5☆ A Warm and Endearing Festive Romance!

LOVE AND LIES AT THE VILLAGE CHRISTMAS SHOP is a Festive Romance with endearing characters and plenty of fun and drama.

Ivy and Holly are twin sisters.
Ivy has now taken over her mother's All year round Christmas Shop, after she passed away.
Holly has two young children and no interest in the shop or Christmas full stop, she never has done.

Ivy is struggling to make ends meet as having a Christmas Shop all year round doesn't necessarily appeal to all.

So when a mysterious stranger walks into her store one morning, Ivy is about to have her whole world thrust upside down.
Who is this handsome stranger and what does he want?

I adored this gorgeous book, I always love Portia's books, she has a wonderful knack of storytelling with alot of heart.
She has a way of bringing her characters to life and captivating her readers, and this book is no exception. It's simply charming and full of festive sparkle.

There is plenty of mishaps, drama and mayhem as Ivy fights to protect her Mothers legacy.
But who will come out on top!

I loved Ivy's and Seb's budding friendship, despite the fact that they was in competition with each other you could feel the chemistry buzzing between them.
I loved their cheeky flirty banter and sass it definitely had me giggling.

Oh and I forgot to mention, don't read this on an empty tummy. The food is scrumptious and mouth watering. Ivy is a wonderful cook.... they say the way to a man's heart is through his tummy 😉🍰🍪

The characters are endearing, quirky, likeable and fun you can't help routing for them to suceed.

Marram Bay was a delight to read about, I felt like I was part of the village.
For me the idea of a Christmas Shop all year round is a magical dream and Ivy's shop was like a wonderland of magic.

The plot was intriguing and captivated my attention the whole way through.
LOVE AND LIES AT THE VILLAGE CHRISTMAS SHOP is an absorbing read that's beautifully written, full of warmth, charm, a sweet and endearing romance and an absolute joy to read.

If your looking for a warm, witty, feel good, festive romance, thats perfect for lifting your spirits then you will love LOVE AND LIES AT THE VILLAGE CHRISTMAS SHOP!
So grab a hot chocolate, a cosy blanket and prepare to be whisked away to Marram Bay.

Thank you to Isabel at HQ Digital for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Ivy is trying to save her mom's Christmas shop. Seb wants to tear down the shop's building to make way for his redevelopment plans. Ivy has been so focused on keeping the Christmas shop afloat, that she's put her dating life on hold. Seb is so focused on work, his love life is also nonexistent. They'd be perfect for each other, if they weren't working against each other. As Ivy's employee would say, "it's a catch-33 situation".

Ivy and Seb are both witty and sarcastic; perfect for this story of the enemies-to-lovers trope. As soon they met, I had high hopes for the story. I also enjoyed the seaside town and its close-knit community. Overall, this is a fun story full of love and Christmas spirit.

Ivy loves Christmas, which is good since she’s the proud owner of Christmas Every Day, a shop where it’s—well, Christmas every day. However, while she adores running the store in her mother’s memory, sales have been slumping and bills are piling up. Everything changes when a mysterious businessman, Seb, waltzes in and spellbinds the tiny town of Marram Bay, promising new holiday homes and a bustling economy. All he has to do is knock down the Christmas business and he’ll have the perfect spot. But Ivy won't let her shop go without a fight, even if Seb is ridiculously charming.

There’s nothing quite as quaint as a Christmas store and author Portia MacIntosh pulls out all the stops to ensure Christmas Every Day is deeply alluring. Christmas trees in every corner, baubles in every cranny, and bit of a cheeky Santa all make an appearance in this festive story. Moreover, Ivy is running her dream business, passed down from her deceased mother, raising the stakes and making her completely compelling. Ivy is a hardworking, delightfully jolly woman who grounds the entire story and gives it its heart.

This is not to suggest that the rest of the cast is slouching. What good is a Christmas read if it doesn’t have quirky secondary cast? Holly, Ivy’s twin sister, hates Christmas and needles Ivy about her lack of love life. Gaz, a trained actor and professional Santa, doesn’t totally understand workplace etiquette. Then there’s rest of the town, which struggles with wanting a change for the village while also not wanting to betray Ivy. It’s a series of plots that expertly intertwine into the perfect present.

