As I read this sequel, I thought for sure it was a fake engagement and a full blown set up. Since Six was some sort of pi it would have been totally doable. Is it strange that I was disappointed that I was wrong? The story went a predictable way - I still loved the characters. I guess I just wished everyone Mira knew was in on it and it was her wedding all along being planned.

This was beyond horrible. I hated Six. He was a lying idiot. I hated everyone except maybe Mira. The ending was also stupid just like book.

I honestly don't know how to rate this book. Did I enjoy it? No. Can I recommend to others? Absolutely NOT! But if you are one that likes messy relationship-type stories and screwed up characters, then this one is for you!
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!
Why? Because if you read "Six Feet Under", then you know that this is the sequel. Mira, in the first book was a mess! From alcohol & drug abuse to cutting herself and so on. Six (or William) in the first book was her boyfriend of 10 years who cleaned up after her. The author wanted to us to believe that these two dysfunctional people were soulmates and had this big love for each other in both reads, but here is why it fell flat for me....
First off, in Pieces of Eight, we find out that Six was PAID by Mira's mother to find Mira and make sure she was okay. Mira always believed it was a chance meeting and when she learned that he had lied about that for 13 years, she was pissed for a minute or two but easily forgave him.
In book 1, we have Six leaving Mira to check on an ex-love & her child over & over again. A woman who Hero had loved and wanted to marry and whom we learn in book 2 that the child was his! What pissed me of about this is that Hero was with heroine for 10 years and he told her that he would never marry her, BUT he wanted to marry the other woman AND in book 2, we learn that after the heroine miscarried their baby and she asked him to leave, he not only gained a daughter but also fell in love with another woman and was planning to marry her!
There is a brief passage in which the heroine states that she was a "filler" for the two women he had loved and wanted to marry because he never wanted to marry her! He even told her flat out that he would not marry her in the 10 years they were together!
Yes, she was a mess, but they were suppose to have been in love & expecting a baby. If you loved someone as much as he claimed to have loved her, why not ask her to marry you? Why was he so keen to marry the other two women, and not her because he didn't have issues with marriage at all. The excuse heroine gave was just too lame for me and I agreed that she was a "filler" and hoped she would truly realize it and walk away from him for good and find love with someone else, but author couldn't be that creative.....
Then there is the part that in "Pieces of Eight", there is absolutely no romance at all! The entire book is about how Mira overcame her problems and how much the Hero doesn't care at all for her!
In fact, Hero is with the OW throughout the book up until that last 2-3 pages! He is in love with this woman and planning his wedding and shows zero love, affection, attraction or anything towards heroine until the very end which by then the reader is suppose to believe how they are meant to be?
Even the ending sucked because there is no plans for the future, marriage proposal or anything and author thought that was how it was meant to be. Huh???
What sucked even more is that after seeing all these great reviews, I thought this would be a beautiful read of how two people with a dark past would come together, but all it did was make me angry for wasting my precious time!
By the way, if you like strong heroines, this one was not it. Yes, she fought to overcomes her battles and become stronger and a good person BUT when you have a heroine who chases after an unavailable man and even tells him that she loves him when he is with someone else, that's a no-go for me. The way she easily forgave him each time for everything (the marriage thing, the child, the lies, the OW, the fact he never chased her & gave up on them, etc), left me angry that people can say they liked it and give rave reviews.

This story starts three years after the last one ended and unfortunately not a lot is explained. Mira is finding herself though and that makes things almost worth it.
I thought the first book was angsty but HOLY HELL...this one had it in spades. I found myself shaking my head and not believing what I was reading. This was not the Six we came to know and love. (It. Must. Be. A. Job. was all I was thinking!)
My favorite thing is Mira's honesty. I know, funny right? Especially being an addict and a habitual liar but when she is honest it can be brutal. However, she always says what she means. And she has learned to read people's mannerisms and picks up clues to what they are thinking/feeling...and I loved that. She was sooo spot on!
I really loved her growth in this one as well. A lot of the things, Six helped put into motion but it was amazing that Mira continued on and found a few things herself.
Unfortunately, I can't really say much without spoilers but this story was a wonderful addition to the first. However, it wasn't without its own issues. Namely, still no Six POV...and this one really needed it. And No Epilogue...WTH? I get the author's explanation however, going through this journey, I needed more of that happily ever after...and I deserved it.
Still, it was freakin' awesome...please don't let this duet pass you by. Even with the few issues, it's an amazing love story and totally worth your time. I give it an EIGHT! ;)

