So Spy Girl - no surprise, given the title - adheres pretty closely to the axioms of the 007-type of spy novel. Pretty much the only difference is that the protagonist is a much younger, much hipper 007. Huntley Von Allister is one of those begrudgingly perfect heroines who has survived an unfortunate childhood to become obscenely wealthy, outrageously fashionable, an excellent markswoman and a deadly assassin. Plus, she has a penchant for driving fast luxury cars, well, really fast. The exact circumstances of her childhood that lead up to this point are shrouded in mystery - not just from her but from the reader as well. Personally, I had hoped to have learned more about her past by the end of the first novel but if anything I was left with more questions than answers. By the second novel the plot really got interesting but that past - of which all those who know aren’t talking - was no more revealed than it was in the first book. Frustrating…. Don’t get me wrong, if you’re looking to fuel your spy fantasy - the one in which you (as the heroine) are an insanely rich tabloid darling who always gets the guy, saves the day and (SPOILER ALERT!) become knighted - this book is for you.
