To flirt or to slap? It all started so…innocently? Mischievously is probably a better word. Skye fell in love. Hard! Mark was big and tall, muscular and charming. In bed he made her scream. Out of bed, he made her laugh. He was the perfect guy! But…he was a SWAT team member. He dove into the most dangerous situations without a second thought. So far, he’d come out of each mission alive, but…what about that one time when he didn’t? Skye was in too deep. She needed out. She loved Mark too much to wait around for that phone call. Mark woke up one morning, diamond ring in his pocket…only to find Skye gone. Not just gone, but he couldn’t find her. Until fates conspired and he moved from New York to LowPoint, Kentucky. He not only found the woman he couldn’t forget, but he also discovered that he was about to be a dad. Of babies! Yes, plural! Twins! Could they figure out how to move forward? Could Skye learn to live with the danger of his occupation?

I quite enjoyed this next contribution to the Lottery Winners. It's about Mark, second-in-command of the finest SWAT team in New York headed by his best friend Emerson, the hero of the previous book Caught. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

Skye designs websites and has the liberty to work from wherever she likes, which is why ever since she lost her mother whom she loved to cancer a year ago she left Atlanta, driving and stopping at any city or town that caught her fancy. New York was her tenth city in one year.

The start is fun and awesome. We have Skye working on her laptop in a bar when a tall, handsome, muscular guy approaches her with an unusual request to slap him. He explains to her he has a bet with his friends, who were watching the two of them. In the few ensuing moments before Skye leaves the bar they flirt with each other & yes, he wins the bet. Hvr, no names were exchanged between them. The next time Skye is waiting for her blind-date at a coffee shop who was late when her mystery man from the bar appears & tells her he's her blind-date, but Skye rightly doesn't believe him, but they do end up flirting a little more before she leaves. Once again they don't know each others names. They meet again few days later and finally introduce themselves. Mark then invites her to dinner, which she accepts & after dinner they end up at Mark's place. Lots of steamy sex follows, handcuffs & all. Both are so taken up with each other that they do not want to stop seeing each other and so fall into a relationship .

Meanwhile, Emerson decides to leave the SWAT team to take up position as Sheriff of a small town in Kentucky called Low Point --which was the start of Caught where Mark ribs him for leaving NY for a small town-- so, Mark takes over as commander of the SWAT team.

One day, two months into their blissful relationship, while Skye is waiting for Mark at a bar, she sees on television there's a hostage situation & it's reported a member of the SWAT member was fatally wounded, but they weren't releasing the officer's name. Mark too, was unreachable on phone. Irony of the whole thing is that in the two months they've known each other she didn't know his surname or his office was. She panics and ends up at a park where she keeps throwing up and thinks it's because of the fear. She keeps telling herself she's not in love with Mark.

'She wouldn't love a man who could be killed by stupid drug dealers who thought they could arbitrarily shoot people! It was time to move on.'

I have to say she really pissed me off here. Instead of finding out whether Mark was alive or dead, she goes home & starts packing to leave NY. I can understand panic, fear, also denial about being in love with Mark, but I'd think at least on humanitarian grounds one would want to know the person you've been sleeping with on a daily basis, a person you've spent every day of the past two months with, is alive or dead. She came across as absolutely unfeeling & self-centered. Which is why all her tears & guilt-talk about being a coward during their separation didn't really move me as it would've done otherwise.

Nevertheless, while she's packing, Mark lands up on her doorstep. Relieved to see him alive, although bruised, she asks him to make love to her all along having made up her mind to leave him. She leaves before he wakes up the following morning & as she drives through various towns she ends up at Low Point where she falls in love with the town and its friendly people and decides to settle there. Few weeks later she makes a shocking discovery. She tries to reach Mark and as she later tells Mark, she'd called many SWAT Teams in NY, but there were too many Marks & she didn't know his surname. The explanation was funny because she did know he was the Commander of the team & he was there in that particular hostage incident. Another irony, was she had no clue that the local sheriff, who was also her friend's husband, was Mark's best friend and through him she could've reached Mark easily. Nevertheless, the author wanted to show a long separation.

Mark wakes up to see Skye gone. All that the note she'd left behind said "I can't do this." He searches crazily for her and weeks later when he finds himself at a dead end, he starts doing all sorts of things to forget her, drinking till he got sick waking up with a hangover, pushing himself at exercise beyond endurance, dating etc, but all in vain. His colleagues found the usually fun and cheerful man, furious & snippy all the time. It finally reaches Emerson's ears.

