Frankie Ramirez never figured helping a twink-in-need would lead to him finding a bestie, but that's exactly what happened with Evan. Living with him at Metropolis has been a dream come true. Evan's sexy, kind, knows how to make Frankie smile, and he's both hilarious and confident when he sings his heart out during karaoke. Evan's been dealt a bad hand, and Frankie likes being there for him, but Evan does the same for Frankie. When life gets heavy, nothing fixes it like movies, Chinese food, and Evan.
After the betrayal of his dick-of-an-ex, Evan Lockhart has a hard time getting close to people. But the one guy he can always count on is his laid-back, adorable, beanie-wearing bestie, Frankie. Frankie is fiercely loyal and protective-exactly what Evan needs in his life right now. Evan tells him everything, but when he finds himself curious to explore something a little unusual-maybe a little strange-he worries about what will happen if Frankie finds out.
But who better to explore your closet kink with than your best friend? Evan and Frankie know they're strong enough not to let something like this get between them. And really, is there any harm in just TRYING IT?
Riley Hart is the girl who wears her heart on her sleeve. She's a hopeless romantic. A lover of sexy stories, passionate men, and writing about all the trouble they can get into together. If she's not writing, you'll probably find her reading.
Riley lives in California with her awesome family, who she is thankful for everyday.
This was a cute story full of sweetness that was manageable for my jaded butt. Frankie and Evan made a for a sweet couple who really fit each other well. I also enjoyed the fact that they talked about everything leaving little to no angst to be had. I liked that there was little drama and no real big situations that was OTT. The only problem I really had with this book was the kink. Now look, I don't judge and give no shits what anyone does in their bedrooms or in the privacy of their homes. I don't care what kind of sex you like or don't like. Whatever floats you boat baby. It just happens that this did not float my ass anywhere but in awkward town. I just didn't get it. I didn't see the appeal. And that is me and my tastes. So when it was going on it took me out of the story. I'm happy that these guys found something that connected them on a deeper level and made them happy. It just wasn't for me.
Evan and Frankie are adorable as a couple. I really enjoyed this friends to lovers romance that included a big dose of kink! Puppy play, ladies and gentleman, wriggles it’s way into this story and creates all sorts of kinky tension for best friends, Evan and Frankie.
This kink may not be for all, and while I can’t imagine myself as jumping into puppy play, I see why many do. The lovely thing about this story is that we see this kink take root and grow from the beginning for both MCs, as pup and handler. It made the kink easier to understand when learned via Evan’s and Frankie’s POV.
What started out as a friend helping his bestie discover his pup soon turned into a heated, and emotionally charged sexual relationship between these two very compatible men.
Both have personal issues they work to overcome, and puppy play becomes an important part of their beings.
The sex was very hot....these two were so into each other. There was next to no angst aside from Evan’s insecurities and issues with depression; and Frankie’s relationship with his “sperm donor.”
I found this book not only fun, but sexy, and extremely educational since I knew next to nothing about this kink. It’s not for anyone, but to paraphrase Evan and Frankie, “other people don’t have to get it, it’s ours.”
Oh....and for a bonus....we get to see Gary and Travis tie the knot. (Not a grand affair, just tacked on at the end).
This was cute if you like a little kink with your characters ❤️ it won’t be for everyone but if you can handle puppy play you’re good to go ! It’s by no means hardcore, it’s just the beginning, an exploration into this world which Evan & Frankie take together. These two have a serious love for each other but linger in the space as best friends- not wanting to mess up their dynamic. On a chance evening things change and then a nervous kiss opens the floodgates. I enjoyed these two and while some elements became repetitive- Evans ex and Frankie’s bio father, I just ignored those parts and just focused on the relationship. Definitely a low angst sweet book.
I have enjoyed the previous installments in this series, but this book left me anxiously awaiting the end. The writers kept saying the same thing over and over to the point I found myself skimming sections of the the characters' whining. If a reader is into puppy play or wants to know more, this may be the book to read; the authors certainly spend enough time in the narrative reiterating that there is nothing wrong with dressing up in leather like a dog and chasing one's own tail. They also take a decent stab at explaining chronic depression, and fortunately that does not get the heavy-handed overkill of the puppy play kink. The best scenes in the novel are the ones in which there is interaction with Frankie's mother. The flaw in this novel seems to be the authors trying too hard.
