Wicked Sinner is the 7th book in USA Today Bestselling Author, Carole Mortimer’s, all Amazon #1 Regency Sinners series.
Author’s Note: All the books in the very hot Regency Sinners series are complete and HEA stories. Books in the series are connected by the friendship of the heroes and their search for the traitor to the Crown. And did I mention they’re HOT?
When Nik’s own wife is the last of eight ladies suspected of treason, he knows he can delay no longer and has to investigate the accusation. After all, he is Dominik Sinclair, the Duke of Stonewell, and has long been an agent and spymaster for the Crown.
But he’ll carry out the investigation in his own way. A way that Angel knows well and will understand is not a game.
Angelique knows there is something seriously wrong with the marriage that began so promisingly three years ago. She still loves Nik as much as she ever did but his increasing coldness toward her over this past year seems to indicate he no longer feels the same way about her.
When he arrives unexpectedly at his estate in Kent, where Angelique has been residing with her mother since the end of the London Season, he is colder than he has ever been. Leading Angelique to the heart breaking conclusion their marriage is over and Nik must now have a mistress to cater to his darker, sexual appetites.
She denies it emphatically when Nik accuses her of treason, but her husband has his own ways and means of extracting information from her.
Usually on her knees.
There will be a Christmas Special to this series published in October, titled Wicked Christmas (Regency Sinners 8), and featuring all the heroes and heroines in the previous 7 books.

So, I was having a fabulous time reading this sexy novella until I reached a part during a love scene that made me go:
That for those who are interested is
OK, so aside from the above I did enjoy the story and would've rated this novella with 4 stars. There's a bit of BDSM but I've read a few novels with that and so this didn't bother me personally. The MC's did have awesome chemistry and were clearly besotted with each other. They're a couple who've been married for 3 yrs. The heroine's mother has framed her for treason so the H ( who is the spymaster for the Crown ) has to investigate his own wife. I felt sorry for both characters because the frame up was so good that the H couldn't blamed for thinking that his wife was guilty. The poor heroine kept thinking that he was accusing her of infidelity when he kept asking her about how she had betrayed him. The heroine's mother was a nasty, hateful bitch who disliked her daughter but sold her in marriage to the H for 20 000 pounds ! The heroine didn't even know that her mother had demanded that amount of money in order to give permission for the H to marry her since she'd been only 19 at the time. The good news is that the mother was hanged for treason ! And, the H grovelled a lot in the end. The heroine definitely made him beg for the way he had distrusted her.
Like I said, this novella could've been a 4 star story except for the little problem I had with that one sex scene. There was no cheating during the 6 months the MC's had been estranged. The H hadn't even felt attracted to any other woman even while he suspected his wife of treason.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

At best, I've only ever liked Carole Mortimer's writing and at worst, I find it bland. But I thought I'd try this one as my Goodreads friend Ivy H liked it, and I wanted to see if it would break my Mortimer "curse". (Read her review here.)
This erotic historical romance definitely fits into the bland category. The writing style veered towards telling vs. showing, so I didn't feel emotionally connected to the characters and narrative or find the sex scenes steamy. Descriptions of a "weeping" pussy and flowing "juices" leave me feeling more, er, dry than anything.
The kicker in all of this is that hero lived with and banged the heroine for three years(!), but never realized he'd loved her until he suspected her of treason and, therefore, might lose her to death by execution.
Final thought: I'll stick with this author's contemporary romances in the Harlequin Presents line when I try her again.
FINAL DECISION: My favorite of the series, this one works because of the existing relationship between the characters and the development of the heroine, which I enjoyed very much.
THE STORY: Dominik Sinclair, Duke of Stonewell and spymaster, has run out of suspects. In searching for the traitor, there is only one woman left -- his wife. Now he has returned to his estate to accuse his wife and find out her secrets. Angelique has known something is wrong as Nik has become distant in recent months. Now he demands her surrender to his passions and his suspicions.
OPINION: I really enjoyed this one. Nothing is too deep, but because the characters have a pre-existing relationship, things are more focused emotionally. The two have an adventurous sexual relationship. While the important moments in their relationship are explored through their sexual moments, this works better between the married couple.
