Stones of Dracontias: The Bloodstone Dragon

Rate this book
A life without love, forbidden or not, is a life unlived…

For generations the worlds of man and dragon have lived peacefully side-by-side. Harmonious and yet wholly separate, there is much unknown between them--but that is all about to change. For love knows neither color nor creed, and where there is passion, heat, and desire, it will spark.

So begins the story of Kya the Bloodstone Dragon and Armstrong Knight, the unwitting victims of love’s impervious pull. For when a dragon-shifter walks amongst the humans, the wheels of fate begin to turn and what was once separate worlds collide in the throes of young love. Their bonds will be tested by fate and the greedy, cruel hearts of wicked men. When their very lives, and the secret they share, are threatened, Kya and Armstrong must defy the odds and do what they can to protect the human and dragon worlds. In the chaos, a love story unfolds between two unlikely heroes and the lengths we all go to for the ones we love.

In a world that knows dragons exist, their coexistence is peaceful until the dragon world and mankind collide in a raging inferno of passions of the heart and of the hateful machinations of the brilliant, yet twisted minds of science.

N.D. Jones brings a tale of love, betrayal and redemption to life as Kya, the Bloodstone Dragon defies the Fates and falls in love with a human, Armstrong Knight, a man of honor with a heart of gold. This is a tale that will test the adage that “love conquers all,” as these two find a secret oasis that they each know can go no further, because time is not on their side.

When evil threatens to tear them apart, even the magic of the dragons cannot prevent a crazed scientist from turning up the flames of Hell with his sadistic dreams of creation that knows no bounds of vile experimentation. The secret shared between Kya and Armstrong will become a nightmare that will tear them apart, but only together, can they fight for the ones they love and the love they once shared.

Ms. Jones has not taken the well-traveled path with her paranormal romance. She has created a unique world unlike anything I have read before! I loved that Kya was not a shapeshifter, she wasn’t even from Earth, but her powerful magic could create a beautiful woman where a fierce dragon once stood. I was also taken by the fact that Armstrong fell in love with the dragon, not the woman Kya could become.

This isn’t a rapid-fire action tale, it is a love story gone so very wrong when evil steps in. Don’t get me wrong, there is action and those scenes are powerful and emotionally charged. But for me, it was the extremes two beings would go to for those they loved. And that ending? All I can say is I was caught up in its web…N.D. Jones has a hit here that will sucker-punch your heart! Publishing just in time for great summer reading!

I received a complimentary ARC copy from N.D. Jones!

Stones of Dracontias is probably one of the more unique dragon fantasy romances I've read. In this world dragons are known by humans in that they come around to heal people and do acts of world peace and then they disappear. Sometimes you see sightings of them on television but they don't live among humans in that sense. Kya is the youngest dragon, the Bloodstone dragon, and her father has ordered her to go and observe and essentially learn what it means to be a human by picking one and shadowing him. All dragons have done this at a certain point in their life cycle because humans change each generation and dragons live a very long time.

This human for Kya ends up being Armstrong. She observes him saving a woman from being raped and is so intrigued by him that she follows him home and reveals her intentions. Armstrong, however, is not what she expects because he's not afraid of her. He's drawn to her, not just because she's a dragon but on a deeper level. This leads to a multi-year friendship and eventually a romantic partnership.

Of course there are humans who have nefarious minds. The Circle of Drayke are after trying to capture dragons to lock them up and study them or use them for their own purposes. Sometimes those reasons are science related because they want to extend their life and other times it's strictly politically evil reasons. There are some graphic violence scenes that might trigger some so fair warning.

I enjoyed the story for the most part. The plot was presented pretty well and I had no illusions of the type of characters I was reading. Armstrong was probably my favorite. He was a well, written fleshed out love interest. He definitely was the perfect pairing for a dragon woman who was very blunt but also very caring even when it went against her best interests. However, I had a huge problem mainly with the time jumps. Essentially this story takes place over the span of like 60 years and most of the time you were just told the ending and then you weakly relive a portion of how you got to that result. Later in the book it became hard to follow and my excitement died down quite a lot. For example, there was plenty sexual tension but when the intimate scene finally happened it was just said and then it was like "oh yeah so it happened one night and it was great" and that's all you get. Left me quite underwhelmed.

This was my first book by the author and I'll probably try a different book at a later date.

Stones of Dracontias was a fun read about a Bloodstone Dragon who unwittingly falls in love with a human. The story spans many decades as Armstrong and Kya do their best to keep each other safe from those who would rather conquer the power of dragons than work alongside them. Love is the thread throughout this novel.

She's a dragon and he's a human they started out with problems. But their attraction was strong and their story unfolded over a period of time. I enjoyed the story line and liked the little twist in story. Really good book.

Kya flew next to her oldest sister, Ledisi, who was moving at a comfortable pace for her sister to keep up. But she was getting tired and would love to take a rest. Her sister called her “little Bloodstone”, referring to how all Dracontias were called by the name of the stone in their skull. Ledisi’s name was Soul Stone Dragon which referred to her amethyst healing magic. But Kya preferred her sister to just call her “Kya” when they were not in Buto and their father wasn’t around. Ledisi was heading on to Canada while Kya was to land on the East Coast of the U.S. to find an honorable human – if such could be found -- who might give her a better understanding of herself through their experiences. She would shift and walk among humans to find that special one – but she didn’t want to!

