A 3D masterpiece celebrating Harry Potter's Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from New York Times best-selling pop-up engineer Matthew Reinhart.
Harry Potter: A Pop-Up Guide to Hogwarts is an exhilarating, interactive guide to the iconic school of witchcraft and wizardry. This book features spectacular pop-up re-creations of key locations inside and outside Hogwarts castle, and it opens flat to form a pop-up map of the castle and its grounds - including the Quidditch pitch, the Forbidden Forest, and beyond.
In addition to large pops on each spread, numerous mini-pops will bring to life beloved elements from the Harry Potter films, such as the Marauder's Map and the Flying Ford Anglia. Each pop will include insightful text about Hogwarts as seen in the films, making for a must-have collectible for fans of the Wizarding World.
Matthew Christian Reinhart was born September 21, 1971 to Gary and Judith Reinhart in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The son of a farmer, his father Gary joined the Navy and so the family moved around the country, from Florida to Texas to Illinois to California to Virginia and then South Carolina. Judith and Matthew followed along, and soon to be joined by his little sister, Erin.
Art was always a huge part of Matthew Reinhart’s young life. Drawing pictures and making crafts were his favorite activities, in school and out. Matthew drew whenever and wherever he got the chance; in fact, school notebooks often had more drawings than notes! He loved drawing and reading about all creatures and animals so much, he drew them everywhere!
After high school, chose to study biology in preparation for medical school, thinking a career in art was too far-fetched. College life at Clemson University in South Carolina was busy for Matthew, but he was never really satisfied. Medicine was not his true calling, so along with his required science classes, Matthew took various art courses to build up his portfolio.
After graduating college, moved to New York City for a year before starting medical school. There, he met acclaimed children’s book author Robert Sabuda doing volunteer work together for a local community center. Robert's book, Christmas Alphabet had just released to rave reviews, and he convinced Matthew to follow his true calling. The following year, Matthew attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. as an industrial design major (concentrating in toy design).
Pratt was fantastic experience for him, but his initial dreams of being a toy designer soon transformed into paper engineer. After working with Robert on books like The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, A B C Disney and Movable Mother Goose. Matthew made his first big break into the pop-up world with The Pop Up Book Of Phobias. Many books collaborations have followed, including a trilogy of New York Times best-selling Encyclopedia Prehistorica and the following series Encyclopedia Mythologica with Robert Sabuda, along with Mommy?, co-authored with the renowned Maurice Sendak and Brava Strega Nona with the ageless Tomie DePaola. His solo pop-up books include The Ark, Animal Popposites, The Jungle Book, Cinderella, The Pop-Up Book of Nursery Rhymes, and STAR WARS: Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy. He continues to work and live in New York City, cutting, taping and folding paper into pop-up masterpieces.
Preložil som ďalšiu filmovú knihu o HP! A tentoraz je to pop-up!
Harry Pottter: A Pop-Up Guide to Hogwarts is exactly what it sounds like, an interactive 3D pop-up model of Hogwarts Castle as well as locations like the Quidditch pitch, the Forbidden Forest and even part of Hogsmead Village. There are five large models that can be opened separately or if you're very careful you can fold out the entire book into one huge map. Although it was fun to open the book out fully once I found that when you've done that it's so big that you can't really appreciate all of the little details so I actually prefer to look at the models separately so I can fully enjoy what I'm seeing.
This is the kind of book that you never get tired of because there are just so many little hidden doors and windows to open, additional pull tabs that bring out new pop-ups or move characters around etc, that every time you look at a page you find your eyes drawn to a new detail that you didn't spot before. Honestly, the amount of detail is insane and if you have a torch on hand for looking inside the models you'll find even more. Spot Hagrid baking rock cakes in his house or Harry and his friends having a Herbology lesson in the greenhouse, you can even help Harry catching a golden snitch on the Quidditch pitch!
This book isn't cheap so I was hesitant to make the purchase at full price but it was well worth the money when I found it going cheap on Amazon. As lovely as it is I still think it's over priced at £50 but for around £20 I think Harry Potter fans will be very happy with it.
I found it really difficult to take decent pics of the pop-ups but hopefully these photos should give you some idea of the amount of detail included:
Hogwarts Castle part one where you can peek inside the dormitories
Dumbledore's Office
Hogwarts Castle part two with the classrooms and greenhouses
The Quidditch Pitch
Hogsmead Village with an interactive Marauders Map
The Forbidden Forest & Hagrid's Hut
The entire map folded out (with a bonus curious kitty who wanted to know what I was up to!)