I've taken days to write this review because I simply don't know what to say about this book. We're not even halfway through the year yet, and I've already read so many amazing novels. I honestly am scared about making a list of favorites at the end of the year! Whitney Barbetti's Mad Love Duet is without a doubt going to make the list.
Pieces of Eight is the follow-up to Six Feet Under and it could not have been done more perfectly. Whitney pours her soul onto every page of these two books and deserves a ridiculous amount of recognition for the extremely difficult subjects she tackles with the utmost care. Through these two books, my complete outlook toward mental illness has been changed. I feel like I've been educated on how to empathize with those struggling rather than brow-beaten with loads of useless information. I'm grateful for the changes I've seen in myself just from reading this story.
My favorite books are those offering more than romance and pages upon pages of romps between the sheets. I want substance - I want to know the characters inside and out. I want to see struggle and redemption, dark and light. The Mad Love Duet accomplished every bit of what I was looking for and then some! I feel like I know Mira and relate to parts of her in ways I've never seen in a character from a book before. She's wholly unique - strong and weak, feeling more human than arguably any character I've ever encountered before. In Six Feet Under, I was infuriated by Mira, but somehow still loved her. In Pieces of Eight, I related to her and was cheering her on. She showed such growth and beauty. I finished this story wishing she was real so I could give her a hug!
Most stories, when spanning years, jump around making the reader feel lost and disconnected to the story. This duet spans more than ten years but makes the reader feel as if they were with Mira every step of the way. I actually felt as if the large amounts of time with Mira bonded me to her because I was able to see a full range of growth and the struggles in between. I especially loved how Pieces of Eight took time to show Mira and Six and individuals, allowing me to experience each one in new and unexpected ways.
"He's been there through the dark. And instead of pulling me into the light, he'd held me in the dark, letting me choose the light for myself."
Despite the time apart, the undying love between these two characters was beautiful to behold. I was enthralled with how realistic the moments between them felt and guys... the slow-burn was everything! I felt like I needed to wipe sweat from my brow after the encounters between them. Girl, YES.
"What was it about watching a man operate something meant for two hands with just one that made a woman feel desire thick and heavy?
I'm so sad to be finished with this story. I implore everyone to please give these books the time they deserve. They have changed my heart, the way I think and perceive people, and truly put me in the shoes of people I have known in my life. The writing is masterful, immersive, and full of soul. I also have to note, one of my favorite things about reading Whitney Barbetti's books are the notes she leaves readers with at the end of her stories. They make me shed more tears than I did while reading about the characters because she allows me to see how much heart she pours into her writing. Her perfectly flawed characters are life-changing.
Start with Six Feet Under and get to reading, you will not regret it.

5 STARS!!!!
“I hate you and I love you in the same breath, and I’m not sure what to do about that.”
OH. MY. HEART. I just finished this book, and the tears won’t stop rolling down my face. I remember the last time a book made me feel this way and it was a long time ago. I’m going to do my best at describing how I feel about this story, but I’m afraid my words won’t do it justice. This was a long journey between book one and two, and if you give this series a chance I promise you won’t be disappointed. I can honestly say from the bottom of my heart that this book made me feel things I’ve never felt. Sure, I’ve read other amazing books, but nothing to this exact specific. Pieces of Eight is poignant and brave, and it took my breath away with its beauty. This story will scorch your soul and fill you with light and you’ll be left feeling complete because you just read a brilliant book. I’m in absolute awe. And the ANGST! I was crawling out of my skin to get to the end. I will never, ever forget this beautiful story of love.

