Shea Ellis doesn't have time for love -- all the Boston Brawlers captain wants is one last shot at the Cup before he retires. Besides, after his ex-wife did him dirty, the single dad isn't sure if he could love again. Hell, he'd be happy just to find a decent nanny to help with his three kids.
Sure, the latest nanny to get a try-out, Brynn, is a babe. But the hottest thing about the bright-eyed twenty-something isn't her sizzling figure -- it's how fast his kids fall for her.
For a grizzled veteran, it's a pointless crush on a girl he knows he shouldn't have. And with the Brawlers marching towards the playoffs, the last thing he needs is a distraction. So why can't he get the cutie out of his mind?
Can the hockey legend keep his eyes on the ice ... and his hands off the nanny?
Brynn Conley never expected to nanny for her childhood crush. The pretty-boy rookie whose poster she painted with lipstick kisses all those years ago? He's a rugged man now. A salt-and-pepper single dad struggling with a troubled teen daughter and two wild twin boys.
The hockey star has aged like fine wine, but Brynn's not looking for love -- she's got a job to do. And to Shea's delight, she's great with kids. It's a cruel irony for a young woman who can't have any children of her own.
Brynn knows she shouldn't hook up with the athlete -- the last thing she'd ever want to do is confuse the kids. But when her hunky boss wraps his big hockey hands around her waist, will she insist that their relationship remain professional? Or will it be the start of an ice-melting romance? Crush is a 70,000 word single dad hockey romance! This stand-alone novel is the third and final book in the Boston Brawlers series. No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA always guaranteed!
I started this series because Troy Duran narrates. I continued it because there's a Russian hockey player and I wanted to get to his story... well my dumb ass didn't check to make sure he got a story, and the series actually ends here. This book has everything I hate (except Troy Duran) and I wouldn't have listened to it had I paid attention.
Shea (37, hockey player) needs a new nanny to wrangle his three brats. Brynn (twenty-something, nanny) answers the ad for a new nanny position. There's instant attraction between Shea and Brynn. There's the normal, completely unrealist, corny nonsense that happens in these types of fics. You know of course when Brynn shows up, all the kids just love her. Especially the teen daughter who immediately becomes her BFF. 🙄 🙄 The author apparently has no experience with teens. So, they do that song and dance where I like you but you're my nanny and we can't mess this up. Yada yada yada.
The fic is 1000% predictable. You know I hate kids in books and this one is a great example of why. You know what else I hate about these books?? Waiting until the 85% mark before they have sex. This one even had the quintessential "interruption", except the author let us get to the point right before penetration and then interrupted the couple. Seriously, WTF.
In the end, I hated the book. That said - had I done my job and read the description first, I never would have read/listened to it. So, I can't fault the author for me not liking it. Instead, I looked at the actual writing, and I still thought that sucked. The lines used were sooooo corny. So much cheese in this that it left me constipated.
I'm giving it a 3 because, like I said, it's partially my fault.
I liked everything about this book but the sex scenes, which I eventually began simply skimming. The raunchy and unromantic way they are written is, to me anyway, jarringly out of place with the tone of the rest of the book, which has the warm and cozy feel of a classic Harlequin American, family-centered, short-contemporary romance. I particularly enjoyed that the heroine builds a deep and true friendship with the hero before they have sex, making it what one might call a "slow-burn" romance. As the hero's nanny, she becomes a beloved mother figure to his children, who are twin 10-year-old boys and a 14-year-old girl.
Notably, though there is a potential, classic, Evil Other Woman in the form of the hero's shrewish ex-wife, I was happy to note that the author does not rely on the cliche of using this character as a major source of romantic conflict. Instead, the ex-wife is a crucial antagonist to the hero's daughter within a significant subplot involving the troubled teenage girl's fraught relationship with her narcissistic mother.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋💋💋 Oh this guy Shea , I’ve been sold on him from book one. Wasn’t completely convinced that Brynn didn’t still need therapy but I’ll take it.
The kids I adore. Want to run over the ex though lol 😂 Brilliant end to this series.
book three can be read as stand alone. Cute story of a single dad at the end of his hockey carreer. He has his hands full with a 14 yr old daughter and 10 yr old twin boys. He is in desperate need of a nanny. when he finds Brynn is a little hesitant. His past nannies were older. Brynn is young and hot. The attraction gets the best of them. However, there are kids to keep in mind and they need to keep things under wraps. The story has sexual tension, a hot hockey dad, cute kids and good sports references. Quick read with believable characters.
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
This is the second book that i have read by this author and it is another brilliantly written book.