Of course, then there’s Ivy’s main foil, and MacIntosh deserves extra praise for her handling of the slick Seb. His appeal is apparent and his actions are realistic and understandable while remaining completely frustrating. It’s an impressive execution, leading to a desire for Ivy’s business to succeed, Seb’s to fail, and their obviously budding romance to blossom—each thing contradicting the other. The end result, though, is something deeply satisfying.

This is a perfect Christmas read, blending the romance, nostalgia, and confusion so abundant in the season. In a way, MacIntosh has crafted a book that feels like I imagine Christmas Every Day would. It’s brimming with expertly packaged holiday cheer while holding an underlying warmth and tenderness. Simply, it’s pure love.

Note: I received a free ARC of this book through NetGalley.

I have a huge and rather embarrassing confession to make- yes I know that this is fast becoming a habit. Although I have several of Portia’s books on my ever increasing ‘TBR’ (to be read) mountain, I haven’t actually read one yet. Sorry Portia. However after finishing reading ‘Love & Lies At The Village Christmas Shop’, I now know just what I have been missing and I can guarantee that they won’t be on the mountain for very much longer. I absolutely ADORED ‘Love & Lies At The Village Christmas Shop’ but more about that in a bit.
I have to say that I found it extremely easy to warm to the character of Ivy, an apt name for somebody running a year round Christmas shop. Her mother used to run the shop before Ivy took it over following her mother’s death. Ivy adores Christmas and she has done for as long as she can remember. Ivy couldn’t be more different from her twin sister, Holly, if she tried. Holly hates Christmas (a girl after my own heart) and I could certainly agree with her sentiment. Ivy used to love helping her mother in the shop and she wants to carry on her mother’s legacy. Ivy doesn’t seem to have much of a personal life as apart from the shop, her twin sister and her niece and nephew she doesn’t seem to have much else in her life. The hobbies Ivy does have are mostly solitary and if she isn’t busy working in the shop then she can usually be found with her nose in a book. I think part of me empathised with Ivy a bit because like her most of my hobbies are solitary pursuits and my idea of heaven is having a cup of tea whilst reading a good book. Ivy and her livelihood are under threat as her landlord wants to sell the property so that he can emigrate to Australia. The interested party is somebody who is a property developer, who plans to knock the house/ shop down so he can build holiday cottages. Ivy doesn’t take this threat lying down though and she tries to get the money together to buy the shop for herself. Ivy is stubborn, feisty, determined, she has a vivid imagination, she has an idealised view of romance and she is very funny, even when she isn’t trying to be. By the time I had finished reading, I really did feel as though Ivy was a friend and she would be a fantastic friend to have a gossip with over a cup of tea. Does Ivy manage to save the shop? Will Ivy be swept off her feet? Well for the answers to those questions and more you are just going to have to read the book for yourself to find out as I am not going to tell you.
Oh my this book was a fabulous read, which came at an ideal time for me. I was in need of a light hearted, funny and ultimately romantic read to distract me from the pain I was in. This book certainly proved to be a distraction although I ended up laughing so much that I felt more pain, which kind of defeats the object. The author knows how to grab your attention and much like a fisherman with a fish, she reels you in. That’s what happened to me anyway. I soon became hooked on reading this book and I have to say that I didn’t want to put it down. I desperately tried to ration how much I read in one go because I didn’t want to finish the book too quickly. That intention soon went out of the window because I was enjoying the author’s writing style, the storylines and the characters so much that I just couldn’t stop reading. It seemed to take next to no time at all to get through the book but in actual fact a few hours had passed. Usually I have the attention span of a gnat and I am easily distracted but not in this case. I was able to focus solely on the book and on the book alone. I didn’t even take notice of my two Labradors which didn’t go down too well and cost me a few dog treats.
It’s fair to say that I absolutely adored reading ‘Love & Lies At The Village Christmas Shop’. It’s one of those perfect festive reads which will definitely get even the most Ebeneezer Scrooge like person in the festive mood. This book has a perfect mix of drama, fun, romance and there are laughs aplenty. As I alluded to at the beginning of my review, I can 100% guarantee that Portia’s other books will not be waiting to be read for much longer. I would definitely recommend this author and her books to other readers. I can’t wait to read what she comes up with next. The score on the Ginger Book Geek website is a definite 5* out of 5*.

Jolly, big-hearted, and delightfully fabulous!

