Set during America's Great Depression, Baker Mountain describes hard work and hard times when sixteen year old Gary Hill's life is turned upside down. While Gary tries to help his family, he learns of a secret that could destroy it all. Baker Mountain is entertaining, and although it might be considered a boy's adventure, the characters make it a good read for anyone, young or old.
Doyle Suit has written a book like I love to read. It is a shame that quality stories like this are hard to find. I wish more were available. I am having a difficult time finding good reads like this one. This past year there are only 4 that are this well written and none with a better character development. I could not put it down. Please write more cause I'm a major fan.
This book is a great contribution to American literature. It was a delightful read that took me to another time and place. Doyle Suit is a wonderful story teller who makes you feel as if you are actually in the book. It made me root for the good guy and cheer when his big plans work out. This book was a fairly easy read, so kids could easily get through it. Gary, the main character, shows us many examples of how hard work, careful planning and perseverance pay off - a theme that is relevant to all ages. I highly recommend this read for the whole family.
