When gods and immortals still ruled the ancient world, one young goddess risked everything for love.
He smoothed his palm over his hair. "Tell me what you want me to do, Annani." She blushed. "I want you to kiss me." "What?" He almost choked on his own saliva. Annani glanced at him from under lowered lashes. "I have never been kissed." His eyes went straight to her mouth. Fates, those lips were made for kissing, and it was a crime that they had never been. By him. "I cannot." Her blush deepened, and she lowered her head. He hooked a finger under her chin, lifting her head back up. "But you can. I cannot refuse the princess." Technically, he had to obey her commands. He would not be breaking any laws, written or implied, if he let her kiss him. Annani smiled, her tiny fangs gleaming white. Fates, how he wished to feel her bite on his skin. Would she be as wild and as ferocious as he imagined? "You are too tall for me to reach. If I am to kiss you, you need to sit down." His butt dropped on the bench before she finished her sentence. Annani approached him with the sinuous fluidity of a seductress, not an innocent girl of seventeen summers who had never been kissed. She sat on his lap and wrapped her arms around his neck, her eyes hooded with desire and blazing blue-green light. "I think this will work." Pulling on his neck, she brought his head down. The moment she touched her sweet lips to his, in a kiss that was almost chaste, he became lightheaded, probably because all the blood in his body rushed down into his manhood. She lifted her lips and smiled. "I do not know what I am doing, but apparently it is working." The girl needed him to show her how it was done. "Command me to kiss you." Her eyes widening, it took her a moment before understanding dawned. "Khiann son of Navohn, I command you to kiss me."

Up to this point I have read all of the books in the series. A great read every time. I gave the prequel a four star rating because it was taking a little too long to get to the meat of the story for my tastes. But in retrospect, when you're starting at the beginning of a story you may have to start off slowly in order to build up to the climax. I did like the backstroke...North, the Odus, the families and acquaintances of Annani and Khiann, etc. This gave me a few "aha" moments. I'm looking forward to "Goddess' Hope". Who would I recommend this book to? Why anyone who has the patience to read a series. You do get lost in it. I really enjoyed it even though towards the end there was a Kian rather than a Khiann mentioned. Was this a foretelling? Thank you.
I decided to read this because the reviews were positive....and it was free. Thank goodness because if I had paid for this, I would be livid! I could barely finish the book. I kept thinking, "who the heck cares?" This is not a book for grown up paranormal fantasy fans. If you've enjoyed BDB, Dragon Kin, the Pride series or something comparable, you'll be disappointed. The characters are childish, without any depth or internal strife, and there is no buildup or anticipation whatsoever. It's like the whole plot is based on a child's simple way of seeing the world. "I want it, so I'll easily have it." Even if this book is geared towards a more innocent audience (which I honestly don't know what it's marketed as), I found the writing lackluster. Again, I could not bring myself to care about these characters in the slightest. I like a lot of YA authors -Richelle Mead, Sarah J Mass, Chloe Neill- but this author is nowhere near the level of great storytelling as others in the genre.
This Prequel was absolutely enlightening. Ahn is ruler of the gods, immortals and humans no one was higher than Ahn and his queen Nai. there was a pact made with Mortdh Ahn's nephew that he would marry his first daughter to entwine the families but Mortdh is greedy he wants to be supreme ruler over all. Annani is the first born daughter but her heart was gentle and she loved Khiann. I loved the telling of how Ahn and Nai fought to give Annani her true heart's mate. They were willing to give up much to make their child's happiness come to fruition. Khiann is a tradesman son and travels with him often. When he is presented at court Annani gets up to trouble with her maid and best friend Gulan sneaking out to meet with Khiann. Gulan spends allot of time with khiann's best friend Esag and as she guards Annani, Esag decides to train her to fight witch in the end causes Gulan heartbreak because as with Annani Esag is contracted to marry another so while the dates send Annani her true heart's mate Dylan's is fasted to be broken. This was a breathtakingly beautiful story of friendship, love, hardships greed and loss.
I feel bad giving it 2 stars as it isn’t necessarily a bad book. It is consistent in what it is...it just isn’t really my jam.
If you want an easy read that doesn’t have much going on except the slow developing relationship between one couple, and a side story of another couple then you might like this. It has a few hints at an actual plot beyond these two potential couples, but not much. There was nothing that really got me excited or invested.
Also, it could have just been me, but I felt like the alien technologies just didn’t mesh with the story. Of course, I’m not really into modern or futuristic things while reading so I wouldn’t necessarily blame the author for that.
I don’t know. I really wanted to love it, since it’s so highly rated and reviewed! I feel like a bad person because it just fell flat for me.
Oh! One thing that kind of bothered me as I read was the constant reminder of how small and childlike the MC was. Once or twice would have been ok....but the constant reminder made it feel a little pedo-ish. Just weirded me out. She could be petite, especially in contrast to his large stature, without being childlike.