Shea Ellis is a veteran Hockey player and he is fast approaching his chosen retirement at the age of 37. A string of failed nannies has him putting out a notice again, only to get Brynn as the only suitable applicant.
Both characters have been hurt in the past and they have an instant attraction to each other that keeps getting hotter and hotter until they both combust. The chemistry is really hot and they both try to keep in in as they both feel it would be unprofessional to have a relationship whilst Brynn works for Shea. However, both of them struggle hard with this notion.
We get mentions of players and characters from the first two books and we also get a mention of who may well get a book next in the series. There is also an epilogue that sure up Shea and Brynn's relationship after everything happens between them, leaving us all in a good place and the characters really happy together.
This story was so damned sweet! When I was kindly given a copy in exchange for my voluntary review (via Hidden Gems Books) I was unaware that this was book three in the Boston Brawlers Series. Once I got a few chapters in, I was able to figure out that there was some story that came before this, but it had no impact on my enjoyment or understanding of this tale. I'm a sucker for a good sports romance. Add in the single parent aspect and the taboo nanny trope and this was already looking good. But there were a couple twists I didn't see coming that made the story deeper and sweeter. I loved Brynne and Shea, individually as well as together. The tension between them was just yummy. I'll be going back to read the previous two books for sure.
I’ve read sports books recently where Soccer was the sport, where Rugby was the sport and now here hockey is the pro sport. This is the third book in the series and I enjoyed it just as much as the first 2.
Shea Ellis is the captain of the Boston Brawlers hockey team. He is at the end of his career and wants his team to win the Stanley Cup before he retires. Things are looking good for the team but not so good on the home front. He’s a divorced father with primary custody of his almost teenage daughter and twin sons and he’s having troubles finding a good nanny. He’s just let his last one go and needs a new one. He interviews Brynn, a young woman who loves being a nanny but due to circumstances, need to find a new family. When Shea first spots her, he figures he can’t hire her. She’s younger than he thought and she gets his rusty motor running if you know what I mean, wink wink. Shea notices the changes. His daughter is less volatile and his sons start eating more and doing their homework, all under the watch of Brynn. But best of all to Shea is his children start taking an interest in his career
They both have suffered pain and rejection in their past. Shea’s wife cheated on him and Brynn’s marriage didn’t work out due to ongoing health issues she has. Shea thinks he’s old before his time but Brynn makes him feel young again. They both try to fight their growing attraction to each other considering their situation but it’s not long before they can’t any longer.
There is so much to love about this story. Shea is such a good guy. He wants so bad to be a good father and he’s a real team leader. He’s been a secondary character in previous books in this series, but he really shines in this book. And while Bryn is over 10 years younger than Shea (no wonder she makes him feel young again) she has a maturity that does put them on equal measures. This is a fine story that I’m most happy to recommend.
The way the author wrote these sex scenes was flipping hysterical in her absurd word choice, but nothing earned a bigger laugh than when she described the hero’s tongue as his “wet muscle” or when she called his jizz “the sex fluids.” 😳😂
Please tell me that this author is a Boomer because there can be no other explanation.
Low drama and sweet characters in this book from new-to-me author June Winters. It made me smile and I liked that the heroine didn't settle for less than she deserves and stood her ground. I'll definitely read more books from this author.
I started this audiobook and was like “wow, I Actually think I found my next favorite read, what could possibly go wrong?”
Those words shouldn’t have left my mouth because
Every Fucking Thing Went Wrong
Before I start this review it might contain spoilers. The main character, right off the bat you learn she’s infertile but the author kept it hidden through out the book as to how she found out but we learn she is. I just knew the ending was coming though.
The book was going so well then all of a sudden, a flash forward of two months later.
The author just wanted to get to the good stuff I guess, but please, I didn’t like that. In fact I think it annoyed me. Because she did it twice.
First off I think a lot of the characters fell flat, hence the sons, I literally never wanted to fight a fourteen year old this much. Chloe got on my nerves.
This is a single dad romance but lord the kids didn’t play a huge part only Chloe which was annoying.
Next: the plot. What the fuck was it? The writing? Bad.
Aint no way she’s 27 and acts like this AND AINT NO WAY HES 38?!! This man has a job, ex wife and three kids at home and actually acts like this.
I’m dead.
Some quotes I literally went wtf at
“You're so good at sucking cock,” I gasped breathlessly.”
Also this book as the worst sex ever. The smut is so bad.
Him taking a pic of his….. thing after stealing her panties? What the fuck😭😭😐
“Shea,” I reprimanded him. “No. Do not.” “Sorry,” he gulped. “Shit. Sorry. I don't know what got into me just there.” “Just go.”