This book starts off right where Six Feet Under ended and thank goodness because I was dying for the rest of this story! Mira and Six have cemented a place deep in my heart and I can’t tell you how amazing their story is. I don’t know this author personally, but I still feel proud of her because any writer that can write a story as complex and meaningful as this one deserves all the accolades in the world. This story had a HUGE impact on me, so I can’t imagine what it did to her. So, to her I say thank you. Thank you for bringing this story into my life and thank you for taking me on this insanely emotional roller coaster ride. This is a story about a lot of things, but most of all I feel like it’s a story based on hope, absolution and true, deep, mad love.
The way I loved him, that all-consuming, soul-marking kind of love…it was a once in a lifetime love. There’d never be another like it.
Like I said, I’ve exhausted my eyes of all the tears, because the depth of emotion and heartache and healing was just too much. I’m so emotionally invested in these characters that even the tiniest word in the tiniest sentence has me feeling all out of sorts. In book one Mira wasn’t my favorite person, but now I can’t describe what I feel for this fictional character, it’s really astounding. All her pain, and yearning, and growth combined with the battles she still fights within herself. Taking this journey with her wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. In book one, Six was Mira’s hero and in book 2 every ounce of me was fighting right along side Mira for her to be her own hero. It was simply, beautiful and I won’t get over it for a long time. The writing was masterful, the characters were well developed and deeply passionate, and the overall experience is something I wish everyone could feel.

There are no words. I mean there are, but they’re all jumbled in my head right now.
That was cathartic AF.
Six was the more unlikeable character in this one (i thought) . AND I LOVED THAT. He seemed so perfect in SFU. And in this one he made me so angry. Mira was sarcastic. Witty. Neurotic a little. This book made me laugh as much as it made me ache. And omg the ache. It was a slow burn getting to the end. And the ending is so worth it. The ending was perfection. It was a realistic ending, thus the perfect ending. But man, I want MORE.
Whitney’s attention to details was amazing. The littlest things made this story come alive and become real. The writing is so tight it could almost be its own book. SFU needs POE, but POE almost doesn’t need SFU. That’s how tight the writing is. And by tight I mean how cohesive it is. Whitney’s writing stands above the rest.
This duology May be one of the best stories I’ll read this year. The subject of mental illness is told with grace. The most beautiful ugly MAD LOVE story I’ve ever read.

"The deeper you suffered, the deeper you loved."
This duet is not your typical run of the mill romance. I FELT every emotion and feeling as if it was my own. It was raw, gritty, painful and honest. I have not felt this strongly about a book, but just a few times in my life. I have read many amazing five star books by different authors. But this duet was a once in a lifetime kind of feeling for me. I know that my words will not be adequate enough, but I must try to make you understand how important and uplifting Mira's story really is.
"Loss is a phantom limb, an acknowledgement that something is absent from you but somehow still aches-a constant misery, reminding you of what you've lost. An amputee could walk around with a physical reminder to those around him of what he's lost, but an emotional absence is silent, lonely, deeply private-a loss mourned alone."
Pieces of Eight had a different tone than I was expecting from it. In SFU, we learn so much about Mira and her demons, the toll that it has taken on her to continue to fight for her sanity and sobriety. Would she have fought so hard, if Six had not been in her life to push her, to make her crave more from life? One of the many aspects that I loved about POE was that we get to see Mira and Six living their individual lives without each other. I think it was important as a reader to be able to see the growth of Mira as an individual person, without Six, just Mira. She needed to know that she could set goals for herself and actually achieve them. I wanted her to see herself for the fighter that she is, the loyal friend that she could become, and I wanted her to love herself more than anything. She learned to stop running from her demons, and discovered that she had to live with them. She found that she was stronger, emotionally, than she ever anticipated. And what an empowering feeling that would be, to discover all of this self worth about yourself, and realize that your pain and suffering was not in vain.
Six earned my respect and gratitude in this book. As I stated in my review for SFU, that he was an enigma, cloaked in mystery. I wanted to know more about him, I wanted to peel his layers back and unveil who he really is. Underneath that rough exterior, there is a polished man that shines, and he shines the brightest for Mira. The love that these two had for each other, was truly a mad kind of love. The angst and intensity was off the charts. The push and pull that they constantly feel towards each other is an age old mystery. I felt their love for each other to the depths of my soul. These books are so well crafted, that I actually felt as if I was a part of their inner circle. Watching them come together, fall apart, and then pick the pieces up one by one, and glue them back together. I urge you to give this duet a chance. It's not an easy kind of love,sometimes loving means hurting, but nothing in life worth having, ever comes easily.