Love and Lies at the Village Christmas Shop is an amusing, heartwarming tale that takes us back to Marram Bay and into the life of the thoughtful, optimistic Ivy Jones as she struggles to keep her mother's Christmas shop alive and out of the hands of the mysterious, yet charmingly handsome businessman who's suddenly moved to town.

The prose is polished and effortless. The characterization is spot on with a cast of characters that are unique, fun-loving, and adorable. And the plot is an irresistible blend of heart, humour, nostalgic moments, family, friendship, tension, loyalty, attraction, chemistry, wonderful shenanigans, community spirit, and Christmas cheer.

Overall, Love and Lies at the Village Christmas Shop is nothing short of magic. It’s a light, funny, wintery treat that’s deliciously absorbing and hands down one of my favourite holiday reads of the year!

Thank you to Portia MacIntosh and HQ Digital for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Easily my favourite Christmas book of the season so far - this one has all the elements I love in a feel good Christmas story - a fight to save a business, an open all year round Christmas Shop, a pair of twins with very festive names and differing personalities, a sexy businessman that is cast in the bad guy role, a cheeky chappy playing Santa, and all the festive food you could ever want.

In fact the scene involving the Christmas Cake tasting was hilarious, although I have to agree with Ivy's feelings on the subject of Christmas cake.

I really don't know where to start in extolling the virtues of this book, it really was a purely pleasurable way to spend some time, with the residents of Marram Bay. If that is a familiar sounding location to you then you will be right, it was the setting for Summer Secrets at the Apple Blossom Deli but apart from a few cameos from those characters, this was a wholly brand new story that can be read as a standalone.

This has easily shot to the top of my favourite Portia MacIntosh books list - its has Christmas, it has a shop, food, relationships, banter, humour, a kissing booth, some sweet children and fabulous writing. It had me smiling from ear to ear throughout.

Holly and Ivy are incredibly different twins and for Ivy who is trying to save her shop from its seemingly inevitable closure, trying to keep their mother's memory alive, and giving her niece and nephew a christmas to remember, she is also worried about Holly as she seems to be hiding something.

There are three main men in this book - Gaz, Seb and Santa. Yes Santa gets a big part, but that's because having him in a Christmas shop makes a lot of sense, as does all the other things that Ivy tries to raise the money to stop Seb from demolishing her shop. Seb is the smooth developer who appears to be charming the whole town, but also getting under Ivy's skin. Then there is Gaz who I believe has heart of gold even if he shows it in not the best ways. I really liked Gaz, even if some of what he did wasn't quite what Ivy wanted.

And then there is the shop at the heart of the book - easily my favourite shoop of all the fictional ones I have read about this year (of which there are many). It is Christmas every single day in the shop, and it sounded amazing. I could really picture it and wanted to jump on a train up to Marram Bay to visit for myself.

This is a wonderful story, it has certainly made me very aware Christmas is coming, without necessarily giving me the warm fuzzy feeling of the season - but is definitely a great way to ease myself into getting more and more festive!

I'm almost ready to start hunting down the Christmas music and film channels on TV, but its only September so I'd probably be disappointed. But what won't disappoint is this joy to read story that I adored every second of.

Thank you to Netgalley and HQ Digital for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I had never heard of this author before but now want to read more of her books as if anything like this one be worth it as simply brilliant and hooked from the first page and was so heartwarming and romantic and finding what it is you want from life and about families. It's written so well and fabulous from the first page and really didn't want it to end. Full of Christmas in many ways and so beautiful and amazingly well written. Worth far more than the five stars and high recommend anyone to read it. It is an easy read but with quality content and you really think you are there in the beautiful village.
Ivy just loves Christmas and following in her mums footsteps. Her mum opened a Christmas shop that is open all year and when she dies ivy takes it over and lives in the flat above the shop. The shop isn't doing as well as it could do but she's happy. Her sister holly is the opposite and hates Christmas she has two children but her husband works away so hard being on her own. Everything is going well but one day a handsome man walks in to the shop called Seb he says he's moving to the beautiful Marram Bay and Ivy does feel her heart skip a beat when she sees him. Problem is she soon gets a phone call from the owner of the shop saying he's selling up as moving away and he's got a buyer but sadly it's Seb who she loved and he wants her out as he wants to change the whole area in a holiday park. Can Ivy save the shop and move forward as she doesn't want to loose the shop as its really her mums and she can't let her mum down. She comes across many hurdles when trying to raise the cash but by employing Gaz in her shop he has ideas to pull the people in. Know one is happy about what Seb wants to do but Ivy still has feeling for Seb but so cross as well will he change her mind about getting out and giving the shop up or will she stuck it out and stay in the shop or will she realise that the building isn't what hold memories of her mum they are in her heart so can she compromise with him. Can they both be happy and get what they want and can they find romance or not.
Simply so well written and you just curl up and read it in front of a warm fire and think of Christmas an amazing story.

