Laurie Alice Eakes used to lie in bed as a child telling herself stories so she didn’t wake anyone else up. Sometimes she shared her stories withothers; thus, when she decided to be a writer, she surprised no one. Seven of her books have been picked up by Thorndike Press for large print publication, and Lady in the Mist, her first book with Revell, was chosen for hardcover publication with Crossings Bookclub. She also teaches on-line writing courses and enjoys a speaking ministry that has taken her from the Gulf Coast to the East Coast.

I've always enjoyed Eakes's historical novels, so I figured I would enjoy this suspense. And I did! It's a thrill ride from start to finish and the amount of things that blow up between the covers is pretty staggering. It's also got a sweet second-chance romance and a nice dash of Christmas-season flavor. Recommended.

Woohoo! I've been a fan of Laurie Alice Eakes's historical fiction so was thrilled to discover she's crossed over into one of my favourite genres. Perilous Christmas Reunion is her debut contemporary romantic suspense and I'm ecstatic to report that it's just as amazing as her historicals!

Her exquisite descriptive writing style meshes perfectly with the signature tension and action found in a suspense novel. Eakes can make a life-and-death scene eerily beautiful! So while I found myself wanting to race ahead to keep on top of the fast-paced plot I just had to slow down and savor her word choice too. Blissful sigh. A sublime reading experience that's left me aching for more Love Inspired Suspense novels from this author! (And the sooner the better!)

Way to go, Laurie Alice Eakes! This book is the author’s first venture into contemporary romantic suspense and I will definitely be looking out for more in this genre from her. This story boasts the same quality writing expected from the author, easy-to-follow and well-planned plot with plenty of plot twists, multi-faceted characters but also has the extra delight of action-filled suspense as Chris, the deputy US Marshal, hunts down a fugitive with the aid of Lauren, the fugitive’s half-sister.

Chris and Lauren have a complicated history and, though they’d gone their separate ways five years ago, they still care for each other. Both are strong and loyal but these great qualities are what keep them apart. As they dodge the bad guys coming after them and try to figure out where Ryan the fugitive went and why he left them clues, their feelings for each other resurface. The book is a great balance of romance, suspense, Christmas festivities and call for forgiveness and second chances.

If you enjoy romantic suspense, you will really enjoy this book! I received a copy of this book by the author/publisher and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Perilous Christmas Reunion. This is the first book that Laurie has written for LIS. I really enjoyed this story and hope to read more of her work. This book is well written, action packed, and full of faith. I always like that. I know you are going to love it.

Lauren Wexler lives out in the middle of now where. Her father and her brother are criminals; because of them she has lost the love of her life when he goes into law enforcement. There is a bad storm coming. She looks out the picture window and sees her brother running toward her house. As he makes it to her porch he falls to the ground as gunshots sound. Was he wounded? He presses something into her hand and then runs away. He leaves a trail of blood. She dives for the floor of the deck behind the wood pile as more shots are fired. She hears someone yell "Freeze! Deputy US Marshal!" I couldn't be him. There must be thousands of Marshals. No there he is! The one man she loves and can't have.

US Marshall Chris Blackwell figures his escaped prisoner will head for his sister. He arrives to gunshots, The brother has escaped but these men are shooting at Lauren. He grabs Lauren as she tries to come out from the woodpile and shoves her back to safety. He leaps for her but is wounded and falls beside her buried under the woodpile. Lauren helps him up and cares for his wound.

A journey of two soulmates that are meant to be together. Family and situations have pulled them apart but God has a plan to bring them back together. God has a plan for a hope and a future for them. God has a plan for you too. No matter what your circumstance are He will make a way where there is no way but you must give Him your heart and let Him take control of your life. I guarantee it will be greater than you ever dreamed.

This was the kind of book that grabbed me from the opening scene and had me thinking about what had happened and what might happen next even when I wasn't turning pages!
I really liked that the suspense was the focus of the story, rather than the romance. Actually, now that I think about it, the romance was mainly just hinted at through the memories of the main characters, at least until you get to nearly the end of the story.
I thought it was interesting that, in addition to the memories, both Lauren and Chris needed to think through their motivations for the actions that caused their separation in the first place, and how those motivations did not honour what God wanted for their lives.
All those thoughts, while, at the same time, fleeing from 'bad guys' who wanted them both dead, but why? (I had suspicions, but only part of them proved accurate.)
Definitely one of the strongest LI books I've read.

Now that I've said I don't read many "Christmas books," here I am reviewing another one. In my defense, my husband bought me this book for Christmas, and when am I not going to read a new book? Anyway, the fact that the book is set during Christmas has almost nothing to do with the plot aside from pointing out the main character's lack of good family relationships. This book was action-packed from beginning to end, and it had interesting characters, but, overall, it barely had a plot. It felt like the book dropped me into the middle of the story and while a few things were explained along the way, some things were not, and, in addition, even the main characters had little depth. Overall, I just wasn't impressed, but I liked it well enough, so this was a 3 star read for me.

The tale of Chris and Lauren took many twists and turns along the way as they escaped danger, confronted their pasts and reconciled a family connection to crime and family loyalty. This modern day thriller was the perfect combination of suspense and rekindled love. Thoroughly enjoyed and heartily recommended! Nicely done, Laurie Alice Eakes!!

Interesting story with lots of action and tense moments. I really liked Lauren although Chris irritated me a little bit. He was sooo hard on her. Exciting and suspenseful read. Enjoyed Laurie’s first LIS and look forward to her next one.

Aggravating

He kept accusing her all through the book, laughs at her when she does lose her temper and yet she puts up with it and says she loves him in the end when I want to figuratively slug him to knock some sense into him.

I found this book kind of boring. Lauren loves a US Marshal (Chris) who is hunting her brother (Ryan) who is turning evidence in about their father.

Lauren and her former fiancee are reunited on her doorstep as criminals are shooting at her brother. Her brother gets away and they attack her home, trying to kill her. Lauren and Chris barely get away and join forces to try to find her brother.

Once started, I only put the book down for a short time before finishing it up. I plan to look for more books by this author