This duet is not your typical run of the mill romance. I FELT every emotion and feeling as if it was my own. It was raw, gritty, painful and honest. I have not felt this strongly about a book, but just a few times in my life. I have read many amazing five star books by different authors. But this duet was a once in a lifetime kind of feeling for me. I know that my words will not be adequate enough, but I must try to make you understand how important and uplifting Mira's story really is.
"Loss is a phantom limb, an acknowledgement that something is absent from you but somehow still aches-a constant misery, reminding you of what you've lost. An amputee could walk around with a physical reminder to those around him of what he's lost, but an emotional absence is silent, lonely, deeply private-a loss mourned alone."
Pieces of Eight had a different tone than I was expecting from it. In SFU, we learn so much about Mira and her demons, the toll that it has taken on her to continue to fight for her sanity and sobriety. Would she have fought so hard, if Six had not been in her life to push her, to make her crave more from life? One of the many aspects that I loved about POE was that we get to see Mira and Six living their individual lives without each other. I think it was important as a reader to be able to see the growth of Mira as an individual person, without Six, just Mira. She needed to know that she could set goals for herself and actually achieve them. I wanted her to see herself for the fighter that she is, the loyal friend that she could become, and I wanted her to love herself more than anything. She learned to stop running from her demons, and discovered that she had to live with them. She found that she was stronger, emotionally, than she ever anticipated. And what an empowering feeling that would be, to discover all of this self worth about yourself, and realize that your pain and suffering was not in vain.
Six earned my respect and gratitude in this book. As I stated in my review for SFU, that he was an enigma, cloaked in mystery. I wanted to know more about him, I wanted to peel his layers back and unveil who he really is. Underneath that rough exterior, there is a polished man that shines, and he shines the brightest for Mira. The love that these two had for each other, was truly a mad kind of love. "I hated him so much. I loved him more."
I have never been more proud of Whitney Barbetti than I am right here in this moment. After finishing Pieces of Eight and delving into my feelings I realized I had felt happiness and contention more than I ever have before. I'm sad that Mira & Six's story is over, but I am not sad about getting there and experiencing these two characters lives, together & separately.
My favorite thing about Pieces of Eight was Mira & Six (naturally) but let me tell you why. I enjoyed these two being apart for a little while because it showed me who they truly were as individuals. I can 100% say I am so proud of the person Mira has become. The Mira who is calm, cool, and collected, but has no problem doing what needs to be done still. Sober Mira. Strong Mira. Mira. Not Mira and Six. Just Mira. But I do want to also add that Six was a fully grown character to me as well. We seen sides of him in POE that we most definitely did not see in SFU. And that to me was so special. Raw and ragged Six, showing feelings and telling them, was my aesthetic. It was JUST what we as readers needed after reading SFU and experiencing a different side of Six.
Whitney did a fantastic job at creating a story that spans years and still follows a story line that drops a huge twist (AND WHEN I SAY TWIST BOY IS IT A TWIST!) that fits perfectly with said story line and plot. Her writing provided me with vivid pictures and clarity of every situation going on at the moment. Have I mentioned how much I love her writing in these two stories? It's immaculate. It's a Whitney Barbetti I have never seen before so I know it's one ya'll haven't seen before.
POE was a very character driven story, the tone alone is 10x different than SFU but I enjoyed it for that very reason. It ends in a sense that reminded me of Mud Vein. We make our own endings, even if we are shit at it, like Mira. Six and Mira's future is for us and us only. It is what we want it to be and I love that.
I hold these two very near and dear to my heart. They have embedded themselves in me forever. They led me to places I have never experienced before and because of that I am truly thankful. Reading about Mira and Six has been the best ride of my life. I am so happy that you guys get to experience it too.

