Division Chief Seraphine Thomas got knocked on her ass when a witch bespelled the people she cared for most to attack her. But a month later and she’s glad she listened to her best friend that it was well past time to focus on herself and build a better foundation for her life. And that’s why she’s testifying before Congress to make the vampire SWAT idea a reality.
It’s also the season for love, and as a new Alpha, she’s about to experience her first Valentine’s Day as a highly sought after woman. None of that matters to her and instead, she’s excited to start over with the men she loves. For the siren that’s never really dated, had a boyfriend, or done all the couple mushy stuff, she tries to embrace the wooing.
However, Sera can’t just have a personal life and the rest be put on hold. When there’s a shocking international incident, she’s pulled in as FBI, Alpha, and daughter of the Dorcuses, and that’s a lot of hats to wear at the same time.
Erin is a born Chicagoan who decided to state hop a bit, given she works from home. She currently resides in Georgia with her pup, Lord Vader Flynn. With an eclectic and addictive personality, there isn’t much that doesn’t interest her or she won’t pour herself into if it catches her fancy. She has always been interested in the darker aspects of life and mythologies—especially vampires, shifters, the occult, and anything paranormal.
To date, she has published more paranormal books than she can keep up with the characters for, in different genres with dedicated readers who await each release to her numerous series under any of the three Flynn names she writes.
This book is really difficult for me to review. The previous book definitely dealt with abuse and I understood where she stood on her men. However she always takes it to the extreme. She pushed them away and isolated herself. The human Brian always seems to have a way in and I don't completely understand. They all have hurt her in a way but she has hurt them too. Why haven't the men take a stand and tell her to stop pushing them away? There really wasn't anything of her job in this one. There is also no clear line on her roles. She has so many bags to put on that I am getting mixed up on who where and when.
I am having a difficult time with the men and I think it's because of the lack of depth on the relationships. I feel like she plays them like a deck of cards. Oh this one hurt me and is not dealing with the issues like I want them too he is out. Oh there is this new man let me keep him. I don't see her putting in any effort on having any meaningful relationships. She is always complaining about them and how they make her feel well what about them. I have been reading these in order without any breaks and honestly it's like I am reading the same book over again. I hope the next book changes because they seem to become redundant.
The only true relationship I see coming out is with Brian and that's a shame because those of men have some great qualities.
This book starts with the wind up to Valentine’s Day. Obviously it’s a big weekend at Siren’s Kiss, but it seems that all of Sera’s lovers are going all out to woo her in the manner to which she wants to become accustomed.
It’s nice hearing a bit more about Sera’s past, which we get in this book, and we hear that she’s never really been on a proper date and with the fall out from the spell cast on her lovers in the previous book, all her lovers want to spoil her by dating her slowly and proving their feelings for her, as she continues to create a foundation on which to deal with all her chaos.
Into all the romance is thrown problems with other packs, vampires and a paranormal coup in Iran. It seems that that Sera’s problem solving skills are essential in many situations.
It’s another good book in the series that I just can’t seem to stop reading. I do recommend it, but you need to start at the beginning, rather than jumping in with this book as the first one. It’s worth it!
Review of the Seraphine Thomas Series by Erin Flynn (Books 1–18) ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Overall)
I’ve officially read all 18 books in the Seraphine Thomas series - yes, all of them - so you don’t have to (but maybe you’ll want to). I’m a longtime fan of Erin Flynn’s writing. Her stories are creative, emotionally rich, and often addictive. There's always at least one character per series you end up rooting for, and her talent for immersive world-building is undeniable.
That said, my experience with this series has been a bit of a rollercoaster. Let’s break it down honestly - but respectfully.
🔥 The Positives: Compelling Worldbuilding: The supernatural FBI + polyamorous twist is unlike most in the genre. Think Forever meets Castle with a Vampire Diaries vibe.
Long-Term Character Arcs: The series spans a wide timeline and shows dedication to character growth (even if not always in a direction I enjoyed).
Addictive Early Books: Books 1–7 had me hooked. They had humor, high-stakes emotional drama, and solid pacing. These earned a solid 3.5/5 stars from me.
😬 Mixed Feelings & Constructive Critique: 1. Tone and Authorial Voice While the author’s writing style is generally engaging, I personally found some of the commentary in the closing author’s notes and certain narrative choices to feel more personal or opinionated than expected in fiction. I completely understand the need to address issues like piracy, but I believe there might be more neutral or inclusive ways to communicate those messages.
2. Relationship Complexity vs. Clarity This isn’t a typical “Why Choose” or Reverse Harem setup. It’s a deeply layered polyandrous dynamic - messy, intricate, and sometimes emotionally chaotic. If you're looking for straightforward bonding arcs, be prepared: the relationship development gets incredibly convoluted. Personally, I found the shifting dynamics between mates, sirened partners, consorts, and friends-with-benefits confusing as the series progressed. A glossary or relationship map might be helpful in future installments.
