No one has ever said no to Ash Harris—until Constance Shaw. But when the grudge he holds against her finally comes to a head, Constance must run to save her life … … right into the arms of Corey Campbell.
The only other occupant of the mountain, Corey’s perfectly happy with the life he leads. Sure, it’s a little lonely, but he does what he wants when he wants.
When Constance shows up on his doorstep, the gentle giant with the big heart finds it hard to say no to her.
Turns out she’s exactly what he needs.
The fourth book in the Copper Creek series is Corey’s story and continues the saga that began in Coming Home.
Wendy Smith published as Ariadne Wayne for three years before deciding she didn’t want to be someone else all the time. She’s an Apple Books and Nook bestselling author, whose book In the End, written as Ariadne Wayne, was named one of Apple’s best books of 2017. All her stories come with a quirky sense of humour, and she cries over everything.
I’ve been a fan of the Copper Creek series since the first book was released and always waiting (impatiently!) for each book after. Corey was always the elusive Campbell brother. He seemed cold and distant in the other books. But boy is he anything but! He is not what I expected at all! This is truly a case of love at first sight. And at first I thought it was a case of love for convenience, that doesn’t end up being the case at all. Constance, although sheltered her whole life, is a well read woman. So although she does experience a lot of things for the first time in the book and there are scenes that remind you of her upbringing, she’s not completely ignorant. Something else I like about this series is, unlike other series, the other characters from previous books don’t just make appearances but you actually get chapters about them and more insight into what their lives are like now. So in this book we get updates about Owen and Ginny and their continuing struggles. Of course Drew and Hailey and Adam and Lily appear often. Now the question is, what’s happening with the youngest Campbell brother, James. I highly recommend this book but make sure you read the whole Copper Creek series!
Hunter's Mark by Wendy Smith is book four in the Copper Creek series. This is the story of Constance and Corey. I have read the previous book but feel you can make this a standalone book if you choose to do so. This book does have more and longer times with the secondary characters so that added to the joy. Corey lives alone and somewhat isolated but has family close by that he visits. His future sister in law was someone he has always cared for and loved more that he should. But now she is marrying his brother and Corey is trying to come to grips with that. Constance and her family have lived in a compound that boarders on an a cult (i thought) there her friend has taken over as head of the group. Instead of being a good thing he has gone off the deep end and now has plans to marry her off to a mean old man. Constance escapes and ends up meeting Corey. Both are needing each other and it turns to more than they thought. Good Read!
This is the 4th book in the Copper Creek series and I just knew that Corey's story was going to be interesting. the big brother of the clan has been somewhat of a mystery so far. We got glimpses but he was very private and aloof during the rest of the stories.
This series is a family saga and as such, we get chapters devoted tot he rest of the family. time moves forward in each book so you will want to read them in order. Some of the best parts of this book were when all the brother's and their families were together.
Constance has lead a sheltered life on the mountain as part of the commune settlement. She thought she was happy with that life until she was being forced to do something she did not want. Her friends and family help her escape and she runs right into Corey. The two of them develop trust and then friendship. All their time together eventually leads to intimacy. I liked them together. Very supportive and loving toward each other. I just felt that Con was a bit too worldly given the lifestyle she was brought up in. There was no real explanation about how she came to be that way. I wondered why she didn't question the outside world more.
Regardless of that, this story was sweet with just a tiny bit angsty moments. Great addition to the series. Only one brother left and I think he has more secrets than Corey if that can be believed. Looking forward to it!

Hunter's Mark by Wendy Smith is the 4th book in the Copper Creek series. This is the story of Constance and Corey. I really loved getting into these main characters because they came off as believable and relatable. This is a story that I found myself instantly immersed in and totally loving. Corey lives alone and is somewhat isolated from everyone but he has family close by that he visits and can count on. His future sister in law Lily is someone he deeply cares for and has a bond with; they are preparing for her marriage to his brother Adam. Corey finds it hard to release his deeper feelings for her and in the midst of this all happening, Constance lands in his life like a light from out of the darkness. Corey didn’t ever believe in love at first sight but with Constance, he really fell hard and totally in love with her. Constance comes from the compound that boarders on an a cult which is next door to Adam’s land. She was sheltered while growing up but is very educated. She is sweet, kind and innocent. Adam is broody, quiet and protective. These two come from different backgrounds but yet they have this instant chemistry that lights up as soon as they meet. Constance escaped from the group because their leader has pretty much gone off the deep end and tried to give Constance away without any sayso from Constance, and the person he picked is pure evil. Constance made her way out and lands with Corey who offers her safe passage on his lands and in his home. He offers to protect her and keep her safe from harm. The story really picks up as it focuses on Corey and Constance budding relationship. Also in this book we get to see how the other brothers and their beloveds are doing. We get to see how those couples are doing currently and what problems they may be facing. I fell totally in love with Corey and Constance. There was intrigue, suspense, drama, passion, action and love. I loved the twists and turns this book has; as for who is left out of the brothers- that leaves James and there seems to be a huge secret as to who his “one” is. I cant wait for the final book in the Copper Creek series.
