I got her pregnant, but we were never supposed to meet.
Thirteen years ago, I made a donation that would change my life forever. Now, the kid I never knew has tracked me down...and her mother is the most gorgeous woman I've ever seen. Right from the first moment, there's smoldering heat between us. But we couldn't be more different. She's a shy college professor. I'm a hockey player who can't stay out of the tabloids. Yeah, I'm not exactly what you'd call a good role model. I've made plenty of bad decisions. But helping Helena get pregnant wasn't a mistake--it just might be the best thing I've ever done. And now, for the first time, I want something more. More than a party. More than a one night stand. I want her. I just have to convince her that I've got what it takes to be a good father. To break through that shyness, and win over the woman I've fallen for. We're strangers. But we're still a family.

HIDDEN GEMS ARC REVIEW This story is stretch as far as the set up. An 11 year old hires a detective to find her sperm donor father. Maybe, maybe not. I still enjoyed the story. I liked all the characters but I loved Dom. He was a little insecure about some things, but oh so sweet. When he found out he was father, he was surprised and a little scared. His internal thoughts gave you a good look into his personality. Even though Aly was 11 he had the new parent thoughts flashing through his head. The next big surprise had him going all in. It was really cute. He was protective, sweet and a little over the top. Helena was a shy, professor who had a hard time connecting with others. When she was younger she was home schooled. It was a little better when she was in college. When she decided she wanted kids, she went the donor route. Everything was going well until Aly decided she wanted to meet her dad. They really lucked out when it turns out the Dom is the lucky guy. Things get really interesting.
Just like Dominick had his instant connection with Ali as a parent and with Helena, I was connected with the book. I really enjoyed how the storyline developed, how characters reacted in different situations...i just kept reading until I finished it in one sitting. I hope there will be another story connected with Alton I'm not going to write about the book content because you have the great written blurb for that, I'll just recommend the book for everyone who like to read about instant connections, love, lovely characters (that won't make you wanna hit them for their actions) that will do everything and even more for their family and keep you glued to the book until the last line. I'm looking forward of reading other Iris Parker work
Dominick's Secret Baby (The Promise They Made, #1) by Iris Parker We never know when or even how, but love always manages to find a way. One woman's dream becomes her little girl's hope. Helena wanted a family. Without the option of doing so the old fashion way she took the sperm donor approach. Now ten years later her curious daughter has questions and wants answers. What was once a private matter becomes a bundle of chaos, once the truth is revealed. Parker shines with this hilariously, heartwarming over the top romance.
This book was spectacular and adorable and a definite must read. I can't wait for book 2. Dominick is cute and funny and protective and Helena is nerdy and quiet - both rolled into one amazing package. I think the characters progressed amazingly and the whole point of the book - secret baby - awesome awesome
A precocious preteen goes in search of the sperm donor that is her father. Dominick is shocked to find a little girl waiting for him at the hockey rink one day after practice. Once he sees his features reflected in her face, he realizes she is the product of a donation he made to a sperm bank over a decade ago.
He never thought he wanted or would be capable of settling into family life after being abandoned by his father at a young age. He's spent his time working on his hockey career and engaging in casual hookups when the urge struck. That is, until he meets his daughter and her mother, Helena.
Helena chose to use a sperm bank because relationships never seemed to work out for her. Home schooled after her mother's death, Helena is brilliant but socially awkward, at least in her own mind.
While both Dom and Helena have actively tried to avoid relationships, thinking they will be incapable of maintaining something permanent, as they bond through their shared daughter their initial physical attraction grows into something much more intimate and intense.
As Dom struggles to learn to be a father, Helena struggles to let him into their lives. Dom, a strong and dominant man finds it difficult to let his guard down long enough to share his feelings with Helena and his daughter Ali. As he spends more time with them, it becomes more natural to open himself up. Helena, a strong and independent woman finally realizes that she needs Dom in her life just as much as he needs her in his. Their growing relationship and their interactions seem to evolve naturally, with all of the insecurities and neuroses that come with being human.
