Stella Knight writes time travel romance and historical romance novels. She enjoys transporting readers to different times and places with vivid, nuanced heroes and heroines.
Star-crossed lovers find each other, despite living centuries apart.
Introduce a sexy Scot with a brogue to a grief-stricken, time-traveling woman and you've got a great story. This is the second book in this series and it's as good as the first!
Ronan, in charge of the clan while Eadan and Fiona are on the 14th century equivalent of a honeymoon, is overwhelmed with his new responsibilities. The last thing he needs is a mysterious woman showing up out of nowhere with an unlikely backstory. He doesn't trust her.
Kara recently lost the most important person in her world: her grandmother. While cleaning out her grandmother's house, she comes across a chest with a letter that tasks her with solving an ancient family mystery. Initially, she's convinced that perhaps her grandmother wasn't as sharp towards the end as she thought, but Kara can't stop thinking about the letter.
This is a suspenseful, intriguing and romantic story. Ronan is unsure of himself, stubborn and smart. Kara is brave, feisty and determined. When Kara is found on his land, Ronan is immediately suspicious of her, yet strangely immensely attracted to her, so he locks her up in one of his guest rooms. Kara is afraid of Ronan, yet she's never been more drawn to a man. She went to the past to save her ancestors, but falls for the sexy Highlander, and recruits him to help her. It takes time to learn to trust each other, but once they do, they make a formidable alliance. It's very entertaining to see Ronan fight his feelings for the feisty and independent woman from the future. I have really enjoyed this series and look forward to reading more books in it. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Exclusive ARC. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
This is a good story and likeable characters. Too many sex scenes for me as they are always the same and can disrupt the flow of the story. If you like descriptive sex scenes throughout your story then you will like this. I give it 5 stars as it was well written and good characters. I will read the next book but just skip any repeated sex scenes.
Chemistry is something Stella's characters must have passed with flying colors in school, because they definitely have it in abundance in her books. Whew! Kara and Ronan definitely belong together, even work well together in a crisis. If only people in the 21st century could be as passionate about life and love. Definitely a good read!!
This is my honest and completely voluntary review for this ARC.
If you are a fan or Romance Novels and Outlander, you have found the right book!
Mindy has finally started cleaning out the place she had called home for many years. The loss of the woman who loved her and cared for her here is overwhelming and comforting. The words said to Mindy before this loss are ones that replay over and over again in her mind. Something so strange happened and now there is no arguing the facts of what is right in front of her. Mindy has not had good luck with relationships, and has been left because of needing to take care of the one, who now is gone.
Ronan has been left in charge of the Clan and the lands. His cousin, who usually is the Head of the Clan, is on his honeymoon. There seems to be an unrest between the bordering Clans, and the tension is getting to everyone. Ronan envies his cousin and new bride, a little, it does not make him want a relationship though. All of a sudden an intruder on his lands has him very busy.
Ancient stones, an eerie wind, and she is in a strange land. She is captured as an intruder and questioned by the most handsome of warriors. Mindy shares she has gotten lost while looking for her family. Ronan is very intuitive and knows she is withholding something.
There is an electricity between these two that cannot be denied. They get caught up in passionate kisses and then it stops cold. It is due to her secrets though that Ronan will not allow things to further happen between them. When the trouble begins to show among the Clans and lands, Ronan and Mindy find themselves opening up and sharing everything. Their passion ignites and burns like wildfire.
Mindy has an idea to get information about the war that is brewing, Ronan is absolutely against it, but the other leaders in the Clan are supportive with it. The plan is started and everyone is in place. Mindy is beginning to get information, Ronan is unable to let this happen, Mindy is being taken away by Ronan once again. There will be no shortage of anger expressed between them on that ride home. Once home, the information is shared with the other leaders and the battle plan is forged.
There is also a personal battle for Ronan and Mindy, one that sends them in different directions. Each of them searching the feelings being stirred inside, and both realize this is not the way they want to end. Is it too late? Mindy finds her family members during the time of the “detour” she was on. There are questions from the beginning of the book answered as well.
The detour in the road is exactly what was needed for Mindy and Ronan to realize what wanted all along, each other.
This is an OK Scottish time-travel romance, and an OK addition to The Highlander Fate series. It was entertaining, but it was just too short to have enough character development. I wanted more backstory on both Ronan and Kara, but especially on Ronan.
I mostly liked both Ronan and Kara, but it did bother me that Ronan was OK with being such a terrible womanizer. I also wanted them to communicate better. Most of their issues were caused by a lack of communication, brought on partly by a fear of sharing their true selves. I liked that some of the supporting characters helped them get past that, and learn to talk to each other.
