She was finally his. After months of being stuck in the hospital recovering from one of the dumbest moments of his life, Jodi was his, and he was going to make sure that she stayed that way, which of course meant a trip Vegas, some help from his family, and breaking a few laws. Danny didn't care what he had to do, as long as he got to keep his Tinkerbelle.
Mackenzie Hart began her writing journey with scattered ideas and sticky notes, until she finally took a leap of faith in 2024 and penned her debut novel, Cowgirls Don’t Cry. She loves writing heartfelt stories with swoony heroes and smart, relatable heroines. Mackenzie lives in Arkansas with her high school sweetheart and their three children. Wow, I haven't hated a book so much in a long time. I love the Neighbor from Hell series and was really looking forward to the Honeymoon from Hell novellas.
The first problem was the editing. The novella was typo ridden. I found 11 before I stopped counting. In two additional places I noticed the wrong character's name was used. All the chapters from the hero's point of view referred to him as "he". Unfortunately, there are three "he"s in the story and it's not always clear who "he" is referring to. There were many times where directly following a paragraph where Trevor, Jason, or Ethan are named doing something, "he" is written as doing something that doesn't follow. When I read further down into the next paragraph, "he" is now talking about his wife so I know it must be Danny referred to in the prior paragraph. There were many paragraphs that consisted of one long run on sentence. The one I marked was 51 words long. These sentences are difficult to follow and it's annoying to have to decode them. All these technical problems pulled me out of the story and made it impossible to enjoy reading it.
There were other problems that made it hard to read. There were a couple of continuity problems I noticed. This is from near the beginning of the story: "While most of the men in his family thought that the Bradford curse was bullshit, he knew better. He'd seen the curse hit his uncles and cousins enough times over the years to know better than to risk it." This is from near the end of the story after they'd actually experienced the curse: "He didn't give a flying fuck if the curse was nothing more than just bullshit stories passed down from generation to generation to fuck with their heads. The only thing that mattered was his family and he wasn't going to take any risks, which meant that they needed to continue heading home tonight."
The last thing I'll mention is the repetition. I did a search for "balls" and found twelve references to Danny's balls getting kicked or otherwise injured. Enough! I get that he's being a typical Bradford jerk and she's a typical Bradford wife, but find another way to express it. The other example of the repetition are the frequent recaps of the story. It's a novella - I think I can remember what happened.
So, while I love the characters and the Bradford craziness, I hated this story. It seemed like it was written in a few days and released without any critical review.
6 Stars... I loved it, specially loved how Danny's father misbehave and obviously we get to see Jason and Trevor being annoying and not letting them have their honeymoon but Danny knows what will happen. Just loved it...
“That might be the best idea,” his father agreed with a cringe when Jodi managed to make a two hundred and fifty pound officer drop to the floor in a fetal position and sob quietly to himself."
I still love how Jodi reacts to pain killers, that should be awesome to watch.
Another Honeymoon from Hell, - Danny Bradford is trying to make this one a non-honeymoon by inviting his Dad and cousins and not sleeping with his bride after kidnapping her to Vegas.
Very silly and fun, which is the point of this series. I did find Danny's injury very confusing...one minute he could walk, then he couldn't, then he could. Oh, well, it was still cute.
When Danny finally admits to himself that he is in love with Jodi he starts planning her abduction and the breaking of a city wide ban. He does absolutely everything within his power to make sure it is in no way a Honeymoon but does that stop the curse. It doesn’t seem to. There are arrests, new bans, cars, planes and oh so much more in this hilarious tale of an awful honeymoon that isn’t really a honeymoon at all.
Oh my god! Jodi’s adverse effects to medicine this book is downright crazy! This is by far my favorite in the HFH stories. Not that the actual trip was at all honeymoon related, but the curse seems to strike anyways. I love that it not only affects the newlyweds but also seems to strike anybody around them at the time. So Jason, Trevor and Danny’s father are all swept up in the curse as well. Now that is a productive curse lol.
