Kenny Johnson’s life takes a bad turn when his parents and fiance’ are killed in a wagon accident. As the oldest of five, he feels it’s his responsibility to take care of his younger siblings. With the threat of Civil War looming, he decides to leave Kentucky and take them with him west, on the Oregon Trail. Callie Fisher didn’t want to leave her home and friends in North Carolina, but her Mama and Papa left her no choice. She’ll go with them, but she’ll make sure they know how miserable and angry she is about their decision the whole way there. Kenny and Callie find they get along well and strike up a quick friendship on the trail. The two families find they travel well and enjoy spending time together, except when Callie is giving her parents a hard time. Kenny warns her repeatedly about her behavior. Callie isn’t too worried about his warnings, until she pushes him too far, and ends up over his knee and then married to him. Can the two get to know each other and turn a friendship into a loving marriage?
I will never understand the need for a good story to be so sexually graphic. But even more disturbing is the part where the husband spanks his wife if she does something he feels she shouldn't. I get that these things may have happened in those days but I sure do not wish to read about it. I didn't even bother to finish reading to the end.
The Johnson family are in Kentucky and worried about the upcoming War. Kenny Johnson has decided to move with his fiance to Oregon as soon as they are married. That night, his parents are escorting her home, when the spokes in a wagon wheel break causing their wagon to go down a ravine. All are killed.
Heartbroken, Kenny Johnson, as head of the family decides to take all of his siblings to Oregon for a fresh start away from the upcoming War. His sister Lily is engaged and will remain in Kentucky with their grandparents.
Once on the trial, they become friends with the Fisher family - a couple and their daughter. They left North Carolina, but their daughter Callie is upset about the journey. She pouts, argues, and is in a bad mood all the time. Kenny thinks the answer is to spank the attitude out of her. Callie's father agrees, but warns Kenny that if he spanks her, to expect to marry her that day.
Kenny talks to Callie and over time they become friends, but she is still mean to her parents. Finally, he has had enough and spanks her. The minister is ready when they come out of the wagon.
This is a page-turning adventure of the Oregon Trail, and a nice introduction to the series.
Married on the Trail is book 1 of the series by Bethany Hauck. I enjoyed reading this book. I loved the characters and the storyline. Wagon Train stories are my favorite. This is the beginning of the series about the Johnson family. Kenny and Callie falling in love. Read it you'll enjoy it too.
This is a tale of the Johnson and the Fisher families and their wagon train trip to the Willamette Valley in Oregon. These two families start out as two and end up as one big family. You will enjoy going along with them on their trail. The good times and the not so good ones too and maybe find a little love too.