This book was AMAZING!! I thought the first book was amazing, but this book blows the first one of the duet out of the water!! So beautiful, and raw!! I’m feeling so many emotions!! This It’s one of those books that rips your heart out, and puts it back together again!! This book will be with me for a long time to come!!

I liked it even though there were no sex scenes. What I liked was the dissection of their relationship between both the hero and the heroine, as well as a reveal early on in the novel helped to add more meaning to the first story.
While I enjoyed the drama with the heroine coming across the hero at his engagement party to the antithesis to who the heroine is (put together, social, happy), I also felt like it was out of character for the hero to end up with this woman who seems like "perfect." But this is a minor point.

If ever there was a book that after the ending of book 1 I needed stat, this would be the one!!! Completely devastated at the cliffy with Six Feet Under would be a correct statement. So, when this one landed on my kindle, drop everything and forget the family…I had to know…I needed to know…
Picking up right where we left off with the ending of Six Feet Under, we jump on the roller-coaster ride of turmoil. This is a story that reads like I’m sitting right there watching everything unfold. So beautifully written that once you pull down the safety guard before the roller-coaster takes off, you can’t…you won’t…stop reading until the last page is turned.
Emotionally, you will need a box of tissue while reading this straight to the heart, I’m currently at a 9 falling in love with both characters!! Because we learn that while a 10 is not impossible to hit, 9 is always better.
Whitney Barbetti has certainly poured heart and soul into this excellently written story. It’s one that pulls all the feelings and sucks you in from the get go. You can tell by the writing, this book was not written in a week, month or year. It is a story that deals with many types of addiction and how a person(s) deals with the cards they are dealt.

I went into this not knowing what to expect because I didn't really love Six Feet Under 😞 but OHMYGOD I loved this one so much more and I wish this one was longer! Mira and Six were 😍 Barbetti didn't disappoint!

I'm trying. Trying so hard to write a review that is worthy of this masterpiece. But honestly, no amount of words can do this book, this duet, justice. At the end of Six Feet Under my heart was obliterated to pieces, and all those pieces were scattered everywhere. There was nothing that could put those jagged pieces back together. That was until, Pieces of Eight. POE swooped in taking those pieces and gently put my heart back together. Though it's not the same, there are still cracks here and there, but nonetheless its healed.
"No one saves us but ourselves"
That quote. That quote is the heartbeat of this book. That quote is the definition of Mira.
Mira is such a complex character. She's had her fair shares of ups and downs, mostly downs. And though she's let those downs define her, they have helped shape the woman she's become. She had to experience unfathomable loss to realize that the only person she needed to save herself was her. She dug herself out of the darkness and thrived. I was so proud of her. Her growth throughout the book was staggering and I was her cheerleader, clapping and hollering "YOU GO GIRL!" Her metamorphosis in becoming the new Mira and shedding that toxicity was beyond beautiful.
"The way I loved him, that all-consuming, soul-marking kind of love…it was a once in a lifetime love. There’d never be another like it."
Six. Six. Six. Six. Six. Six. Boy was I put through every ringer trying to dissect him. All the answers I was looking for in SFU I finally got them answered in POE. I now understood. I understood how he ticked. I understood why he did the things he did. I understood him. And because of that, I saw him in a different light. And boy how he shined.
"Because if I reached ten, I would’ve have reached the max, with no more room for love to grow.” He stepped closer still, until our breaths mixed in the air suspended between us. “You’d never be my ten. Because I’d never reach the peak of loving you."
Mira and Six, *deep breath* These two enraged me and hurt me and made me cry all the damn tears. Not once did I think I'd come out unscathed. I knew this duet was going to break me and make me feel everything, and it did, f*** it did. Mira and Six are two characters that'll live inside me. They're two characters that I'll never ever, ever, ever forget.
"I’d known Six was carrying a piece of me with him. But what I hadn’t realized was that I was carrying him, too. The ache upon my heart wasn’t from self-inflicted emotional wounds, but rather a piece that was yearning for its owner."
Whitney. Whitney, Whitney, Whitney. ALL THE F***ING PRAISE!!! This duet, this duet is hands down at the top! I can't even begin to tell you how much these two books made me feel. These characters and this story owned me. Honestly, there are not enough words. Just so you know, I'm giving you a standing ovation and bowing to you. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for writing these books and giving a voice to Mira and Six.