This scene happens when they just did something and he’s staring at her and kisses her hard. Bro. She pushed him off and was like “this can never happen.” This was embarrassing to read. For me and for the stink bug in my room.
Spoilers:
Bro the ex wife drama. What a hoe. There I said it. Blaming their daughter for things you did. Fuck u.
Anyways moral of this story and everything else. The plot and climax wtf. Because it was building up for the author hiding about her and being infertile and then ended up being pregnant. I don’t like that. And I’m sure people probably expressed this a lot but it’s not that easy. And some people don’t get this in real life. It might be a TW for some people which should be disclosed for people going into this book. I’m sorry at wording this bad. It’s just something that always happens in books. Especially with women who deal with not being able to have kids.
The whole Chloe and ex wife thing was so dumb. Cause honestly it was just building up too from the fact his wife cheated like bitch? You could have just said it from the start.
Her having a childhood crush on him is literally nothing. And he was gonna turn it in to a big deal.
His teammates fell flat too. I haven’t read the rest of the series neither am I going to, but it’s all flat. The only thing these people said or did was cheer him on and YOU DONT EVEN KNOW WHO THE FUCK SAID WHAT.
There’s literally two teammates the rest fell flat.
Would I recommend? No. Idek if I’m gonna read more by this author.
Sports romance, single dad, nanny, hockey romance and that’s it.
I picked this up on a whim to listen to in the background and I enjoyed it. It follows Shae who is a single dad but a hockey captain for the Brooklyn Brawlers, he is 37 with three kids. Then we have Brynn who is 27 and loves being a nanny and has dreams to potentially have kids one’s day.
This was a quick easy audiobook to listen to. I liked Shae and Brynn together. I also loved how his kids warmed up to Brynn, especially his daughter as she doesn’t have the greatest outlet in a mother. Brynn bought them together more as a family and just made my heart melt.
Their connection didn’t come across as soul mate energy for me and also the in-between where they decided it wasn’t a good idea to keep going or continue relations was too long for me wish there were more spicy scenes because that man could work!

I received an ARC with no obligation to leave my honest review. This is the first book that I have read by this author and while it seems to be the 3rd book in a series I found it easy to follow along with. There was some good character development and it was told in the first person POV which isn't my usual preference but it was ok. I've only just started reading more sport romances and I liked how much Hockey was in this one, you get a bit of a look at some games and how all the team members interact and I feel it gave Shea much more depth to his character. His kids were great with the usual amount of teenage angst and I like that his ex didn't cause OTT drama. Brynn had a bit of a rough youth with body issues that lead to medical issues and I felt the author handled them quite well, didn't just brush them under the rug or give her quick fixes. Brynn and Shea had great chemistry together and some quite steamy scenes. I did find it a little off putting though when Brynn referred to Shea as "the athlete", "the Captain" or "the Hockey player" instead of using his name...ummmm why?!?!? Two quick examples....."the captain tossed me into the sofa's cushions" and "the hockey player grabbed hold of my thong and yanked it down my legs". You mean Shea!! I just found it odd and wasn't a fan of it sorry. If you like sports romances then I definitely think it ticks all those boxes. Overall an ok read.
Disclaimer, I started this series at this book, I haven’t read 1 and 2 and I don’t currently intend to.
I didn’t really like this book. The MCs were what made the story feel off to me, plus the flow of the book, scene-to-scene. The male MC is super protective of his privacy when he hires a new nanny and apparently doesn’t even advertise anything about the kids, what his full name is, or why he needs a nanny (completely suspicious and I’m frankly shocked the fem MC even asked for an interview) but then turns around later in the book and accuses the fem MC of being a fortune hunter because she had a poster of him on her wall as a teenager. Like, what? How in the world would she have known who you were before meeting you in person? And she didn’t talk you into hiring her, you did that all on your own after she handled your rabid fan for you. Double and, she was resistant to starting a relationship with you because she was worried about how it would look to the kids. If she’s after your money it’s your fucking fault for bringing her in so close! Craziness.
I also don’t get why it was said the male MC was a great father. There’s maybe 1 or 2 full scenes with him actually spending time with his kids and very very little passing mention of them hanging out in the background of the story. From what little we see in the beginning, he doesn’t really parent his kids either. There’s no repercussions for his daughter having a boy over late, even if the nanny okayed it. And the boys regularly didn’t do their homework because the nanny let them practice hockey till they dropped starting right after school. The daughter also shows blatant signs of disrespect and lack of decorum and he doesn’t even attempt to address them with her (I’m not saying corporal punishment, but there’s plenty of ways to try to nip that behavior in the bud). The male MC was a father, yes, and he made sure his kids were provided for, but he didn’t give that parental oversight or quality time that kids need. Instead, he spent all his time on hockey or with the fem MC. Good fathers are okay, always glad for them, but if you say a man is a great father, he needs to meet a set of higher expectations and this man fell very short.