Nik's suspicion of Angelique is in conflict of his feelings for her. (I do have to wonder about a spymaster who has so much that is happening without his knowledge). Angelique won't allow Nik to get away easy with his distrust. The power dynamic between these two was interesting in this book.
While short in length of the story, this couple worked the best for me. I liked their interactions and how the storyline helps develop their relationship. The story isn't a particularly deep one, but for someone who spent much of my early romance reading days devouring category romances, this one fits right in (if a lot more explicit in its sex scenes).
WORTH MENTIONING: There is going to be another wrap up book with all the characters from the series. Since we don't get to see the characters together enough, I'm happy for this.
CONNECTED BOOKS: WICKED SINNER is the seventh book in the Regency Sinner series. This romance is self-contained but there is an overarching storyline that runs through the series about a traitor. This book resolves that storyline.
I love the story of Angel and Nik!! They are my favorite! I was gifted this book by the amazing Author! That I won on Facebook! This was yet another wonderful and well written dialogue novel with lots of surprises and discovery.
This story/series ended with my favorite couple, that in order to know more about this beautiful and sexy couple, you have to read from the beginning. Not only was the story interesting, it also showed how love is so important for them. Nik is a gorgeous and serious Duke, strong character, orderly and loves to be in control. Angelique is a beautiful wife, sweet and submissive, who alows her mother to live with them, even though Nik doesn't like it. I loved everything about this story, and the steamy love scenes are really great!
Wicked Sinner, by Carole Mortimer. Alright let’s discuss this. Carole Mortimer is one of those tremendously talented writers that you sometimes do not hear about. I just so happened to stumble across one of her books a couple years and I was instantly hooked. Take for instance this current read. I am absolutely agog over Nik and Angel’s rather interesting marriage. Each time I read one of Carole’s amazing love stories, I get to enjoy the most exciting and delicious love stories. The stories are always good and Explicitly hot. If you love these type of romance novels then you will love Carole’s books. This story is absolutely adorable, but at the same time scandalously hot and who doesn’t love a little scandal and a lot of bed sport. There are times where the dialogue and narration was sizzling so much that I was sweating my self. I mean each naughty word that dripped from Nik drew me into the erotic scenes. His dialogue will leave you remembering his character years from now. What I found that was most adorable was later in the book at how a certain person bent himself backwards to make amends. Angel, Niks wife is a woman who I thought always held her head high. She fought for what was right. Angel didn’t want to appear to be a week person and she didn’t want to appear to be used by no one. Nik’s character left me to believe that he was just “randy”. He was always ready for a good romp with his wife. Look all I’m say is, if my husband turn his naked back to me and presents his Exquisite rump to me. Not only to salivate over, but he parts his legs to where I can see not only his member, but his large sac hanging. Hell naw I’m going to tell him to leave! We are going to have some fun first then I would tell him to get the hell out of my room. You ladies know what I’m talking about. This book is a page turner that I am glad that I didn’t pass up. I loved the storyline, the mystery and the true identity of friendship obviously contributed to the entertainment of the book. The writer pushed her creative writing and her characters to a new point that will have her readers wanting more from her. I give this book two snaps and a, Angel! Are you crazy?! He’s giving you an opening. Use those black ribbons girl! Until next time my fellow readers…read on!
If this had a longer and deeper, complicated grovel it would’ve gotten a 5-star from me. But the audacity of the hero thinking “can’t she understand my POV in those 6 months” when she had done NOTHING to show him she was capable of committing treason (she was, in fact VERY DEMURE — yes! — AND OBEDIENT, NO REASON WHATSOEVER FOR HIM TO DOUBT HER) lol go jump off River Thames demoNIK!
Loved this book!! Much like some of the other books in the series, it’s a little angsty for my taste. However, I enjoyed how Mortimer wrapped up the treason plot. A great read!
