Prodigal Son #1

Prodigal Son: Part One

Rate this book
Part One of Four:

Charlie Fox has a special role in the Lean Dogs MC, bouncing from chapter to chapter, doing the crazy, risky, deadly things the others can’t. Uncomplicated, unfeeling, unaffected…until now.

Fox’s ex, former MI5 agent Eden Adkins, does freelance PI work now, and she calls when her latest case turns up a familiar face: Fox’s father. Devin Green is in the kind of trouble it’s going to take all nine of his children to get him out of, all his dark secrets revealed along the way. Spies, secret agents, sketchy organizations, and resourceful Brits abound in book three of the Lean Dogs Legacy series.

PRODIGAL SON will be available in four parts throughout the summer, and in full this fall. Look for Part Two coming soon.

I swear one of these days I'm gonna give myself an ulcer.

I downloaded this precious gem of a book not reading the blurb. I started reading it, getting more and more pissed with each page.

Who the hell is this Eden chick? Why is Fox looking at her with love in his eyes? Do I detect... chemistry between them? He's married, for crissakes. What is wrong with Lauren Gilley? I mean, didn't we all loved him and MARRIED him to whatsername in The Skeleton King? What, is she going to start killing main characters next?

By the time I reached the middle of the book I was HULK pissed. Just to be sure, I checked The Skeleton King blurb once again and....

Oooooooooooops!

Wrong brother.

That was Walsh. This is Fox.

It's been a long time since I read the Dartmoor series.
And my brain is not getting any younger.
And there are NINE of them, it's not like I'm senile or something...

Anyhow, once I realized my error, I let myself enjoy the second half. I even went back to read the first half again.

It was so fun. My poor Lauren Gilley-deprived soul can start healing.

On to the next.

Charles William Fox. Fans of the Dartmoor and Lean Dogs Legacy series have salivated over his upcoming story and this one was like an addictive and tasty morsel! Appetizing and long anticipated but not enough to satiate the hunger! That said, it was still a wonderful treat to return to the MC life!

I had to read this short story twice to get past that nagging feeling of needing more from this author.

New characters were introduced, some old favorites were present or mentioned, and I was thrilled to finally meet the the elusive Devin Green!

▣ This story was unexpectedly short in length and that was a bit shocking, but I still look forward to reading the rest of Fox’s story. This author has a way of creating characters that I enjoy obsessing about!

Well, given that I detest serials with a passion (which is why I waited till all the parts were out .... and ended up waiting for-bloody-ever for the final part, but that's a whole other story), and given that there is zero romance so far I enjoyed this first part.

I get this is the English side of the Lean Dogs but man oh man! I miss Mercy and the boys ... big time.

Only part one....... boohoo. In one way I wish it hadn't been published till complete, but at the same time I appreciate that Ms Gilley has released at least this section. Cos we've been waiting so long for Fox's story.

Yep, Fox is a bad, bad boy. But Gilley's characters are so beautifully written. You can see their humanity and what makes them tick. This book, so far, is starting to unravel the mystery of Charlie Fox. And I just love these complex, fascinating characters.

So far this book feels different from the others in this series. It's set in London, for starters, although it may move to the states later in the book. Who knows? There have been sections of previous books that took place in London, so it's not unfamiliar. But we finally meet the infamous Devin Green, father of Phillip Calloway, Charlie, Walsh, Albie, Tommy, and four other illegitimate half-siblings. And to a greater or lesser degree, the children all hate their father, who pretty much abandoned them all. But now Devin is in trouble, and Charlie and the others are going to have to decide whether or not they will help their problematical old man.

We also meet the beautiful Eden. Charlie's ex. And there's a fascinating and complicated relationship that of course the reader hopes will come to a happy resolution. Again, Gilley unfolds these kinds of stories so well.

And the oh-so-intriguing Albie has also met a very interesting woman, which hopefully will develop into something :D

So now, I've finished Part 1. And Part 2's not out till June, damn it! :/

Whelp, this book looks just as good as the others, so far. But I would not recommend starting here. Gilley herself states up front, it's not a stand alone. You need to read at least some of the previous books to get what's really going on here. At least read my fav, Tastes Like Candy first, and see whether that doesn't hook you in. Or, better yet, read all of the Dartmoor and Lean Dogs books, and, like me and so many others, get happily addicted.

I am glad to be back with the Lean Dogs. I was a tad confused in the story. Is it about Fox or Albie? We seem to get more POV from Albie. Need more info on Fox’s past with Eden and I really don’t get why everyone hates Fox. Love Raven, she is the one that needs a book!

Want the next so I can get more info. I know it said it was coming out in parts. I may should have waited to read it altogether oh well.

Happy dance

Inside my head I'm clapping and jumping up and down with glee anytime there's a new Lean Dogs book. I'm so excited to read about Fox, aka Foxy, aka Charlie, aka yummy, he's my favorite London brother. It's short but lots of insight to Devin Greens brood and I can't wait for more. Lauren Gilley is my favorite author and an automatic buy for me. If you haven't read her books you are truly missing out.

I turn and it’s the last page. Fuuuuuuck. Finally back to the Lean Dogs world. 8 fantastic chapters. 63 delightful pages. And Charlie Fox, my favorite London brother. Happy Dance.

“Morning. Ready to die today?”

“I’m recording this. Maybe even sending it in to the Guinness Wold Record people. The day Charlie Fox finally snapped.”

Albie leaned both elbows on the edge of the desk. “So,” casual and careful, “can we agree that maybe you’re just a little bit worked up about all this?”
Fox poured another finger of whiskey and forced a jerky nod. His own body was betraying him for the first time in his life; he couldn’t deny it anymore: he was… having emotions.

So. I can already tell this is going to be one of my favorites. That is all.
