Declan Forrester is arrogant, selfish, and insanely sexy.
He was the very first boy I ever loved.
Then fame and fortune turned him into a man I no longer recognized.
I tried to give him everything he needed, and in return...
he broke my heart.

Now he’s back, and he wants to make things right.
What started as love turned to hate.
I told myself I’d never fall for him again, but he’s determined to prove me wrong.

He wants to win me.
He wants to own me.
He wants to defile me.

And if I’m not careful...
I just might let him.

Update: I went and finished just so I can say nothing made it better, it got worse and the heroine became an even bigger push over and the hero did absolutely nothing that redeemed himself in my eyes. I dont need a book to be completely safe, I have an open mind but the journey to forgiveness just didnt work for me on any level in terms of what he did, he just got a pass bc he is hot.

DNF @70%

Spoilers, this book is not safe at all safety readers!

Sounded interesting but of course the heroine is practically celibate while the hero gets some well into 50% of the book with random women in alleys/hotels BUT its ok bc he can't remember it sometimes or hes sad, boo hoo poor man isnt forgiven right away for being a cheating scumbag, how dare she not forgive him immediately?! Oh and funny stuff he is trying to prove to the heroine he has changed in this time, lol, even though that behavior is the exact reason he broke them in the first place, he's a cheater and the entire first half of the book is him blaming her for leaving him, how is that romance??? He even writes a song about what a bitch she is for leaving him after she walks in on a threesome!!!

Also just a note to the author when you write scenes with other women and the hero make sure when he has sex with the heroine it doesn't sound exactly the same. He spoke filthy to the other women and was the exact same with the heroine, an example:

Him with other women
“Oh yeah. Fuck yeah, baby. Your pussy’s so goddamn tight.” (heroine saw and heard this when she walked in)

“Tell me something, gorgeous. You ever had nine inches of pure rock god shoved down your throat?”

“That’s right, baby. Suck it hard. Take all of it. I know you can do it.” (heroine saw and heard this right after she saw him after 10 yrs later but he's changed LOL)

Him with heroine
“Fuck, baby. Fuck! Pussy fits me like a goddamn glove.”

“Yeah, baby. Just like that. God, such a good girl,”

Why do authors do this? I don't mind him being filthy or alpha but there is no real difference in how he was with her compared to them. I need him to be different with her, and he treated her sexually almost the exact way he was sleeping with those women so its gross and its not romance especially when all she is allowed to have is a best male friend who tells her straight to her face he isnt attracted to her, but he is the one used to make the hero jealous even though she isnt allowed to have sex with him or anyone else. I hate the double standard, it infuriates me at this point. Authors are automatically going on my do not read list if they do this because I am over it. There was barely any emotional buildup to him trying to earn her forgiveness, just a bunch of dirty talk she couldnt resist bc of course we women just can't resist the good looking men who treat us like trash, one touch and who cares what he did??? Ugh.

5 stars for the appropriate title.

I just don’t understand some female romance writers. Usually I kind of roll my eyes but secretly enjoy the KA-ness of JP’s usual plots with her bedazzled and frazzled heroines and chin-lifting heroes "babe". Channel away I say now after reading this pile of bull scatalogy. Thank you General Schwarkoff!

Anyhoo, this heroine is a big, bad hair blowing in the wind villainess because she cavalierly abandoned her rock and roll beau after seeing him, SEEING HIM, in a coke induced threesome. She’s a traitorous witch for leaving and breaking their unbreakable vow. Somewhere Voldemort smirks.

The H is furious because she abandoned him and never let him make up the fact he had a threesome. How dare she? They were soul mates. It wasn’t his fault he cheated repeatedly, it was the drugs. It’s apparent that AA’s Twelve Steps are not going to be much use here as it will always be the long-term celibate heroine’s fault rather than the drinking and swinging rocker's.

Ten years later, after a slew of I hate you because you’re mean songs from the California sober H, another sighting of him being serviced by some sweet thing in an alley (yes this is giving me all the four star feels too you lying ARC reviewers) and they are in love again.

Oops, someone did it again.

The one bright spot was when the h’s huge and enraged father stomps in and wants to do some damage on what is really the fault of it all, the hero.

yeah... he cheated with two girls while he was high on drugs and h wanted to surprise him but walks in on him, uh, you know... "finishing".

during the separation, he was a ho and did not try and win the h over, even writing hate songs about her.

first time h sees him after 10 years of separation, she hears him getting a bj.