The premise for this romance is original and it is well-written, with developed characters. Readers who like a story involving strong women and dominant men will enjoy this story.I liked the development of their characters and especially liked how they seemed to bring the best out in each other.
Dominick’s Secret Baby is a unique and captivating romance sure to melt your heart. The story unfolds when eleven-year-old Ali Bramford decides to find her biological father. While her mother is at work, she steals away from home to come face-to-face with Dominick Henderson, a pro hockey player. At the risk of violating his privacy, Ali comes armed with paperwork that proves he is her father. Dominick can’t deny the claim, with one look at her eyes, she is a mirror image of himself. Both Dominick and Ali have heterochromia, where one eye is blue and the other is green.
Helena Bramford is beautiful and intelligent. As a professor, she’s always felt awkward with men. She gave up on Mr. Right and decided to raise her family. But meeting the father of her daughter, Helena is both unnerved and attracted to the man. The chemistry between Dominick and Helena is undeniable, but how can she tell him she’s pregnant with his second child. From there the plot takes off.
Dominick and Ali hit it off, and though Helena is developing feelings for Dominick while they spend time together as a family, she’s wondering if he can be a real father and husband for the long haul. I didn’t see that twist towards the end coming, and it was heart-wrenching. I was on the edge of my seat wondering how things could be resolved between Helena and Dominick. The story has three POVs giving the story richness of characterization. Dominick’s Secret Baby is great romance with a satisfying ending and swoon-worthy epilogue. A highly recommended read. I received and voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
DOMINICK’S SECRET BABY by Iris Parker is an amazing start to The Promise They Made series. NHL star, Dominick Henderson, always wondered if he had a kid wandering around somewhere from the donation he made at the fertility clinic. He never expected his daughter to show up to introduce herself at his practice. Even more, he didn’t anticipate being attracted to her mother, Helena Bramford, and want to become a family. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult audiences. The story takes place in Boston.
I enjoyed the characters. Helena is a college professor. She was home schooled as a child. As a result, she was socially awkward. Dominick is a great character. I like how he went with the flow of things. I also, appreciated that he wanted to get to know Helena and Ali. I like that Helena and Dominick expands each other’s horizons. You cannot help but like eleven-year-old, Ali. She has guts for confronting Dominick.
This is the first book that I have read by Iris Parker. I enjoyed her writing style. DOMINICK’S SECRET BABY flowed well. It was clever and believable. I enjoyed the fertility aspect of the story. The Heterochromia detail was also interesting. The characters had engaging obstacles to overcome and grew throughout the story.
Dominick’s friend/co-worker Alton Greene went to the fertility Clinique with Dominick. He was very mysterious throughout this novel. I want to read his story next ’s in book two, ALTON’S SECRET BABY. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I really enjoyed this book. Interesting premise for the story, wonderful characters and powerful emotions as the characters deal with the situations in which Ms. Parker has placed them. Helena Bramford is in a panic. Her ten-year old daughter, Ali, is missing…then she receives a call that her daughter is at the hockey arena, but why? Helena rushes to the arena to find her daughter talking to Dominick Henderson, star hockey player with the Bruins. One look at his eyes, and Helena knows who Dominick is. Ali, who is an engagingly smart girl, has found out that Dominick is her biological father through sperm donation. She hired a P.I. to track him down and has gone to meet him and introduce herself. Dominick is in shock, but feelings for Ali and Helena begin to stir, making him think that maybe having a family would be good for him and them. I don’t want to reveal too much more of the book, but there are more surprises in store for Dominick and Helena as they try to determine if the attraction between them is real or just from their unique situation. Ms. Parker has more drama in store for the couple and this book was so hard to put down. I had not read anything by this author but hope that Alton’s story is in the works (hint, hint). I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
A fun, heartwarming twist on the secret baby trope.
