I grew up without a TV, let alone DVD’s, computer games etc that my kids spend so much time engrossed in, but I learned to read at an early age and from then on I was always entertained – so much so that my friends used to hide their books when I visited them because all I wanted to do was read!

When I was a teenager I discovered Mills & Boon romances in my local library, and so began a lifelong love affair. I still remember that feeling of anticipation when I settled down with a pile of books - all bearing the famous rose logo - knowing that I would be drawn into a world of love, passion and emotional intensity that I have never found in any other books. I enjoy reading a wide range of books, especially historical novels, and I am a big fan of Agatha Christie, mainly I think because her characters seem so real, but I love romances and unashamedly admit that I only want to read books with a guaranteed happy ending. Reading is my joy and pleasure and I don’t want to cry buckets at the end of a book or have my sleep disturbed by its gruesome content.

For me, the characters in Harlequin Mills & Boon romances are the key. I love reading and writing about strong, alpha heroes and feisty, independent heroines who find that they can’t fight the blazing attraction between them.

When I married my own tall, dark, but sadly not wealthy hero, we moved out of London to the Kent coast and started a family that grew and grew. I adore my six children, and when they were small I loved being a stay-at-home mum, but there can be days, as I’m sure many of you know, when you feel isolated and – dare I say it – bored of conversing with three-year-olds. Harlequin Mills & Boon romances were my life-line and my sanity and I read them whenever I had a spare five minutes (in the bath, pacing the floor at three am with colicky baby on one shoulder and a book in the other hand!)

My imagination soared and I decided to try and write a book myself. My first attempt was typed up on a manual type-writer with the full-stop key and the letter p missing. Luckily my hero and heroine were not called Paul and Poppy, but it still meant going over my manuscript with a pen to fill in the gaps!

That first book was duly rejected as were my next two. I suppose I was disheartened and by now I had four small children and very little spare time, so although I continued to read romances, I gave up writing. It wasn’t until my youngest son started school that I tried writing again. I was struggling to come to terms with the death of my darling mum Gabrielle and writing became my therapy. Mum had always nagged me to get on and write a book and had an unshakeable belief that I would one day be published – I’m so glad that she was proved right and my biggest regret is that she isn’t here to share my success with me.

I wrote two more books which were both rejected by HM&B, but I was given some advice on my writing from the editorial team that encouraged me to try again. Third time lucky certainly applied to me – the day I received ‘the call’ was exactly four years after Mum had died. It was one of the most exciting moments of my life - but instead of chatting to the editor about contracts I had to dash off and pick my sick daughter up from school. Reality is never far away in my house!

I have now had nine books published - At the Sheikh's Bidding was released in September 08. My next book, Argentinian Playboy, Unexpected Love-Child will be out in the UK in July 09, and The Greek Billionaire's Innocent Princess in the UK in August 09. I have just had my twelfth book accepted and am already busy on my thirteenth. Now that my children are growing up I am able to write every day between 9 am and 3 pm, but often I become so involved with my characters that I sneak off to write again in the evening!

I feel I must be one of the luckiest people in the world to be doing something that I love, but I work hard at my luck and I believe that w

A Night in the Prince’s Bed by Chantelle Shaw was a pretty good read.

There were some things that made this story unique and interesting to read:

I can’t remember even reading a Mills & Boon book set in a Nordic country and made an interesting change from the usual settings i.e. Greece, England, Italy, etc.

Loved the parts set in the hero’s snow lodge, where they see the Northern lights from his “little” hideaway, before all the lights go off….
 photo northern-lights-timelapse_zpszana6bdm.jpg

Totally romantic setting….i kept thinking of the two riding on a sleigh…..I mean….doesn’t every girl want to do this ride with a real Prince!!!
 photo tumblr_mw9mpiuK7c1r4v0u8o1_500_zpsfsmle9xn.jpg

A blond hero…normally not my kind of guy but it made a nice change. Although I did find Prince Aksel a bit cold and remote…yes, his life experiences hadn’t been that great…tragedy and betrayals…and here’s me thinking that a life of a Prince was too fabulous for words!!