OH! and when they start talking to each other, he sleeps with OW.

Another if Jessica Prince writes it I love it moments. Gah. I am so glad I’m not into safe. I live for angst and overcoming Man Whore ism. It’s a real affliction. Full review to follow.

Full Review

Safe readers need not apply. But let me say this to you...You miss SO many amazing stories of love conquering all by playing it "safe" life isn't safe. It's dirty, nasty, gritty, choices get made that have consequences that are felt way after the buzz settles. This is one reason I love reading all stories. It reminds me that love can come out of pain, that you can rise even when the bottom is ripped out from under you. Your strength tested over and over and still you stand. Amazing. Strong. And better than you were before. This story was a testament of all those things and like every Jessica Prince book I have read..I loved it!

Declan and Tatum were first loves that were destined to be forever right out of the gates but life has a funny way of creating havoc in well laid plans. The ride was worth every single stomach flip. I can't wait for the next ansty, beautiful, funny, love filled story that Ms. Prince releases.

This story has been told many times before.
Rock star gets involved with fame, drugs and women and ends up cheating.
Our heroine catches him in the act, but he is so stoned he does not even notice anything.
The couple separate.
She hates him and he feels abandoned ... blames her. Poor rock star!
He does hate songs and she is the muse.
Years go by... 10 years
They meet again.
Some drama happens and both resume the relationship.
Love is in the air!
The end.

"I've been yours since you pulled up on that bike when you were seven years old and kicked me in the shin for insulting you."

Check out the big goobery grin on my face. That’s my “holy crap did I love that book and I can’t wait for more” smile. I just finished Defile. I read it in one sitting—not even getting up for a cup of coffee. It was that fantastic.

Declan and Tatum have been best friends since they were seven years old. They were friends then lovers then over . . . and in the ten years they’ve been separated, neither of them got over the other.

Declan is determined to win Tate’s heart again—to prove that he’s staying around, that he’s worthy of her love, that he’s worthy of her. And he’s trying so damn hard. So hard. And he’s trying to not repeat the past, but, man, he’s just a typical man. LOL

And Tate’s just as determined to keep Deck away, still in love with him or not—he’s broken her heart once, he’ll most likely do it again. She’s got trust issues. Big ones when it comes to Deck. She’s tried to push him out of her heart and her head, but he’s found his way back in.

And Fate has a funny way of intervening. And maybe, just maybe, with age comes wisdom and they’ll figure out their happily ever after. But it’s going to take some serious work by them both—they need to invest in their relationship. And it’s so much fun to watch them screw up and make-up, because make-up sex is off the charts hot, am I right? Well, it is for Deck and Tate! *eye brow waggle*

I loved how Declan and Tatum worked their way back to each other. Worked as adults with some life experience and knowledge of what and who they are as people, not just kids in love. I adored the dynamic between the band and Tate too. I cannot wait for Killian and Gwen’s story next! ~ Missy, 4.5 stars

My thoughts:
Not bad. I liked the writing and looking forward to reading more by Jessica Prince. The reason I read this one was for the angsty trope. More specifically, that particular scene readers spoil in the reviews. That scene didn't disappoint. All the juicy angstiness. I had a visceral reaction, an adrenaline rush. I felt for the heroine, Tate, in that moment. It was heartbreaking. My only gripe about that was that I wish there had been a confrontation. Instead, Tate fled, followed by a 10 year separation. There's no conversation about it or any grovel until Tate and Declan (hero) reconnect a decade later. That was a letdown but not a deal breaker. I normally don't read books with such a long separation but I didn't know until I was reading it and by that point, I needed to know what would happen next.

The anticipation pretty much died not long after they met up again. Another letdown, but that has to do with personal preferences. Nevertheless, the book was well written and I found Tate very likable. Declan was a bit much. His reaction to being left by the h was to blame her for not giving him a chance to explain, "to fix it." Explain being caught in a threesome? How do you fix that? He was completely absurd. Instead of suffering in shame and regret for all those years, he wrote her hate-filled songs. Then suddenly 10 years later, as soon as they see eachother again, he's in her face and aggressively forcing her to give him a chance. If it wasn't for the heroine, I'd be rating this book less. I LOVED how she handled him; it was highly entertaining. However, if I'm honest, I'll admit I'm being generous because of the cheating trope. I know how much hate these books get over it and I want to help offset that. Readers should just stick to the tropes they enjoy. At least go in with an open mind. Why CHOOSE to read about something you're 100% against or disgusted by just so you can condemn the author for it? Makes no sense. Also, who rates books they didn't even read? Bonkers.