The Blurb :
Ivy loves Christmas. As owner of Christmas Every Day, the year-round festive store, you'd expect nothing less!
The only thing missing in Ivy's life is a dash of romance – something her twin sister Holly will not let her forget…
When her mother passed away, Ivy vowed to take over the running of her mother’s store and keep the Christmas spirit alive in the idyllic seaside town of Marram Bay.
But all this changes when an enigmatic businessman moves to the town, threatening to bulldoze her beloved shop to make way for holiday complex.
Can Ivy save her shop before Christmas? Could there be a different side to the newest resident of Marram Bay that would make all her Christmas wishes come true?

My Thoughts :
I am a huge fan of Portia MacIntosh, so I was thrilled to see she had a Christmas release coming out.
Here we meet Ivy Jones. Ivy inherited the Christmas Every Day themed shop from her mum that sits in the village of Marran Bay.
Ivy has a twin sister Holly, who is married with 2 children. Holly is completely the oposite to Ivy and hates Christmas.
Things are not going too well for the shop and even in the busiest month of December business is quiet.
Enter handsome businessman Seb, who has big plans for a new holiday complex which includes buying Ivy’s shop to knock it down. Will Ivy manage to get together the money to outbid Seb or will this be the worst Christmas for Ivy that sees her losing everything!?.
This has an array of interesting charactors that you will take to your heart, its full of fun, laughter, friendships and love.
I really enjoyed watching the relationship between Seb and Ivy develop.
This certainly gets you in the mood for the festive season, this was another cracker by Portia MacIntosh.

I quite liked this christmassy chick-lit but Ivy was too much for me. Especially in the end I wanted to scream at her! So irrational and the same train of thought a hundred of times. Poor Seb is really too good for her. However I liked the setting and the town of Marram Bay and would read something set there again.

A heart-warming and festive offering from Portia MacIntosh, this story filled me with love from head to toe. What’s not to like about an enemies to lovers sort of story set around Christmas?

The story centres on Ivy‘s mother‘s Christmas shop, Christmas Every Day, which, as you can guess from the name, is open 365 days of the year, selling everything that is Christmas. Holly, Ivy‘s twin sister, is the antithesis of Christmas and it has fallen Ivy to keep her mother’s shop going. However, when smart businessman Seb arrives in town, this spells trouble for Ivy, particularly when she finds out that her landlord needs to sell up. Seb is the one looking to buy the land and now suddenly Ivy’s home, business and memories are under threat. Who in their right mind would kick someone out of their home at Christmas time?

I love the characters in this story. Gaz in particular was so entertaining and I loved his cheeky manner. He is Ivy‘s sidekick in all of this, especially when him and Ivy try to find ways to deter Seb’s business plans. They cannot deny that Seb has charmed the whole village with his business proposals, except no one seems to be supporting Ivy in terms of where she lives and what happens to her business.

Yes, the story is predictable, but I think that’s what makes it so sweet. It is true Macintosh style so I think fans will really appreciate this novel. The romance doesn’t really kick in until later in the novel so it is the case of “will they? or won’t they?” throughout the story and wondering how far this enemies relationship will go. After all, Ivy is just as passionate about her business as she is about Christmas. Can Christmas Every Day be saved?

This was a quick read and I think it was just right. All the festive elements were contained with Christmas markets, warming hot chocolates and of course, Santa Claus. The supporting characters were all part of this warming scene and I enjoyed the closing chapter as we saw exactly what happens to Ivy and her shop.

With thanks to HQ for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A rom-com; slow to start, a little predictedable and frustrating at times, due to the 'true happiness lies in a relationship with someone else' messaging, but with many laugh out loud moments, and sometimes great dialogue - I was happy to keep reading!

An easy read with fun and likeable characters. Nice way to pass the time on a rainy day.