One thing that bothered me about this book is the historical mistakes. The men all wear kilts in 1390 Scotland, but they didn't actually start wearing kilts in Scotland until the 16th century. The characters also ride in carriages, which wasn't done in that time period, because the roads were too bad. Everyone rode horses, or traveled in small carts like farmers used -- carriages had not even been invented yet. I suspect the author may have included those two things because of popular movies (like Braveheart) -- but it isn't correct, just because Hollywood does it.
This one get 3.5 stars from me, rounded down to 3 stars.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
I really enjoyed Ronan's Captive (book 2) It had a good story line with lots of action and I am looking forward to reading book three, which is about Fiona (Ronan's cousin's wife) friend Isabelle journey through time..
My only negative comment, is that the sexual scenes were really, unnecessarily too explicit- there was no need for so much detail - Stella Knight could have left some things to the imagination.
I was also a bit puzzled about the Preview and main story line about the time travellers in "Ronan's Captive".
In the Preview of Ronan's Captive at the end of book 1 - Eadan's Vow. Ronan was at his brother's wedding and was alerted by a servant that a strange woman was wondering the grounds of his Manor. Ronan left his brother's castle and went to the grounds of his manor to see who it was.
The strange woman, dressed in the gown her grandmother had given her to travel through time, answered to the name of Kara, with green eyes and golden hair. Ronan demanded to know where she came from and what she was doing on his property, and unsatisfied with her response, literally dragged her into his manor for further questioning. .
In Chapter 2 of "Ronan's Captive" (Book 2), what was described in the preview in book 1 about the strange woman on Ronan's grounds was very different. Here it appears that the mysterious woman on Ronan's grounds that he was alerted about by his servant, had disappeared before Ronan arrived there from his brother's wedding. They had searched everywhere but couldn't find her. So, in actually fact, this woman wasn't questioned by Ronan on his grounds, on the night of his brothers wedding as described in the preview.
When Kara arrived, having traveled through time, the servant announced that a second strange woman had turned up on the grounds of Ronan's Manor. So now it appears that two strange women had appeared on Ronan's property. The first one had vanished and Kara was the second one - not the first, who apparently had the same name and description as her.
Ronan's Captive is the second installment in the Scottish time travel romance series, Highlander Fate. It follows closely after the events of the first book, Eadan's Vow. Kara, a woman living in modern times, uncovers a note from her deceased grandmother pleading with her to go back in time and prevent a horrible event from happening that directly involves her distant family members. She's even left her with a wardrobe choice to time travel in. After a little debate, Kara goes to Scotland and follows her grandmother's instructions, landing herself in the time of the Highlanders. She becomes a captive of Ronan who is watching over things while Eadan and Fiona are on their honeymoon. Her and Ronan wind up falling for each other while she helps him to uncover a plot by a rival clan to attack their lands. Similar to Eadan's story, this one does include a bit of a plot beyond just the traveling back in time and falling in lust with a hot Highlander. Readers who enjoyed the first book in the series will like this one as well.
This is the second in the Highlander Fate series and this one is as good as the first. Ronan's self-doubt was interesting in a strong leader, but as you get to know him a little, you can see his struggles are not only real, they come from his background and his need to be accepted for himself. His struggles only endear him to the reader. Kara is a strong woman but never oversteps what would be acceptable in the time she finds herself and Ronan's initial resistance to allowing her to help is realistic. Kara's story is different from Fiona's in that she has an inkling of where she is and this, while still leaving her reeling, allows her to accept her fate. Their strong attraction is fiery but adds to Ronan's dilemma as he negotiates his new role. I liked that the clan nobles questioned him, but their lack of respect was, although probably to be expected, not helping him to deal with the crisis.
Meet Kara Forrester in the present day. She has no job. She has no family. She has no man. She was raised by her grandmother, Alice. After Alice's death, Kara finds a letter Alice left for her. In it, Alice directs Kara to time-travel to the 14th century to save her ancestors and others from a fire.
Kara follows instructions and appears on the property of Ronan of Clan Mcleay where she is suspected of being a spy from a rival clan with which they have recently clashed. Kara tells Ronan that she is searching for family members, her deceased grandmother's final wish.
When I don't know how to pronounce names, I become creative. Thus my pronunciation of Tarag was "Toe-rag." This is one of my favorite driving curses: "You filthy toe-rag! " I have many more, but we won't go into that.