Dominic's Secret Baby starts out with a prologue that had me sucked in from page one. Dom had an instant family he knew nothing about, immediate attraction to the mother of his child and a past that had him second guessing whether he should be a part of their lives. Helena feels intensely drawn to her daughter's father, but has a huge secret that could destroy their budding relationship. This book has so many swoon worthy moments, intense feels, and panty melting scenes that you won't want to put it down. I was, at times, laughing, crying, cringing, and /or yelling at characters in the book. Definitly don't start this right before bed. I lost the battle of the "just one more page" game and read it cover to cover. Not sure if there is enough coffee to sustain me, but the lack of sleep is totally worth it. I immediately 1-clicked Alton's (Dom's next friend) story. I loved the writing and character development and couldn't pass up the chance to get to know these characters more in the next book. The only reason that this book didn't get 5 stars is because there were a few missed proofreading opportunities that had me rereading sentences to make sense of them. Overall, this book is a must read... Also a must are tissues and dry knickers. 😉
I read quite a lot of different romance genres and don't usually prefer the contemporary ones because they seem to all have more or less the same plot and ending. But I really loved reading this book. It's the first book I've read by this author and I look forward to reading more. It has a totally different plot, the writing was excellent...never choppy, I loved the characters (fell in love with Dom!!), it made me laugh, smile, or had me at the edge of my seat. I definitely couldn't wait to find out what the end would be! The only reason I gave it a four star is because I would have liked for the book to have ended with Helen's, Dom's, or maybe even Ali's point of view and not Alton's. I understand why it was Alton's...a way to introduce the next book, and maybe there wasn't much more to say about their happily ever after, but it disappointed me. I guess I just didn't want their story to end! Other than that, a great, fun, sometimes emotional read. I would, and have, recommended the book and author to friends.
Dominick’s Secret Baby by Iris Parker is a 4 star read. Helena is a hard working single mother to an 11 year old daughter, when she comes home from work ready to start summer break she finds her daughter missing and starts to panic. A phone call letting her know her girl is safe starts a chain of events that bring a happiness to her and her daughters life she wasn’t expecting. Dominick plays pro ice hockey and while at the rink one day a young girl who looks familiar but isn’t comes up to him and tells him he’s her father, Dom is in shock, he had an absentee dad and figured he wouldn’t be a good dad so didn’t plan kids in his future but the more he gets to know his child and her mother the more he realises he wants more from life. This was a great story, well written and the characters felt like friends, so you are wanting them to find happiness. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I read Iris Parker’s Alton’s Secret Baby a while ago and loved it. While not labeled as such (and to be fair it totally works as a stand-alone), it turns out that this is book 2 of the author’s The Promise They Made series. Two of the characters from that story, Helena and Dominick, were clearly making a cameo appearance so I simply had to get my hands on their own book. That book is Dominick's Secret Baby and Oh My Dear Lord was it ever wonderful. Beautifully plotted and written, with a great cast of lead and supporting characters, this book totally appeased my sports romance lover cravings. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next The Promise They Made book.
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
This book starts out with you thinking "How can an 11yr old do that?" As Ali tracks down the sperm done her mum used to get her.
Both Dominick and Helena both have issues, Helena is used to doing things on her own and at the start does not trust Dominck and takes a while for her to act on her lust.
Dominick seems to change almost overnight upon hearing that he is a father and becomes a father to an 11yr old, whilst falling for the mother. Both parents could have sorted their issues fast IF they had taken to each other, but then we would not have had the angst throughout the book.
Dominick may not think he is father material, however that are a few scenes where he shows how much he is, and Helena ends up having to fight a little to get what she wants as her forever happy after.
Dominick’s Secret Baby by Iris Parker is a very well written book. Emotionally authentic, all characters are explored as they learn about one another and begin their journey to creating a family. I loved the beginning, as well as this unconventional storyline! Ali, the precocious preteen; Helena, the socially awkward beauty and brains; and Dominick, the gentle giant alpha. Iris Parker writes from all three perspectives, but focuses on Helena and Dominick for the majority of the book. While very different, the two have much in common, self doubt and negative self talk. I loved this book and can’t wait to read Alton’s story next. It’s sure to be just as emotionally charged and chemistry fueled as this one was. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader Copy of this book to share my honest review.
