Need this you do...if calm you want to be. Zenful advice from Yoda - a great gift for that Star Wars fan that you know who might be going through some hard times. I really like books like this; they defiantly have nice 'nuggets' of advice to bite into - but they are also fun!
"Sometimes we live in our heads too much, suseptible to agitated thoughts - even if our minds are not being probed by a bare-chested dark-sider who wears his pants a little too high." BRB *DYING*
It wasn't as funny as Be More Vader. It's as though they were afraid to full on spoof the whole mindfulness movement. There were a few small giggles, but no belly laughs here. The advice wasn't anything new; they just tried to tie in Star Wars references. They didn't even do that enough for me.
The photos were good.
The book, along with the others in the series, would've been better as one book. Do a funny quiz to start it, so the reader can see which character they're most like, and who they need to be more like, so as to balance The Force in them.
I brought this one today at the South Kensington Star Wars fan exhibit. The person I went with paid, so bonus. Just need to grab the Vader one to read.
Usually, I avoid mindfulness books or any psychology mediums. It’s great in fiction but having someone try and guide you through life isn’t for me. I know someone that has a Bruce Lee book, as well as one which suggests freezing cold showers.
This is was an interesting one. Big movie picture on the left with a quote underneath. A drawn Yoda head, title and paragraph on the right. It’s basic things like taking a moment to breath, not self doubting and the usual meditation/spiritual/calmness.
What I liked about this one was the grain of advice tucked away in Star Wars references, which did make it entertaining. The examples took a moment to remember the scenes listed and did overshadow the advice.
I think the only thing I learnt was that I need to go back and watch the movies, because I have the memory of a sieve. I’d compare it to my views on novelty cook books. They look interesting but I’m not going to try any of the recipes.

This was good. I enjoyed it. Lots of movie quotes and real-life mindfulness and self-help advice. I teach mindfulness to my kids. It's a part of our daily homeschool routine. This book is gonna make it even more fun...and nerdy. 🖤😎
Be More Yoda is actually a helpful little book on mindful thinking. Though many of the lessons are veiled in the references to the characters and movies, making it more fun, the core principles can be relevant to life too, if you only think to apply it, which can be a first step in mindfulness now I think about it.
The book has helped me realise I don’t always live in the moment, thinking forever about plans for the future, and this doesn’t help me enjoy life sometimes, by needing to pass the time with fixed jobs instead of being aware what’s actually happening around in my space to help me enjoy life to the maximum.
Sometimes believing in absolutes or seeking fixed solutions to life’s problems doesn’t help either, as the book advises against. In this way, in my own case, it has helped warn me against obsessive thought patterns and black and white thinking.
I’d have liked the book to be expanded or in more detail, and then I may have gotten more out of it, but there are also advantages to it being a quick read, making mindfulness accessible.
I was surprised by how much help the book was. I expected to chuckle a few times and then discard it, but to feel wisdom in the pages means I got more out of it. Thanks DK Publishing.
As a huge Star Wars nerd I loved everything about this book. It’s an adorable and quick read with a substantial amount of wisdom on mindfulness and personal growth. I mean, it’s from the perspective of a Jedi Master.
I've got a long way to go before I'm a true Jedi, apparently. I'd say on a scale from C-3PO to Yoda, I'm about an Episode II Anakin. As long as I'm not an Episode III Anakin, though, amirite?! Hahaha! He murdered children.
This seems like an easy cash-in product on the surface: a lot of psychological/meditative bromides, but accompanied by a pleasant selection of pictures from virtually all the Lucasverse movies. But it reaches its 3 star level for thankfully including some deprecating-yet-epic shots at itself...a few that actually made me laugh out loud. Look out in particular for its needling of Anakin's hilarious meditations on sand.
A high level overview of mindfulness from a Stars Wars point of view, what’s not to like? Plus, there are some hidden gems, my favourite: ‘Bravery isn’t the absence of fear, it’s your constructive response to it.’ 4 stars
This book is something you should read when your feeling down because it is full of quotes from Jedis all over the galaxy. This book is also full of hidden jokes and subtle references. References are about characters in the Star Wars Saga.
A fun book with psychologically sound tips. Each half page provides a mindfulness tip wrapped in a Star Wars theme. The techniques given are the same ones taught in counseling courses. Readin them this way is a lot more fun, though!
It is a very short book that is like a guide on how to better yourself and how to live your day to day life mindfully and to do your best and to not let any setbacks or challenges scare you and instead of running away face them as you can only get better if you face problems than to find the easy and or safe way out.