3. Character Fatigue By Book 18, I found myself struggling to connect with many of the characters - especially the main character, Sera. She starts off as a resilient, sharp, and likable FMC, but over time, her decisions and relationship management felt inconsistent or frustrating. The push-pull dynamic in her personal life, paired with very little progress in her supernatural education even 18 books in, made it difficult for me to continue rooting for her.
Many love interests were introduced with big emotional weight, only to fade into the background or disappear altogether. Some characters who were well-developed and emotionally resonant (like Dain or Tristan) seemed to get less closure or fair treatment than others who felt more peripheral. In contrast, some relationships dragged on without significant development or payoff.
4. Pacing & Structure Books 8–18 dropped to a 2.5/5 rating for me. The pacing slowed, and more focus seemed to shift toward commentary and expanding the cast rather than continuing the central storyline. Political and social themes started to feel more prominent than the core plot, which I found distracting from the fictional narrative I was invested in.
🧍♀️Sera Thomas (FMC): Early-series Sera was fantastic: witty, brave, emotionally complex, and vulnerable. I loved her journey through the early books. But as the series continued, her indecision, emotional volatility, and seeming lack of introspection made it harder to sympathize with her. She often reacted rather than reflected, and by Book 18, she felt less like a hero and more like a character stuck in loops.
💔 On the MMCs: Too many to list fully, but here are some key points:
Tristan: Felt unfairly treated by both the narrative and Sera. He brought a lot to the story emotionally and deserved more.
Dain: A standout for me. Loyal, strong, and emotionally available. Frustratingly underappreciated by Sera.
Brian, Riley, Hagan/Reagan: Relationships with these characters didn’t feel satisfying or necessary by the end.
Noah, Axel, Eugene, Jason: Struggled to leave a lasting impression. Some started strong but faded, others never quite clicked.
Carter: Felt like his storyline was mishandled. A simple conversation would have solved a lot.
Ari, Virgil, Lucca, etc.: Either forgotten or sidelined. At 18 books in, I’m struggling to remember who’s still important and who isn’t.
⚠️ Final Thoughts: This series started with a bang but has become increasingly complex - sometimes at the expense of clarity, pacing, and emotional payoff. I’d still recommend it to readers who enjoy dark paranormal romance with poly themes, complex emotions, and an ongoing world that spans dozens of characters.
But for me, the series may have reached its natural peak. I’m unsure whether I’ll continue with future books unless there’s a notable shift in focus and tone. Still, Erin Flynn’s creativity and dedication to her characters is commendable, and I hope future installments bring some much-needed resolution to long-standing arcs.
TL;DR: Started strong with a bold and complex heroine in a unique supernatural world. Became bloated with characters and unresolved plot threads. A frustrating but ambitious series worth reading - if you have patience.
4 Yes, Because A Bunny Strapped To A Drone Won't Draw Anyone's Attention Stars
Rebuilding the Wolf is eighth book in the Seraphine Thomas series by Erin R. Flynn.
I love that Flynn finally took us international with the supernatural politics. While it may have been such a short caper into the supernatural world outside of the US, it was a benefit to the growth of the story to at least catch a glimpse. I hope we see more of this, especially with the synopsis giving me the wrong conclusion in making me believe we would finally see Greece in person and in depth.
Sera brought the smackdown this book. Taking out or punishing those around her who would do damage to her stability as Alpha and protector. Those like Leda and Linus who received different understanding of her reign. Or the Director of the CIA that desperately deserved blowback for his disgusting views, much like the CPD trying to bust her on prostitution without any legs to stand on.
It is somewhat annoying that we never actually made it to New York. This is a powder keg that has been building since we first learned about it. This entire mess will be epic proportions of danger given how long the author has dragged out us showing up there.
While I enjoy the building romance and bonds between Sera and her men. I do wish there was a little less of the constant sex, and more information into the supernatural abilities and guidelines. That there is still so much we as readers are learning right alongside the MC so late in her journey is frustrating. It's like the sex aspect of her new life has pushed out all of the truly necessary information.
As this point she is courting Brian, Hagan, Reagan, Dain, Noah, Luca, Virgil, Carter, Axel, and Eugene. It's a little much if I'm being honest. I like how the author has so painstakingly shown the differences and intricacies of each relationship. The individual men have such varying backgrounds and personalities, it's never difficult to tell them all apart. That is invariably a win in the authors writing ability, in my opinion. I have read works where the author struggled to accomplish such a feat with only three men in the heroines life. I don't want to see any of these men removed from the story, but I do feel the lines are blurring and it will only become more difficult to juggle all of their relationships with the plot and progression.
I'm a little worried about what we learned from Jessica and Freddie regarding their opinions of the boys Sera has adopted. I know it was resolved in this work. But given this was a hidden issue nothing hinted at forming, I'm concerned there will be more unnecessary drama in this vein later.
Sometimes, i roll my eyes at a few things. Sera is very dramatic and childish at times. Do i wish the author would stop throwing things at her? Yes. It's almost like she can't "add" new men unless her old ones are in trouble or have done something wrong and hurt her. Why was she not aloud to take a leave of absence from work when she was first infected? Thats way things would be a lil more straight forward, as of right now it feels like the author is making it up as she goes. Like she doesnt know some law or old way of doing it.