Wow, wow, wow! I didn’t read the blurb before diving into this emotional journey. I wasn’t sure what to expect from Mira and Six, but the impact they made will not soon be forgotten. Their relationship is an emotional rollercoaster, the ups and downs happen within a blink of an eye barely giving you time to catch your breath. As hard as it was to read at times, I’m thrilled I took the time to meet this amazing couple.
There are so many words to describe this love story. It was heartbreaking, honest, real and emotional. The experiences in Mira’s life were difficult to digest, but the sadness I carried for her throughout the years felt real. My heart was heavy and I admired Mira for putting one foot in front of the other day in and day out. As much as this story was about Mira, it was about Mira and Six finding their way to one another in the darkness. Mira was broken, but Six stuck by her side through all of their struggles. He was mysterious in his own right, but his heart was so full of love for this complex woman I was in awe of him. He wasn't perfect, but the connection he felt towards Mira was honest and true. He struggled as well, but was a light in Mira's life when she needed it the most. It may not have seemed like it at times, but he needed her too!
This story was about acceptance and forgiveness. We all struggle in life, but it’s how we handle those obstacles thrown at us that define who we are. Mira was so incredibly strong and resilient in her journey to better her life. Yes, she was difficult, demanding and sometimes downright infuriating. On the flip side, this was an adult woman that had to learn how to love, how to accept the fact that she was not the cause of all things bad. She broke my heart, but as I moved through her struggles I came to realize just how incredibly strong she was. I admired her. The uphill battle she endured to change her life was rough terrain and she continued to push through the pain.
My emotions were all over the spectrum with this story. I was frustrated, sad, heartbroken, angry. Yes, there are good, happy times for this unique couple. I simply loved being part of their relationship over a 13-year time frame. We needed that time with Mira and Six. Their journey together, as well as their time apart, was enlightening and full of promise. Whitney has done an excellent job of making you feel what these characters are going through. Not to mention, she throws in a few twists that you will NOT SEE COMING. I’m happy that I took time to read and experience this love story. It’s not like many others, but that’s more reason you should read about Mira and Six!

Pieces of Eight by Author Whitney Barbetti is book two in the Mad Love Duet. It is a second chance for two soulmates.
“One day, when my body is six feet under and covered in dirt and grass, when my skin has turned to ash, and all I am is dust in a wood and metal box, I will still be someone you loved once. And that will be enough. It will have to be.”
We were left with one of the most heartbreaking endings at the conclusion of Six Feet Under. Six and Mira’s lives forever changed, and the people they once were disintegrated in a moment of grief and heartache.
“...an emotional absence is silent, lonely, deeply private–a loss mourned alone.”
Reading the first paragraph in Pieces of Eight, I was reawakened to the sorrow that was now in Mira’s life, and I cried for her. I cried for her loss, for her pain, and for her decision that led her to a lonely place. Those tears didn’t stop, but readily flowed throughout most of the story as she recounted the process of her metamorphosis.
“Six was my type. He was the disease, and he was the cure.”
When Six reentered her life, my lungs and brain went numb. The unexplained but the familiar I’d felt about him in book one came back in a fury. I went from weeping widow to raging monster in about one second. Hot and deadly realization pounded on my brain, as a hell-storm of cruelties with flurries of lies rained down in ink.
“I hate you and I love you in the same breath, and I’m not sure what to do about that.”
But truly, there was a depth of drowning in both of these characters that we did not see in Six Feet Under. The points of view we were privy to in this novel were those that pulled us under and held us until the last possible second, knowing just how much we could take before letting us up for air.