My Rating: 4.8 stars ***** “I received an advanced copy of this book from the author at no cost to me."
With this series Corey had been a brother we never really saw much of, didn't know that much either, other than he was a recluse. So it was nice to see him more than a wild mountain man. When Constance had to run she couldn't have found a better place to run than Corey. I liked that he treated her with kids gloves, that he let her know she was safe and he did what he could to get her clean and warm.
As the two of the got to know each other their attraction bloomed. It was telling that this didn't scare Constance despite where she grew up. I liked that both went for things and wanted more. Better was how Constance didn't see where Corey lived as a bad thing, she liked the solitude.
Of course there was drama at the end with Ash. I was glad with how all of that went down so that these two could find their HEA.
One a side note it was great to see how things worked out for Owen and Ginny, those two deserved more. Also great was the wedding between Lily and Adam, it was a long time coming!
I think my expectations were too high for this book. I was excited to read Corey’s book because compared to his brothers, he seemed to have a good head on his shoulders. He was down to Earth and went about his business. I’m slightly disappointed to find out he loved Lily for so many years, it kind of killed their relationship dynamic for me. Constance enters the picture, inexperienced, witty and scared and he welcomes her into his home. Their relationship later escalated to romance and I loved seeing Constance come out of her shell. I guess the reason for my poor rating is, after witnessing what happened to Lily and Adam, Corey seemed too quick to accept the possibility of Constance leaving him. Sure he had his doubts, but he did not fight for her the way she fought for herself. He literally leaves her with her father and “fiancé” whom she’s repeatedly said she didn’t want. She had to show up for him to finally fight. It was a disappointing development of their relationship and just left me feeling annoyed.
Wendy Smith is a new-to-me author and Hunter's Mark was the first book of hers I read. The books should be read in the order the series was written so you don't get any spoilers.
Other than that, I have to say that I loved this story and will be getting the rest of the books so I can get the whole stories of the rest of the brothers. The story is cohesive and beautifully written, even though the author uses some words that are from originally from New Zeland, they are not that many and they are easy to understand because of the definitions are at the beginning of the book.
Is a different story, than the usual romance story we get on a daily basis. Corey is your usual loner that has decided to live by himself in the mountains of his hometown. Constance lives with her parents in a closed community really close to Corey's house. When the leader of the community finally makes a decision about who is to marry Constance, she decided that she won't accepted and decides to run away. She is found by Corey and he gives her a place to stay, and everything changes once they found each other. As she stays at Corey's house Constance starts learning all the things she has missed by living where she lived. Will they be able to survive their differences? Will they be able to look past their differences and finally find their own happiness?
I came to this series late…I mean darn it there are three books before this and I have missed them all!! I think I would like to see a little of where all the characters have come from so far, so I have the others now and will start at the beginning soon but as for this the 4th book, well I can’t say that it didn’t read well as a standalone because I couldn’t but it down, so it definitely had something going for it and if truth be known it had rather a lot happening that endeared it to me. I liked Constance, she was willing to stand her ground, to be her own woman and believe me she needed that, because Corey was far from a straight forward type of guy. Happy in his own company he lived a solitary life, only visiting his family when he felt the need, the marriage of his brother to a woman that he has held dear for a long time, it takes its toll on him and he isn’t exactly coping well with the situation but that pales into insignificance when he meets Constance because her situation left my jaw slack! They were great for each other, they each needed what the other had to offer, they just had to find that out in their own way and in their own time…but could they? I liked this, it was well written, super engaging and with characters that totally captured my imagination
Constance has done something no one else ever has...said no to Ash Shaw. As the consequences of that come to the forefront, she runs, knowing if she wants to survive it's her only choice. A mountain seems far enough away, right? Who'd think to look for her there? When she meets Corey, she quickly realizes she isn't the only one there.
Corey loves the solitude the mountain affords him. Yes, it can be lonely, but having the freedom to do as he pleases evens that out most times. When he meets Constance, he can't help but want to help her. His big heart making it impossible to refuse.
