**Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the ARC in exchange for an honest review**
3,5🌟🌟🌟!!! The storyline was well written!! It was really a heartwarming, sweet read, although sometimes it was too predictable for me!! Despite that I really enjoyed it!!
Colt is the oldest son born into a ranching family, he takes his responsibility for caring for his brothers and the livestock very serious. Unable to turn his back on anyone who needs help, Colton finds himself falling in love quickly with his neighbor. His neighbor, Misty, has trouble following her and brings it to Colt’s doorstep. A handsome, strong, animal lover who will fight for his love and protect her and hers until he can’t fight anymore. He fell head over heels for Misty and cannot wait to make her his.
Misty has a tons of trouble that shes unaware of, only after death strikes her family twice does she give into Colt and come stay with him. Reaching rock bottom, Misty pulls herself together and finds a way to get back into the work force, society, and falling in love with Colt. Misty is young, inexperienced, and trying to mom to her brother. Working her way into the Dalton family proves to be a little rougher than she expected, her family name works against her and makes many people doubt her.
Hot Target Cowboy is a very quick paced novel that has murder, secrets, romance and some spice. The plot has a few twist and turns but is easy to follow along with; the characters are well developed and relatable. Some readers could find the comments between Misty and Colt a little cheesy, but it does make for a sweet romance. The suspense seems like true small town suspense gone wrong. This novel could easily be recommended for someone who likes a tame romance based on suspense and family.
Colt Garrett is known around this part of Texas as a wealthy, well known rancher. And he's been hit with an overwhelming need to be with Misty Dalton. So she may be younger than him but there is just something about the girl that hit him square in the heart.
The only problem is that pain seems to be following Misty and her little brother wherever they go and Big Jim, Colt's father doesn't like it one bit. He feels like Misty is playing his son and if he has anything to do with it, he'll make sure she doesn't get her claws into his first born son's flesh.
But Big Jim is wrong. Misty doesn't even know if Colt likes her like that. All she's concerned about is how she's going to survive taking care of her little brother and herself after all the tragedy that has come in her path the past few days.
If you love Insta-Love stories, you'll love Hot Target Cowboy. Intertwined with a who done it story line, this was an enjoyable quick read. I loved the interaction with the family and how Colt looked out for Misty from the start. It was by first read from June Faver and I'll be sure to pick up the rest of the books in the series although the books can be read as standalones.
Hot Target Cowboy by June Faver Dark Horse Cowboys #1
Colton Garrett and Misty Dalton star in the first book of this series as Misty falls on hard times and Colton steps in to ease her situation. Misty and her younger brother are holding on by the skin of their teeth as she cares for her dying father and deals with her older less than responsible brother. When her brother is killed, her farm may be lost and murders begin to take place there is more than romance on the mind of Misty as she finds safe haven under Colton’s wing. Of course there are nay sayers and problems but this story ends happily for most of those involved. There is a sense of family, caring, community and doing the right thing that runs throughout this book and I expect it will continue as the series unfolds. There is a bit of church and religion in the book – just a heads up for those who might want to know. I am hoping that the editors will pick up that O+ is NOT the universal donor but O- is….
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the ARC – This is my honest review.
I really enjoyed the first book so I was looking forward to the continuation of the series.
Unfortunately, I was not a fan of this book. I tried, I really did. But I was rolling my eyes when the couple had sex on the first day they met.
My biggest issue was Misty. She's a freaking moron. Here's my problem...***SPOILERS BELOW***
Misty went to school to be a librarian right? OK.
She had to drop out because of her father failing health. Yup, sure.
Her brother does this whole creepy foreshadowing of his own death (not a spoiler, happens early in the book) along with a warning she tells the sheriff about BUT when she finds a weapon and hidden photos while cleaning out her late brothers bedroom AND the photos include a boy who went missing around the time they were taken....and this chick doesn't put ANY of that together. ugh. Has she never read a mystery before?
Filing this heroine under To Stupid To Live.
There were some good points but not enough for me to recommend this book to anyone. Sorry. I'll read the next book cause I like Beau but I won't be rushing out to get it.
I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
This cowboy romance is a gripping read that warms the heart. Colt and Misty are strong characters that easily enthrall readers with their sweet romance which grips emotions and has them empathizing with the heroine when she faced with a deadly threat and heartache. The chemistry between Colt and Misty sizzles with desire and passion and Colt takes on the protective knight when he comes to Misty’s aid which makes readers pulse pound in excitement.
