There is surprisingly little information, considering the book's title, about the actual leisure and pleasure activities of the period. That is, that author briefly describes what people used to do for fun, goes on to criticise them, because they, apparently, are doing it wrong, or for wrong reasons, or in a not good enough taste, or something, then drops a few names of famous artists, statesmen, writers, etc., who are also heavily criticised for their personal shortcomings, and so she goes through the entire century. The tone of the book is by turns judgemental, condecending and dramatic. As to factual information, there is nothing in this book that was not covered elswhere in a more detailed and less annoying manner.