Kya landed in a dirty alley and rested near a dumpster. She was awakened by two men trying to rape a frightened woman. Before she could act, a big man came out of the bar and attacked the two cowards. He gave his shirt to the woman to cover up, and other men gently took her inside the bar. They told Alexander Knight to go home, they would handle the cops. Even though he did the right thing, his being involved in this could mess up his chance of getting into the US Secret Service, which was important to him. Kya watched, then followed him as left the alley.

This was a very different approach to a love story – or maybe not so different after all! Kya and Alexander meet and, over time, they fall in love, learning what it is to respect differences and value what is truly important in life. The story line is full of action and suspense, some really great events and some really upsetting ones. But the author handles the story very well and the reader won’t regret reading this one. It will stay with you!

Again N. D. Jones has written a wonderful book. Once I started this story it was impossible to put it down. She is definitely one of my favourite authors.

The characters were wonderful and the story was fabulous. I loved both Kya and Armstrongs character development, it was slow but not boring, you grew with them every step. Their emotions became yours and as the storyline emerges you become so immersed, the next thing you know it is 3.45am and you wonder if you can function on only a few hours sleep!

Honestly.....this was an amazing story, it had everything you need in a fantasy. Dragon Shifters, an honourable human lover, wonderful family dynamics of both human and dragon, a tale of true love, a battle of good over evil, bloody revenge and emotional sacrifices. I couldn't read fast enough in places and didn't want it to end.

I wouldn't hesitate recommending this book. Absolutely wonderful!

I received a free copy of this book via Hidden Gems and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Stones of Dracontias is a very gripping romance. This dragon, may be young but she is also fierce and loyal. A gold colored dragon with a heart of gold. Her attraction to a human in not uncommon for these dragons, but the relationships do not usually last. This relationship was definitely put through the ringer, and withstood the trial it was put through. And boy was it put to a test.

I really enjoyed this Dragon, human romance, and am looking forward to reading more about the Stones of Dracontias.

A heart wrenching tale of love and ultimate commitment! As a young new Dragon Kya must venture out into the world of humans to learn about them! She soon encounters two men assaulting a young woman but before she can intervene a man bursts on the scene and breaks up the attempted rape! This act compels her to learn more about this diata she has found! Thus begins a story of love, compassion, and a growing understanding between two like souls! The story is full of action, adventure, and heart warming love! There is also a good deal of humorous misunderstanding between Kya and Knight! This is the first story in what should prove to be a very entertaining series!

**The cover is lovely.

Kya a young dragon has come to live and learn amongst human society. Having somewhat guarded opinions about humans, she witnesses the best and the worst of human behaviour in one volatile encounter. Armstrong Knight is possessed of qualities that make him Kya's ideal choice to acquire a better understanding of human behaviour. What starts as friendship evolves into a beautiful loving relationship. This is the first paranormal romance I've read where the female lead is the dragon, which I enjoyed very much.

A cool story about Kya and Armstrong that follows their story from when they first meet and spans years as they slowly fall in love with each other knowing they are so different. There were funny scenes and sad scenes but the underlying story was how long can conquer all if given enough time. Of course besides the basic love story there was some action and really bad guys. Just a well written story that caught my attention and kept me reading until the end. And do not forget it has dragons!

ONE POWERFUL STORY!

A tale of two different species meeting and proving that presumptions and prejudicial judgements don’t pertain to everyone. A few or a lot of bad people do not represent any species, as a whole. Armstrong and Kya prove this through their love and with the sacrifices and love they share.

When Kya flew to the U.S. she was only looking for a mentor. What she found in Armstrong was the love of her life ! This dragon shifter story shows that love and family is stronger than rules and customs. ND Jones once again has mastered the paranormal genre!

The true story

This isn't the fairy tale you heard as a child, where the brave knight slays the dragon, rescues the princess, fade to Happy-ever-after. It isn't even the instant-love dragon shifter claims the human woman and they get their HEA. This is the REAL love story. The one where the good human Knight and the very non-human dragon Kya learn through trials, errors, tragedy and forgiveness, to love and to bridge all that divides them. This is how love conquers all. This isn't HEA, because real love takes a lifetime. N. D. Jones writes this moving and powerful allegory with the wisdom of the heart, and a mere 5 stars is not enough to do it justice.

What a wonderful story of dragons and humans. They lived peacefully together, oblivious of each other. That’s going to change soon. What a story to keep you reading.

I liked the balance that exists in this shifter romance. The attraction was between a dragon shifter (female) and the human(male). Both of the lovers kept secrets that damaged their relationship and caused much heartache. In the end, the results were not expected and satisfying.

Queen of Dragons!

I always say ND Jones is one of my favorite authors and this book proves yet again why that is. I got action, adventure, romance, and family in this book. Plus no one writes a "goodbye" (read if you want to know why I used quotes) like her. An autobuy victory every time