"'My Crimson'
'My storm on the horizon'"

This book is a standalone that is also a part of Civil Corruption series. Bringing us the story of Tate and Declan, it has everything we love: second chance romance, friends to lovers, angst, fun, sexiness and sooo much love.

"Burning with passion, the intensity cuts like a knife
like the blood through ny veins
My Crimson gives me life
I'm tangled and twisted in her, content to live in my chains
Without her passion and soul, only a shell of me remains"

This book was incredible, and every book I read by Jessica Prince, I love her writing more and more.

The plot was solid and involving. The "couldn't-put-it-down-ness" was off the charts. I was so in love with all the characters, feeling every fear and pain they had, understanding their battles and arguments, I felt like I was really living it. I forgot about my life to live theirs.

And one of the things I think it's amazing about her books is that, even if it's something I can't accept, even if it's a hard limit for me (and, trying not to spoiler, there is this huge point where the book centers that I would totally despise), the way she writes it, they way she gives us, it turns the thing not black and white anymore. It's not that now it is okay and I'm on board. But it's that now I can understand and even forgive, because there are biiger and greater things at game now (you need to read to understand what I'm saying).

"'And this,' I continued, gently placing my palm between her breasts, right above her heart. 'This is mine too. I broke it once before, but I swear to God, baby. I'll never do it again'"

Declan and Tate were everything. They were the goal-couple, the one you wished that was real. They were best friends, they were partners, they were completely in love, they had huuuge arguments, but that didn't kill the love they had for each other.

It was that love that has been existing forever, they loved each other forlonger in their lives than when they hadn't known each other.

"I've been yours since you pulled up on that bike when you were seven years old and kicked me in the shin for insulting you"

They faced a lot of battles. They were put at risk and on the spot so many times. Their world shattered ann swirled to the point that they were afraid there was to turning back.

But the beautiful thing is, sometimes, no matter what life brings your way, no matter your mistakes, no matter how long you go without your loved one. When it's write, when it's meant to be, when you decide your love is bigger than everything else, love always find a way back...in every way.

"I'm her storm on the horizon, swirling blue and gray. I complete her, as she completes me. In every way"

***5 ‘Crimson & Storm’ Stars***

So, I did the whole “I’ll just take a peak” thing this morning and...well...I kinda devoured the book.
Like the entire thing.
Done.
And it’s not a BAD thing per se, but you know...I had that workthing to do, so…

But once I start Defile, putting it down wasn’t an option. From start to finish Declan and Tatum’s story was addicting. I mean if you want the ALL the feels, this book has them all. You’ll sigh and swoon, you’re panties will melt, you’ll want to pull your hair out in frustration, but you won’t be able to stop reading and find out if they can find their HEA in the end.

Hands down, as much as I loved Declan and Tatum, they drove me batshit crazy (which is what I said about Garrett & Gwen in my review for Corrupt ~ I’m pretty sure I’ll say that about the couple in the next book...but for now back to Declan and Tatum). Declan is all kinds of alpha AF male who loves hard and deep, but also has blinders on and doesn’t always see past how he thinks things should be. Tatum is sassy and spunky and has been from a young age. She marches to the beat of her own drum and isn’t afraid to stand up for herself, but when it comes to shaking the boat, one on which she is also riding on, things get a little muddled.

Their second chance journey was a rough and complicated one because of how long they’d been friends and then lovers before everything went to hell in a handbasket. There is a lot of angsty-ness that goes on, but what made it work was that they still loved each other, even when they didn’t want to. But in the end they figured things out and I love where they were at in the end.

I have to give props to the author for how she planned Declan and Tatum’s story out because I think it was done perfectly, well...okay, that’s pretty damn obvious since I devoured it, but there were any number of ways it could have been started and I think the one she choose was the best. It gave a solid foundation for them and why they needed to be together. As for the rest of the CC crew. Ian, I adore, hands down. And I loved catching up with Gwen, Garrett and Liddy. Killian and Mason were definitely fun and interesting and I cannot wait to get my hands on their books!