The heroine, Mina – this is the first time I have read a story in a Mills & Boon novels, where the heroine is disabled….she has a hearing impediment and wears an hearing aid. However, she doesn’t let this stand in her way…she’s become an actress, is confident and has lots of spirit and knows what she wants from life!!! I liked her a lot.

I would have liked to feel more of passion between the two….the Prince is hot for her one minute and then blows cold the next!!! Not that Mina gives it back to him too!!! A bit too much angst at times!!! Do you need to have so much drama!!!!!Come on guys….go with the flow in this most romantic place and setting I say!!!

Another thing I enjoyed was the first chapter…the opening setting of the story….
The unique design of Shakespeare's Globe on London's South Bank meant that the actors on stage could see the individual faces of the audience. The theatre was a modern reconstruction of the famous Elizabethan playhouse, an amphitheatre with an open roof, above which the sky was now turning to indigo as dusk gathered. To try to recreate the atmosphere of the original theatre, minimal lighting was used, and without the glare of footlights Mina could clearly see the man's chiseled features; his razor-edged cheekbones and resolute jaw shaded with stubble that exacerbated his raw masculinity.

His mouth was unsmiling, almost stern, yet his lips held a sensual promise that Mina found intriguing. From the stage she could not make out the colour of his eyes, but she noted the lighter streaks in his dark blond hair. He was wearing the same black leather jacket he had worn on the three previous evenings, and he was so devastatingly sexy that Mina could not tear her eyes from him.
How cool was it that setting was the Globe Theatre in London???? Made it feel so real and interesting…
 photo download_zpsjd1ywno1.jpg

Anyway, Prince Charming..oops..sorry, I mean..Prince Aksel finally gets his head together…sorts himself out….Mina does too….and what happens???? Of course there’s an HEA….

Oh, you say it’s a spoiler!!!! Of course it is!!! But we all know that in the end, everything works out and everyone lives HAPPILY EVER AFTER!!!! Would we be reading Mills & Boon novels if it ended any other way!!!!!

So, if you want to read a little romantic love story with a bit of a difference, get this book!!!!

Scandinavian Prince Aksel in is London for Royal business and needs to unwind so he goes to a theater production of "Romeo and Juliet". He becomes captivated by the beautiful auburn haired woman playing Juliet and comes back every night for three nights to see her. Mina notices the handsome blond man in the audience three nights in a row and is intrigued. On the last night of the play she goes to the pub with some friends and meets the handsome blond stranger, not knowing he is a prince from a small Scandinavian country (Storvhal). Later they go to his hotel and the romance begins. I really enjoyed this book, though it seemed a bit more serious in tone. And it isn't every day I read a Harlequin Presents with a blond Scandinavian hero, which is a nice change from the endless Greeks, Sheiks, ect. The heroine Mina was very likeable and sweet. She had a severe hearing impairment since she was 8 years old and wears small hearing aids to hear. These different elements in the story made it more interesting for me. Sometimes the hero came across as a bit cold to the heroine but I guess I understood his reasons. (He had some tragedies and betrayals in his past.)

Other things I enjoyed in the book were: the icy Scandinavian setting of Storvhal, the moment when they watched the aurora borealis (Northern Lights) from their cabin, and the London theater setting at the beginning of the book.

Recommended for readers who want something a little different sometimes in their Harlequin Presents.

Now it has been awhile since I've read this book and I'm finally getting to this review. I'm going to try to remember what I felt while reading the book, but I may not remember everything. I just have my notes go by and I'm just off of that so if this review seems a little incoherent then I apologize. Going off memory alone. Going to try to keep this brief.

This story told the love story of Prince Aksel and actress Mina Hart, who overcame a hearing impairment in order to become and actress. Prince Aksel came to London to do some business for his country and found himself stopping by a play that Mina was doing. He was captivated by her and her performance and came the next two nights to watch her perform. Mina was also very aware of him when he came to see her act in the play and was very captivated and attracted to him just something about him drew her to him. After the play, they met up in a bar and had a brief flirtation going on. She never knew that he was a prince and he never volunteered the information. In fact he was trying to keep a low profile because his country didn't need any scandal and having an affair with an actress would certainly do that. So they broke apart despite the chemistry being palatable and thought they would never see each other again. But when Mina was walking home, a bunch thugs tried to attack her and Aksel came to her rescue and one thing lead to the other and she wound up back in his hotel room and they share a passionate night. The next morning reality arrives and the paparazzi found out about their little tryst and was posted all over the newspapers. Aksel believed that Mina set him up and made him target of scandal and felt betrayed and never wanted to see her again and he went back to his country.

