Okay, this is one of those cookbooks written by a blogger, so it's full of details about her life, her husband, her move to Central America, and other stuff un-related to Keto or cooking.

But I did like quite a few recipes, like the Snickerdoodle crepes, Tandoori Chicken Meatballs, and the Panang Shrimp Curry. The lovely color photos next to each recipe were a nice touch.

It seems like there is a new diet fad surfacing every season. There’s low calorie diets, high calorie diets, low fat diets, high fat diets, Vegetarian and/or Vegan diets, Mediterranean diets, Paleo/raw diet, detox diets, low carbohydrate diets, and about a thousand more. Each one claims to offer rapid weight loss without the dieter having to give up their favorite comfort foods or spend hours working out. Millions of dollars have been spent on researches trying to find out which diet is the best. The problem with all diets is sustainability. Most diets are just hard to stick to, and dieters often fall off the wagon or get discouraged when they don’t see instant results. When someone decides to start a diet, they are already setting themselves up for failure. To lose and maintain your desired weight, changes in your diet must become part of your long term lifestyle.

Lately, the newest diet fad to grace the Internet is the keto diet. What exactly is the keto diet you ask? Well, it is essentially a low carb, moderate protein, and high fat diet. Once you cut out most carbohydrates and processed foods from your diet, ketosis kicks in. Ketosis is a normal metabolic process in which your body burns fat for fuel instead of stored carbohydrates, thus resulting in weight loss. Starting on a keto journey is daunting. Thankfully, food blogger Mellissa Sevigny has compiled a wonderful cookbook to help you on your journey. Sevigny’s book, Keto for Life: Look better, feel better, and watch the weight fall off with 160+ delicious high fat recipes, makes diving into the keto lifestyle a lot less intimidating. Keto for Life is divided into three easy to read parts. In part 1, she does a great job of explaining exactly what the keto diet entails, how to stick with the lifestyle (and what to do if you fall off the wagon), as well as different kitchen devices you will need to succeed. Part 2 gives a detailed 4-week, easy to follow meal plan and shopping list. Part 3 is the recipes. Unlike many cookbooks, Sevigny includes a picture of every recipe in her book, along with icons identifying if the recipe is dairy free, egg free, nut free, and vegetarian. These icons are especially helpful for people with allergies and intolerances. Along with great photos and helpful icons, Sevigny includes the yield, prep and cook time, nutritional value, and tips on storage and reheating. Keto for Life was written with busy families in mind. Sevigny’s recipes easy to follow and won’t break the bank. The best part? Everything looks delicious and will satisfy the pickiest of eaters. There’s a lot of variety too so you won’t get bored with the same boring zucchini noodles day in and day out. She also provides readers with additional resources she found useful when compiling this book and an illustrative index.

Keto for Life: Look better, feel better, and watch the weight fall off with 160+ delicious high fat recipes, is visually pleasing, well organized, and personable. Mellissa Sevigny’s sense of humor and straightforwardness make you feel like you’re talking to a friend. Keto for Life is great for both novice and experienced Keto dieters.

This cookbook is filled with the info you need to embark on the keto lifestyle, as well as three weeks of starter plans. There are some recipes in here that look advanced, time consuming, or require special ingredients, (hemp protein powder, Daikon noodles, cacao nibs) so maybe steer clear of those if you're a beginner just trying to figure keto out and get your pantry in shape. But for those of us who have made low-carb their permanent status, there's a ton of tasty recipes and inspiration in here.

Melisssa's got a great section on "basics" covering every seasoning, sauce, or salad dressing you could want. She also has a nice part just for adult beverages. There is a well-rounded dessert section, but my complaint with all keto desserts (including many here) is the expense of the ingredients. Although readily available, at its very cheapest, erythritol or Swerve is about $6/per 12 ounces. When a recipe calls for two cups, it's likely going to get passed over in my home. There's a great variety of meat, poultry and seafood options to pull from as well. (No one is ever going to convince me cauliflower tastes like a potato though.) Also notable is her fermented foods chapter. Worth checking out if you're into those healthy bites!

Overall a well rounded keto cookbook with some new (to me at least) delicious recipes, great photos, and guidance. Great addition to a low-carber's cookbook arsenal. She also has many wonderful recipes, meal plans, and solid information on her blog; I Breathe I'm Hungry.

My husband and I started a keto diet on our own. We really liked it, felt great, and were losing some extra padding. One of the great things about keto is that we never feel hungry like we have with other diets. Keto has become a lifestyle choice rather than just a diet. BUT I'm a terrible cook! Awful, boring, clueless. So I needed a recipe book. This one is absolutely the best. Even I can cook healthy delicious meals. I waited to review until I had tried 90% of the recipes, so I could stand behind my statement. The author gives great tips, sample menus, and important nutritional information for each recipe. I found most of the ingredients in my grocery store and ordered the few that I couldn't find online. Highly recommended.

This is a great book with so many yummy recipes. I've been reading and studying this book to get myself started back up eating more healthy. I love Mellissa Sevigny and have been following her blog, I Breathe I'm Hungry for several years now. If you are thinking of eating Keto/Low Carb, Mellissa is the person to go to. She has a livable plan that is easy to follow. On her website, she has weekly menus to follow to get you started. This is one of the better books out there to help a novice get started on this WOE (Way of Eating). Even though I've read all of this book I know I will be using it as a resource for years to come!

This is by far one of my FAVORITE Keto cookbooks. Mellissa has a 4 week Keto plan that is easy to prepare and very easy to follow. I have done it twice so far over the last 4 months and I incorporate at least a few of her recipes into my menu weekly. I recommend it for anyone following the Keto way of eating, but especially for the beginner or those who struggle with meal planning and macro counting. This cookbook was well worth the price paid! Now if she would just come out with a Keto Instant Pot cookbook my day would be made!!

Description of keto, specific how-tos, pantry and equipment list, tasty easy-to-follow recipes, and, more importantly, encouragement for you when you accidentally get out of ketosis. She also has recipes for adult beverages that appear pretty tasty; I'm looking forward to trying several of those.

Too many spicy recipes for me. Often people substitute a food group for a spice and I am not a spicy food fan.

I wanted a recipe book, rather than just searching for recipes online and this book fit my criteria. It had some very basic recipes that I've tried and enjoyed, as well as some more complex recipes that I haven't made yet. I would recommend this recipe book for anyone looking for new ideas for low-carb recipes to use daily.

I follow Melissa on Facebook and her recipes are always basic, easy and delicious. She's like the Betty Crocker of Keto. This book is a compilation of her most popular and contains lots of general recipes like seasoning mixes and salad dressings which are staples that are always good to have on hand. I have a hard copy for home and also got the kindle version for when I'm at my vacation home. A good book to have on hand for anyone following a ketogenic diet.