Man, I love Frankie and Evan. And they make such a cute couple. Also, the fact that this is a friends to lovers book made me so happy. But I had no idea that Trying It included was puppy play. It really turned me off. I wish there was a warning.
I mean I might come back to this? Maybe. I have no idea.
Well...this was an anticlimactic end to a series I've loved since book 1.
I do not even know where to begin with what didn't work for me with this.
You know what? Let me make a list: *the writing was luckluster at best (I KNOW both of these authors can do way better) *the MCs were one dimensional and aside for their kink, completely bland *former characters from previous books that I loved began to annoy me because it seemed their personalities in this one had been turned up to a 1000% and just rubbed me the wrong way *it was very very very repetitive from start to finish. (Evan's ex was mentioned like a zillion times, they being besties and now more about a billion times, Evan's insecurities about a million times and Frankie's anger at his dad about a cool 500,000 times).
By 40% I had had it up to here with these things. I was just fed up. I honestly do not know what pushed me to finish. I guess what saved it was the kinky sexy times which was an eye opener because it was something I hadn't encountered before. I actually had to consult Google and boy o boy did those images burn into my brain. Lol!
Buuuut, I liked the way the kink was explained and how it gave solace to those who enjoy it either in the bedroom or out of it. This reasoning was also, unfortunately , repeated many many times throughout the story and threatened to completely mess up my reading experience.
The good thing is about this book is that its on KU and can be read as a stand alone. So, pick books 1- 3.5 of this series and go ahead and skip this one entirely, you wouldn't miss much.
Well, I was very pleasantly surprised by this story. I'd met both characters in previous books but in this one, the spotlight shone on their friendship which developed into a warm and loving relationship. The key was puppy play that allowed Evan to be himself-- a beautiful, warm, loving man who seeks reassurance and acceptance of who he is. And it allowed Frankie to work with his strengths-- a loving, giving, caretaker who wants the best for everyone.
Probably the best puppy play book I've ever read, it's respectful, educational, and so warm and romantic. I just loved it.
In fact, I enjoyed the entire series and I wonder what took me so long to discover it. Highly recommended.
This was my least favorite of the series, though I did really like Evan and Frankie. The puppy play is not my thing, so at times I was just not really feeling it like I normally would have. I loved Frankie, what a doll, super sweet, adored every interaction with his mama. He was very supportive and gave Evan a lot of reassurance, which he needed a ton of--that part actually seemed pretty realistic. I felt that in the beginning there was a bit more telling than necessary and some repetition. overall it was a pretty quick, sweet, low angst read.
I’ll be totally upfront and honest: I am the most vanilla guy you will ever meet. With that said, this book is FANTASTIC!! While the kink is definitely there, it’s balance with real character depth.
I love friends-to-lovers stories because they take a relationship that is already strong and strengthens it, deepening it. The friendship between Frankie and Evan is one of the strongest I’ve ever seen written. It’s the depth of that friendship, that incredible level of trust, that allows these two friends to explore something and grow closer.
Riley Hart and Devon McCormack deliver another (and reportedly their last) PHENOMENAL Metropolis book. It’s hard to say goodbye to these characters, but if this is the end, this is a great way to go.
This was a very sweet story featuring best friends Frankie and Evan. Evan was a victim of Peter's lies and cheating (who was Gary's ex from the first story), but luckily he has found a great group of friends in the group from Metropolis. Frankie is Jackson's coworker, who we met back in book 3.
Evan deals with depression and his self-image and worth, and finds himself curious about the world of puppy play. Now...puppy play is a kink that I really haven't read much about before, and I don't know if I...get it? But I really appreciated that it was approached with such respect and general info about the lifestyle, and that Frankie and Evan were so matter-of-fact with their approach to it. They wanted to make it work for both of them, and in the process, their friendship becomes more than just that and they find love too.
It was great seeing the other guys back in the story (I'm sorry, but Derek and Jackson are just my OTP for life in this series, they are perfection) and I liked that there wasn't anything too crazy or OTT drama between Frankie and Evan. Very sweet and I'm sad that there won't be any more stories from Metropolis! Great collab between these two authors!
3.5 stars. I enjoyed this book but i think it was probably my least favourite of the series . The puppy play aspect was really well written, especially compared to another authors book that I've read but I found myself skimming some pages. I loved all the little cameo scenes from all of the other couples. Overall I enjoyed it but I didn't love it!
