When all actions have repercussions, it isn't really a game.
Mallory's brother brings home the wrong game disc. His latest disaster doesn't surprise her one little bit. What does surprise her is being transported to a role-playing style world when they check out the plain black disc. When you're a noob in a world you don't understand, death is always imminent. They aren't sure if they want to leave Inadon, even if they can figure out a way to return home. But they do know they need to either get good or they're likely to learn what happens when a player runs out of revives.

It's a rather gentle young adult entry to a new series. And, some adults might find it a fun experience as well.

The story itself is very much part of the GameLit /RPGLit genre, and introduces the four characters - a sister-brother pair (Mallory, 17, and Brodie, 16), and two brothers (Ryan, 19, and Collum, 16) - to another world. I don't want to give away too much, but imagine suddenly finding yourselves in another place, carrying only the things you have on you (and missing some things you had!) and trying to survive.

As with the GameLit type books, there are scores for the players, and experience points, and choices to make. Like ripples on a pond, what we do affects others, and sometimes in unexpected ways. That is the main theme of this book - that what you do and the choices you make, it all counts! Taking moral shortcuts in games makes it easier to take moral shortcuts in life.

There were no major obstacles to overcome, but the players discovered this new world was remarkably dangerous, especially traveling alone. They had to not only to learn the rules, but they also had to survive each of their minor quests, trying to earn money and experience; they had to find food, and worry about a place to sleep in safety. Highly recommended. And if you know a young person into video games, share it with them.

I really liked this one, and I plan to read the next one in the series.
If you're looking for a good clean story with a group of friends getting into (and out of) trouble, and having great fun while doing so, this might just be the story you're hunting for. Sure it's a LitRPG story, but that won't matter while you're reading it, since it flows well even if you're not into the whole stats progression thing. I enjoyed this one, and expect I'll enjoy the next one as well.

Very well done

I had a great time with this pack of teens and their cross world adventure. Simple, fun, good dialogue and basic town quests made for a very enjoyable easy read. On to book 2