The story has quite a bit of emotional turmoil as Colt must face his family and their opinions while helping Misty with her troubles and the steady faced plot is full of suspenseful events and some excitement as danger stalks Misty and her family. Some of the dialogue between Colt and Misty is a little on the cheesy side and while Misty’s characters is strong, she’s a bit too naïve. Overall, the author has created an intriguing family atmosphere that catches readers’ attention and ensures that they want to get to know the whole family and this romance is a heart-warming read.
“Hot Target Cowboy” is a fast-paced romance with twists, turns, and danger that will keep you on your toes. At times, the romance between Misty and Colt feels fast as well, but we did meet them in the first story of this series… so maybe not as fast as it appears. Besides, when you know you’ve found the one, you just know.
Trouble seems to follow Misty and her family around like an unwanted stalker and it’s not long before her world falls apart. Colt is right there to hold the pieces together until she can stand on her own again… or stand with him.
There are dangers and unseen enemies to be dealt with before this couple can find a happy ending. I enjoyed stepping back into this world again. If you can believe in a fast falling in love and watching two people find their way to each other through a mess of trouble, then you’d enjoy this story.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
Hot Target Cowboy (Dark Horse Cowboys #2) by June Faver 3.5 stars M/F Romance, Mystery Triggers: Murder, attempted murder, kidnapping I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.
While this is the second book in the series, I believe you could read them as standalone books.
Colt is the oldest brother and doesn't really believe that he'll find someone to love. He is looked up to by his brothers and despite wanting to find his forever person, feels that the ranch takes up a lot of his time.
Then you have Misty. Growing up with an alcoholic dad and an older brother who liked to run with the wrong crowd, Misty has tried her very best to keep it all away from her youngest brother. Despite starting college on a full ride, when her dad got sick, she dropped everything to come back home and take care of the family. I liked that she was willing to do whatever for her family, but thought also that she was incredibly spineless at times too. In my head, if you're taking care of your grown father, bailing out your older brother and making sure that your younger brother is attending school, you'd be able to do more than what Misty shows she can handle. It was somewhat confusing.
Colt is dependable and a knight in shining armor for both Misty and her brother. He knows what he wants and he wants Misty. I think the other issue I had for this story was Colt's dad. He thought that Misty wasn't right for his son, but it was never truly portrayed that he came around. One day, it just seemed that he did and that was that.
The drama and angst in this story was plentiful and I enjoyed the mystery aspect a lot. I think that if Misty's character had been stronger and more developed, this would have been a much stronger story, but overall, I did enjoy it.
A gorgeous, rich, hard-working, kind and compassionate cowboy, literally bumps into a damsel in distress and it is love at first sight. Romance and a murder mystery with an intriguing plot written in a riveting narrative. Characters are skillfully developed and engaging.
This is the first book that I have read from this author, missing the first book in the series, but the author quickly catches up the reader in the first chapter. Colton Garrett is the oldest son the Garrett boys. He works hard, saved his money and despite all the women who have thrown themselves at him, has never at twenty-eight meet anyone who he would want to make his wife, until he crashes into Misty Dalton at the auction barn and is immediately smitten. While both Colton's father and Misty's father were ranch owners, who had buried their wives and had had to raise their children on their own, Big Jim Garrett had step up, while Arnold Dalton had turned to alcohol. Now Arnold was dying and the Daltons are about to lose their ranch. But something is a foot, and after Misty's brother, Joe is murdered and her father dies later that night, Colton brings Misty and her young brother, Mark to the Garrett ranch. Colton's father and younger brother, Beau accuse Misty of being a gold digger, but Colton knows what his heart knows and will protect her and Mark as more mysteries, murders and mayhem occur.
I received a free, advanced copy of this wonderful book from NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
Hot Target Cowboy is the first book I have read written by June Faver. It is the second book in the Garrett Brothers Series but I had no problem following the story line. This is a cowboy knight out to save a damsel story.
Much of the story line is interesting with suspense, mystery, romance, drama and family. Colt Garrett and Misty Dalton have contrasting family. Besides the financial differences there is also differences in the dynamics of the relationships within. It is an instant attraction, soon love romance. In many ways Colt and Misty fit. Colt is a take charge man and Misty is a woman who lets him do just that.
I prefer stronger female leads in stories than Misty. Much is said about her trying to keep everything going on the family ranch but I saw little of what she could actually do. More development of her character with a sense of strength would have help me to enjoy the story much more.