DNF at 60% I love Riley Hart. Love her. She's one of my favorite author in the world. But but this book didn't work for me.
I just don't understand why they started fucking each other in the name of the friendship. Why? I can't just have sex with my BFF because i wanna try my kink thing. I wanted to see them fall in love slowly. Discovered step by step they were made for each other.
Love you Riley but this is a NO for me. I really love all these guys tough. Gary <3
I feel like over the course of this series, and especially this story, I have taken away one important message, you do you. If there is a kink you love, who the f*ck am I to judge. Do whatever makes you happy because those who truly care will support you regardless of if they 'get it' or not. Which was totally the case with Frankie and Evan.
These two had an undercurrent of sexual chemistry from the moment they met but they were both meant for so much more. Evan had to heal from past trauma and Frankie needed to learn how to let things go. This story was delightfully endearing. Evan really found himself, a kink where he can truly be in his element, but also his voice. He was so much more than than the man stealing whore I initially titled him as.
Watching these two grow together tugged at my heart strings. The more I dive into the M/M world, the more I am learning but at the end of the day, love is love and regardless of who it is, it still makes my heart soar. The passion and feeling that Frankie and Evan share feel so very real, I celebrated their triumphs and my heart hurt when they stumbled.
The gang is all back and you get to see Travis and Gary's wedding, cue the swooning. I just love the chemistry and total passion each of these couples' has. I am sad that there is only one novella left. The pacing and tempo of these stories is relatable and the friendships seem as if I am sitting at a table, having a beer with old friends. Sad to see it go, but glad Evan and Frankie finally caved into their undeniable attraction.
I am struggling with completing the book so I am going to put it aside for now and hopefully come back to it later. I will say one thing about it. I am about 60% through. These two are fairly recent best friends who live together. They both have had their past struggles, but it is made clear that the one person who they can depend on, who has filled this void of trust in their lives, is each other. And when I say "made clear" I mean repeated over and over and over again...then once more with feeling. We get it. You guys trust each other 100% and only each other 100%. There is nobody you can talk to the way you can talk to each other, if there is one person you can share it with it is him, if there is one person who won't judge you it is him, if there is one person who will understand it is him...yes. OKAY.
this was a very sweet story without a lot of angst but a lot of emotion. the only thing which was a bit strange for me was the puppy play ... but it was very well done
I’m really liking this series. I still have to read book 1&2, but after seeing Evan and Frankie meet in the previous book, I had to read this first.
I wasn’t turned off by the puppy play since I’ve been reading all kinds of kinky books this year. But I do have to say, it’s not my favorite kind of kink.
Evan was the young twink who Gary’s boyfriend apparently cheated with in the previous books. But Evan is not the bad guy here. He was fooled by Peter, just like Gary was. And when everyone turns on him, Evan feels so alone he starts crying when he tries to apologize to Gary. It is then that Gary and the crew find out the truth and take Evan under their wing.
Frankie is Jackson’s best friend and when he goes out with the whole Metropolis crew, he meets young, sweet Evan. Frankie walks the hurt young man home after a night out when he sees he could use a friend. And after that the two become fast friends.
Now Frankie and Evan are living together in Metropolis and play such a big role in each other’s life, they wouldn’t what to do without each other. Everyone keeps teasing them about them being a couple, but they both insist they are only friends.
When Evan suddenly finds out he might be more kinky than he thought, he doesn’t know who to turn to. It’s not like he could just go up to Frankie and say he thinks he might be into puppy play. But that turns out to be unnecessary when Frankie spots Evan at PupStravaganza by accident.
Now that the cat’s out of the bag, Frankie offers to help Evan explore this new side of him. And who better to do this with than your best friend….
I really loved how Evan and Frankie were such close friends that they basically acted like a couple without being a couple (yet). They were constantly hugging and cuddling on the couch. I loved how natural it felt when they went from friends to boyfriends.
These books are sweet without feeling too sugary and I love that about them. Evan and Frankie were not afraid to talk about their feelings, but they didn’t talk everything to death either.
The puppy play played a big role in this and while I like the caring part of it, it’s not my favorite kink to read about. But it did fit with these two for some reason.
There is puppy play. And...it seems to be the kink on the rise but it is explained well and really just kind of role play and letting go so okay why not?