Dominick's life is a little stale. Hooking up with random women doesn't really interest him anymore. Everything changes in the space of a few minutes when the eleven year old daughter he never knew about shows up at the rink where his team practices. What follows is the story of Dominick falling in love with not only his daughter but also with her mother Helena. It's not completely smooth sailing but this romance has lots of heart and I simply could not put it down. I actually stayed up all night and read it in one sitting because I just couldn't tear myself away. I loved the characters, and both the writing and the story are great. I can't wait to read the next book in the series which focuses on Dominick's friend, Alton. I loved this book a lot!
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I was given this as an ARC in exchange for a voluntary honest review. I did enjoy this book. I loved the storyline it was great, I like how Dominick helped his friend a few years back when he was going through a rough patch. After that he became famous playing ice hockey. being in the news for all sorts of reasons but never anything nice. Cut along stories short he had a daughter call Ali by a woman called Helena, after using his sperm that he donated, while helping his friend. I just don't understand how an 11 year old was able to hire a private investigator, and was able to get all the information about who donated the sperm, that her mum used. It was a great book. When Dominic and Helena meet the connection between them is instant and the chemistry was hot. I loved the flow of the book and how it turned out. Was very well written, great characters. Highly Recommend
Teenager Ali Bramford is going to be in so much trouble with her mom Helena Bramford. She left to house to talk to hockey star Dominick Henderson because the private investigator that she had hired with her savings had identified him as her father.
Dominick's Secret Baby is very different from other secret baby stories because Dominick had donated sperm a long time ago and thought that the confidentiality statement he had signed would prevent his being identified. Plus the secret that Helena has makes the story go off in a different direction that I was expecting.
If you like secret baby stories this one is very different and worth reading!
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
What a read when your young daughter wants to meet the man that is her father and she tracks him down and it none other than playboy hockey star Dominick. And to make matters even more interesting you are pregnant again with another one of his secret kids and the fertility clinic you used is supposed to be anonymous how did your daughter find out. Helena has her hands full and what she really thinks about Dominick may not even be true because once he meets the young girl he does not leave. Plus there is an attraction between Dominick and Helena. Ali is just overjoyed to finally have her father in her life.
Will this family get their hea even with these odds against them. I voluntarily received an arc copy of this story for my honest review.
Very good story! Both characters are settled and in their lifestyles, though they are very different they have similar self-doubt issues. They are at peace with their short-coming, their story digs deep and brings those things back to life so they can decide whether to deal with them or keep them buried. The secret was the drama but I really like how the author twisted the revelation, it was an eye opener but others things seen them on a tailspin and they are forced to focus on "us". They are both proud to a certain extent but the real issue is can they open their hearts to a love they never thought they needed or could even have? Romance with substance, loved it!!! Definitely looking forward to Alton's story too!
I truly loved this book. Baby books are aright in my top three! Dominic is such a great guy. He just goes along with the flow when he could be such a total loser about the situation. When Ali finds him, its such a violation of his privacy its unimaginable. How he handles himself is amazing. Helena is such a worried mother, As any mother would be in these circumstances, but she chugs along for Ali’s happiness. Can they both find a happy ending in this total mess of a situation? Can trust be actually found? I mean a stranger in your lives. A mom’s love should never be underestimated as her protective side. This book truly was great for me. Im going to look up more of Iris’s books and see if something shoots my fancy. Enjoy!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Hidden Gems What an absolutely fantastic story. My first read by this author and it’s a definite “wow factor”. When pro Hockey Play Dominick finds out he has a “daughter” Alicia .....shock is an understatement. After giving a sperm donation years earlier, he never thinks it would come back to confront him. Then he meets her... Helena, Alicia’s mum...phew as if things couldn’t get more complicated or hotter, she is one beautiful, caring, sexy woman. Only one problem, Helena is hiding one big secret. Loved how caring and loving Dom is to Ali , listening to her, doing Dad things with her just as a dad should but Helena is a different challenge. Lots of drama, emotions, danger, romance and so much more . Loved it
Helena made a decision that would impact her world 12 years later when her daughter decides to find out who and where her father is. Eleven year old Ali is a force to be reckoned with, she adds so much to the story as she is the force that leads mother and father to their HEA love story. Self sufficient Helena has built a happy life with her daughter, till her daughter finds her father Dominick, when he sees her running across the ice with a guard chasing her,he knows she is his. But he knows they must let her mother know she is safe. On meeting they both find themselves drawn to each other but fight it for Ali's sake. It is a good story from beginning to end. And I can't wait for his best friend Alton's story.