Friends to lovers to enemies to lovers...

I hate the H with all my heart. He made many mistakes but in the end he thought that the heroine had to stay with him no matter what, because she promised. What an as@#le !
I did not like how the author put the blame on the hero' s agent. I saw that in the first book of the series and also in this one. That guy only facilitate some things but the hero made the decisions himself.

I love Jessica Prince books.
Her books are well written, have huge gut wrenching scenes, hilarious scenes and fantastic banter in a close group of friends.

This book is all the reasons I don't read Rock star romances.

They split up after she sees him in bed with two other women and snorting coke.
There are things going on that lead to that moment and possibly some may feel will excuse his behaviour but the thing that I hate and makes it hard for me to feel he will commit to the heroine and her alone is when they reconnect and she is back in his life, through the band, he is still having random hook ups. It's at almost 50% of the book and he is getting rid of 'some blonde' the morning after.
I can accept a Hero/ heroine makes mistakes, even in the right circumstances or enough proof of redemption, cheating but when the heroine meets the Hero or in this case is back in his life I don't like him with other women esp in front of her.

At the point that scene happens they are not back together and he's angry with her but still he has a scene a bit earlier with a different other woman and the heroine is so hurt.

Are we honestly supposed to believe that our 'Hero' will now commit to our heroine and never stray again?
I know there is more to the initial cheating than it appears but still not much time has past since 50% and 70% when he has magically changed oh and he has always loved her.
It is well written as you really feel for the heroine in the scenes mentioned earlier but sometimes you just want her to end up with someone who really deserves her.
I'm sorry but I felt a bit sick reading some of this. I don't think I'd have jumped in so quickly.

Spoiler o/w scenes below.

Here is an example.

24% after he sees the heroine again...
“Hey, sexy. What’s got you smiling?”
I turned from Tatum to the blonde who’d just sidled up to me and pressed her plastic tits into my arm.
“Just in a good mood, sweetheart,” I answered, giving her the smirk I knew would make her panties wet.
“Mmm,” she hummed seductively. “Is that so? Well, how do you feel about seeing if we can make that mood even better?”
I was definitely down for that. “Tell me something, gorgeous. You ever had nine inches of pure rock god shoved down your throat?”
The chick giggled like a kid on Christmas morning. “Can’t say I have.”
Standing from the barstool, I downed the last of my drink and set the empty tumbler down. Then I hooked my arm around her waist and started leading her away from the party.

Heroine's reaction...
Just then, a brunette with scarlet lips came sauntering past with a look pointed Camden’s way that spoke to all the things she was willing to do if he gave her a few minutes of his time.
I knew he caught the look same as I had when he mumbled, “Oh, I think I can find a way to fill my time,” and quickly followed after her.
With a good-natured laugh and a shake of my head, I turned from watching him disappear into the crowd and headed toward my past

“Maybe I just need a vacation,” I muttered to myself as I leaned against the brick exterior of the swanky hotel.
I’d just closed my eyes and rested my head on the wall when a rough, gravelly sound from several feet away startled them open.
Looking to my right, I noticed the shadowed figures from the other side of a dumpster. I was just about to head back inside, worried I’d stumbled upon a mugger or something, when a familiar voice spoke, sending a chill down my spine.
“That’s right, baby. Suck it hard. Take all of it. I know you can do it.”
Oh my fresh hell. I’d have known that voice anywhere. Bile crept up my throat as I stood frozen in place.
“Uuuuuhnn,” he groaned. “Yeah, just like that. Fuck me, I’m about to come. Want you to swallow every fuckin’ drop I’m gonna give you.”
I was going to be sick. There was no doubt about it. It was the very same voice I’d heard when I walked into that hotel room years back and had my life destroyed by the one man who was supposed to love and cherish me as much as I did him.

At 42% he had tried to talk to her and gets shut down... so....

Lifting my head off the pillow, I glanced at my latest mistake, a chick whose name I couldn’t even remember. I’d picked her up at a bar the night before after having way too much to drink and throwing myself a pity party over Tatum, and brought her to the hotel I typically used for my hookups. I refused to go to a woman’s house to get laid, and no way in hell was I bringing a groupie back to mine, so the hotel was my only option when I wanted to get my dick wet.
She placed her knee on the mattress and started crawling, naked as the day she was born, in my direction.
“None of your concern.” Blowing out a frustrated breath, I laid back down and said, “Playtime’s over, sweet cheeks. Time for you to go.”