Ronan Macleary has been left in charge of the clan while his cousin and his bride spend time alone. Ronan finds a lass walking along the edge of his Manor. he wants to help. Kara is from the twenty-first century and finds herself in 1390. I thought this a very good story of Ronan and Kara, their interactions with the other characters are very good and realistic. Even though the plot keeps adding new turns to the story, it does keep your attention. I have now read two of this author's books and I am looking forward to another one. I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.
Kara is a investigative reporter who just lost her grandmother who raised her and her job. While cleaning out her grandmother’s house she finds a chest with a letter addressed to her from her grandmother and a 14th century dress. Upon reading the letter Kara is sent on a time traveling experience she would not have believed until it happens. Kara finds herself in the year 1390 in Scotland where she meets Ronan a Manor laird, cousin to Eadan Macleay clan chieftain. Together Kara and Ronan must find out who is threatening the clan so Kara can find distant relatives and save their lives and also other innocents. I absolutely loved this book.
Kara is the second woman taken back in time to fall in love with her fated highlander. Her grandmother Alice has died. While going through her things she comes across a letter telling her to save her family but there is one catch she has to travel through time to do it. Ronan doesn't know what to do with Kara. He has too much going on right now to deal with HER too. But once he realizes that she is the love if his life nothing stops him. I liked this book, Kara was an independent woman that knew how to get what she wants. And that is Ronan.
‘Ronan’s Captive,’ was very intriguing. After the loss of her grandmother, Kara finds a letter from Alice. A plea, or rather a last request and investigation to save her ancestors. Pulled into the past, lost and alone, Kara is taken captive by Ronan. As the acting laird of his own manor, as well as his cousins Eadan’s, he is facing bad omens and more treasonous acts. Self conscious about his taking on the leadership mantel... Ronan keeps Kara close. Especially as he can tell she is lying about something... and it doesn’t hurt that he is utterly captivated by her.
Exciting, action filled time travel tale. Kara appears on Ronan’s land at a time of unrest within the clan. Ronan doesn’t believe her explanation as to why she is there and takes her to his home. She struggles with indecision. Should she tell Ronan the truth of who she is? Will he believe her or will he imprison her as a witch? Their journey to victory is a shaky one but with danger looming, they must learn to trust each other. Great storyline, intriguing characters and lots of action made this a book well worth reading. I enjoyed it very much.
Ronan and Kara's story was indeed wonderful but when he took her captive, I began to ask myself, just who was the captive, Ronan or Kara? They were each enamored by the other from the start so is was unclear exactly who was the captive of whom. I very much liked Kara's firey nature and that was her attraction because it was quite uncommon for medieval women to be that outspoken. I liked the prickly relationship between Ronan and Kara. She loved him but at the same time, she wasn't blinded by his shortcomings.
Kara thinks her grandmother had lost her mind just prior to her death, but decides to act out her last wishes anyway. It leads her to the 14th century and Ronan. Can she solve the mystery her grandmother left for her? And what will become of her and Ronan? I received an Exclusive ARC of this book and am leaving my honest review.
I was anxious to read the second book in this series and loved it!!! It was a great story, Ronan and Kara kept me on the edge as their story developed. No spoilers... Must read for your own enjoyment. You won't be disappointed. Can't wait for number 3...hope to be lucky and read it early.
After reading the first book in the series, I expected the second one to have a bit more originality. The main characters just seemed to communicate through lust and sex. No depth to what could have been a compelling read. Not enough description to the day and age. The writer could have done so much more and really brought the characters to life.
Once again I found myself totally involved in the adventure in time travel romance. As these stories continue it would seem that the future women are working the time travel to their advantage. Delightful tales of which I have enjoyed reading.
Kara finds a letter from her grandmother who recently passed away urging her to travel to the past. Is this crazy notion even possible? Join Kara on a journey to the past as she uncovers an evil plot and falls in love with a beautiful Scott.
This is another great book by Stella Knight! I enjoyed it as much as the first one. I can imagine them in the 14th century following for their Highlander. Another great book!
I think I enjoyed this story more than the first book in this series. I kept turning pages looking forward to what was going to happen next. These are short stories. Now, on to the next one.
I received a review copy, this a brilliant continuation of the series, while it does have a different couple to focus on they are in the story and is a continuation and i recommend it to be read in series order.
This is not a bad series indeed. Book 2 is done and I am excited to move on to book 3. This series has a nice balance of history, drama, and smut. Nothing too crazy but highlanders are a thing I can see myself getting behind after this series :)
Fun story about Kara traveling back 600 years. Who new ancient scots were so sexy and quick to fall in love. Includes beloved characters Eadan and Fiona from book 1.