While Mina just learned of his identity of being a prince and felt very much taken aback by the fact. And was devastated when he thought that she would betray him to the press, and sought to clear her name. So she travelled to Storvhal to do exactly that, and wound up sneaking into his car and hid in the backseat and fell asleep all cuddle up so Aksel didn't see her. He went to his remote cabin. He found Mina in the back, whose hearing aid was not working, and was furious that he was not going to be alone like he originally planned and he would be alone with her. The attraction still burned bright for both of them but he tried to push her away and feared of getting close to her. Let the game begin.

Some of the things I liked about this book was the flow. It was good pace and there was a natural flow to the writing which lead to the natural flow in their relationship. I liked how their story played out and how it developed over time with all the ups and downs of their relationship from the time they met to when they got their happily ever after. The writing was done really well and I thought Chantelle Shaw did a very good job in the development and pacing.

The story was very entertaining without any real dull moments to think of. I liked the twist of her hearing impairment which added to deep scars that she developed from childhood of being a deaf person but not letting that keep her down as she dealt wit her disability, but that mean she didn't feel isolated in the hearing world. At times it made her feel alone. I liked how the hearing impairment played a role in the story not just the fact that she was dealing with her scars but how it played a role in her relationship with him. One it was the reason why she didn't know he was driving off to his isolated cabin because she didn't hear him because the battery on her hearing aid went dead and because of that she didn't have any way of hearing Aksel when she was at the cabin so she had to focus on his lips very carefully so she could lip read and understand what he was saying. This added to how intensely she had to deal with him at the time and the hurtful words he was speaking to her face to face. He couldn't turn away from her, which was difficult for him because he had to constantly look at her and take in her beautiful features which he didn't want focus on or his attraction for her. So that was very interesting and fun dynamic to see played out. Just the intense focus they needed to have on one another at the time just so they could communicate with one another.

Again another story where love healed past hurts. I love seeing that theme and it just made it such a powerful love story. The healing that took place because of their love. Aksel had to deal with past hurts regarding his deceased son that he was forced to keep a secret from the rest of his country like he didn't exist because Aksel had him without the confines of marriage and he thought his country would condemn him for that. It was sad to see and I felt really bad for Aksel that he was forced to keep that part of himself hidden and that he had to hide his son away to keep the stability of his country intact. He had so much grief over his son's death and just all pain he had inside but didn't really deal with it because he had to keep the fact that his son existence a secret. So that had to be really hard for him, but I was glad that he unburdened himself but revealing the fact about his son to Mina, and showed his trust in her.

Their chemistry was off the charts, and very, very hot and almost uncontrollable. Their first time scene in his hotel room was steamy as were the moments between them in the cabin where they were all alone. It was fun to witness and very entertaining to see. Aksel hated that uncontrollable passion between them because he thought she betrayed him with the press and treated her accordingly not as nice as he could have been. At times he was a jerk.

And despite the heat between them which I enjoyed and liked seeing played I wished there was a little bit more tenderness between them or something a bit softer going because at times it really just felt like it was all physically with nothing deeply emotionally going on because the chemistry so hot and so scorching that the physical kind of took over in lieu of the emotional and the physical was more the focus than the emotional, which yes was fun to witness and I enjoyed seeing it played out, but I want to see some emotions to back it up at the same time. At times the physical became almost too overwhelming and took over. Not that it was less fun just over encompassing.

I think what was needed to make the physical and attraction not so overwhelming was the fact that there was not that denial between them before jumping into bed again. It was surface denial and trying to tell yourself not to do it but then do again anyway because it couldn't help, but I would have liked to see that denial which would have added angst as well as tension between the pair. If they just kept jumping into bed together then the conflict kind of seemed rather flimsy because the reason they denied their attraction seemed rather moot instead of a real obstacle standing in their way. Just I needed a little more angst to up the emotional stakes as well physical too and add another layer to the story. Just I think they gave in to easily without too much. I want to see that struggle that what makes romances fun and yes they did a token denial but nothing really serious and I knew they would end up in bed once again. And again there was tension that was fun to observe but there could have been a little bit more and just up the stakes a bit.