Absolutely loved this book! Those poor cops didn’t even see it coming. Can’t wait to see what happens in the next one and I hope to see more HFH books soon!
Danny, in typical Bradford fashion, decides to take matters into his own hands and marry Jodi. Jodi, unbeknownst to her, is set up by Jason, Trevor, Danny and Ethan. They successfully get her to Vegas, fly under the radar of the cops due to the ban and get an JP to get the wedding done. In order to avoid the "curse" Danny, his father and two cousins, deem that if they just get in an out of Vegas all will be well. As usual, it does not work out how they wanted it to and things go awry pretty much from the get go. After 5 months of waiting for Danny to be released from the hospital, Jodi is at a loss as to what is happening and why Danny is going to such bizarre extremes. I will not tell you if Danny pulls it all off, but just know that he does fear for his nipples and balls quite a bit during this book. It was another quick, easy and enjoyable read.
I really did enjoy this book but I'm very glad she added the last chapter from Danny and jodi's story because I forgot it. Either it was too long ago I read the book or they just weren't as memorable. Maybe both but it was over a year since I did read them.
Update: finished for second time. Read their story then honeymoon so this time I caught the time line. 5 months last in the book but they had been home 2 months. For their honeymoon, it was 5 months in the hospital then they got married. I know it’s not a huge deal but it I don’t like the inconsistencies like that. Esp when the last chapter was added and backed up
Danny, in typical Bradford fashion, kidnapped Jodi for quick wedding in Vegas. He had to enlist the help from his father and his cousins. Little did they know that they met their match in the very tiny and very pregnant Jodi. Thinking he could outsmart the curse was another bad idea. Between no-fly lists, buffet bans and some jail time nothing went right. It take getting home and talking it out to get to where they belong.
Just like the previous HFH book, this was a great new addition to the Neighbors from Hell series. Danny and Jodi brought back some funny memories of Jodi not handling medication very well. I liked having Jason and Trevor in this story because they are 2 of my favorite Bradfords. It was a bit over the top with the way they portrayed Jodi in jail - I felt as though she was a rabid animal who was feasting on food and people. It was strange. Overall it was a fun story and I enjoyed it
I love the NFH series!! It is one of my go-to reads. So when RL put out her Honeymoon From Hell series I was excited. These little glimpses into the lives of our favorite couples from NFH are amazing. This book was what happened when Danny and Jodi got married!! I loved it!! It was everything I thought it would be and oh so much more! It was so funny, like laugh out loud funny!!
Ahh, I would love Danny whether he was a Bradford or not, simply because he is best friends with the awesome Jason and Trevor! He thought he could get one over on the Curse with his trickery, get Jodi to marry him and be home before the madness started.... not a chance! Fab edition to the series, can't wait to start number VI!
AHH..THE AWESOMENESS OF R L MATHEWSON. SHE CONTINUES THE FUNNY, TOUCHING, ROMANTIC STORY WITHOUT A HITCH. IT SCREAMS FUN, SEXY AND LOVE. SHES A GEM AND THE BOOK IS FREAKIN AWESOME!I READ ALL THE HONEYMOON STORIES..THEY PAIR UP FLAWLESSLEY. CANT WAIT TO SEE WHATS NEXT..
The honeymoon that wasn't really a honeymoon! I loved this story right from the first page. I can never get enough of Jason and Trevor and the trouble that follows them when they are trying to help out a family member. Danny and Jodi are amazing; I can't wait to meet the babies.
I wasn't a huge fan of Jodi, and this did little to change it. The story was okay, but it was the antics of Ethan that truly made the story, with Jason and Trevor being the sprinkle. The main characters and their story, meh, they were forgettable in their own story
Geez, Danny just breaks my heart! His love for Jodi surmounts his own problems. Just reading abut what he does (even with his thickheaded Bradford ways), just made me want to squeeze him! Sooooo good!
Nothing like an elopement with Jodi, Danny, Jason, Ethan & Trevor as they illegally sneak into Vegas when the honeymoon curse kicks in! oh, & mix in Jodi's poor reaction to any medication...even baby asprin.
