My boy gets into the "older so is it okay? But not old enough" field.
With it ending on a time skip of last volume we have our two main characters trying to sort their feelings. Satoko trying to finally move on but she isn't having the best time in life. Seems to be lost some. But then she sees Mashuu again grown up and now is trying to decide what to do. Talk to him? Ignore him? What is there to say.
I appreciate the series never really crossing the line. You feel a unease, but you can tell they both care about each other. Satoko probably more as a sister or mother-type but Mashuu might be falling for her. You never really know but it feels like it. This is mostly focused on Mashuu is the second half and his will to try and improve himself and be more forward. Satoko gets the first half and by the end it feels like might missed something major we'll get the next volume.
Once more, this weird slice of life continues to impress and be interesting. I trust in the author to give us a great finale.
would have been interesting to see the cycle continue like in “tsuiraku jk to haijin kyoushi” by sora. so the story becomes more than just about these two’s relationship. but no, and no one can stay firm to their resolve and keep their distance. god, can we just find out the extent to satoko’s feelings so i can finally judge the morality and legality?
the reunion felt vry bittersweet. sakoto knows she cannot contact him bc it’s not appropriate nor does she have his fathers consent. it doesn’t matter whether her intentions are good or not,,. yet mashuu wants to see her anyway. it was interesting how when she told him the reasoning on why she couldn’t meet, he brought up the topic of “normalcy”. “it’s okay bc it’s normal for us right?” that’s not entirely unsound—-normal is different for everybody. in a way, it’s normal for “normal” to vary for each person. (but the term “normal” also doesn’t hold any moral or legal obligations to it, so something “normal” may also be something questionable.)
i also liked seeing the story from mashuu’s perspective. he misses her sure (seeing him anxiously wait for her calls and texts and the excitement he has when she talks to him 🥲), but rlly, i think he’s getting along fine without her. his family situation seems to have improved as well, which im happy for. since two yrs have passed, it’s true that he’s gotten more knowledgeable and mature (relatively speaking that is). but, he’s still 14–still at a young and impressionable age., his pining is natural for someone who lost that familial love they were given. (it would also help if satoko wasn’t so wishy-washy in her own feelings and decisions regarding him.) the struggles are shown quite nicely here.
I like that we’re getting Mashuu’s perspective now. Satoko kind of annoyed me this volume. I know why she’s acting this way but also she’s acting a bit too much like a whiny child that it’s a bit irritating. I know she’s trying to keep her distance but also can’t resist reaching out. I’m just hoping this doesn’t drag out too much and she gets it together soon.
Seriously though, this was a really good volume. It's hard to watch in certain parts because I hate seeing Satoko and Mashuu in pain, but I also love this series for that pain. While I'm hoping this is not going to develop into a romantic relationship between the two (though I'm pretty sure it's going to) if it did this would be one of the few romance manga where the stakes are realistically high. Sometimes in romance manga the main characters are presented with some "obstacle" that could be damaging in some way, but often the stakes really aren't that high. Yes, you may lose a friend or a lover, but they shouldn't have to because either solution is easy or the relationship ending wouldn't be life-altering. In Mashuu and Satoko's case, if they did get romantically involved and someone found out, Mashuu's future would be ruined and Satoko could lose her job, as well as be unable to find work elsewhere. I appreciate that the mangaka is willing to showcase the negative consequences of this possible relationship, good on you! It's even more painful considering of the two of them are clearly happier together but their circumstances could force that happiness to come at horrible price.
On a shorter note, the artwork is as spot-on as ever. The mangaka is very talented at portraying an emotional scene with shadows enhanced by light in the right places or the beautifully drawn faces of the characters. This series is worth it for the art alone, I love it!
This was a great volume that gave me just enough to satisfy until the next volume. I truly adore this series and look forward to the next installment.
I was so glad to see his point of view. Such an honest grown up boy. His situation is different, his experience not very common. I can’t wait for the next volume. I want to see where this goes. They’re twin flames-it’s one of those fated things and because of that I feel like they’d be complete together. It looks like they might show time pass by. So I wonder if they’ll be together later in the future or if it’ll get romantic before his of age. I hope that doesn’t happen-mostly because he needs to be capable of establishing his life. So it’d be better to wait. I’m gonna enjoy the heart wrenching process. It’s gonna kill me over and over again, but sometimes that’s what makes a good story.
The book is well-written; the art is fine, but I just don't enjoy it. The boy's life is not as awful as the description suggests. The woman seems to relish pain. I just don't like the story!
