Battle Flag: The Wall Collective, is a genuinely interesting collaborative by authors Chris Ringler, Glen Birdsall and Paul Counelis. The group approaches the theme, No More Walls, with an interlacing of short fiction and poetry that is both thought provoking and insightful. This is poignantly illustrated in the piece, As Above, when the narrator says “A wall, her grandma told her, can keep you out, but it can also keep someone in.” The collection does a wonderful job also of broaching social injustice, hate, loss and oppression through its look into alternate realities and potential dystopias. On top of this being a quick yet engaging read, it was doubleplusgood for the proceeds I spent on the book were generously donated to Planned Parenthood.