Corey quickly discovers Constance is exactly what he needed to make his life complete, but first he needs to ensure she survives long enough for them to begin their future. As these two spend time together due to close proximity warranted by her circumstances, the connection they immediately felt for one another steadily grows. And they must decide if it's worth exploring.
Can Constance escape what Ash has planned for her? Will Corey keep her safe and hidden from the danger following her? Is a HEA possible? Or will Constance forever be hunted?

Hunter’s Mark is book 4 in the series, and the fourth brother is Corey; the mountain man of the family. Living a solitary life up the mountain, spending his time alone or out hunting pests for customers, Corey always thought he’d end up growing old alone. That all changed though when Constance made her escape from the “community” next door. When Ash Harris; the leader who came after Corey’s sister-in-law, Hayley, back in Book 2 decided to make Constance marry an old, vicious, evil man, she and her family decide she has to run and get away from Ash and his sinister ways. When she finds her way to Corey, he immediately offers her refuge and protection and eventually things start to develop between the two. I don’t really want to say anything else as it might spoil it.
I’m enjoying this series and I like how the author shows us what some of the previous couples are up to. This book lets us see Lily and Adam’s wedding and Owen and Ginny’s fertility issues. Just one brother left now, James, and I have a feeling I know what he is being so secretive about with who he has met. I’m looking forward to that one, but for now I give Hunter’s Mark 4 stars.
Constance and Corey are finding the peace and salvation they have been looking for in each other. Constance can attest better than anyone that what was once a small peaceful simply community has been corrupted by Ash and his nefarious ideals. After his edict about her future, Constance knows she is no longer safe in the hamlet and makes her escape from its clutches. She never imagined she would fall headlong into her future. Corey provides her safe harbour and eases her soul with his protective and gentle personality. Corey has been trying to bring down the Cult who's community borders his home. After what they did to Hayley and what he is certain is even more countless atrocities he wants to see Ash in handcuffs. When a frightened but strong willed angel appears to him and clearly needs his assistance, he is helpless to deny her. She has this undeniable pull that trumps everything in him. He'll do anything to keep her safe and is going to help her free herself once and for all from the chains of her past.
*Also we get a lovely look at all the others we have come to know and love in Coppers Creek*
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book
I am so in love with this hook! This was my first book by Wendy Smith and the fourth book in her Copper Creek Series and while Hunter's Mark can be read as a standalone read the other three books. I since have because you get little pieces of them throughout this book and I couldn't wait for there stories also. Corey Campbell been in love with his brothers fiancee for years he knows there ment to be but you can't help who you love. Corey is a huge mountain of a man but a softy through and through. Constance Shaw lived in a community with other members but pretty basically it's a cult it wasn't always a horrible place but since Ash Harris took over it is. She loved Ash for years but he came to her at 13 when she was a child and she refused to marry him ever since then he has been a different mean person. He tell her she will sleep with a friend of his then marry an abusive member then next day. She know this man will kill her so she runs right into Corey's property. The way Corey was with her was amazing he was her safe place. Suspense filled and funny and swoon worthy a definite awesome read.
This is book 4 of the series and I highly recommend you start with book 1 as they all follow on from each other and we see the brothers one by one fall in love. Corey is the oldest of the Campbell brothers and is the resident loner living on the mountain, until one day he comes across Constance (Con) who has escaped from Ash and his cult after bringing told of an arranged marriage. Their relationship grows and they can’t help falling in love but while Corey is away hunting Con disappears and he believes she has gone back but little does Corey know it was never her choice. What I find astonishing is the police are on Corey’s land to surveil the “Cult” but the undercover cops are no further forward and one is missing and they didn’t see Con leave the compound that first night or Corey sneaking in when Con goes back, pretty useless cops to be fair. I’m still struggling with the previous brother have a pov for a few chapters as I have just never seen that before. Will start on James tomorrow as it’s currently 02:15 as I couldn’t put this one down until I finished it.
I have loved this series so much, and Corey’s story was fabulous as I expected! I’ve always thought the tall, bearded Corey would be romantic and sexy given his own story and Wendy Smith did not disappoint as he comes to the rescue of Constance, who recently escaped the strange compound near Corey’s home.
I loved that Constance was brave enough to leave and I especially enjoyed her childlike wonder of being safe in Corey’s home, unlimited books to read, and so on. After a while, I started to wonder about her character because of her desire to stay inside at the house all of the time rather than finally experiencing the world, however, she luckily started to blossom.