Alebo v obrázku ukráva ešte jeden pop-up vyskakovací obrázok.
This is a must for any Harry potter fan it's really well done , beautifully illustrated and just something really special so glad I decided to buy it 🐱
I'm so lucky to be invited by The Book Depository for a Focus Group Discussion in Jakarta. Besides having a wonderful and interesting experience, Book Depository has also been so generous and gave a 500k voucher for each participant to choose one book from their website. After much contemplation, I chose this amazing pop up book of Hogwarts, taken from the movie setting by the marvelous Matthew Reinhart.
The exquisite details are unbelievable - all the small little things of each location (the castle, forbidden forest, quiditch stadium, and Hogsmeade) are incredible. And there are lots of hidden surprises, the small pop up and pull out arts, with hidden messages and interesting trivia. You just need a bit of a space to lay out the book conveniently, because overall the book takes a bit of space.
I love pop-up books and I love Harry Potter even more so this was the perfect Christmas present from my partner. I'm beyond delighted with it. It's superb. I've always been amazed, baffled and delighted by the skill which the designers and artists use with the best pop-up books and this one is the most amazing, baffling and delighting pop-up book I've seen. Each page is filled with intricate pop-ups and fold-outs with some interesting and informative text accompanying each. And the whole thing folds out into a table top panorama of Hogwarts and its environs. I can't recommend it enough.
My mother loves to buy me something Harry Potter illustrated related for most birthdays and Christmas' and this year it was these two pop-up books (which I'll be sharing this review on both). They are both nice enough, with their full section pops per page, along with all the little things everywhere. I have to admit I wish it were a little more book, and book arts, based rather than eschewing toward the movies only.
All in all, they're cute and very creatively made. I still wonder incredibly long and hard how it is people put this together in their head/computer programs so that pop-up books happen so perfectly like this every time you open the pages.
Beautifully made book. This book has so many details and little secrets! I loved the little pull ups and flaps. No wonder this book is so expensive! It's so intricate and detailed. If you know the movies and the books as well as me, you will find the written text in the book redundant. If you have never seen the movies or read the books, then this book will spoil a LOT for you. Only reason I put 4 stars instead of 5 is because I don't love it enough to own it. Fantastic book though.
An important addition to my pop-up collection. I'm not the biggest Harry Potter fan, but this pop-up book is something different. I was intrigued by it when I picked it up and flipped through the pages, but it wasn't until I realized that I could be completely unfolded and become a board that I was actually impressed.
I'm not the biggest fan of the illustrations. I've seen more beautiful pop-up books by Reinhart, but it definitely deserves a place in my bookcase for originality.
It is just so pretty. Before I receive this, I thought my favourite would be the castle. But afterwards, I love the quidditch pitch and the marauders map. The marauders map move just like the movies animation!! (For a thorough flip through, check out the video by "best pop up books" on youtube. I watched their video, then captivated to buy it.) Worth the money (I bought it for 22 pounds on amazon, plus extra for shipping)
Matthew Reinhart has again created a magnificent pop-up book with Harry Potter: A Pop-Up Guide to Hogwarts. Not only do the individual pages create some breath-taking images and paper engineering, the book itself opens up and lays flat to depict the entire grounds surrounding Hogwards school. As far as pop-up books go, this one is truly magical.
The craftsmanship is exquisite, especially the forbidden forest section. While I can see this book being welcome to any Potterhead’s collection, the price is just not worth it for me. The only reason I am able to say I read this book is because my sister gave it to me as a birthday present. I also wish they hadn’t included Aragog.
Hands down, this is the most fun book I own. I don't have any other pop up books to compare this to, but this is super well done. The illustrations are beautiful and there are a lot of little hidden pop-ups to find. Great addition to my collection. 10/10.
For all the Harry Potter fans in your life, this pop-up book doesn't have much to read, but the intricate detail of each scene is incredible. Explore Hogwarts Castle, the Hogwarts Classrooms, the Quidditch Pitch, Hogsmeade Village, and the Forbidden Forest. Lots of fun for all ages to look through.
Amazing, elaborate pop-ups of buildings and scenery from the movie series. A few smaller engineered paper features with moving parts are also included. Overall a solid collectable for HP fans and pop-up enthusiasts.
