This book tells the story of how John Egan gradually overcame the odds and, piece by piece, rebuilt this great company, winning over the workforce, the overseas dealers and, most important of all, the customers. Working with Margaret Thatcher and her Government, Egan and his team of managers overcame every obstacle, every set-back, every challenge. Again and again, it looked impossible. Yet using innovative techniques, intelligence, eloquence, openness, motor racing and much more, they saved this most charismatic company which has created some of the finest and most loved motor cars of all time.It is an amazing story that will appeal equally to car enthusiasts, those in business and readers interested in social history.
Wonderfully written by the Man Responsible for The ever-elegant Jaguar's return to profitability and normalcy after years of struggling under BL and the labour(leftist) Government in the U K and it's union allies specifically the stewards and the closed shop which ultimately and sadly all but vanished the once proud British Automakers among other industries. The book and it's well-prose along with pictures but more importantly the intrigues behind the scenes including boardroom coups including how Helpful Thatcher really was and how she helped Jag. The book is Part Business, Part Political and and full on great reading and insights, from General Motors almost having a partnership to the sad outcome of Ford owning them outright and now sadly Tata owning them, a Once Proud British firm no longer sadly waving the Union Jack. This book is about the best period outside of the William Lyons years, and it's one of the great business studies I have read in a long time, precise and easy to read and exciting. regardless if you are a follower of the Prancing Cat that is Jaguar or all out automotive aficionado I highly recommend getting yourself a copy.