Ivy and Holly are two very different twins – while Holly hates Christmas, Ivy lives and breaths Christmas. Their mum has started a Christmas shop that is open all year round and after her death Ivy takes it over – and she couldn’t be happier to work there. However, the shop is now in danger, as the owner of the building is selling up and moving away. Smooth operator Seb enters the scenes here – he wants to buy the place, demolish the shop and build something else there. Moreover, he’s very charming and it looks like the whole Marram Bay is under his spell. Ivy tries everything to raise the money to keep her shop – but can she save it?

I thought we’re going to hear more from the characters from the first book in the series but except for one or two scenes including Lily and Prue there was nothing more – this book totally focuses on brand new characters that I immediately grew fond of. I loved Ivy – she was probably one of my most favourite characters ever, such laid – back and relaxed and full of the greatest one – liners, and so, so realistic and real! I really felt as if I can reach out with my hand and touch her.

An open all year round Christmas shop – isn’t it a brilliant idea? And it was only the first festive thing in this novel. We then have twins Holly and Ivy, all the festive food you can think about, decorating trees, Christmas Festivals, Santa shenanigans … and yet it was not too festive overwhelming, thanks god, however a brilliant start to all the festive books slowly coming my way, tadah. It was full of brilliant, incredibly funny scenes and the tasting the Christmas Cake will probably stay with me forever, as well as the kissing booth and golden retriever, to name only a few.

Portia MacIntosh has a talent to create characters that are full of life and that rarely give up but are also realistic, and it was the same this time as well. Ivy, living and breathing Christmas, was so optimistic and so bouncy and it was impossible not to like her. I absolutely loved the way she was thinking and how fair she was, she wanted to save her shop but she was also willing to take another look and see other options – however, I also loved the fire in her and that, even though she’s seen those other options, she always came up with brilliant ideas to help her keep her mum’s heritage. She was smart and funny and not taking herself too seriously. Her sister Holly was an absolute opposite of Ivy re: Christmas but as likeable as Ivy. The one and only Gaz and his never – ending attempts to chat up a girl and on the other hand such a lovely Santa. And Seb with his Lamborghini and plans, such enthusiastic and down – to – earth – all of them, as well as the supporting characters, were absolutely fantabulous and incredibly easy to like, even if they were planning on demolishing some beloved shops or trying to sabotage those plans.

There was of course a hidden depth to it, and it had some very poignant moments, but on the whole it was a funny, entertaining novel. The banter between the characters was so natural and easy, the writing style was light – hearted and I was hooked from the very first page till the end. It was heart – warming and oh so romantic without being too saccharine. A lovely story about families, relationships, chances and finding what it really is what you want from life. It was not too complicated and a little predictable but full of other perks that made me appreciate it so much. Don’t be surprised when you’ll feel like curling up in front of your fire – place with a cup of hot chocolate and looking to put your Christmas lights on when reading “Love and Lies at the Village Christmas Shop”! Truly recommended.

Well this is definitely the most festive book I've read in a long time!

We are introduced to twins Ivy and Holly (See? Festive!) who have differing views on the joys of Christmas. Ivy adores it and has a shop 'Christmas Every Day' that is literally how it sounds selling festive goodies all year round.

Ivy took over the shop from her late mother and also lives on the premises so you can imagine her horror when it is announced that new guy in town, the suave sounding Seb, has bid for the property and plans to turn it into a holiday resort.

Ivy vows to come up with the money to outbid Seb but will her plans go awry? Or can she save her home and business? Indeed will she fall for and share mistletoe kisses with Seb? I thought it was brilliant reading about some of Ivy's money-making ideas for the shop and would so love to visit it myself! Ivy was as good a business person as Seb I thought with some very clever plans.

I did see where the book was going but was still delighted with the ending, it was exactly what I hoped to happen through the course of the book but I won't add any spoilers...

This was honestly perfect for those who love all things Christmas - I so enjoyed reading about all the scrummy treats, decorating trees and the Santa shenanigans! The book was very funny in places, in particular I found Ivy's colleague Gaz to add welcome comedy value.

First time that I read a book from Portia MacIntosh and I must say that I really loved this book! One of the best Christmassy chicklit book I have read so far! This very festive book is a lot of fun to read. There are a few situations happening in the book that made me laugh out loud. I also liked the fact how Ivy never gives up her dream to keep her Christmas shop alive even when this beautiful business man wants to destroy it. This book is also about family love. And finally to top it all, there is a beautiful romance happening in the book. I recommend this book! I will definitely want to read the next book of Portia MacIntosh!

