Crosby Barbara Newell Bonsall, b. Jan. 2, 1921; d. Jan. 10, 1995 was an American artist and children's book author and illustrator. She wrote and illustrated more than 40 children's books.
Bonsall began writing and illustrating for juvenile readers after working for advertising firms.
Poor Homer. He wants someone to play with. He can't play with his identical quad sisters, Lolly, Molly, Polly, and Dolly, because they never want to play with him. And besides that, Homer isn't sure just what it is he wants to play, anyway. Duck doesn't want to play. Rabbit doesn't. Pig would play Piggle with Homer--the best game in the whole world, named after Pig--but he doesn't feel like it. Beans.
I love Bonsall's illustrations, and this story is just darn cute. This beginning reader would be terrific for introducing the concept of rhyme to a classroom of kiddos. Read it, then follow it up with a rousing game of Piggle.