3.5 Stars An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the second book in this series by this author. This is a nice romance story with added drama and mystery thrown into the mix. I really loved the characters, they have fab chemistry between them. This is a good contemporary romance read. this book will keep a hold of you and keep you reading till the end. I can't wait to read more in this series and by this author again in the future.
This book was very much a damsel in distress read with a sexy cowboy coming to her rescue to save her and her family farm. Was it love at first sight or does Colt just like to help others? This is book two of the Dark Horse Cowboys Series but the first one for me and the first book by this author. I enjoyed the story but felt it could have gone deeper into the characters and I also felt the characters and the story were not very relatable to real life sometimes. There was a bit of a mystery that was interesting but could have been better. I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
He first ran into her at the auction barn, literally ran into her and almost knocked her down. He being Colton Garrett. Unfortunately Misty Dalton was at this auction because her family had to sell their horses. Her father was terminally ill and unable to keep up with the ranch and her brother Joe wasn't much help. They had to sell the horses because they desparately needed the money. They were probably going to lose the ranch and Misty didn't know what would happen to her family. It would take a miracle... or Colton Garrett to come to the rescue.
Colton didn't remember ever seeing the beauty he ran into at the auction barn even though she insisted he knew her. Wow! Maybe it was "love at first sight" which he had laughed at when his brother declared it had happened to him. Colton couldn't stop thinking about Misty. Turns out he had a chance to be her "knight in shining armor" when tragedy struck. Their story is one you will want to read.
Hot Target Cowboy by June Faver is book #2 in her Dark Horse Cowboys series. The first book in the series introduced the three Garrett brothers and featured middle brother Tyler who is a budding country and western singer, a great read. Colton's story is another well-written story with lots of romance and suspense. Things haven't been going well for the Daltons and the storyline includes an old mystery disappearance and people getting shot and killed. The plot runs smoothly and the author treats her readers to very likeable characters. This is a super page-turner.
Nice romance with a bit of drama and a mystery thrown in. Lots of dead bodies keep showing up and it is not too hard to figure out who is behind this after a bit.
Sometimes it is nice to have a love at first sight story without the interference of an ex or a family member! I kept waiting for Big Jim to try and buy off Misty but he resisted getting involved and finally came around.
The only reason I did not give this a five star was Misty was just a bit too sweet and a little "damsel in distress" but I could see her slowly grow as she got her first job and build a little courage.
I had not read the first book with Leah and Tyler but that sounds like an interesting story and would like to read their romance. Hope Beau will meet his match and see what his brothers have!
Cole Garrett is the oldest brother in the Garrett family. His family owns a huge ranch that borders the Dalton Ranch. The Daltons have hit on hard times and Misty Dalton has come back to town to take care of her younger brother and the ranch after devastating circumstances occur. Cole sees Misty and the two develop a relationship that grows with each problem and situation that Misty must take care of. Two strong and likable characters make this a sweet and interesting story. A good addition to the contemporary romance genre.
Hot Target Cowboy by June Faver will be available January 1, 2019 from Sourcebooks Casablanca. An egalley of this book was made available by the publisher in exchange for a honest review.
Colt is the oldest son on the Garrett Ranch. Born and bred a rancher. One day he goes to look at some horses and sees a beautiful woman walk by him. She knows him, but he cannot pinpoint who she is. Thankfully, his brother, Beau, knows who she is and what's her name. That evening, he comes across the same girl, Misty, in a bar and gets her to dance with him. He knows she is the one for him while Misty believes Colt is too good for her.
As the book progresses, Misty's father and older brother die. She is left with just her younger brother. Colt to the rescue again when he takes the two of them home with him. Too bad his father doesn't like or trust her.
Wanna know what happens next? Does this story have a happily ever after?
One click this book to find out.
This is my first book by this author. It can be read on its own.
Colt falls hard and fast for Misty Dalton. A woman a couple years younger than him.
She has come upon some very hard times and is trying to sort it out. Colt knows he wants her by his side so he is willing to go well above and beyond to help her. This books was very suspenseful.
I loved about 90% of this book but I had such a hard time dealing with Colt's dad and brothers attitude towards Misty. I'm not rich so maybe I don't understand the whole "everyone is a gold digger" mentality but it really bothered me. It definitely added to the story but I can't recall ever wanting to throat punch someone so badly.
