Tiel went through a lot to get where they are now. But now we are back with them, they are back together and working their way through being a couple and finding their way in the world.

After a short split that showed both just how it hurt to be apart, Sam’s going to put a ring on it so that Tiel and him are never parted again.

Sounds lovely and happy right? Well yes and no. Because as with all couples, life is a journey of highs and lows. And there are some lovely warm moments, some hilarity and moments when my Will stole the show (sigh, I love that man!). But there are also some moments where your heart b.r.e.a.k.s.

And this is one of the reasons I love Kate …. Because whilst she covers her characters in snark, they are oh so very real and relatable as well. And well sometimes, real life hurts - hard.

So if you are new to the Walshes, let me give it to you straight - if you love kick ass take no prisoner females, alpha panty ripping males and enough snark to make Roseanne appear normal, then go back to the beginning, grab Underneath It All and dive into this wonderful family of disfunction, disorder and chaos, strange food, bouncy comebacks and hot, panty melting sex. Then come back to me and thank me for recommending Kate to you, before you go and kiss her feet and wait patiently for the next Walsh book. If you pester her and she kills our Riley… the Walshery will not be happy!

This is the book I needed for when I finished Necessary Restorations (my review here). Although I felt complete at the end of Sam and Tiel's story, there was a part of me that did want to learn more from their POV.

Reading Necessary Restorations is a necessity and all the books before. This book fits in the timeline and gives you insight to these characters interworking. As I stated before, Sam and Tiel are beautifully complex. And Kate Canterbary delivers an imperfect HEA. Because seriously, isn't that how real life is? Again the story gives you a mass of emotions without being 'ruined' and some great insight for the other Walsh members. I didn't expect this book to be any easier, and trust me, Ms. Canterbary delivers on this. But you'll become deeper engrossed in the tale and addicted for more Walsh family stories.

I find once I have an author that weaves a story that captures my attention, I will be forever drawn. It's hard to put into words how she captivates this reader, but this will be one series I know I will find myself re-reading over again like a favorite TV drama that you watch every time it's featured. 5 out of 5 stars.

I fell in love with Sam and Tiel all over again in this book. This book felt organic like you were checking in with old friends instead of reading a sequel just for a sequel's sake. Restored had it all, ups and downs, serious steamy moments, laugh out loud antics, incredible banter and a whole lot of love. It will make you break out the tissues one moment and laugh out loud the next and was the perfect combination of each. This is what Kate Canterbary does best and what makes her one of my top auto buy authors.

At the end of Necessary Restorations we got a happy for now, but it felt like these two still had something else to say. I am thrilled that Restored picked up right where Necessary Restorations left off and we get to hear the rest of their story. Being privy to the evolution of this relationship felt like you were spying on the couple next door at times. It was so real and so beautifully written that these characters feel like they could be real. That is what makes this book so special and what makes this one of my top reads of 2016.

Restored is book 5 in The Walsh Series. It continues Sam and Tiel's love story.
What an amazing book! I had been waiting to see if this book was released in audiobook because I really loved listening to the rest of this series. But then with the impending release of The Spire (book 6) I decided to quit waiting and read this one now. Being a quitter was my best decision! I couldn't put it down. I cried all day long... sad tears, heartbroken tears, and happy tears... every emotion!

"Thank you for giving me a family. It's like there's a part of me that was wrecked for a long, long time, and you restored it. You restored me."

I love these characters and their stories! And the writing is so engaging, descriptive, colorful!!!

"I'd forgotten how to sleep alone. I couldn't make sense of the bed without Tiel nestled beside me, and it felt too big, too empty. Nothing was right, and I must have resembled an anxious old dog, circling and circling in search of comfort until surrendering to inadequate fits of restlessness and dreamless sleep."

I can't wait to dive right back into the world of the Walsh family!

While some bks can be read out of order this is NOT the series to do that. These bks are so intertwined with little bits here and there and that if you don’t read in order you’ll miss something. Love this series and while I really like insecure Sam/Tiel I was hoping to get Erin/Nick’s bk this time around :-( .

Enjoyed this story and it was a very HEA for Sam/Tiel. Liked that their story went a little farther and we got a longer look into their lives while catching up with some detail about the other couples. Love these crazy Walsh’s who seem to get a little less crazy once they find their true love. I absolutely, 100% LOVED Will and Riley’s little revenge adventure near the very end. I ADORE that Will Halsted….(Froggie….HA! Always make me laugh, and the Commodore and Judy…love em). These quick witted, snarky, smart ass siblings with their particulars and quirky dysfunction are always an entertaining read.