This is the climax (no pun intended) of the series and you will find out who sold the information to the French and betrayed the Crown and country and why. I must say that never in a million years would I have been able to predict the person in that reveal. Brilliant! As usual, the two main characters were really strong but they also had flaws which made them quite human. This story is very 'hot' so be prepared. The storyline is good and well written. It is fast paced, exciting, entertaining and has its happy and sad moments too. Even though it is part of a series it could be read as a stand-alone but if one read it in the order that it is written, I feel it would be far better. I loved this book and loved the rest of the series too so if you want a really great read you know what to do.
Loved the story. It is well written and entertaining. The sexual encounters between Nik and Angelique are very sensual and erotic in nature. There is a period of time when there is no sexual contact between because of suspicions Nik has about Angelique. Things work out in the end and there is a HEA but a lot happens before this comes about and a lot of it is unpleasant for the couple. The story is a great read and I would highly recommend it.
This was a very good read, once I started it I couldn’t put it down. There is the mystery of the identity of the spy to uncover as well as the strain that puts on the marriage of the Duke and Duchess of Stonewell, (Nik and Angelique). I liked the character of Angelique and how strong she became as the the story unfolded. I’m looking forward to the last in the series.
Carole Mortimer at her best. All that a book needs. Drama, passion intregue. love the connection with all the other storylines. Can't wait for the next and regrettably the last book.
Almost the end of this series. Spymaster must confront his treasonist wife! But is she guilty? find out in this wonderful story. Very sexy what you expect in a Carole Mortimer story.
No one should use the bedroom intimacies as a form of punishment when angry. Now, a wee bit as love games is a whole other matter. This was an avenue I wasn't expecting from Ms. Mortimer, but definitely worth the 4.5 🌟 stars. Hints of gentle bondage, definitely some steamy intimacy scenes, no cheating or cliffhanger and you get a happy ever after.
This is another great continuation of the series, that has a plot full of high emotion and intriguing surprises. The characters are portrayed wonderfully. This is a book that would suit all those that love steamy historical romances with plenty of twists and turns.
A good storyline and steamy sex, but the characters are a bit ridiculous. First of all, they are so effusive in both the dialogue and their internal musings that it borders on laughable at times. More frustrating though, is that their actions usually don’t match their feelings, they just don’t make sense as people. This one goes into the ‘almost really good’ category.
In the beginning of this, the hero's behavior bothered me. It's one of those things where he's hurt and angry and lashing out, and believes he must be cruel to get get to the truth or something, but I don't see how that was supposed to help at all, and he doesn't even really seem to be *trying* to get answers from her. So it's really just some sort of twisted revenge fantasy or something. I'm not really into it. The book even mentions that the bedroom games they've always played are very much based on trust, but then when he no longer trusts her at all, and he's not really in the mindset to act in a trustworthy manner himself... it's just not really a good time to bring that into their interactions. But I understand that this was all orchestrated by the author to incorporate some rougher play. I just wish it had been done in a way that held water better.
I really didn't expect the book to improve much from there. But it did actually. Starting about at the point when she passes out, it was all on the up and up. They're in a bizarre scenario, and the book does a good job expressing their complex and conflicting emotions. It was pretty engaging, and they grow as people as well as a couple. Which is pretty impressive really from a historical erotic novel.
2nd read- I maintain my previous stance. The hero crosses some significant lines in the first part, and there are some definite gaps in logic as well, but as a whole, it's still a pretty compelling story. I'm still amazed that I can move past the hero's earlier cruelty. He was definitely in the wrong, and I think it was taken too far really, but it's kind of a testament to the empathy of the writing later on that I'm not still despising him in the end. It's high drama, but not the sort that makes me want to roll my eyes. Ultimately the characters, and their relationship together, are all stronger by the end, and it feels like some solid resolution.
Erotic passages and do get sick of the swearing which I feel is at odds with the time period. Read it once as it is an ok read. Very formulaic. I much prefer her earlier Historical romance as I feel there are more story and content and still sexy.
I was so looking forward to this one because it’s been amped up for so long, but I feel like it fell flat? I did enjoy it but I just felt as if something was missing. Highly enjoyable however.