I especially loved that even though Misty's world is being turned upside down, she is still very warm and kind.
While Hot Target Cowboy is the second book in the Dark Horse Cowboy series, it's the first book I've read in that series, as well as the first book I've read by its author, June Faver. Enough details about the plot of the first book in the series were mentioned, so that it worked just fine as a standalone read, and while it wasn't a great read, it wasn't a bad read either, and it gets 3 stars from this reader.
This series is centered around the Garrett family. Big Jim Garrett and his sons own and operate a large, prosperous ranching operation. His eldest son is Colton, whose brother Ty, a country western singer was featured is the first book in this series, and who youngest brother, Beau, will probably be featured in the next. We first meet Colton as he's arriving late to meet his father at a stock auction, where a very pretty, wide-eyed, dark-haired, leggy young woman catches his eye, and he starts following her, surprised that in their small community, he has no idea who she is--but she knows who he is. Beau informs him that she's Misty Dalton, age 22, 6 years Colton's junior, daughter of a neighboring rancher, and then it's both insta-lust and insta-love, at least for Colton, and since neither of these two tropes really thrill me, this is where I began to take issue with this novel.
Misty's family, the Daltons, fell on hard times after the death of Misty's mother, an event that led their once hard-working father to lose himself in the bottle, and caused Misty to drop out of college to care for her ailing father and try to raise her two brothers, Joe and Mark. Now, her father is dying and in hospice, she's nursed him as best she could for the past 2 years. Brother Joe is supposed to be running their ranch, but couldn't care less, and the bank is set to foreclose on the Dalton Ranch for nonpayment, and, following her father's instructions, Misty is selling off their horses and some of their cattle at the auction, hoping to make enough money to stop the foreclosure and save the ranch.
When Joe is found murdered in his car on the same night that Misty's father dies, Colton steps in and takes Misty and her youngest brother, Mark, to stay at the Garrett ranch, a move that doesn't set well with Big Jim, or Colton's brother, Beau, both of whom look down on Misty and assume she's just a gold-digger from a poor family, trying to get her hooks into Colton, heir to the wealthy Garrett ranch. Leah, married to Ty Garrett, is living at the Garrett ranch while her husband is on tour and while their dream home is being built on ranch property. She is quick to befriend Misty, remembering here own cold shoulder when first introduced to Big Jim, and to defend her when Big Jim and Beau are rude and obnoxious to her, always thinking the worst.
While I found myself liking handsome, good-hearted, kind Colton, for coming to Misty and Mark's rescue, and taking 12-year-old Mark under his wing, it was Misty that I found myself having problems with. At 22 years of age, Misty is just too clueless to be believed, she's never had a a bank account or checking account, is so clueless about finding a job that Leah gets her a job working as her replacement at the office of a local lawyer. She also seemed clueless about the workings of the Dalton ranch, its size, its holdings, or its worth. As ranching families go, she grew up on one, and her ignorance and naivety just didn't make sense. I couldn't accept that she had been away at college for 2 years and still had no idea how to handle money, but did manage to lose her virginity somewhere along the way, and was quick to climb into bed with Colton without really knowing him. The few times these two characters did have sex, it was pretty mundane and far from steamy. Their relationship seemed to be built on Colton's admiration of her looks, his protective nature, his lust, and little else. They certainly didn't really ever have a meaningful conversation or learn much about each other. As far as romance goes, theirs simply didn't work for me.
What did work for me was that this all-too-quick romance, turned into a pretty good murder mystery/suspense novel, with plenty of suspects and plenty of clues. The murder of Misty's brother. Joe, and attempts made on the life of Paco, an old man who'd worked for the Dalton's since before Misty was born, the disappearance many years ago of one of Joe's running buddies, Joe's secretive nature before he was murdered, the elusive bank president, who lies to Garrett and runs away rather than let Garrett get the Dalton ranch out of foreclosure, and eventually, Misty's abduction kept this story moving along and kept me interested until the HEA ending.
As I stated at the outset, this wasn't a bad read, it simply needed more in the way of character development, especially for Misty, who's thoughts and behavior made her seem more like a teenager than a grown woman. I would have also appreciated seeing some depth to her relationship with Colton, and some understanding of why he was so taken with this childlike damsel in distress. All in all, I preferred the mystery/suspense aspect of this novel far more than the inexplicable romance between its main characters. It's not badly written, it was just in need of some depth.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.