I liked it! It wasn’t bad at all! At times I found her acting kind of childish, but I had to remind myself that she was still very young. But all in all it was a very interesting beginning. It held my interest from beginning to end. I’m very interested to see how everything will work out in the next book. Morthd has got to go! Guy is no good at all! Plus I need to find out what’s going to happen to Gulan. Like come on I need to know she is going to get her happy ending! So on to the next one!!
Loved this book. Was glad to have a lot of history cleared up. Couldn't put it down read this in two days. Can't wait for the next prequel. Would've liked to read the prequels first. These people are really good and I can see why a threat looms from mordth and it's starting to make sense why there was only one God left. Can't wait for the next...
I am so surprised by this book. I really thought i would not like it as i am not really a fan of Annani throughout this series but boy did this book take me by force.
I love this backstory of what happened to the old gods and it threw in so many surprises and new characters that i fell in love with. I am sad i know what will be the outcome but it certainly is a thrilling ride.
When I started The Children of the Gods series, "Dark Stranger: The Dream" was listed as book #1. At some point in the series, "Goddess's Choice" and "Goddess's Hope" were added as #1 and #2, respectively, with a note somewhere in there to read "Goddess's Choice" before reading book #20, and to read "Goddess's Hope" before reading book #30.
I've gotten to book #20, so I'm heeding the suggestion.
If you are like me and started with "Dark Stranger: The Dream," then you already know what has happened with Annani, Khiann and Mortdh. So, reading with that in mind, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak, and that added an excitement to the book. This book also answers some of the questions that are brought up in later books (like the origin of Annani's kind, and that of the Odus).
I enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to reading "Goddess's Hope" and getting more answers as well as more insight into the gods and immortals.
If this is your first book, prepare to become addicted!
As a political solution, Goddess Princess Annani was affianced and ignored by the widely reviled god of the north, Mortdh. But as soon as she came of age, Annan uses the law to test Khiann’s waters, a god her eye and heart have been fixed on since childhood, she has to know if she’s right about Khiann being her true love.
Mortdh’s been too busy creating an army to overthrown Annani’s father to take the kingdom by force and wed Annani to give him legitimacy. Irritated that Annani’s derailed his plans, Mortdh accepts an illegitimate daughter, Aereana, to humiliate while soothing his wounded pride and concocts his next plan.
Patience was the name of the game for this outing to my taste, as the characters were younger and more clueless than this reader generally gravitates to and the pacing/story slower than I’d like. But this is a new to me author, a layered foundation prologue covering mythology, gods, immortals and humans in a very prolific series. Rating: 3.5stars
I have read more than 70 books in this series The Children of the Gods by I.T. Lucas. I have enjoyed each and every one. Creative concept: the gods of myth were real, have origins other than Earth, and their decedents are living in the modern world. Maybe, your coworker or next-door neighbor is a decedent; especially, if he/she is extremely beautiful, oozes sex appeal, stronger than most others, intellectual, usually with at least one paranormal gift, and other desirable traits. Some of these decedents with the "god gene" need to be "activated" by other currently activate descendants sexually for females and a fight for males. Of course, these decedents are hiding in plain sight from a host of villains. Fun read. Sometimes erotic; therefore, not recommended for children. I highly recommend for the adult reader.
In this book we see Annani as a young girl who is infatuated with Khiann while her servant, Gulan, has feelings for Khiann’s servant, Esag. Annani and Khiann immediately realise that they are fated mates. Esag has strong feelings for Gulan but is betrothed to someone he can’t stand but, for the sake of his family, has no choice but to Join with her. Meantime, Mortdh has caught wind of the fact that Annani is breaking their Betrothal and is furious. There is no way he is going to be placated. Strong emotions altogether! It is recommended that this book be read before Dark Survivor but I would go so far as to say that it wouldn’t hurt to read it as a prequel to the whole series. I have to say that I think we all know who Wonder is!
I've seen the series, Children of the Gods advertised. Seen the recommendations for it and yet, for some reason, I have no idea why I hadn't started it. I've read the teaser and reviews and have to say, I feel like I'm at an advantage with starting this one first. I feel like I got to see the beginning when it happened rather than reading about it after it was over. Since I'm a HUGE fan of magic and mythology, this was a win - win in my mind. I thought it flowed well, the characters were sometimes larger than life, which in my mind is a must for gods and goddesses, and had all the danger and suspense, love and turmoil to keep me on the edge of my seat. Now I know I must continue with this series to see what happens next.
Goddess ''s Choice is book 1 of I.T. Lucas The Children of the Gods Origins series. I most admit I've read every book in The Children of the Gods series before i read this book. That's 35 books as of today. Having read them in that order has given me great appreciation for Annini and Khainn. Their love story is beautiful. The world building by Mrs Lucas is amazing. Her imagination seems to know no bounds. The book series would make a fantastical movie, actually a series of movies. Her creationism and character building is beyond anything or anyone I've ever encountered. I've read thousands of books from many different genres and nothing has grabbed a hold of my imagination like these 2 series. I anxiously await each new book.
