As the title suggests, this little booklet contains 25 favorite stories from the Bible. The nineteen from the Old Testament begin with creation, tell about Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, and Moses, and end with the crossing of the Red Sea. The six from the New Testament cover the birth, teachings, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. All are suitable for reading aloud to young children.
So far as I could tell, each story is true to the Biblical account yet is perfectly appropriate for small ears. I detected no unnecessary supposition and no attempts to introduce or justify any questionable theological ideas. The only thing with which some Bible believers would disagree is on the last page which attempts to explain “The Way to God and Peace.” There it is said, “When we receive Jesus as our sacrifice and repent of our sins, our hearts are changed….We will testify to others of this change by being baptized….”
I picked up this book at a Mennonite country store where several copies were on a shelf, along with a number of Bibles and a sign reading, “Everything on this shelf is free for the taking.” According to the publisher’s information page, this title is also available in Romanian, Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish, Haitian Creole, and German. In addition, Amazon.com lists editions in Arabic, Thai, Tagalog, Dari, Hebrew, and Tajik. Apparently, these products are sourced from BIML (Bible In My Language), in Baltimore, MD, the leader in foreign language Bibles and outreach materials in more than 600 languages.