Defile is the second book in the Civil Corruption series, and I had not read the first, which isn’t a problem as they are stand-alones, but I immediately went and downloaded Corruption after finishing Defile. I love this sexy, messy second-chance romance and adore these friends and bandmates in this series.

Tatum and Declan were best friends as kids and transitioned to lovers in high school. They were the forever-kind of couple until Declan’s band hit it big and he made some horrible, immature choices. He broke Tatum’s heart, and they haven’t spoken in ten years. Now, tragedy brings them back together, and Declan isn’t going to miss this opportunity to right his wrongs and win Tatum back.

He definitely has to earn her trust, and it is slow going for him to do, which makes the story believable. Tatum guards her heart, but she cannot resist the chemistry they share and decides to have a purely physical relationship with him. Although she believes she can keep it emotion-less, these two are destined to be more.

Declan is the type of hero who has to redeem himself, and he does. He’s sweet but also alpha and very sexy, and he genuinely loves Tatum and regrets his mistakes. Their reunion is bittersweet, poignant and romantic. Don’t miss Defile and the Civil Corruption series.

I ❤ This Book

Lately, I have been into reading second chance novels. I don't know why and it has become a phase of mine. I was recommended this book part of the book club I am in. I chose to not judge a book by its cover and went on to read the book. I REALLY LOVED THIS BOOK!

I'm gonna say I usually don't like to see cheaters get a second chance, but Declan did redeem himself. He loved Tatum, but like most celebrities fame got to his head which is a great depiction on Jessica Prince part because it resembles the real industry. He made a mistake and literally fought to have her back. The only thing that annoyed me about him was his aggression. He was upset at Tatum for leaving after she caught him cheating and left, what? Not to mention he blamed his actions on being high which is no excuse and treated Tatum like crap after she stood by him as the band was making it big.

However, he did a massive 360 at the end becoming the polar opposite of who he was.

I loved Tatum! She was strong, smart, and loyal. People may call her weak, but can you really truly fall out of love with a person you have know since seven and fell in love with at 15 giving him all your first, I don't think so? She held him accountable and made sure he knew he was wrong. I admired the relationship she had with the band members and Camden. She proves men and women can be friends 🤷🏿‍♀️. I loved seeing them grow up together because that was truly remarkable especially with Deck.

This book was amazing and I loved every minute of it giving it a 5/5. Great chemistry, great plot, &, great characters. I will now probably read the whole series. Read It Everyone. Read It.

Update: Looking back, Declan is a piece of shit and I hate how weak the women are portrayed in this series 😒.

My rating: 3 stars.

What I liked: I liked how Chris (manager that got fired) got what he deserved. I also liked the side characters especially Gina (I definitely will read her book). I also liked how Declan(H) went after her at the end.

What I didn’t like: Declan and his behavior. I’m supposedly to believe he is trying to win Tate(h) back with him still sleeping with ow (especially when she was back after ten years, he says he wants her but is still “screwing up”~his words not mine). Also, I hate how nothing was brought up about unprotected sex (he was doing drugs and ow but Tate had sex with him without a talk if he is clean or condom)

How hot was it: 3 out 5

Triggers: Cheating, H starts to make it big and his manager doesn’t like the h so he causes problems. H starts doing drugs and one night after the h was visiting her parents, he gets drunk, gets high and sleeps with two chicks (which he remembers nothing about). The h comes back and sees him. She leaves and they don’t see each other until 10 years later. Also, the H seeing the h for the first time in ten years get a bj that again the h sees. Plus he sleeps with other chick even though he is trying to get the h back.

Final thoughts: I enjoyed the story all the way up to the part of him having sex with a chick while knowing he was trying to win the h back (that part ruined the story for me a little). Definitely will read the next book.

Oh this book!

Based on their appearances in Corrupt, I knew that Declan and Tate had a long and complicated past, but wow, I wasn’t quite prepared for exactly how heart wrenching it would be to experience their story!

I really enjoyed the fact that the author delved into their past in great detail in order to give us the full story.