Pieces of Eight was a heart-sinking, soul-reviving novel. It spoke of being true to one’s self, even when wanting to break and run. It showcased strength in the most dire and seemingly insurmountable circumstances. It was learning to like and love yourself, in spite of yourself. Sigh. This book. This book was so much. Whitney told an incredible story with this duet. Mira has been through so much and grown SO much. It really was a rollercoaster ride. With a perfect ending.

Whitney Barbetti is a master at her craft. I just wanted to start off with that, because it couldn't be more true.
I absolutely loved the first book in this duet Six Feet Under, here is my review for it!
But this is about Pieces Of Eight and boy this was just as good as the first book. I couldn't stop reading!! I loved how you got to see how the characters were as individual people when they were split apart.
Mira has come so far from where she was before. She is such a string woman, when she is sober. Mira will do what it takes to get shit done. But I don't want to discount how much Six has changed as well. He has made some strides with how he speaks about his feelings and getting them across.
Seeing Six as a raw person who is wiling to talk about his feelings is something that I needed to see as a reader. I had so many feels when he was able to accomplish that huge feat. He was such a different man to a point and I was LIVING for it!!
Whitney was able to convey her characters and circumstances in such a way that having a visual of the whole book wasn't hard in any way possible! She was able to stretch this story to span over years but with such a character driven book it made it seem like there was hardly anytime in between.
SFU was so different from POE and I loved it for every reason there is. It was such a contrast but it was so welcome because it included growth between characters and it shoed the ways that people can change. AS long as they are willing.
Whitney Did such an amazing job on both of these books and I cant sing enough praises for her and her work! I am so excited ot see what else she has up her sleeve!

But this is about Pieces Of Eight and boy this was just as good as the first book. I couldn't stop reading!! I loved how you got to see how the characters were as individual people when they were split apart.
Mira has come so far from where she was before. She is such a string woman, when she is sober. Mira will do what it takes to get shit done. But I don't want to discount how much Six has changed as well. He has made some strides with how he speaks about his feelings and getting them across.
Seeing Six as a raw person who is wiling to talk about his feelings is something that I needed to see as a reader. I had so many feels when he was able to accomplish that huge feat. He was such a different man to a point and I was LIVING for it!!
Whitney was able to convey her characters and circumstances in such a way that having a visual of the whole book wasn't hard in any way possible! She was able to stretch this story to span over years but with such a character driven book it made it seem like there was hardly anytime in between.

PIECES OF EIGHT is the sequel to SIX FEET UNDER and the final book in THE MAD LOVE DUET. It should not be read as a standalone. The Duet is written by the very talented author Whitney Barbetti.
This book picks up with Mira forcing Six to leave. Neither Six or Mira could've foreseen that she would be the one to walk away. But there she was, a new chapter in her life, heading toward an unknown future. That empty feeling extended through out her entire being especially her now broken heart. He was gone! She'd lost the love of her life. Sadly she knew she was the only one to blame. She missed him so much. It was hitting her then that she was starting a new life and home that would not have him in it. A new beginning for her. One that didn't include Six. Sometimes, the pain is all that's left to assure you the past was real. And that is what she would take with her into the new season of Mira.
She had the word FIGHT tattooed backwards above her heart. It was a permanent reminder of the promise she made to Six to never stop fighting. She often wondered why he never tried to find her. This is a very unconventional love story spanning years. Mental illness is front and center to Mira's story. If you can read a very well written manic love story then I recommend these duet books. Once I started I couldn't put them down. Trigger's include mental illness, self-harm and addiction.

