After being incredibly disappointed by the Death of Wolverine, I have been waiting patiently for his inevitable return. When I heard his return story would be written by the same writer, I was a bit disappointed, because I really did not enjoy the Death story. It felt too compressed and forced, and I was concerned that the return would be much the same. This is only the first issue, but it does not appear that the return will be as compressed, since it will be taking place across several mini-series. This issue mostly covers the revelation that Wolverine is no longer in his grave, after a conflict with the Reavers, who have found its secret location and tried to remove it. It sets up a few different teams who are looking in different ways to find the missing Wolverine, and I am interested to see how it is resolved.
The cover art looks glorious. Little did I know why it was so. Logan's been a popular character in the Marvel Universe. He has snikt'd his way through every other character's timeline. It is no wonder each of them came to pay their respects to Logan, whose body was tragically subjected to molten adamantium. That's not all. There is someone who is trying to get his/her hands on Logan's genetic sample.
The Reavers discover Wolverine's cabin. The X-Men left his body covered by molten adamantium as a shrine. It's still worth a fortune, so when the good guys show up, the Reavers try to get a biological sample of it. They find the adamantium is only an empty shell. Wolverine's body was taken out of the adamantium by Kitty Pride. But now she finds it gone from his grave. Oh, no! The comic book death has struck again!
It was inevitable, but I’m glad he’s back. I have enjoyed his old man counterpart, but I miss the berserker with a Napoleon complex. I like the cast of characters they have recruited for this search, and I hope Logan gets to do one significant story arch with Old Man Logan before Marvel puts him out to pasture.