Enjoyed the book until I got to the paragraph where you stated Oklahoma State University in Norman Ok (that's like saying Texas Tech is in Austin) you just insulted pretty much every Sooner and Cowboy fan. Oklahoma State University is in Stillwater and Oklahoma University is in Norman Ok
I'm convinced after the 2nd book that I'm just not a fan of this author's writing style. It's choppy and just doesn't read at the same level I'd expect from a mass paperback novel author (and say "Oh, Colt" one more time...so annoying and very historical romance or Darla from the Little Rascals-like).
But perhaps the biggest problem with this book is that the author made Misty (and a lot of other characters, including an attorney) come out as airheads who are completely clueless. I just lost all respect for the entire cast of characters at that point since none of them seemed to have any common sense or education based on their obliviousness. It's just really hard to get past that. Had I been watching a horror movie, this would be the equivalent of the stereotypical white girl running into obvious danger.
Colton & Misty seem to fall in love immediately upon meeting too. I'm usually okay with the insta-love some romances include, but in this one, it seemed a bit far-fetched. They slept together the first night they met and somehow that turned into love. They spend a lot of time together under less than ideal circumstances. So I guess that was also an issue I had since it didn't really give them a good idea for how they'd be as a couple when life was normal and people weren't being killed off around them. This book also focused way more on the suspense than the romance, which was a letdown.
Big Jim (Colt's dad) was a jerk for a good chunk of this book. He was incredibly judgmental of Misty simply because of her last name and the fact that her older brother was a troublemaker and her dad was an alcoholic that ran his family ranch into the ground. He does come around, but it didn't help improve my impression of him.
I'll read the next book simply because I don't like leaving a series unfinished (plus, it's sitting on my shelf).
I quite enjoyed this book as i love a good romance and i have a bit of a weakness for stories about Texas and cowboys.I found the mystery element of the story intriguing and kept me turning the pages.I liked Colt as the lead character,he has a big heart which he isn t afraid to wear on his sleeve.I also liked his brothers and Big Jim his domineering but proud Dad who resides over his family like a protective lion.Sister in law Leah is warm and spirited. The one character i could not take to was Misty. She is beyond dim and naive.Despite growing up on a farm she has no idea of how many head of cattle they own or the general running of the property. At 22 years old she has never owned a bank card and is clueless about depositing a paycheck. But the worse of all was how 3/4 way through the book she professes to have no clue about how Colt feels about her?For the love of god the man took her and her brother in after her losing both her father and brother. He then bought her family home, paying off the debt and effectively saving her from bankruptcy and total financial ruin. How thick was she?The man is a saint and for the life of me i couldn't see what attracted him to her, apart from the fact she was a pretty young thing. In a total contradiction Misty had no hesitation is jumping into bed with him the first night they met which made her character a bit confusing. She was obviously more worldly from how she acted at times.Despite my dislike of Misty i thought it was a good read and would like to read the next book which focuses on his brother Beau,a character i did like. The little town of Royal sounds like a charming place to live and i look forward to spending more time there with the rest of the Garrett family
This book is book two in the Dark Horse Cowboy series. Reading the previous book isn’t necessary as the author provides enough back story for the reader to be able to follow and understand the plot of the book. If the reader hasn’t read any of June Faver’s books, let me say that her books are sweet and romantic. The sex scenes are short, but that’s ok in my opinion, because her books move fast, are entertaining, and are just so good.
I was lucky enough to read the first book in this series about the youngest Garrett brother, and now I get to read about the oldest Garrett brother Colt. I love that the reader gets to revisit with previous characters and catch up with them, and find out what’s going on in their lives since the last book. I like revisiting characters, especially ones that I like.
Her stories are based in the south, Texas to be exact, where men are gentleman, and the food is plentiful and delicious. I love food almost as much as I love romance.
Colt and Misty’s relationship stated off a little rocky, but they managed to keep their relationship a float and thriving despite obstacles set in their way. I love that Ms Faver allows her characters to have insurmountable obstacles hurtled at them, but because their relationships are based on true love, they make it through their tough times stronger than ever and even more in love. I don’t see very many relationships last anymore, so I love it when true love lasts in the book world.
Take a chance on this series; take a chance on this author. Her books are a great way to spend an afternoon reading about love.