Wow, my heart is still trying to heal itself from all of the emotions it endured. This is the second book to the Mad Love duet. You will need to read the first one before you read the conclusion to this unique couple. This talented author exceeded all my expectations in this story. I was so excited to read this book I stopped what I was reading and started this one instead. I could not put this book down. I was so hooked I stayed up all night and finished this book in one sitting.
This book starts where the first one ended. Mira and Six has a traumatic event happen to them that drove them apart. She had to make a very hard decision for herself to heal. Mira leaves Six and she moves in with a good friend to help her. She puts herself together again piece by piece. A couple of years go by and Mira is doing really well. She has a job that helps her stay on track. Mira is heading a very good direction until she sees Six again. When she sees Six her feelings for him come back in ten fold. Mira realizes that she is still in love with him but time changes everything including them. She is devastated when she learn that Six has moved on with out her. Mira knows deep down that Six still loves her too but will the past be too painful for them to heal from? Will Mira and Six get the ending they want or does life have other plans for them?
I absolutely loved this book. The storyline has it all romance, heartbreak, and healing. You will fall in love with Mira and Six all over again. Mira is so strong and brave. She has had a very hard life and instead of giving up, she fights. Six is still a mystery but deep down he really cares for Mira. He also has some secrets of his own that could break them apart for good. These two characters will take you on a journey you will never forget. This book is really emotional. I was laughing and then I would be crying for all the trouble they went through. My heart broke for them from all of the pain that they had to endure. These characters will have a place in my heart for a long time. I’m so happy that I got to go on this journey with Mira and Six. I can’t wait to see what this amazing author will write for us next.

Pieces of Eight is the conclusion to this duet.
After the end of book, one I could not wait to read this book. This one starts from where the first book left us.
Mira is trying to start a new life on her own. She is dealing with everything that has happened she pushed Six away but she still loves him she is trying to heal, A few years pass and she has been getting on with her life. Until her life comes crashing down when she comes face to face with Six after 3 years, A man she never thought she would see again. Only Mira is not the only one who has been moving on with their life. There were times I wanted to climb in the book and slap and shake both Six and Mira.
"I hated him so much. I loved him more."
I do not want to say much, but honestly, if you have read book one make sure you read book two...
"Because if I reached ten, I would've reached the max, with no more room for love to grow. You'd never be my ten. Because I'd never reach the peak of loving you."
If you have not read Book one in this Duet then please do, it is such a great story.
It was a beautiful ending. I have laughed, I cried!

5 So Worth It Mad Love Stars
I was so anxious for the completion of Mira & Six’s story that I read it in a day and it did not disappoint. Pieces of Eight is not just a love story. It’s a story of healing, growth and acceptance. It’s a deep discovery of learning to deal with the person that you are and loving that person no matter what. Mira and Six don’t have an easy journey but honestly what journey worth having ever really is? My heart ached and it soared. My mind raced with all the thoughts and feelings. I sat on the edge of my chair turning the pages to get to the ending. And even though I’m finished reading Pieces of Eight, the journey and story won’t leave my thoughts any time soon. The duet has left a lasting impression and one that I hope others will enjoy as much as I did.

I am in absolute love with all things Six & Mira!
Whitney Barbetti took me on an emotional ride and didn't let me off until she broke every piece of my heart and then slowly put it back together.
I did not want this book to end at all. I am so sad it's over.
When the book begins it stars off exactly where Six Feet Under left us. Six has just left and Mira is in the hospital completely gutted. It was heartbreaking.
But she didn't do what I expected her to do and for that I am so happy.
I don't want to give too much away because I don't want to spoil it for anyone, so I am going to keep my review vague.

I don’t even know where to start. This book was the best journey, And also the hardest. I absolutely devoured these words. I could not have asked for a better ending.

“This is what love looks like when it isn’t wrapped with lies.” What a perfect conclusion to Mira & Six’s unconventional story!! I absolutely LOVED the angst in this book. The push and pull, the back and forth of yearning and longing and heartbreak. Perfection. Yes, this was a love story that was unconventional and different but really this book belongs to Mira. I just loved seeing how much she changed and grew from then to now.

I highly recommend this duet for when you’re tired of the same-old cliche storyline. Whitney Barbetti’s writing is stunning and this series is one to remember!