This is one fab Christmas story! I fell in love with Seb and Ivy and really wanted the best for them both. Plus all the mentions of cinnamon lattes and gingerbread truffles have left me very excited about making lots of Christmas goodies!

This is the first book I have read by this author but I have since found that this isn't the first book in this series. Even so it can be read as a stand alone. Now I can't wait to read more!

Great book, nothing better to get you in the mood for the festive season. What could be better than Christmas every day? Ivy is upholding her beloved Mums memory running the Christmas shop in the village. What will happen when hunky Seb offers to buy the site and redevelop it? I won’t put any spoilers in. This is a light hearted fun book full of Christmas sparkle, romance and fun. The author has woven Christmas magic all the way though the lovely will they won’t they tale. Enjoy!

Well this is splendid, what a great way to get yourself into the festive spirit! I will admit that this is ashamedly the first book I have read by Portia MacIntosh, where have I been to let this wonderful author pass me by? Anyway, I will definitely be seeking out more of Ms MacIntosh’s work because this was wonderful.

For Ivy there is nothing better in this world than Christmas, she loves it’s, breathes it and lives it everyday something that she shared with her dear late mother. So it will comes at no surprise that she runs a Christmas shop; ‘Christmas Everyday’ which used to belong to her mother. Situated in the little Yorkshire town of Marram, Ivy has vowed that she will always be here and run her mother’s shop as she would have wanted it to be run.

I really like Ivy, she gave up a lot for the Christmas shop and her family, she gave up a brilliant carer as a chef, everything she has done has been for the shop and her family. She is a glorified book worm, she is more than happy sitting quietly in a corner reading. She is by far one of the most selfless women, she has given up her dreams of being whisked of her feet by a handsome stranger, her entire life solely revolves around the shop and I for one can relate to her. At times Ivy was so real to me it was like reading about myself, I have never related to a character as much as I have Ivy she spoke to me on a level I have never experienced before, I understood her. This for me is what makes this book such a winner, Ms. MacIntosh has created this real and likeable young woman who is very normal. There are no airs and graces about Ivy she is a normal, working class young woman who is in need of a boost of self confidence.

But all is not fine in the shop, Ivy is struggling to get people through the door other then at Christmas. After all not everyone is like he and her late mother, some are like her Christmas hating twin sister; Holly. Honestly you never have though that these two completely different women were even related let alone, twin sisters, they are like chalk and cheese and in many ways I think people will relate to Holly just as much as Ivy. She believes that there is more to life then Christmas trees, decorations and carol singing and she worries that her sister has given too much for their mothers Christmas shop legacy, I can see her point of view too. When Ivy finds out that he land lord is selling the shop to a mysterious stranger who wants to turn her precious mothers shop into holiday lets she now must fight for her mother’s legacy and for herself, especially once she meets the very man who could change her whole life.

Seb and Ivy are such a cute couple, even though they are in competition there is a lot of flirting, giggles and good natured bantering between them. He is a sexy, confident and kind man who knows what he wants and will do what ever he can to get it, even though that does sounds as though he is ruthless, but to me I think it’s more the fact that he is a charmer and everyone falls under his spell.

I have to say that even though Seb is mightily attractive and a decent man, I was more drawn to the rough around the edges, heavily tattooed and a but scruffy Gaz, and it has nothing to do with the fact that as soon he appeared in the book I envisioned Tom Hardy, oh, alright it has more or less everything to do with that 😉 he’s a bit gruff, but there is something very enticing about him.

Love and Lies and the Village Christmas Shop is a light-hearted, witty and seasonally perfect romance. The plot is fun, easy to read and entertaining, there is a lot of laugh-out-loud moments to be had, especially from the witty banter from all character’s. The cast of character’s are each brilliant in their own way, each one has his/her own style and quirkiness that you will instantly love. Ms. MacIntosh’s writing is a real joy to read, there is a lot of passion for the story and the character’s that really comes through in the story.

An utterly charming and feel-good festive romance that will have you reaching for the hot chocolate and fluffy socks and settling in for the night.

