Gary Collins has a very interesting and unique background that includes military intelligence, Special Agent for the U.S. State Department Diplomatic Security Service, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Collins’ background and expert knowledge brings a much-needed perspective to today’s areas of simple living, health, nutrition, entrepreneurship, self-help and being more self-reliant. He holds an AS degree in Exercise Science, BS in Criminal Justice, and MS in Forensic Science.
Gary was raised in the High Desert at the basin of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in a rural part of California. He now lives off-the-grid part of the year in a remote area of NE Washington State, and the other part of year exploring in his travel trailer with his trusty black lab Barney.
He enjoyed, and considers himself lucky to have grown up in a very small town experiencing fishing, hunting, and anything outdoors from a very young age. First of all I received an arc of this book by Hidden Gems for an honest review! I would first start off by saying that I found it a little pompous when right from the get go the author, Gary Collins when he states Bottom line: no one else in the health industry has my background—no one! I seriously don’t think that this is true when there are so many other professionals and educators out there, so I feel like I’m trying to be duped! However I will say that there is a plethora of great information to be had in this guide, such as a great list for shopping and what spices, oils, etc.. to use . Also I found some great tips on exercising and steps to ensure better eating habits. I disagree with his statements of saying that obesity is not from overeating and that eating too many calories does not cause excessive weight gain, but that is only my opinion.. overall I found it a great reference and will use a lot of the info given
A great guide for those trying to navigate the world of healthy eating. Gary does a fantastic job of simplifying some complex topics. I’ve dropped weight, my stomach is flatter and my bowels are acting normally (didn’t know this was possible), my energy has increased dramatically, I sleep better, and my mood has improved! Couldn’t be happier and it was all super easy to implement.
This was a very informative and easy to read book. The author has a unique combination of experience and skills that make him very knowledgeable on this topic. Lots of great information and suggestions for weight loss, exercise, eating right -- living the simple life.
I ike that this book does not offer false promises or quick fixes. What it does offer is simple to understand and easy to put into practice advice. This book lets you know that your goals are attainable . I especially like the shopping lists
I read this in a couple of nights before bedtime. I really found it easy to understand and agreed with all of it. I would recommend that everyone read this.
This book has a lot of general health advice that is not just the over-shared, run of the mill. Could have used an update but the author has prematurely passed away.