Found this book in a library and wanted to read this for fun and it is fun to read this and if you are someone loss in your life you can certainly benefit from this book
For Christianity we often ask "What would Jesus do?" The back cover of "Be More Yoda" asks "What would Yoda do?"
In the 2001 UK Census Jedi was the fourth highest reported religion in the country so maybe, just maybe, this "Be More Yoda: mindful thinking from a galaxy far, far away" book is the Jedi bible, albeit a slimmer one than the Christian Bible. After all it does contain "inspiring words of wisdom from Master Yoda and a host of other Star Wars mentors".
Inside are 5 chapters: 1. Seeking mindfulness, 2. Overcoming obstacles, 3. Finding mindful moments, 4. Awakening your potential, 5. Unleashing your mastery.
Each chapter has an opening paragraph and 5 lessons within. The lessons contain a colour photo from a Star Wars film with one of the Star Wars characters in it and a quote of theirs underneath such as "...Do. Or do not. There is no try." Then on the opposite page is a lesson which consists of a title and an explanatory paragraph.
The lessons have mindfulness tips in them but also humour. For example many contain the comedy rule of three where two everyday situations are presented before a Star Wars situation which would never happen in real life is presented. For example: "Something unexpected can lie in your path - you could be laid off, face a breakup or suddenly encounter an imperial cruiser when you're smuggling a shipload of spice."
With the combination of humour and Star Wars references this book would definitely suit a Star Wars nut who likes a laugh.
This book gains points for sharing lovely stills and quotes from the Star Wars films -- and, to be perfectly honest, including two of my favorite characters (Qui-Gon Jinn and Chirrut Îmwe) -- but I was hoping for slightly more meaningful commentary and less inside-joke, wink-to-the-audience levity. A book doesn't have to be long or boring to be insightful.
If you're looking for a coffee table book that you can flip through when you have a spare five minutes to gain a nostalgic smile, this is just fine. If you're interested in mindful thinking in Star Wars, however, you'll do far better with a work that takes its subject more seriously, such as Matthew Bortolin's The Dharma of Star Wars.
I received this book from the Amazon Vine program.
Look at my review history, in general, I love Star Wars books.
Be More Yoda is a 60 page book with about 30 tips on how to be a better you, told through quotes and metaphors from our favorite galaxy far, far away. Each tip is paired with an image and quote from a movie (Original Trilogy, Prequels, Rogue One, The Force Awakens, and The Last Jedi are included). The tips themselves aren't Death Star shattering, but are a good reminder of the kinds of things we should do to be better people.
I would suggest you seek out a copy at a local book seller and flip through it, before deciding if its worth buying. Unfortunately, the Look Inside doesn't actually show you any of the tips, so you can't see what you are getting.
Some decent photos and appealing DK layout don't really conceal that this is a very brief book. No matter how slow and mindful you are when reading it, it will hardly take 10mins. The advice from Yoda (amongst others) is reasonable enough, and fairly obvious, probably reworded from Confucius or some such ancient philosopher. However, this is somewhat diluted by flippant Star Wars references that don't really make the reader laugh, yet waylay the reader from the point being made. I think only about 3 pages really hit home with any substance to me, and even then, nothing too profound. Looks good though. 3.25/5
This clever, creative, nerdy book outlines mindfulness practices using elements of the Star Wars universe, old movies and new, creating an engaging and fun introduction. I would have loved a book like this when I introduced mindfulness practices to my fourth and fifth grade students. I'm definitely purchasing a copy for my classroom.
Since the book was a short one my strategy was to read a pair of pages each day and try to apply the daily principle into my life. And of course being a fan of Star Wars I really enjoyed the references to the movies and how you can apply these principles into your daily life, whether its mindfulness, focus, bettering yourself or being more patient. A good book for improving self care.
This was actually pretty good! It gives some good advice and it does it all while making funny references to things in Star Wars. (That one joke about Kylo Ren's high waisted pants XD) I even had a couple members of my family read it after me, just for the laughs :) Now time to find Be More Vader!
Found this one when I was picking up my library hold the other day, easy quick read...probably more fun for its intended YA audience, but I got a smile and laugh too. Mindfulness with examples through the Star Wars lens.
This is a brilliant short read that intertwines Star Wars and mindfulness. It’s a great reminder to live in the present and to focus on bettering yourself and your thoughts.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to any Star Wars fan.