Love And Lies At The Village Christmas Shop by Portia Macintosh is a wonderful feel-good contemporary novel that focuses on the importance of family and memories. Every day we have the opportunity to not only look back and smile but to make new memories. The warm glow that Christmas brings shouldn't only happen just once a year but every day.
The novel is a learning curve and a journey of discovery. "Some people put so much emphasis on things... but at the end of the day, it's just money that gets you those things. Money can't buy you a family." Once again this week, I was reminded of something our pastor Leon Evans said "some people are so poor, all they have is money." Money cannot buy you love, only stuff. Where will you aim the focus of your life?
Loss hits hard. No matter how warm our memories, sooner or later we have to face the fact that we need to adapt to a new 'normal.'
Progress may be shunned as we love to reminisce and look back fondly on the past. There is a glorious future ahead if we would but try it.
Written in the first person, the reader becomes intimately acquainted with the characters through the eyes of the lead character Ivy. It feels like we are walking through the novel rather than outsiders looking in. The style is warm, witty and engaging, drawing the reader in from the start.
Portia Macintosh is a 'new' author to me but I loved her writing. I shall certainly be hunting out more of her books.
Love And Lies At The Village Christmas Shop shows that we do not need to wait until December to experience that festive feeling - we can enjoy Christmas every day with this wonderful novel.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

Absolutely loved this! The whole developer moving into a tiny village storyline is one of my guilty pleasures. I love finding out how different authors handle the problem this creates between two lead characters.

Portia MacIntosh has a flair for writing lovable characters. Even the characters that make a tiny appearance in her stories are memorable. Come on a golden retriever at a kissing booth? Visuals in my head for days, thanks for the smiles.

Snowmance is also one of my guilty pleasures. I do love a good romance that's set at Christmas time or surrounding a Christmas themed shop. This story has both of those and the romance is sweet and a slow burn.

Great story to cozy up under a blanket with. I read this in one sitting :)

A very Christmassy story set in a Christmas shop in Marram Bay. Full of love, laughter and Christmas. Ivy runs her late mums all year round rented Christmas shop, Seb is looking to relocate and build some holiday homes. This is their story of finding love where it’s least expected and the fun and games they have coming to a wonderful romantic conclusion with each other or someone else? Enter Gaz, a young, lovable Casanova who plays Santa Claus and Charlie, he local vet who loves to introduce herself to all new good looking men. Put your feet up, grab a cuppa and snuggle down for an irresistible, unputdownable read.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was such a wonderfully festive read. It’s set in a Christmas shop where the festive atmosphere sprinkles its magic 365 days a year. When they lose their mum, Ivy has a strong need to carry on with the family business and realise her mums dreams. Her twin sister Holly wants nothing to do with it.
She is up against a developer wanting to redesign the whole site where the shop is situated. Ivy needs to come up with a huge pot of money to save her business.
I loved the characters. Her resident Santa is so amusing! The idea of a book set in a Christmas shop is just the ultimate setting for me. I can imagine the clockwork decorations and twinkling fairy lights and the shop window beckoning you in.
It’s such a heartwarming read.

Ivy has always loved Christmas and when get mother dies she takes over the family business the Christmas shop, as her sister Holly isn't interested. The shop however isn't doing well as a new road to the town has been put in and they no longer get the passing trade, and then Seb moves into town making the landlord an offer he can't refuse on the land so that he can build a new holiday complex........ but as much as Ivy would like to hate Seb she can't so she will just have to fight him to keep her beloved shop.

A lovely story with great characters and full of fun. Seb and Ivy were both people that you take to and so you are rooting for them to sort things out. A good lighthearted read.

Hey, well if you love Crimbo then this is the book for you
‘Christmas Every Day’ is the shop Holly and Ivy ( twins ) were brought up in and now their Mum has died Holly runs it...but the business is failing...enter Seb an ‘out of towner’ kinda Brad Pitt meets Channing Tatum who is looking to redevelop land to build holiday homes.....need I carry on??.....he wants the land where the shop is...but theres a spark between them as Holly tries her best to keep it, then a kiss, then, well.....how will they unite their love with the impending sale 😃
All this set in a dreamy chocco box village where there is a home made jam shop and a headmistress called ‘Mrs Snowball’, a loveable rogue Gary who is the shops Santa,Crimbo fairs snd Christmas Cake competitions along with as much tinsel, baubles, trees and mince pies as you can handle
A dreamy, lovely book, cosily written which brought a near forgotten Christmas’( I sound old but its all changed now hasnt it ) back and gave smiles, raised eyebrows and fun
A very different read for me and hard to mark as usually do but marking on the criteria that it did as was meant to do it has to be a 10/10 and 5 stars