I liked the concept of this story and felt that there was a lot of potential but the characters were fairly one dimensional and often didn't things that didn't make sense for the character background. I felt almost no connection to any of the characters
Misty was the main problem; the best ways for me to describe her is a helpless drip. For someone who is meant to have been intelligent enough to have gotten a full ride scholarship, she seems incapable of thinking for herself or putting basic things together. Having spent years looking after her dad and brothers, she can't cook and didn't seems to do anything else; once taken in by the Garrett's, Misty takes little notice of her brother leaving others to take care of him,
Cult - seemed to stay true to his motivation but to protect and care for his helpless little women or 'baby' as he took to calling Misty. I found it ironic that having promised to keep no secrets from each other he got annoyed at Misty for 'keeping secrets', ie not telling him her every thought, but happily didn't tell her that he wasn't able to complete his take at the bank because 'he didn't want to worry her'.
I also found the dad really annoying. I can get that he though she was a gold digger but then do be annoyed when she gets a job!
I personally won't be reading more of this series.
I received a copy of this book for free from Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.
This was very much a rescue a damsel in distress book. Colt is from a prominent family in the community and there has been a clear path laid out for him. For the most part, I liked Colt. He wanted to save Misty and her little brother from the moment he met them and knew they were in danger. There was plenty of action through the book.
I had issues with Misty. She is a sweet girl but sometimes I just wanted to scream at her to use her brain. She couldn't seem to work through an issue other than how to keep money away from her brother, without help. She was young so I am going to say I just didn't relate well to the character. I had major issues with Colt's father though. He was just rude.
Overall, it was a 3/5 for me.
Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book (via netgalley). I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
This author is relatively new and this is the second book from her that I have read (second in this series as well). I loved the first book and this book I think, topped the first one. The characters that she has created for her series are so realistic. The series revolves around the Garretts. Most of the prior characters play nice sized roles in this book as well. I appreciate that as they are like old friends that you don't want to lose touch with. Seeing the continuation of their stories just helps to ground you into the current story.
She has put in enough suspense that it will keep you glued to your e-reader. The plot was wonderful and flowed smoothly. I was able to picture the action just like it was a movie playing in my mind. I was totally enraptured with this story right from the beginning. I can't wait for more stories. I have fallen in love with the Garretts.
This book started out as a romance but then turned into a murder mystery book along the way. Sometimes it would go back to a romance, but then the next scene there would be another murder. Colt was falling for Misty and when the story opens with him buying some of their horses he gives Misty’s younger brother a job on his ranch to take care of his horse that he bought. This brings Colt and Misty closer together, but not soon after is when her older brother is killed. Now is when the whole murder mystery part of the story begins and as much as you want the two of them to have a romance they have a murder, his father who does not like her, and a few other issues. I liked the characters and I did like the way the author ended the story. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 3 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com
In HOT TARGET COWBOY, author June Faver takes us back to Texas and the Garret compound. Here, we get to know the oldest Garret boy, Colt. Built like is dad and the heart of a teddy bear, Colt Garret falls hard for Misty Dalton. In true June Faver fashion, the heroine comes with problems she's determined to work out herself but doesn't mind a strong hero for company along the way.
When Misty Dalton is in danger of losing her family ranch, such as it is, Colt Garret smells a rat and steps up to lend a hand until he can figure out who or what is the evil trying to run her and her younger brother, Mark, off their precious land.
I fell in love with Colt the moment he strode through the auction barn. Join Colt, Misty and the rest of the Garret family for another installment of the Dark Horse Cowboys.
This was not for me. The writing didn't really flow as well as I would have liked it to, and the romance between Colton and Misty happens very quickly. I'm normally okay with insta-lust, but he's had like 2 conversations with her, and he's going to marry her? A little much for me. Misty's character was strange. She went to college, and had to drop out, but then seems like she doesn't understand how normal things work. Checking account, or handling money seem too hard for her. A 22 year old should know these things. I didn't realize that the suspense part was going to be such a big part of this book. It was better, in my opinion, than the romance. Although this was a first for me from this author, I would read her again. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
This book is about Colton Garrett he is the oldest brother. He accepts his responsibilities. He knows his future is tied to the land his father owned. He ends up falling for the younger sister of one of his brother’s friends Misty Dalton.
Misty Dalton is plagued with holding together a family plagued with problems since her mother passed away. Her family starts receiving threats which turn deadly. Misty turns to Colt for help. Colt decides that if anybody wants to hurt Misty they would have to go through him. She ends up staying with Colt as he is helping her. They were a cute couple but there weren’t any really spicy moments together. This was a cute story.