I really enjoyed this book, it's not my usual lore that I read. I tend to go more towards fairies, wolves, witches etc but this was a refreshing change. I thought the characters were decently developed, and the love story was very cute. I like that the love story wasn't the only thing going on in the story. We see how the author is working in the main issue in the background - so I am interested to see what's going to happen for the future of the realm. The only reason I am not giving it a 5 star review because I wasn't "gaga" over the story like "omg this is the best thing I ever read" it didn't give me all the feels. The proofreading was good which was fantastic, lately every author has some issues with that but this one took their time. I will definitely continue reading the series.
I have read through Book 60 now in the Children of the Gods series. Every time someone has told Annanni's story, the story of love, of Mordth and the demise of the gods I wished there was a book about! I wanted to hear the whole story from Annanni's and Khiann's perspective! To meet Gulan (Wonder) as she was then. To see the other gods that have been mentioned. I wanted that story in my mind as I follow the series so when one of Annanni's descendants told the story again I had a better understanding and appreciation for it! I was not disappointed! Beautifully written and well thought out book, and characters! Cant wait to read Book 2!
I loved this book. It was a much-needed addition to the children of God’s series. The tidbits of the history of these people That is revealed was in the other books certainly fell short to what we are starting to learn in these stories of Annani’s life as a princess And history of what happened before her people were wiped out. As always though, I hate the abrupt ending in massive cliffhangers that these books provide, Especially when the next one is not out yet! I can’t wait for the next in this series!
Do not let the drag first few chapters deter you from reading this book. I’ve learned that not to kick a book out just because the first few chapters are dry or overly descriptive. But knowing how many books are in this series & popular that there was just more than. Boy was I correct. Dealing with gods, immortals and humans there are many many characters and with that, vivid details. Once I got into the book and developing characters I was unable to put the book down. Now onto book 2.
I’m glad I finally decided to go back and read the books on how it all began. I always wondered about Khiann and his nature and I always felt like Annani hid a lot about her past from Kian and her other children. I don’t know why though.
Anyway, it was good to see what kind of person he was, and also Gulan/Wonder. It was also good to see the reasoning behind Esag’s proposal as well. I think the next book gives us insight into Areana, which I am also looking for way to.
See my notes and highlights on Goodreads. Happy reading!
This is my second time reading this 2 book series and it's much better the second time around. I've read all 85 in this series as well as the other off shoot peripheral series and I have to say this is my favorite series of books I've read in my life time After reading 85 books and going back this books makes much more sense to me now and puts much into perspective. My wish is the books were released faster and my hope is that a TV series will be made out of this someday!
Exciting introduction to what promised to be a terrific series. Great new take on Gods & Immortals, and the author built a unique world that is sure to keep me interested.
Annani & Kiann are attracted to one another but initially believe nothing can come of it. They work together to overcome the obstacles.
The book leaves off on a bit of a cliffhanger, as this is the beginning of a series.
After reading over thirty of the the Children of The Gods novels, each including an "adult" Annani, it was interesting to read Goddess's Choice and see I. T. Lucas's vision of the teenage Annani, one on the verge of adulthood. She still has that spark however, it has not been dimmed by sorrow or death. In addition, she is just falling in love with Khiann so th future is shining brightly ahead. It is a joyous time, and this novel reflects that mood!
I was not aware these existed until after reading the series. It was wonderful to find them while waiting for the next one to come out. Even with knowing what transpired from the other books, it was nice to read this prequel. Helps to place the future events more squarely in my understanding. Such a talented writer, such an incredible imagination to have created such an expansive universe. Thank you.
I started The Dark Strangers series before I found there was 2 books to read before and this one did not disappoint. Annani is a strong-headed princess to the most powerful family. Her father promised her to her uncles son, who is a horrible man, and not what she wants. Then her eyes fall on Khiann and all the feels come back. Love this story & love the way these books are written.
I really enjoyed Annani & Kihan's story so much already prior to Annani's story finally coming out as Her Own. Instead of her just being a Goddess or even "CLAN MOTHER!" Its very cool to see how everything plays out.. I can't wait for the next book in Annani's story it will be very interesting...
I have read all the books in this series and I have loved all of them. I loved that we got a peek into the early life of the goddess I only have a bone to pick: that is not fair to make us wait that long for the rest of her story, rant done. But in all fairness next month we get to see Anandor's story looking forward to it should be great.
It was nice to actually read the prequel. I’m such a fan of this series it was good to get the background of the Mother Goddess. Now I wait with bated breath for the complete story. Having heard it second hand through the series, I can’t wait to hear the full story of Annani. Hurry!
I’m so happy to finally read about Annani’s past. It not only helps but it is her love and strength that kept her going. I’m just not ready to see you live end in tragedy which we know will but as the saying goes “it is better to have love and lost then to not have loved at all”.
