This April SQUIRREL GIRL meets MS. MARVEL – for the very first time! When Doreen Green (also known as the unbeatable Squirrel Girl) volunteers as head counselor for an extra-curricular computer programming camp, little does she know that junior counselor Kamala Khan moonlights as crime fighting super hero Ms. Marvel! But this coding camp is more than just ones and zeros when A.I.M. makes an appearance! Will our heroes be able to save the campers without blowing their secret identities? Join Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, America, Inferno, and Patriot as they learn exactly what it means to be a young hero in the Marvel Universe – and what it means to be a hero to each other.
Devin Grayson is an avid gamer, former acting student, and enthusiastic reader fortunate enough to have turned a lifelong obsession with fictional characters into a dynamic writing career. She has a B.A. from Bard College, where she studied creative writing with novelist Mona Simpson. Best known for her work on the Batman titles for DC Comics, Devin has been a regular writer on Catwoman, Nightwing, and The Titans, and contributed to the award-winning No Man’s Land story arc. With the publication of Batman: Gotham Knights in March of 2000, she became the first (and, sadly, only as of 2020) female to create, launch and write an ongoing Batman title.
Additional career highlights include the launch of the critically acclaimed series Omni for Humanoids, Doctor Strange: The Fate of Dreams, an original novel featuring Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme, and USER—a highly personal three-part, creator-owned miniseries about gender identity and online role-playing, originally published by Vertigo and newly available as a collected edition hardcover through Image. Devin is also the creator of Yelena Belova, a Marvel character staring in the upcoming MCU Black Widow movie (played by Florence Pugh), Damien Darhk, a DC character now appearing regularly in CW’s Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow (played by Neal McDonough), and Catalina Flores, a DC character recently featured as the super-villain Tarantula in The Lego Batman Movie.
Frequently cited for compelling character development and nuanced exploration of complex themes, Devin’s work has been showcased in mainstream media such as USA Today and Working Woman as well as in alternative press such as The Village Voice, The Advocate, and Curve magazine. Over the years, she has written in several different media and genres, from comic books and novels to video game scripts and short essays. She is currently working on an original graphic novel for Berger Books.
Devin lives in Northern California with her husband, step-son, devoted Early Alert Canines Diabetic Alert Dog, and somewhat less devoted cat. Openly bisexual, she is a passionate advocate for the GLBTQ community, as well as being a committed environmentalist, and a public speaker for T1 Diabetes awareness and Diabetic Alert Dogs. She is always happy to take on a new challenge, especially if it involves making some new fictional friends.
Loved this - Ms Marvel and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl - amongst others to be introduced - can you get any better than this selection of characters?! Will definitely be picking up this series!
I hope to God I got this as a free one-story because the 5 minutes it took me to read it could have been better spent buying a cookie. I will say it turned me off completely for any future Marvel Rising comics. So if you're asking me, just don't; buy a cookie, a coffee, get in line for a lotto ticket, take a quick 5 minute nap. Anything other than wasting your precious 5 mins
We picked this up for free from a comic book shop a few weeks ago, and I read it today. It's really short, but the art is lovely and the story was fun. Even funny!
It's pretty much a superhero team-up with the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl--who is adorable--and Ms. Marvel--who is kick-ass. They take on AIM while Doreen Green is supposed to be showing the kids around the Howard Anthony Stark Institute for Technical Excellence...
Like I said, it's fast, fun, and probably leads into more exciting adventures.
And it does get me excited about reading more Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. 😀
He leído la edición completa de 100% Marvel pero no la encuentro en Goodreads. Una historia entretenida, aunque me resulta gracioso que pongan en portada a personajes que ni de mencionan en el tomo, como Capitana Marvel.
Just a silly, quick whirlwind of an introduction between the two main super heroines. I don't know how they get so much ass kicking done with all the dialogue!