I also felt some kind of way about the MCs getting together in the first place while the fem MC was the kid’s nanny. Normally, I’m all over power play romances like this, but it felt a little icky because the fem MC was legitimately trying to care for his kids and he was so gung ho about jumping into a relationship that could have imploded at any point and hurt his kids. His daughter was already suffering from the divorce (he also didn’t check on the twins to see if they were okay once that came out), why put her great and supportive relationship with the nanny in jeopardy? This is what told me he was just a good father, because the risk was greater than the reward, especially so early into this nanny relationship. Maybe if she had been with them for years like the other family, but she was very new, and the kids had had so many nanny’s already. Plus she told him she thought they should ease off and if I remember right, he got butt hurt and took their professional relationship to the extreme (lord save me from immature men). And towards the end, it was the fem MC who told him she shouldn’t be their nanny anymore and he should try hiring a new one.
The male MC just came off as really selfish and very focused on what would make his life better (beyond providing basic care and material comfort for the kids), he never engaged with how the entire situation was making the fem MC feel. I also didn’t get his borderline obsessive attraction to her. Yeah, she was beautiful, AND? He encountered many beautiful women. What was so enrapturing about her that he just had to throw caution to the wind? Honestly, now that I think about it, they didn’t really talk much before he tried ensnaring her in his web, and I don’t remember them talking too much after. It was a lot of brushed over bonding time but I don’t think we ever really get to see his personality, just his qualities like his solid work ethic and reservedness. The fem MC didn’t have much of a personality either, but we did get to see a little more of it through her interactions with the kids.
I guess this book just didn’t really feel like much of a romance to me. I didn’t care for the male MC and their relationship was sticky at best.

I read this book before and enjoyed it. Enough for a reread years later. Sadly, however, 21-year-old me was off-put by parts of this story.
Obviously, they fool around once and from there when the avoiding each other and how they cannot go back to the relationship before so they decide that she needs to quit so she can be the girlfriend is sound but, I don’t understand the logic of them not telling the oldest who was already on to them. Like this cheesy hidden “Affair”. It wasn’t an affair they made the most professional decision she would quit and they were together or at least planned to be together. Like these sexual scenes that are playing the forbidden love shit was ridiculous to me. Then Shea just kissing her to notify his young sons doesn’t sit well with me either. Like they are young but they are still worthy of an actual conversation and to be respected in if they approve or not.
The biggest thing for me though was the main character's infertility. I know that the reasoning is probably an honest way to get a condition like that but as someone who has another medical condition where I WILL NEVER have children and throughout the entire book that is the storyline and I love relating to the grief and longing but then the fucking endings happen and they are given a fucking miracle. TADA the chick is pregnant. Like can someone write a realistic version where the person with medical infertility doesn’t get pregnant that would be great thanks? Like she gained three wonderful children was it fucking necessary. Or adopting like Shea said when they had the big conversation. Like that could have opened other themes and conversations that could be appreciated not this fluffy miracle bullshit that hardly ever happens in the real world.
I wish the daughter's storyline of feeling guilty about the divorce was more flushed out. Like did the dad ever tell her the wife had been unfaithful before so it wasn’t about her telling him it was his wife couldn’t be trusted was the reason for the divorce? Like that would have fucking helped. I understand omitting the truth to the twins though.
I wish the awful biological mother had gotten some more tough love from everyone. Like I want those scenes and fights where the dad and daughter van together and blast her with the truth of how terrible she is.

I loved this story about Brynn Conley, a nanny and Shea Ellis, Captain of the Boston Brawlers and his daughter Chloe and twin sons Cam and Nick. Nothing like a younger woman/slightly older man and a romance with ice to pique my interest, especially when it is as well written as this book. Brynn’s employer is laid off work unexpectedly so she loses her job. The nanny that Shea has had for his willful children hasn’t been enthused about disciplining them, so they mutually agree it is time for her to move on. Brynn answers Shea’s nanny ad and meets Shea at a coffee shop but doesn’t recognize her first crush, the tall, handsome hockey player. His picture with lipstick kisses hung on her wall when she was a young teenThe two have an immediate sexual connection but resist what could to amount as a mistake if they give in to their desires. As the two encounter each other on a daily basis, they realize just how wonderful each other is and their feelings mount. I loved the interaction between She and his teammates in what he plans to be his final year playing hockey, and Brynn establishes a wonderful rapport with his children and has them behaving like a really family again. Brynn manages to heal her broken heart since her marriage ended when health issues kept her from feeling like a complete woman through the help of Shea and his attention. Will Shea be the only man since her health issues came to light to be able to accept her as she is and agree to her terms if they go forward to see where things lead if they continue to see each other. Throw in Shea’s nasty ex for good measure to stir the pot as things heat up on the sexual front between Shea and Bryan and his team starts to progress in the Stanley Cup finals. Plenty of fire and ice in and out of the hockey arena!