Because of that, it was easy for me to become emotionally invested into every single feeling they experienced as friends, lovers, and enemies.

At a particular turning point in this book where their relationship was inevitably going to change, I felt a pool of dread sitting in my belly because I KNEW what was coming but OH MY GOD knowing didn’t make it hurt any less!

I’m not really one to read a book that involves the reason for their break up, but Jessica Prince wrote it in a way that instead of becoming angry and unable to finish, I was heartbroken yes, but also intrigued and hopeful that somehow someway she would spin it so all would be well again.

I’ll be honest, during certain times I didn’t think I’d be able to get past it, I wanted to junk punch Declan and then run him over with my car while screaming “HOW COULD YOU?!” but eventually, and much to my surprise I found myself rooting for him to win Tate back.

After a time and what I thought was proper groveling I was convinced Declan learned from his mistakes and changed, and I truly believed he and Tate were meant to be.

I also whole heartedly believed he never meant to hurt her.

This book was an emotional experience. It left me exhausted and content in the very best way!

I know for some of you the content involved may be a hard limit, I would be lying if I said it wasn’t usually one of mine as well, but I urge you to give this book a chance anyway.

Trust this author to make it bearable.

It’s very well written and it honestly goes with the story. Yes this book is an emotional roller coaster, but it’s so worth it and definitely not something you want to miss!

Meh, it was just alright. I've yet to find a Jessica Prince book or series I like. All her FMCs act similar. The H in this book was let off too easily for what he did even if he was under the influence, and had a conniving manager and PA. I'm actually tired of author's using that excuse for cheating, but it made more sense here considering it's a rockstar romance, and they're all taken over by the fame. The H had a pretty big ego even til the end calling himself a rock god and saying some cringy thing's to girls he's screwing. I really didn't see his big change like everyone was seeing. Minus the drugs of course, but he made Tate's life miserable and helped in the public hating her to be honest. He's not really that honorable guy, and the grovel just wasn't there for me. I didn't like him at all, and Tate's BBS got on my nerves. Everything was just swept under the rug so easily, even though it was 10 years later. It didn't feel like it how the book was written. Though her walking in on " the scene" was heart wrenching and had my adrenaline pumping because we all knew what was coming. The last time I felt that way reading a book was Jaime Begley's book Razer. IYKYK. Is that the correct abbreviation? 😂 And I'm glad I didn't read book one because I didn't like Gwen in this book. She was bossy and kinda rude when it came to Tate's father acting like she knew everything. 🤷 Also, the female friend groups in all of JP's books I've read are quite shallow to be honest. I don't know. I'm just not fond of any of her FMCs so far.

Overall it was just ok. I do kind of want to read Mace's book which is the last book in this series I think.

One last thing. The author was slightly throwing in political views and I'm just not into that in my books.

"I need to know what is in the water where Jessica lives? I need to know what she's ingesting that's giving her the brain fuel to write these books, but she should bottle and sell it! She'd make a killing!!
Those boys of Civil Corruptions will ruin your heart! Bad boy rock stars with ooey gooey centers? YES. and PLEASE!
Defile is about Tate and Declan. Declan is the lead singer of Civil Corruption and Tate has been his best friend since they were 7 years old. When they turned 15, things changed, and they fell in love with each other. Years later, the band hits it big and get famous. That is where the downfall to Tate and Declan's relationship starts. Fame gets to his head, as does the partying. Things happen, they break up and don't talk or see each other for 10 years.
When Tate and Deck reunite, it most definitely isn't a warm, open arms welcome for either. Tate is rightfully upset about the end of their relationship, and Deck is bitter about a few things.
After being forced to be around each other more, they start letting the walls they built, crash down piece by piece.
I loved Tate and Deck. As stubborn as both are, they're so perfect for each other. I love Civil Corruption and am seriously impatiently waiting for Killian and Gina's book!! "

I'm on a rocker streak lately. This one had a second chance feel to it as well. I didn't know Defile would have a childhood sweethearts trope but I'm glad. I like those types of starts. Tatum has been tight with Civil Corruption even before they got big which is a huge plus. It all ties in with the previous storyline in Corrupt with their manager issues carrying it out to the cause of their issues and the bands.

Certainly fame has it's downside and caused a rift between Declan and Tate. Also Declan messed up huge breaking her trust. It's years later and lots of pent up feelings, anger and hurt. I feel in that time they also both changed again grew up as well. In order to move forward and for the band going forward they need to clear the air so to speak.

