Boy, do I love me so good old-fashioned drama. While this particular drama isn't original and, quite frankly, is what you would expect from a story like this, I am enjoying it and am curious to see where it goes.
One thing that I am curious about is Hinana taking charge in the relationship. Shige mentions that her relationship with Ayase "fell into her lap" when he's discussing Shu wanting to get back with Ayase. This is a very interesting line because, at least to me, what Shige is saying is that Hinana didn't have to work to enter into a relationship with Ayase. Yes, she confessed her feelings and made time to see him, but she hasn't been as proactive as Ayase and Shige's effectively calling her out on it. Since he knows Shu WILL go to whatever lengths to get Ayase back, Shige's essentially warning Hinana that if she doesn't step up her game, she could lose Ayase. This is interesting and I'm curious to see whether she will or not. That being said, I'm not terribly bothered that Hinana hasn't been as proactive as Ayase seeing as Ayase is so happy just to spend time with her, but I'd be impressed if she took Shige's words to heart and tried harder in her relationship with Ayase.
Ah-chan was also proactive in this volume and while he didn't piss me off nearly as much Okomon in Takane and Hana, the fact that he refuses to give up on Hinana despite her relationship with Ayase really bothers me. I know he thinks Ayase's hurting her, but so much of that is taken out of context and he's conveniently not seeing the numerous times she is happy with him. Whatever, I've resigned myself to tolerating him since this is a rom-com manga, but still.
That's really all I have to say. This was an adorable, fun volume that I thoroughly enjoyed. Right, onto volume 6!

In this volume, we find out how much HAHAHA 1/2 kidding.
A lot happened in this volume but as what I've said before, I felt like the pacing is already improving. We start to learn more on Kaede's past and I think we'll start to learn more from it moving forward. Also, I actually like the way Mikimoto-sensei writes her confession scenes so I was actually looking forward to when Ah-chan will confess to Hinana, and if I have to be honest, I'm a bit disappointed at how it turned out. Well, I don't want to sound like a broken record but compared to Kyou no Kira-kun, this one doesn't excite me as much as KnKK did, but I'm still looking forward to reading the next volume. Hopefully, the improvement continues and I'll be drawn-in into this series too. :)

Not too much happens in this volume except a huge confession from a certain friend I'm hopeful that this series doesn't continue on for too long, but I feel like the slow movement of the main story means that it will be around for a while.

Je vais m’arrêter là avec Kiss me at midnight. Je n’arrive pas à trouver un grand intérêt au manga, et je pense qu’en cinq tomes, j’ai bien pu me faire une idée et lui donner sa chance. J’apprécie beaucoup les deux héros que je trouve très mignons et dont la relation est intéressante, mais il n’y a pas de magie pour moi.
Je me suis un peu lassée du côté drama qui est trop lourd à mon goût et surtout pas assez développé pour que l’on puisse réellement y trouver un intérêt. J’ai plus l’impression que la mangaka ne trouvait pas vraiment comment mettre des bâtons dans les roues de ses héros et qu’elle a choisi des idées vues et revues, en y mettant un peu de « trop ». Entre les manigances puériles, et le carré amoureux, je ne suis pas hypée.
C’est dommage car la relation entre Hinana et Kaede est saine, basée sur la communication et sur l’acceptation de l’autre, et c’est quelque chose qui n’arrive pas souvent. Le fait qu’ils évoluent aussi dans deux milieux totalement différents donnait un petit plus à la romance.
Mais quand je vois des adultes s’en prendre sans vergogne à une adolescente… ça me refroidit, surtout que c’est fait de façon très mesquine. Et j’ai peur que la suite soit dans la même veine. Il y aura sûrement une accalmie, mais elle arrivera sans doute trop tard pour moi, donc je préfère limiter la casse.

This series is so sweet and funny. I love the art style. Kaede and Hinana are wonderful together, and I enjoyed how they stayed together despite moves being made on each of them by other people in this one. I am excited to read the next volume! 4 stars.

Today’s post is on Kiss Me at the Stroke of Midnight, Vol. 5 by Rin Mikimoto. It is 192 pages long and is published by Kodansha Comics. The cover has Kaede and Hinana on it. As it is the fifth in the series, you need to have the first four volumes. The intended reader is someone who likes shojo manga, vague re-retellings of fairy tales, and cute characters. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of the different characters moving from character to character as the story needs. There Be Spoilers.