Recensione
Eccoci arrivati all’ultimo libro della serie!
I like a single dad book but anyone that knows me at all here on GR knows I really like hockey romances. I have no idea why since I know nothing about hockey, but the hockey players in pretty much all hockey romances sound wonderful!
Shea Ellis is a seasoned hockey player and doesn't have time for love. All this Boston Brawlers captain wants is one last shot at the Cup before he retires. After an ugly divorce from a cheating wife, this single dad doesn’t think he can love again. All he really needs is a nanny that can properly care for his 3 kids and make sure they are following the rules.
Brynn Conley never expected to nanny for her childhood crush. When he was a rookie she was totally into him and now his hair is salt & pepper and he is still as handsome as ever.
Shea ends up hiring Brynn and to his surprise she is great with the kids, the only down side is she’s really attractive and fun to be around and he doesn’t need the distraction. To add insult to injury he doesn’t want to jeopardize her employment with him and besides she is too young for him.
This was a cute book with a few twist to keep it interesting.
Book 3 in this Hockey series and a very pleasant read. I enjoyed it the romance between Nanny Brynn and Hockey hottie Shea, was sweet and sexy. Brynn excepts a job from an ad,which so happens to be famous Hockey Captain Shea Ellis from the Boston Brawlers,a guy she used to have a crush on when she was 13 years old and he was a rookie. Now he is 38 and ready to retire from the game, but needs help with his 3 unruly kids. Of course there is a sudden spark between Brynn and Shea which they both try to hide but it can't remain hidden when the pull is so strong. Brynn is a strong character she soon whips the kids into shape and gets the house under control, and Chloe the oldest of the children finds she can confide in her.Chloe is a troubled young woman and Brynn helps her with her issues, plus Chloe is the one who urges her Dad and Brynn to be together. I really didn't know how this book would play out as they try to manuever a secret relationship so the kids don't suspect...because she is still the Nanny. I enjoyed this story,it kept me entertained and it did get better as the story progressed. Fabulous book. that I recommend. 5 stars.
Brynn just finished her last shift as a nanny with a family and she was so upset. She loved being a nanny!
Shea came home from a NHL game late one evening and found his nanny asleep, his teen daughter alone with a boy and his twin boys playing hockey without eating dinner! He let his nanny go and knew he needed one ASAP!
Shea met Brynn at a coffee shop after finding her on a nanny app. Interviewing her he knew she was going to be a problem. She was stunning and he didn’t want any distractions, especially since this was his last season before retiring. After a fan asking for a selfies, Brynn stepped in and stuck up for the pushy fan. Shea knew that she could handle his kids.
The first shift, Brynn won the hearts of the kids and then her dinner for Shea won him over. They had great chemistry. I love how Brynn made sure to build healthy relationships with the kiddos but not overstepping.
Tropes: Single Dad nanny NHL star Forced Proximity OW Drama
I really enjoyed this book. Shea is a man with three young kids at home, who can't seem to hire a nanny worthy of the position. Brynn has just lost her job and accepts the position. As she takes care of his children, secrets are revealed, from both of them, and they have to decide if a relationship is worth it. He knows it's wrong to have anything to do with the nanny, especially since she has helped his daughter a lot, but he can't stay away. She knows she should stay away, because her heart could be broken like it has been many b times it the past, but she can't stay away either. His daughter was wonderful and so smart for her age. When secrets are revealed, will they have what it takes to stay together? I laughed, gasped, and shook my head while reading this book. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest, voluntary review.
Okay so this book was cute but a bit too sappy for me which I think might be the general theme with this series (Ice Daddy and Forbidden Puck). I have to say that I really enjoyed the plot, it was different than the rest of the books in the series which I enjoyed. I was glad that this book was back into the first person after the last one being in the third person. Also I thought Shea and Brynn made a cute pair and his kids were really cute too especially Chloe. I will say that there's I preferred a different book with a similar plot which I recommend, The Marriage Effect. Overall, it was cute though a little sappy and parts were strange so I give it 3.5 stars. - Hannah