Hunter’s Mark is the perfect blend of romance and suspense, but I absolutely loved the ongoing theme of love and family. All of the previous characters are also in this installment with some big changes for Owen and Ginny! This novel was funny, sweet, sexy, and kept me on the edge of my seat. As I said before, I have loved this series and Hunter’s Mark was amazing!
Hunter's Mark is a mushy, sweet story with a little suspense thrown in. Constance lives in a commune and after her childhood friend becomes the leader and goes crazy she's decided to escape. On the other side of the fence she meets Corey. Corey is a protective darling whom I fell in love with almost instantly. Constance may be naive to the world around her but she's feisty and full of sass. I loved her spirit and drive. Both fall in love in an unlikely situation.
I fell in love quickly with all the characters. Corey has a huge group of family and they were all so welcoming to Constance. The banter between characters were sweet and sassy. The writing kept me fully entertained. It's easy to get lost in all of these characters with their struggles and achievements.
I will add, this may be more enjoyable if you read the others in the series first. I did not but it didn't take me long to figure out who was who.
I'm so in love with Copper Creek series. Corey is my favourite so far :) I love alpha male!
Corey is that guy who doesn't wanna to be bothered but if you need anything from him, he will be there for you.
Constance lives in that "community" next door and Ash forces her to do something she doesn't want to do. She found her way out and into the arms of the gentle giant Corey.
Corey & Con love story is beautifully written and I couldn't stop reading until the end.
Hunters Mark is the 4th book in the Cooper Creek series where we get the story of Corey. He likes his solitude up on the mountain but still is very close to his family. Constance is a young woman that runs away from the “community” that is right next to Corey’s home. As luck would have it Corey was outside that rainy night and quickly kept her hidden. Great story full of emotion and passion and loss. This book has it all! Love, death, heartache, infertility, kidnapping to name only some of it.
Hunter's Mark is book 4 of Wendy Smith's Copper Creek series and is Corey's book.
Corey is the solitary, mountain living, pest hunter of the family. His property borders that of Ash Harris and his "community". Constance is a "community" member, born and bred, who decides to make a run for it after Ash makes a big decision for her. Her running leads her straight to Corey.
As with previous books in the series, we get to catch up with Corey's other brothers and see how their lives are going.
I absolutely loved this book, as I love all of Wendy's books.
Corey and Constance’s story is something else, Corey is loner who live next to a cult compound and Constance who is a member is being forced to marry a much older man. She runs away and ends up at Corey’s cabin. He vows to keep her safe and they fall in love. While he is away she is kidnapped by Ash and some of his men. After the Sheriff and his men along with Corey confront Ash and eventually kill him, She is safe and her and Corey are together. This story is worth reading!!
I love this book and I fact the whole Campbell brother series. Constance escapes from a dangerous living situation with just the clothes on her back and stumbles on Corey. Corey is a taciturn man on the mountain
They fall in love and just when you think everything is sorted Corey’s world falls apart.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I could not put this book down let alone the last 3. I’m onto the last one now and will let you know how it goes. Ash kind of freaked me out a little in this book and I’m glad Con found her way out and found Corey along with it. These books are different to others I have read and I’m glad I came across this author.
I was so engrossed in Corey and Constance's story that I occasionally forgot about the rest of the family when it came to their chapters. Without even knowing anything about James'book, not even the title, I had guessed right at the very first hint of "It's complicated" what was going on. This should be interesting.
Hunter’s Mark wasn’t my favourite book in the series just because I preferred the other story lines (esp Lily and Adam!) but that’s not to say that this book isn’t beautifully written and full of emotion!
This series is amazing another book hitting hard real issues but doing it in a relatable way. We get to catch up with all the other characters from the previous books and get a glimpse into what is to come . Can't wait for more!
Really enjoying this series, love that all the characters interact with each book BUT! How could you leave us hanging like that! 😖😁 especially need to know how Ginny is? we need the next book ASAP! 😁😁😁
Love these Campbell brothers too bad this is fiction! Waiting to purchase book five on the youngest brother Jamie, really like this author's books although I do have some trouble with this series and the slang words from down under.
My favourite of this serries. Mountain man Corey has a run in with Constance. After escsping from the closed community can Constance make it. Still following the other family members this book follows Corey.
Constance lives at the commune next door to Corey and she's led a simple but naive life
I would recommend this book and series for mature readers that enjoy reading stories that are a combination of funny, steamy, suspenseful, and romantic.
I'm glad Corey finally met his HEA in this series. Constance was perfect for him. Two people that didn't need the town to live in and we're content to live in the hinterland.
