The Spanish edition of Sarai Around the World! The students are sick and tired of Spaghetti-and-Meatball Mondays in the cafeteria. The administration says they can help create a new menu, so students throughout the school make booths with their family's specialties for Around-the-World Day. It's a head-to-head battle between Sarai's Peruvian chicken and Valeria's tamales. Who will win the big cook-off and get their grandparents' recipes on the cafeteria menu?
Sarai Gonzalez became an overnight sensation after appearing in Bomba Estéreo’s, “Soy Yo,” a music video about embracing yourself and loving your flaws. The video garnered over 30 million views and The New York Times called Sarai a Latina icon. Sarai and the Meaning of Awesome is the first book in her new chapter book series inspired by her life.
Unfortunately, there were too many underdeveloped/crammed together plot lines going on that caused a real lack of substance for the story & its characters.
Predictable but fun. For the age group it would be an enjoyable read. I like the family support and that the decisions she makes don’t involve relationship issues but simple situations that show responsibility and decision making.
The world fair for Sarai was a way to learn about where her father grew up which is costa rica. Sarai is a very smart girl. I also think that Christina (her best friend) is very supporting to Sarai. Sarai loves to hear her dads stories.
I read this with my seven-year-old and this is our second book from the series. I love reading these with her because being half Chilean (my grandfather we called Tata as well) it’s fun to share stories with my daughter about that side of her family while reading these books