There is a bit of repeating instead of development as well as telling and not showing in Evan's and Frankie's relationship but I liked these two heroes a great deal so while I didn't love it, I enjoyed it,
Trying it by Riley Hart and Devon McCormack is a beautiful ending to a fantastic series. Friends to lovers, it was so sweet and sexy to watch Evan and Frankie's friendship slowly evolve in to so much more in a slightly unconventional way. I’m going to miss these boys!!!
Great writing but I can 100% say I will never read a story with puppy play in it again. Don't want to kink shame cause to each their own but I absolutely hated it and it made me almost dnf this. Each scene made me more and more uncomfortable but I just started skimming them so I could finish the story =/
True rating ... 2.5 stars, just for the super HOT sex scenes :-)!! Other than that, I was pretty indifferent to the story and can't say I liked the book :-/! I feel the sex scenes DO deserve a higher rating, but I'm hesitant to round things up to 3 stars :-/!! I'll say it again, the sex scenes were SIZZLING HOT!! The rest of the plot? Meh!!
Wat een vreselijk boek! Na 42 % mee gestopt en mij tot dat moment 100 % geërgerd. Slecht geschreven, slechte karakterschetsen, veel clichés en tenenkrommende gesprekken tussen de 2 hoofdpersonen.
This last Metropolis series book was just the right amount of sweet and sexy and full of playful puppy love. It was great to see all my favorite boys again, I read the other books almost a year ago so It was definitely time for a re-read. What I like most about this book is how the relationship is built, while in the other three books the physical aspect came first and rather fast here we have a definite pause before any frisky tail shaking actions starts. This slowness is Key to the complexity of Frankie and Evan's relationship, without adding to that the Puppy Play kink. So this was a great choice by both authors to take a step back and make a solid foundation for these two. I ADORE Friends-to-Lovers and this book had everything I love about it, such a great friendship with easy banter and lots of love and support, it was just perfect.
Kink, while not my first pick for reading material generally, was described well, researched and most importantly, respectful and accurate. Devon and Riley bring a very divers set of characters and lifestyles in their books, and they do so well. It's great to read about it and also I find that they write it very down to earth and real. You feel it as if you are reading about people outside of the book's pages and it has a very easygoing, accepting tone. As a reader of M/M it's wonderful to see and read about diverse couples, lifestyles and people, and I respect both authors for writing this book the way they did. Out of all the kink books I read Puppy Play is the one I am least familiar with or relate to and yet I fount it was not an issue for me to relate to the characters or understand the importance of it in their lives. There is a great amount of trust between them that allows them to explore this side of themselves together, and it was so very hot once they really got into the romantic side of the relationship!!!
I found that even the drama was well placed and not overbearing, Frankie and Evan are great partners in every sense and managed to work thing out fast without any fallout. The support they have from all their friends and family is truly wonderful to read about.
I was so excited to return to Metropolis!! I love these boys so much. In this final installment, we get to meet Frankie and Evan. Important but peripheral characters in previous stories , we get to delve into their world. Evan has a secret desire and his roommate Frankie is just the one to give it to him, discovering how much he also needs it. The friendship between these two shows through and provides a safe place for them both to let go of their insecurities. Hart and McCormack write a story that approaches a unique area of “play” with humor and dignity. The story made me care so much about each of these characters. I will miss Metropolis. Hopefully we will get to see these characters in other works by these authors.
So...this was not at all what I expected. I adore this series. Every single book has been a hit for me, and this one was no different, despite the fact that it involved something I really wasn't comfortable with: puppy play. Had I known, I might have refrained from even picking it up to read, but I'm so glad I did because for me, it wasn't about that. It was about the intense connection and clear, true love between Evan and Frankie. That is what made this book for me. They were so amazing together, and even when something as taboo as the pup thing came up, Frankie didn't shy away from what Evan needed and it was a beautiful thing to read. Once again, this series remains one of my very favorites. I'm looking forward to Donovan's book!!
this is a slow burn friends to lovers romance book. I do like how descriptive the smut scenes were. it was very hot sexy. I truly love the friendship aspect to them. they both felt like a couple even before the feelings started to show, and the book paced their relationship pretty well. I also really enjoyed the display of puppy play they incorporated. I have been around the block (haha, very old sounding), and I've dabbled in a lot of things, and it's refreshing to see this in a book. Frankie is also so beautiful, I just love hearing his voice as I read. 4.5 ⭐️