Great story. It’s simple but well written, so I just wanted to know what will happened after. Ali goes to find her father Dominick. He’s a hockey player. The only problem is that he doesn’t know her because her mother, Helena, had her with an artificial insemination as a donor. When Dominick meets Helena, he doesn’t know how to react to this woman because he’s attracted to her, but with a daughter taht he wants in his life, the relation is different than what he had lived before. What he doesn’t know, is that Helena has another of his baby growing in her tummy. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
It was a freebie, fortunately for me. Starts with a good plot, but the almost cartoonish characters prevented it from delivering its potential. The H is a sports star, sperm donor and his super smart daughter has tracked him down. Her mother starts as a great mother, smart - she's a professor, brave enough to create the family she wants using sperm donor. But once they meet, and they have sex, her character changes - it is as if she lost her mind. She becomes weak, a liar and a coward. The story is then rounded out with an OTT incident that no parent would allow. Just too silly - even for a freebie.
Hmm. Where to start well lets hit the highlights first shall we; hockey player Dominick and his friend Alton made a small donation ages ago. All is fine until one day a kid he never knew he had shows up. Now this is where everything takes off. New to fatherhood, attracted to the single mom with a secret and so much more drama, lust, romance, and learning curve of parenthood crash course.
Was a great little story, cute, made me laugh and almost cry it was so good. Dominick turns out to be a be at guy when he's not being stubborn. Besides it ends with a happy ever after can't be sad about that!
I feel in love with the story of a smart 11yr older who wanted to find her sperm donor father. Her mother Helena is expecting a second child with remaining sperm. Ali doesn't know this and on her mother's last day of school takes a trip down to the ice rink to meet her father Dommick. Let not Ali fool you, I mentioned she's super smart - she has copies of all the legal paperwork, she a little "hacker" - her mother gets frantic but eventually finds Ali and Dommick. A love story ensues with all the ups and downs, tears, confusion and love?
I received this as an Arc and was extremely happy I did. I recommend it to anyone who loves a HEA and the knitting together of a loving family.
Iris did a great job with this story. When Ali shows up at the hockey rink, all she wanted was to tell her father who she was...she never expected what would happen next. Dominick is a wonderful father to Ali, and his reaction to the new baby coming was perfect. If only he could see what a fantastic father he is. Selfless and caring are only two aspects to this man. He’s amazing and when his life starts spiraling, it’s understandable that he goes into a depression...and it takes a near miracle to pull him out. I’m voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.
This was a fast moving story with some twists. She was a fertility clinic baby and was determined to find her biological father. Turns out he the arrogant pro hocky player who is a real player. Meantime her mother is now pregnant again with his sperm. Talk about drama and drama. Well written with likeable characters and a happy ending. Chemistry that's off the charts and a fun read. I read a reader copy via Hidden Gems and voluntarily chose to write a review.
She was shy and not out in public like most kids as she is growing up being that she was home schooled. So when she wanted a family she used a sperm donor. Not being up on relationships with men. She had a daughter who is a pre-teen now. She gets curious and somehow figures out her dad is a hockey star and goes to see him. Well it goes on from there. Lots more in the story. Very well written and well worth reading. I was given a review copy and voluntarily review it.