Review- The story continues from the last volume with Kaede working a lot on a series with his ex and Hinana realizing that being with him has some serious downsides. But the big problems in this volume is Kaede’s ex and Hinana’s friend, both admit that they love Kaede and Hinana respectively. Ai-chan didn’t mean to tell Hiana but now that he has, I know that it will cause some issues and Shu, Kaede’s ex, is now threatening Hinana by saying that she will publish photos of her and Kaede and that will ruin Kaede’s career. I hope that the drama with Kaede’s ex does not last too long but I am still enjoying this series and I am curious about what is going to happen next.
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Aufmachung
Ehrlich gesagt, hätte ich die Reihe wahrscheinlich nicht gekauft, bei Betrachtung des Covers und des Klappentextes.
Tatsächlich gefallen mir die S/W Illustrationen im Innern wesentlich besser. Irgendwie habe ich das Gefühl, dass er dort die Liebe zum Detail für die Charaktere so richtig hervorsticht. Auch die Chibi Zeichnungen sind unfassbar toll.
Und endlich sind beide auf einem Cover. Da wo sie meiner Meinung nach auch hingehören.
Protagonisten
Anfangs dachte ich wirklich, die beiden könnten nicht gegensätzlicher sein. Aber dieses anfängliche Bild macht es umso spannender.
Hinana ist sehr fleißig, lernt gern und ist unfassbar strukturiert. Jeder Tag beginnt exakt gleich. Sie ist klug und sieht sich in ihrer Freizeit gern allein Liebesfilme in einem kleinen Kino an.
Ayase hingegen ist ein gut aussehender Superstar, der in der Öffentlichkeit Inkognito bleiben muss. Er ist sehr selbstsicher, hat einen Hinterfetisch, doch scheint er Gentlemen zu sein.
Fazit:
Oh man, jetzt muss ich auf Nachschub warten. Das ist echt hart, denn Teil 5 war super romantisch und schön. Abgesehen von Shu's liegen nun alle Karten auf dem Tisch. Trotzdem scheint die allgemeine Harmonie der Geschichte nicht zu bröseln. Hoffentlich bleibt es bei der "Wir gegen den Rest der Welt" Geschichte. Diese Standhaftigkeit habe ich nämlich schon bei Only the Ring Finger knows (Gibts leider nicht mehr) geliebt.
Definitiv kann ich schon sagen, dass Kuss um Mitternacht zu meinen Highlights zählt. Ein wundervoller Shojo den ich wärmsten empfehlen kann.

La coppia potrebbe diventare ben presto un quadrilatero: da un lato, c'è la presenza ingombrante della ex di Kaede - Shu Uchida, bellissima e, a quanto pare, intenzionata a riprendersi il fidanzato (tanto più che ora ha pure scoperto che lui sta frequentando una liceale) -, dall'altro, c'è il povero Aki, amico di infanzia di Hinana e perdutamente innamorato di lei...e che soffre terribilmente il confronto con Kaede. Eppure, il sentimento pare essere reciproco, visto che anche l'attore sembra sentirsi in difetto rispetto a questo ragazzo.
Oggettivamente in questo volume succede un po' poco (a parte la fissa di Nana per i succhiotti, di cui facevamo volentieri a meno): se non altro Kaede sembra intenzionato a fare sul serio con la nostra protagonista, a dispetto della sua fissazione per i culetti (pure di questo facevamo a meno).
Il festival culturale della scuola potrebbe essere l'occasione giusta per sbrogliare un po' la matassa...oppure le cose finiranno per complicarsi ancora di più?
Oggettivamente in questo volume succede un po' poco (a parte la fissa di Nana per i succhiotti, di cui facevamo volentieri a meno): se non altro Kaede sembra intenzionato a fare sul serio con la nostra protagonista, a dispetto della sua fissazione per i culetti (pure di questo facevamo a meno).

I just have one complaint. Can we get rid of the manager? Does he serve any other purpose than to drive into Hinana's life and fill her with doubt and anxiety? Why would she trust him? "Hi! I just wanted you to know that your boyfriend is being chased by his ex-girlfriend. She asked me for advice on how to get him back, so I gave her some suggestions. Also, I'm not in her side." It's not a great plot point. Anytime Hinana is on top of the world, the mangaka has Mr. Sunshine make a visit. Then again, I think I have people like that guy in my life. "Don't be too happy!" they'll tell me. "You might get hit by a car. You never know." Thanks?

I picked up the first of the series on kindle unlimited to check it out and ended up reading the entire series ending up staying late to finish. I just loved the idea for this one the celebrity and the high school girl just works. I love that they both grew so much over the course of the series. This is a quick fast paced sweet whirlwind romance. I'm going to need these for my collection. I was super sad to see the series end but I'm so glad that I got a happy ever after. It's a beautiful story with equally beautiful artwork.

Well, here we have the intervening Fujoshi type of girl and all the cliches are yet again complete. I actually really liked the beginning of the series but it just became one of the usual shojo series. I think I've lost interest in this series and am therefore dropping the manga.
Sadly, I expected something else since I already loved Rin Mikimotos other popular story.

Mammamia, com'ero rimasta indietro con le recensioni... E pensare che ne ho ancora cinque da scrivere per arrivare in pari.
In questo volume arriva un accenno di triangolo ma ho l'impressione che l'autrice non darà troppo importanza a ciò. Insomma, la storia è centrata su Kaede e Hinana e non c'è davvero spazio per un terzo incomodo.

This volume was pure sugar. Love their communication - at least from Ayase’s side - and there was so much cuteness here. He really did come to surprise her. I might get the feeling that he will feel a bit jealous about A-chan because he can be with Hinana any time, no matter where. But I don’t think, he has to worry. Shu … well … I hope this doesn’t go in a specific direction …

I really wish there wasn't this huge age gap between Kaede and Nana. Kaede is a good boyfriend and he communicates! The fact that miscommunication is not currently being used as a plot device is a huge relief. That being said the bomb that was dropped at the end of this volume may change that. 😔

Kaede always surprises me. He’s so damn sweet to Hinana.
And Hinana’s “closet pervert“ side kills me! She’s too damn cute!
The only thing that’s annoying is that this volume ended with the cliche of “ex wants the love interest back and now she wants to blackmail the main character”..... UGH NO!

This series is quite addictive, I enjoy the plot and how it is developing/changing as well as how the characters develop and change.
