Bird & Squirrel #5

Bird & Squirrel All Tangled Up

Rate this book
When Red has to go spend the night helping Grandmole, Bird and Squirrel are put in charge of taking care of Squirrel's daughter, Birdie. But Birdie wants to go with her mom because staying home is so BORING! So Bird convinces Squirrel (despite his better judgment) to have some fun while Red is gone. And as far as Bird is concerned, nothing is more fun than setting off in search of the most elusive creature of the forest: Bigfoot! And even though Squirrel teaches Birdie that being prepared is always best, nothing can prepare them for the crazy adventures ahead!

When Red is away helping a neighbor, Birdie begs Squirrel for some excitement. Bird proposes going to look for Bigfeet. While out and about on their search they encounter other perils -- imagined and real -- including a g-g-g-giant spider. Eeek!! Will they find Bigfeet? Will Birdie ever get a chance to fly for real? Tune into this episode of the Bird & Squirrel series to find out. It is a treat to see Squirrel and his protective, paternal care of little Birdie with Bird expertly playing the part of the fun uncle.

2⭐️

Would’ve given this a 4⭐️ but I hate spiders and had to skip a bunch of pages 🤷🏼‍♀️

My favorite Bird & Squirrel yet!! I love this series! Super cute and hilarious. Lots of laugh out loud moments. The kids at school will be fighting each other to get to this one.

This fifth book in the series doesn't have quite as much action as the other Bird and Squirrel books. But there is some emotional growth for Squirrel as he adjusts to being a father, and fun-loving, adventure-seeking Bird is supportive of his friend in the end. Bright full-color art.

I absolutely love this series from beginning to end! At first, I was wary of another entry in the series because I thought the last one wrapped up things nicely. Have no fear! This book is just as fun as others and didn't feel unnecessary.

I love this character arc Squirrel is going through, and each book develops his character a bit more. He's no longer a scaredy-cat, but he can't get over worrying about everything. Squirrel is facing some real-deal parental fear which is shown expertly through paranoid dreams. Great showing and not telling!

His daughter Birdie is a cutie and not a brat. For some reason, some stories annoy the readers with obnoxious offspring who are unbearable. Thankfully, Birdie is gung-ho about adventure but still loves her daddy and is sweet. She takes after Bird but there are glimpses of Squirrel in her character too.

Adorable artwork, engaging story, and wonderful characters. If there's another book, I'll read that too! *virtual thumbs up*

For what they are these books are fine. Basically a Saturday morning cartoon in graphic novel format, which gets kids reading so the ups outweigh the down.

But when a book is dedicated to one of your all-time best friends, an absolutely amazing individual, it doesn't matter if the book is the phone book, you give it 5-stars!!!!!!!!

Dedication page was incredible and the rest of the book was just as good.

My seven year old son and I love this series! We read one together almost every night. It's hard to choose a favorite but I think it's a toss up between #4 and#5. The only complaint about All Tangled Up is that it is shorter than On Fire. My son hoped they would keep getting longer. But we really did enjoy it anyway. This story was great in exploring Squirrel's and Birdie's father/daughter relationship. Funny and adorable.

This series is the best! Our copy arrived today and my 9 year old is in hysterics reading it. I’m laughing while I type as I listen to him excitedly tell his dad all about it. I highly recommend this series, the whole family loves it!

I had no clue there was another Bird and Squirrel adventure! This one features all our favorite pals, especially Bird and the little squirrel Birdie. Bird convinces everyone to help him look for Bigfoot (or should I say Bigfeet?). It was cute, but not my favorite in the series.

Gosh, I sure do love these guys. My kiddo is a newly minted seven and just starting to read on his own, so we read these together. It's a lot of fun and a great read!

I like it when there is just the bird and squirrel. I don’t like how they made the squirrel to be a dad.

I enjoyed these so much I read the first five volumes (all there are so far) in a row. Excellent "buddy" humor and surprising character growth over the course of the series--it's not just the same jokes repeated endlessly. I'm getting ready to start them with my kids.

Bird & Squirrel is such a fantastically playful series, and All Tangled Up might be my favourite series entry. The addition of 'Birdie the Brave' (adorable and bubbly daughter of Squirrel and Red) is super and there are clearly lots of fun stories left to tell in this series.

A fantastic surprise, as we (my 6 year old daughter and I) were sure the last book was “the end”’to Squirrel and Bird books! We loved it, Birdie was a fun character and it was a fast paced storyline.

Graphic novel I bought for my classroom because they are obsessed right now. At first I hated it. It was totally weird. But I kept reading. Overall I enjoyed the quick read and there was a good theme throughout.

What a treat! Squirrel as a Dad is as neurotic as you’d imagine, but just as loving, too! Bird makes the perfect (FUN) uncle!

The second Bird and Squirrel book I read, and I love it even more than the first! We need to get the whole set for the school library; I think these are going to be a hit.

{My thoughts} – So much adventure and so many things to be scared about. Red is Squirrel’s wife. We met her in the last book. At the end of the last book we were introduced to their daughter Birdie. Yes, she is named after Bird.

Red has to make a delivery that will keep her gone for a couple of days. Squirrel is left home to take care of their daughter. Bird visits and gets Birdie all excited about going on an adventure to find Bigfeet. This is after Squirrel had already told his daughter they were going to stay inside.

They do go on an adventure to look for Bigfeet, but they don’t exactly find him or her. They do find all kinds of other things that are fun, but Squirrel is so scared of everything that he attempts to push those fears on everyone around him. It’s one of those interesting concepts when you really think about it. Push the fear on another, get them to believe it and not be afraid of things alone. The only problem is that Bird and Birdie aren’t really afraid of anything.

I really liked this book. It showed so many great friendship type things. It also showed the relationship between a father and daughter. The relationship between n uncle and niece. I enjoy when things unravel and a lot has unraveled in this series. I wouldn’t have imagined the author was going to bring it to where it is now, but I absolutely love that he did. This has been a really fun series to read and I hope there will be more books added to it in the future.

Squirrel has developed into a bit of an anxious parent. He keeps having nightmares of bad things happening to Birdie that he can't save her from. When Bird convinces Squirrel to take Birdie bigfoot hunting, nothing could possibly go wrong...right?

This is a great continuation of Bird & Squirrel's adventures. The development of Squirrel into a worrywart parent feels very natural based on his past character, and I really like the lessons he learns in this book. It's a great read for kids (or parents) with mild anxiety. And of course, Bird & Squirrel fans and graphic novel fans will gobble up this latest adventure. Highly recommended.

The 5th comic in the Bird & Squirrel series. Bird and Squirrel are watching Squirrel's daughter, Birdie. Bird convinces Squirrel to have some fun, and they end up on a wild adventure. A fun and funny comic for kids.