Can't deny the pull they have ever since, they have something deep and it will always affect them. I appreciate that they dealt with it well and it all pieced together. Declan and Tate had something special and they made it work the second time around. Jessica Prince depicted rock stars well. Killian's story sounds good and I can't wait.

Defile is the second book in the Civil Corruption series and it is a fantastic followup to Corrupt. This is Tate and Declan’s story and what a story this was. Tatum and Declan were best friends as kids and progressed into lovers in high school. They were the forever in love, forever together type of couple until Declan’s band hit the bigtime and Declan made some stupid, immature choices at that time in his life. His choices caused him to completely break Tatum’s heart badly and they haven’t spoken in 10 years. Fast forward 10 years and tragedy brings them back together. WOW, just the heat, the passion, the angst, the drama, the anger, the heartbreak and pain, the hope and the love that this story contains is amazing!!!! There were moments in this story that had me so angry at Declan and my heart breaking for Tatum. This is a great 2nd chance romance because when Deck sees Tatum again 10 years later, this man knows its time to get his woman back and that is what this story is about- 2nd chances and forgiveness. Tatum's strength is awesome in this story- she went thru some pretty hard and terrible times yet she did everything she could to make that her past, not her future. Declan can be a huge jerk; he knows it yet when it comes to making everything up to Tatum for the past, he is willing to do anything and that is the man I came to love in this story, not the jerk. There are some twists and turns that take this story to different places yet the ending was phenomenal. I cant wait to read the other guys’ stories--- Ms. Prince has a fantastic way of making her characters relatable and likeable even when they arent the nicest (aka Deck). She writes her stories and when reading , you are hooked and you will never want to come up for air. This is a MUST READ!!!

I thought it was going to be a kin to The Words by A. Jade but it doesn’t hold a candle to it. THIS WAS AWFUL. Honestly it shouldn’t even be in the same genre.

What disgusting misogynistic garbage. I had to go look up the publishing date because I couldn’t believe that we are still degrading women the way this author did. She believes every woman except the heroine are “skanks” and “whores” simply because they like to sleep with rockstars. Nevermind that they’re all consenting adults with free will… anyone who isn’t the FMC is a airhead bimbo who we should name call and degrade.

I should have know immediately that this wasn’t for me when the author told us that the FMC was just “one of the guys” because wouldn’t you know it: SHE’S NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS.

The MMC (cuz he ain’t a Hero that’s for sure) is a POS with an anger problem and no boundaries.
Resting your arms against the wall = sexy
Smashing vases against the wall in anger = unhinged
He needs therapy.

The FMC also needs therapy.

And I need the time I spent reading this back.

DNF @ 56% because I don’t even care how it ends.

DNF-ed at 80%

Not sure how I ended up at the 80% mark (maybe it was the neverending page skips). This was hands down one of the worst second chance romances I've read in a while (I read tons - it's my favourite trope).

The "hero" (sad that I even have to use this word) was horrid right from the very start. Declan cheated on Tate, and blames HER for her reaction and decision to cut things off with him abruptly. Oh. Was I supposed to pity this man? He couldn't deal with his fame and loneliness and decided to cheat? Miss me on this buffoonery!

I'm not sure how Tate even decided to take him back - I lost all respect for her when she quickly fell into bed with Declan. I felt Defiled reading their first intimate scene post-reunion. I quickly skipped every single one after that. No thank you! The only thing those scenes convinced me of was that romance is dead. You can't convince me that the GR rating system is not faulty because there's no way this book could have an average rating of 4.05 stars.

What an amazing book.
I loved the friends to lovers then to really messed up. That's the best way to describe Tatum and Declan. They have been best friends since they were 7. Which by the way is my very favorite part of this story.
The other part that I really loved is that Civil corruption started off as 5 boys trying to make a name for themselves. And Tatum was there every step of the way, The 6 of them got so tight they considered each other family. Bur some where along the way Declan started to let his fame get the best of him and he started to truly live the life of a Rock G-d. This broke Tatum's heart.
Fast forward 10 years and some how Tatum and Declan are in the same room again. What happens is just amazing. I loved how Tate's broken heart started to slowly mend.
I wont say anything else you'll just have to read this book to see what happens
