SHORT STORY His stay at Rosings has brought Fitzwilliam Darcy, Jr, a measure of both delight and anguish as he realises that not only has he become even more attached to the charming daughter of Mr Collins - Miss Emily - but also that his rival, John King, is planning a serious step in order to secure his own future with the beautiful maiden. Where do Emily's affections really lie? This is yet another absorbing tale in the 'Longbourn' series of Jane Austen fan fiction pieces by prolific Australian author Margaret Lynette Sharp.
Margaret Lynette Sharp is an award-winning writer, and the author of over eighty titles, including #1 Amazon Best Seller, 'Longbourn Revisited'. Her work was highly commended during the the 2014 Hurstville Discovery Festival of Community Arts, and published by Hurstville Council in an anthology entitled 'Write Out Loud'. In November 2015 she won a Second Prize, again in the short story section of this same competition, and her title, 'More Than a Mere Bagatelle', has been selected for inclusion in another anthology, 'The Art of Writing'. She spent her early years in an inner city suburb of Sydney, moving with her family to a leafy, outer suburb at the age of ten. A self-motivated student who loved to seek out information, she matriculated just before her eighteenth birthday. Her enthusiasm for literature led to further studies, with a particular focus on Short Story Writing Shortly after the death of her elderly mother whom she cared for, Margaret met and later married Ronald Sharp B.E.M., the creator of the Sydney Opera House Grand Organ. She believes that, without doubt, he was her greatest fan and motivator. Excelling in English himself, Ron had edited much of her early work. He passed away on 21st July, 2021.
Margaret's books have been read and reviewed by readers from Australia, U.S. and India; the vast majority of reviews have been positive.
In addition, she has three blogs on WordPress, which has received many encouraging comments.
This is the fourteenth short story in the Longbourn series. Once again Aussie author Margaret Lynette Sharp keeps us entertained with Jane Austen Fan Fiction style of writing, which I think she has a flare for.
Looking forward to seeing what the next instalment in this series has in stall for us. If you enjoy reading short stories then take a look at this series. Well worth a read. With thanks to the author for my copy to read and review.
Pemberley: Fitzwilliam Stays at Rosings is a short work in the Pemberley series of Jane Austen fan fiction books by Margaret Lynette Sharp. It continues the adventures of the Bennet and Darcy families and their relatives and friends in a Pride and Prejudice-based alternate story line. The plot centers around a visit to Rosings by Fitzwilliam Jr., the son of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, following a ball at which Lady Catherine de Bourgh and her daughter Anne (now Mrs. King) reconcile their longtime differences. Also visiting at Rosings are Anne and her family, including her son, John. Visiting Rosings often from nearby Hunsford is Emily Collins, the daughter of Mr. Collins, who provides piano music at Rosings as well as tutoring Fitzwilliam on the instrument. Both Fitzwilliam Jr. and John are interested in winning Emily’s heart and hand. Which of the two will succeed?
Pemberley: Fitzwilliam Stays at Rosings is another entertaining and engaging vignette in Sharp’s Pemberley collection. This is the third book I’ve read by this author, and I’m always impressed with her ability to capture the personalities and dialog of the original characters, as well as to add interesting new characters into the mix. Sweet romance stories are always charming, even if the target of the romance has a father like Mr. Collins. Emily is portrayed as smart, sweet-tempered, talented, and sensitive. Readers unfamiliar with the previous works in the collection may stumble a little at the different or new relationships in this version, but that said, this is a sweet and charming story which won my heart and totally changed my opinion of Lady Catherine.
Pemberley: Fitzwilliam Stays At Rosings is the fourteenth short story in the Longbourn series, Jane Austen Fan Fiction pieces by Australian author, Margaret Lynette Sharp. Fitzwilliam, son of Elizabeth and Darcy, has taken up Lady Catherine de Bourgh’s invitation to Stay at Rosings, where he is taking lessons in pianoforte from Miss Emily Collins. He revels in the opportunity to converse with Emily on all matters, but another regular visitor to Rosings seems to have similar intentions to his own. Will Fitzwilliam be disappointed in love?
Once again, Sharp easily evokes the style and tone of Austen’s writing, giving the reader a taste of what might have followed in the lives of Lizzy and Darcy and their extended family. Darcy gives his son some sound advice but an announcement from the much-mellowed Lady Catherine means it is, ultimately, not needed. Taken in the spirit intended, this is a brief but enjoyable read. With thanks to the author for this copy to read and review.
As this book is a work of fan fiction, it takes you back to the places and characters of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice".
With "Pemberley: Fitzwilliam Stays at Rosings", Margaret Lynette Sharp has created another nice piece of fan fiction. If you have read "Pride and Prejudice" or even watched the remarkable TV mini-series (1980), you recognize the world of Elizabeth Darcy, née Bennet. The Longbourn series is centred on Elizabeth, whose warmth and intelligence also made "Pride and Prejudice" special. Her husband, Fitzwilliam Darcy, develops nicely - a tendency the readers could assume at the end of "Pride and Prejudice". It is a short read, taking you back to Pemberley - or in this case, Rosings - to further extend your Pride and Prejudice and/or Longbourn/Pemberley experiences. Young Fitzwilliam stays at his aunt Catherine's home, realising how much he cares for Emily. Margaret Lynette Sharp again took up the hard challenge of writing fan fiction on a classic by Jane Austen, aptly enhancing the story without changing the characters' ways; the added next generation brings even more complexity. If you loved Pride and Prejudice, you will appreciate the additional stories this courageous author has to offer.
"Pemberley: Fitzwilliam Stays at Rosings" is a heart-warming story of hope, a lovely - and worthy - continuation of Elizabeth, Darcy, their children, and their story.
This is a book for you if you like "Pride and Prejudice", fan fiction, classic reads, classic reads' aptly written fan fiction, and short instalments.
Rosings Park. Lady Anne King (daughter, wife/mother, cousin, nee Bennet), & her merry bunch of family members are soon to arrive. Fitzwilliam Edward Darcy (son/brother) has asked Lady Catherine de Bourgh (Fitzwilliam’s Aunt, widow) if he could stay also. Ms. Emily Collins (daughter/sister, pianoforte) did not wish to take piano lessons from Aunt Georgiana Hodges (Fitzwilliam’s sister, sister-in-law, Aunt, pianoforte, wealthy, nee Darcy). Now she is a music/piano teacher.
Fitzwilliam Edward Darcy (son/brother) was doing his best to please her. John King (son/grand) kind of fancied Emily & they were off to see the estate gardens. John would someday like to become an artist/painter. Fitzwilliam Edward Darcy (son/brother) was getting quite jealous of the 2 but knew it was to no avail.
His son shared his feelings of/about the girl with Fitzwilliam Darcy (husband/father). John also had a heart/heart talk with Lady Catherine de Bourgh about Emily.
Will 1 of them win her love?
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one. All thoughts & opinions are entirely my own.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written down under romance (short story) book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great down Aussie romance movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.