Six months of Skye leaving him, Mark receives a call from Emerson who offers him a job as his deputy in Low Point. Believing the change will help him Mark accepts the offer. Loved the scene where his big, noisy, loving family sees him off. Few days into the job he sees a familiar face from the window of his office walking down the street and runs to check for himself. He is shocked that it was not only the woman who'd left him sleeping, but a heavily pregnant Skye. He was vacillating between being happy or furious when she drops the bombshell she's carrying twins.

Nevertheless, when she tells him hers is a high-risk pregnancy Mark's protective instincts kicks in. The delivery scene was funny. Ms. Lennox had a similar funny delivery scene in one of her Sheikh's book where that heroine actually climbed down from the birthing table. In this one Mark ends up with numb fingers. But then he gets a scare when Skye's life is in danger after the delivery & had to be wheeled into surgery. He knew he loved her and didn't want to lose her.

His scenes with his newborn sons, how he introduces himself to them then learns how to feed & clean them while Skye is in recovery is too adorable. I also liked the scenes as Mark & Skye take to parenthood. Loved the epilogue in the end where we have Mark's family and the entire town of Low-point attending his and Skye's marriage. Mark was a total charmer and it was mainly because of him that I enjoyed the book. I had a hard time connecting with Skye. She irritated at times, which is why the few scenes she tried to be funny fell flat for me. She was just about okay.

The next book is on the only unmarried one amongst the Lottery Winners, Tony, the famous celebrity chef & his waitress-cum-bartender, Julia. In previous books of this series, we got glimpses of how smitten Tony is with Julia, but has been fighting it off. I liked the scene in this book where Mark instantly recognizes the spark between Tony & Julia & through eye communication Emerson confirms it for him. Looking forward to reading it.

“A challenge! Hmmm…to flirt or to slap.”

SWAT team member has a bet with his mates that he can get a woman to slap him within 3 minutes. The woman he approaches is Skye Thomas, web designer on a deadline, and inclined not to play the game. Until, despite her better judgement, she’s intrigued, and decides to negotiate half of the bet money in exchange for a slap. Three pages in and I’m also intrigued! Skye is audacious and sassy, and, she beats Mark and his buddies at their own game.

I have to admit that while I might not own everything that Elizabeth Lennox writes, I go on a bender and have to re-read my favourites, or invest in a couple of new books. Charmed, book 6 in this series is the new book and I absolutely enjoyed it. I’ve picked up the free prequel that sets the scene for this series, and I’ll be checking the others out.

It you are the sort of reader who enjoys hot and sexy books that are a real romance at heart, and have the requisite HEA, then I’d highly recommend Elizabeth Lennox as an author for you. She writes in series, where each book is a stand-a-lone but have inter-acting characters, and you can start toward the end as I have, yet know that you will not be missing out on essential plot information. There’s also a free prequel that introduces characters, and sets the scene. 4 Stars for a quick read.

This is the next to the las book n the Lottery Winner series. This was a great story we leave the small Kentucky town and return to NYC. This story continues where Emerson leaves as SWT commander and his second in charge Mark takes over. He begins a relationship with Skye and transient who is trying to find her niche. She and Mark are getting serious and his job scares Skye away. Months later they meet in Kentucky of all places and Skye has a surprise she’s pregnant. It’s nice watching them face their feelings.

"Charmed" is the story of Skye and Mark.

Basically, the hero and heroine fall into bed after a few meetings. He has a dangerous job, she is easily spooked and runs away. After loads of running away and baby drama, ends in a HEA.

Loads of miscommunication in this one, mostly their relationship was sex so didnt feel the romance.

This story had great potential, and I enjoyed it a great deal until about 30% of the way in, when the h became a sniveling coward. I didn't like her at all after that and I was disappointed after how well it had started out.

Great

This book is the story of two side characters in the lottery winners, not the original winners. This is the story of the second in command of the NYC SWAT team the sheriff of Low Point came from. He is now in Low Point as one of the sheriff's deputies.

The beginning of this book has one of the best pick scenarios ever written. Any smart woman would fall for it. Absolutely brilliantly written. I am smitten with this author. Elizabeth’s books kept me going through the latter half of this year.