Despite the fact that love seem to heal both of them, I wasn't a hundred percent sold on the fact that he was quite in love with her yet. Not believably anyway. I could definitely see him heading in that direction and that he did care very deeply for her, but I don't think it was love quite yet. On her part, yes. Not so much his but I knew he would get there eventually and make her happy in the future. Just wasn't there yet.

Overall this was an entertaining story that had a few twists turns along the way. I did like their relationship and could see them head for a real love connection. They definitely helped each other heal and deal with past hurts. I wish there was a bit more time in the cabin and have them explore emotions and the physical relationship there while they were alone and away from the outside world. I kind of expected that especially when the back synopsis made such a big deal of it. I would have liked to see them trapped there a bit longer and her without her hear aid. It think would have added a bit more to the story as well as another layer, but it was a good story overall and I enjoyed seeing it all played out before my very eyes. They definitely had chemistry in spades and that was fun. It was definitely worth the read.

When I read in the description that the heroine was deaf, I was intrigued. Sadly it all went south from there.

Mina is Darcey's sister (the heroine from the book Secrets of A Powerful Man)and an actress in her father's Shakespearean play, "Romeo & Juliet" (she is Juliet). After a couple of encounters she has with Aksel, who is the prince of Storvahl, they end up spending the night together. Of course the paparazzi gets tipped off and he blames Mina, as well as accusing her of sleeping with him to further her own gain. Never mind he lied to her and never told her he was a prince. She then follows him to Storvahl to try to clear her name and they end up doing a lot of back and forth with her of course ending up in his bed.

He was such an ice-cold jerk for most of the book. Despite the tragedy he encountered, he just was not a nice guy or much of a prince to be honest and I got annoyed with her constantly romanticizing everything and thinking that she could just make him see that he was wrong and that he actually did feel something for her. I don't think it's endearing when a woman is made to grovel or beg for love, which unfortunately so often happens in HPs. Also case in point- the ending. Mina leaves after his proposal and then comes back to him because she's made the mistake and then he claims he would've come for her because he finally realized he loved her. Right. Forgive me if I DON'T believe that at all. A disappointing read for me.

Ini sih baguuuuus, heuheu

Such a good story, really. 3,5 🌟 actually, but i gave 3 🌟 on goodreads. I want to give 4 🌟, but well, yeah..

Sayang banget sih ini kurang dieskplor. Kayak semuanya tiba-tiba dan kerasa terlalu singkat. Padahal permainan emosinya juga bagus. Kependekan aja gitu.

I was thinking Harlequin's genre is an erotica romance or else, so i rarely pick up the book with this kind of genre.

Got my point?

Intinya aku udah suudzon gitu sama genre harlequin, wkwk. Seenggaknya buku ini aman dikonsumsi tanpa aku perlo scroll down ampe setengah buku, wkwk

I loved this short read . It's about 250 pages long , but it's full of emotional angst and heartache, action adventure and steaming hot love scenes .
The characters are likeable even when the pain they are inflicting on one another is gut wrenching and cruel.
I would love to read more by Chantelle Shaw in the future and will definitely recommend her books to my friends.

Mayan sih, pendek, compact gitu.

Glad that it has happy ending~

I loved the story, the protagonists and the amazing Scandinavian location of this book. Not too many books are based in locations around Arctic Circle. It made me want to cuddle up with a cashmere blankie.... In NYC in August.

Prince Aksel ran quite hot and cold where Mina was concerned. That was a man with issues! However, I still empathized with him because of the betrayals he had to face by all the people that should have loved him and also for his heartbreaking loss.

Mina was amazing! She had more strength than I would have considering the challenges she also faced.

Although quite drama filled, this story made for a great read.

Really nice, the location was really exotic and made a good rationale for the ensuing enforced seduction. Both leads were very good, and although I think Aksel was perhaps a trifle overdone, it's difficult to appreciate how damaged someone can be if you haven't suffered in early life as they have. Similarly, Mina struck me as a very interesting and intriguing character. I think this is the first disabled lead character I have ever read about.

Satisfying overall in pace, plot and emotional depth, this is a great read.
