Trust on Life Support: A Novel about the Life of a Female Corrections Officer

Rate this book
Becoming a corrections officer and working behind the walls of a maximum security male prison is grueling, especially for a female, because she can be lulled into a false sense of security and become swayed by the flattering remarks of both the male prisoners and the male officers. This is somewhat like the calm before the storm. In this fictional narrative, retired corrections officer Ajut writes about her personal experiences as a female officer. Discover, as she did, that the male prisoners and male officers are one and the same. Both the male prisoner and officer were flagrant in their attempts to violate a womans sense of self-worth. Behind the wall its a mans world. In this world, there is a relentless competition going on over who will be the first to break her in or break her down. The only differences between these two men are the color of their uniforms.

I received this book for free from Goodreads Giveaway's.

I really liked this. I am surprised that it doesn't have more reviews on Goodreads. Of course this is coming from someone who won this book over 3 years ago and is just now reading it. It kept my interest all the way through and was very informative. My only problem was I couldn't figure out if it was fiction or nonfiction. I thought it was a memoir and then I saw on the back of the book, in small print, it says fiction. Well it seems like nonfiction, and I enjoyed it either way.

Thank you Ajut for sending your book to me as a goodreads winner. This story takes you into the life of
a female corrections officer. This could not be easy as they are treated different then the men. Very interesting read. Who will break her first, the prisoners or fellow workers?

****I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway.****

This book is incredibly well written. I don't know if I was expecting anything from the author or the book, I just know it sounded interesting. The author was a corrections officer in men's and women's prisons and she tells us the reality behind those prison walls, not only for the prisoners but also for the CO's. It was a bit heartbreaking to read some parts, like how the prisoners' girlfriends or wives would smuggle things in or out via their children. The author didn't lecture or anything. She told it as it is, as she saw these events unfold. She kept her personal feelings out of it all, which I found incredibly strong of her. Based on the things she'd seen and experienced, I don't know how she kept those things out of her writing, but it's truly what made the book so good. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know what a day in prison would be like, especially as a woman surrounded by men.
