Kya flew next to her oldest sister, Ledisi, who was moving at a comfortable pace for her sister to keep up. But she was getting tired and would love to take a rest. Her sister called her “little Bloodstone”, referring to how all Dracontias were called by the name of the stone in their skull. Ledisi’s name was Soul Stone Dragon which referred to her amethyst healing magic. But Kya preferred her sister to just call her “Kya” when they were not in Buto and their father wasn’t around. Ledisi was heading on to Canada while Kya was to land on the East Coast of the U.S. to find an honorable human – if such could be found -- who might give her a better understanding of herself through their experiences. She would shift and walk among humans to find that special one – but she didn’t want to!
Kya landed in a dirty alley and rested near a dumpster. She was awakened by two men trying to rape a frightened woman. Before she could act, a big man came out of the bar and attacked the two cowards. He gave his shirt to the woman to cover up, and other men gently took her inside the bar. They told Alexander Knight to go home, they would handle the cops. Even though he did the right thing, his being involved in this could mess up his chance of getting into the US Secret Service, which was important to him. Kya watched, then followed him as left the alley.
This was a very different approach to a love story – or maybe not so different after all! Kya and Alexander meet and, over time, they fall in love, learning what it is to respect differences and value what is truly important in life. The story line is full of action and suspense, some really great events and some really upsetting ones. But the author handles the story very well and the reader won’t regret reading this one. It will stay with you!