MS. MARVEL AND SQUIRREL GIRL TEAM UP!!!! <3 <3 <3 :D I wish I had known about this comic sooner, because I loved the film!
There was one flaw that I didn't quite get, though:
Squirrel Girl says that she's a fan of Ms. Marvel and Ms. Marvel says the same to Squirrel Girl, understandably. But then Ms. Marvel questions Squirrel Girl's mention of Tippy Toe?? I feel like if they're fans of each other, they'd at least generally know the names of any important sidekicks presented. Ms. Marvel never outright says anywhere that Bruno is a sidekick (if you want to think of him that way), but Squirrel Girl... I dunno, her ties to Tippy Toe--who's a squirrel--kinda cement her role as Squirrel Girl, so it makes sense that Tippy Toe would be known as a sidekick or even as a "pet squirrel" or something.
I'm giving this 4 stars, because this is kinda an introduction piece, but I'm definitely looking forward to reading more!!
This was a decent book that was reasonably self-contained, which featured one character I really like, and one that I'm not particularly fond of. It was cute, and introduced a new character, and a new series, apparently, but I found the characterization a bit off for Kamala. I don't think I will likely follow up on it, because I am not a fan of this iteration of Squirrel Girl (though I have enjoyed previous ones), but if you are interested in some of the newer heroes coming out of Marvel these days, you might like this one, and I appreciated that while it was the start of a new series, it was also relatively self-contained.
Another one I really wanted to like. Maybe I just have trouble getting into first issues? Again, good art, I'm already a big fan of Ms Marvel, Squirrel girl I'm kinda eh on, so that didn't help. They were cute teamed up together. And I do think this one is geared towards a younger audience so that probably effected my view as well. I really want to see more of the characters it seems they are planning for this rrun, so I will give the first full issue a try.
A bright, colorful romp, this was a fun introduction to two characters I haven't read much of in the past outside the large crossover events. Both the writing and the art were engaging, although, having not read much of the previous titles with these two characters, I found myself wondering what was going on at one or two moments. But, it was nothing that truly stopped my enjoyment of the issue.
I picked this one up on free comic day last year. It took me basically a year to get the others from my comic book store, because when 2 finally came, it was a wrongly printed one. Once I finally had all of them and could binge them, man, I love these. They are fun, well thought out, love the gaming involved and great artwork. All and all, a great comic.
This is a very short comic currently free on Kindle as an advert for the younger characters of the Marvel Universe. The art is nice and clear, otherwise everything is as you’d expect. Nice production values but utterly forgettable.
Enjoyable. Essentially a Ms. Marvel/Squirrel Girl team-up. It had some funny bits, and a very cute art style. I really look forward to the cartoon it is foreshadowing.
Tombé par hasard sur l'édition électronique gratuite sur Amazon (si si ! regardez), cette introduction est très conventionnelle mais réussit son boulot en teasant bien pour la suite.
Aww, I love the team up of Squirrel Girl and Ms. Marvel. Also wonderful that it featured so many women interested in programming and computer engineering.
It"s the best comic I've read so far! Well, it's the first comic I've read so far, but it's still really good. The only thing that could make it better would be to make it longer. I found it quite short and it's pretty hard to enjoy something's awesomeness if it's only 5 to 6 pages long, but otherwise, I absolutely LOVED it!
I thought this comic was a great introduction into the next generation of Marvel superheroes. I got my copy at Free Comic Book Day and I loved the team-up of Ms. Marvel and Squirrel Girl. I’m familiar with Ms. Marvel, but not Squirrel Girl, though, after reading this comic, I’d like to read more about Squirrel Girl. She is a very relatable character that I’m excited to see more of. I don’t know who the A. I. M. Agents are, but I’m mainly concerned with who they were working for and why he’s so interested in Ember. And will Ember join Ms. Marvel and Squirrel Girl’s Team? I’m already bursting at the seams for the next issue. I would recommend this comic to Gen Z and fans of Marvel.
