Systematic Pentecostal and Charismatic Theology
Pentecostal Theology: Living the Full Gospel

Pentecostalism is the most rapidly growing branch of Christianity since the 20th century, yet it does not lend itself well to a singular doctrine and there is, therefore, no single comprehensive account of Pentecostal theology worldwide. In this volume, Wolfgang Vondey suggests an account of Pentecostal theology that is genuine to Pentecostals worldwide while allowing for different adaptation and explication among the various Pentecostal groups. He argues that Pentecostal theology is fundamentally concerned with the renewal of the Christian life identified by the transforming work of the Holy Spirit and directed toward the kingdom of God.
The book unfolds in two main parts illustrating the full gospel story and theology. Eleven chapters identify the spiritual underpinnings and motivations for Pentecostal theology, formulate a Pentecostal theology of action, translate, apply, and exemplify Pentecostal practices and experiences, and integrate Pentecostal theology in the wider Christian tradition.

Wolfgang Vondey
38 books7 followersVondey is a classically trained systematic theologian with a PhD in the field of systematic theology and ethics. I teach and research in the area of Contemporary Christianity and Pentecostal and Charismatic Studies with concentration on the theology of those movements. This focus in integrated in my larger concerns for pneumatology, ecclesiology, ecumenical theology, and the intersection of theology and science. I teach in the Master of Arts programme in Evangelical and Charismatic Studies and direct the Centre for Pentecostal and Charismatic Studies with teaching and supervision in the Department of Theology and Religion.

Enfin ! Enfin le livre que je voulais lire.
Enfin un livre de théologie pentecôtiste où l'on ne rajoute pas seulement des pages concernant le Saint Esprit mais où l'on cherche à définir ce qu'il y a de spécifique à cette orientation théologique.
Pour ce faire Vondey utilise trois items
1) le jour de la Pentecôte comme "symbole"
2) le "plein évangile" comme narratif.( Par plein évangile il faut comprendre les formules type "Jesus guérit, Jésus Sauve, Jésus baptise de l'Esprit et Jésus revient")
3) l'autel comme métaphore définissant la praxis.
Et il y arrive très bien, on y découvre et comprend pourquoi telle chose se fait et pourquoi de telle façon. On a une vraie théologie pentecôtiste, cohérente avec elle même.
Du coup Vondey n'essaie pas de faire rentrer la théologie pentecôtiste dans un autre moule (principalement réformé) mais préfère créer un dialogue entre les théologies. (À noter qu'il souligne à plusieurs reprises les similitudes avec la pensée orthodoxe orientale).
De plus Vondey a aussi l'intelligence de ne pas se contenter de puiser ses informations seulement en Amérique du Nord mais prend en compte aussi les contributions africaines, asiatique, chilienne (!).
Ce qui fait que parfois certains thèmes défini comme important ne le sont pas forcément pour tous (par exemple l'écologie) et il y a un manque de nuances sur l'acceptation de certaines positions.
Par contre il ne faut pas y chercher une liste de position doctrinale sur tout les sujets mais plutôt des orientations générales, même si l'on devine bien ce que devrait être la position pentecôtiste sur certains sujets particulier (arminianisme /calvinisme, crédo/paedobaptisme).
Un mot sur le style... Ce n'est pas une lecture facile. Vondey fait de longue phrase pas toujours facile à suivre. J'ai plusieurs fois dû relire un paragraphe entier. Mais ça en valait la peine.

What I understood was good. Maybe someday I can reread it when I am less stupid and understand more. Then I might have beef with Vondey. To be decided.