Still kinda into the storyline to much to give up now.
Love this author and this series. I love it when I find authors who have series with more than three books so we get to experience more of the main character's life and who writes strong heroines who still have struggles like the average person (body image, flashbacks from trauma, feeling left behind or forgotten, not worth mattering ) just to name a few. This author does this so well, showing that you can be incredibly strong and also break sometimes and that's ok. As a survivor of abuse, that's inspiring and something we can always use more reminders of!
Ever since the first book I was hooked. But with each new addition I sink even deeper. Most of the time with each new book there is a repeat of events and reactions. But I love how every book we get more into Seraphine then the events around her. But I would like if the men would become more aware of her emotions and find a way to help her overcome them. But in all I love this series and I don't think that will change anytime soon.
I'm not usually a huge fan of MF stuff, but Ms. Flynn always delivers a superior story. No wimpy maiden in peril waiting for a big strong man to help her out. Instead you get complex, strong, damaged female protagonists who excell at rescuing everyone else while still being feminine. I highly recommend this book and this series. I also recommend her other series in both the MF and MM genres.
I adore this series! I know some people don't like how the relationships are going right now (almost in reverse) but I really like that after all the stupid stuff these guys have done either willingly or unwilling that they are pretty much starting from the begining in order to actually build a strong foundation. It seems like with the main guys being on the back burner she can concentrate on making herself a stronger and better person!
Sera confronts a few of her childhood demons in this book. One is her ongoing issue with abandonment and the others well one is a real bogeyman. I like her response to terrorists just read their heart out. The whole book revolves around Valentine's day and the theme of spoiling your mate or significant other. It doesn't tri bean expensive gift just a thoughtful one
The only reason I did not go 5 stars is the steamy scenes are lacking I would rather have less of them than a rated pg version. That said the books so far have an exciting story line and are not at all monotonous which I love. Extreme praise for the author to not go with the modern flow of kidnapp and rape. I rarely recommend a good series but I will this one
I gladly review this series because it's VERY well written that it's impossible to put down 😃. Sera is a wonderful heroine who handles everything thrown at her by our wonderful writer 😄. There's plenty of action, unfortunately some reviews stated that there was too much sex, I truly don't, I REALLY love the sexy scenes and wish there was more 😋. Thanks again Erin, I truly LOVE this series and can't wait to read more 🤓.
Wow Seraphine’s life is always so busy! She is now taking it slow with the loves of her life and r building after that whole debacle in the last book. Watching her grow as a woman, a wolf and a siren is amazing. As well as watching her men grow in the it relationship with her as well. Can’t wait for the next one.
I honestly love these extra chapters!! Anyways.... Axel... damn. He finally admitted defeat!!!! I’m beyond excited. And now with Eugene damn I’m more curious but it makes me sad how Seraphine feels like her men are leaving her and she’s all alone. She’s surrounded by so many people but she feels even more lonely than ever. That really sucks.
I’ve said it before but these books are AMAZING. I absolutely cannot put them down.
These books are the perfect mix of naughty and entertaining. Never lingering to long on one set of emotions. They make you laugh and cry and pull you in so you can’t put them down.
But such a good distraction from real life! I love how she does not shy away from so many social, emotional, and psychological issues that surround trauma. I also love how she allows the characters to tackle real issues without making it all have to end up happily ever after.
Yay yay yay. Another awesome amazing book in this series. I love seeing my book friends. I really liked the action and the romance in this book. Thanks again Erin Flynn.
This was another great addition to the survey and Thomas series that I thoroughly enjoyed. I enjoyed learning new things about the main character and seeing all the characters grow, I can’t wait for the next book.
Just discovered Seraphine Thomas and wow, read the right books in two days. Can't wait for the next book in this series. Characters are lovely and engaging, dialogue snappy and plenty of action. Definitely recommend.
She is the best author i have read so far. Her stories a awesome I have PTSD and her main character has been amazing I would have drowned if it was me.She makes them so real I can relate thank you
This series is absolutely addicting from the first book and continues to hold your attention through all of the following books. I love the strong female lead working to make the world a better place
I love, love, love the Seraphine Thomas series and book eight was amazing. I’ve been waiting for the event of the next one so I’m starting it immediately. I highly recommend this book and series.
I really am enjoying these books but as alpha it seems infeasible that sera would allow her men to be with others ? I don’t know that’s the only part of the book I don’t get .
Sera phone Thomas, wolf by accident; caring by choice. Past that could make one bitter. Love the handling of topics. Smart, talented. I like her personality. Such interesting turns and twists. Love this series.
Sexy enthralling and fast paced. If you like reverse harem books and hot shifter antics then this is the book for you. Great story and interesting characters great read.
This is the 8th book in the series. It is very action packed and very well written. There is so much happening in each book, but it all flows together nicely.
