Award winning author Rosie Hendry lives by the sea in Norfolk with her husband and two children. East End Angels is the first book in her uplifting and heart-warming saga series that follows the lives and loves of Winnie, Frankie and Bella, who all work for the London Auxiliary Ambulance Service (LAAS) during the Blitz. Listening to her father's tales of life during the Second World War sparked Rosie's interest in this period and she loves researching further, searching out gems of real life events which inspire her writing.
The second book in the East End Ángels series and I loved it just as much as the first one . We are back with Bella, Winnie and Frankie as they continue working as ambulance drivers during the 2nd world war . As we read through the book we experience what life was like during that war time and the efforts people like the East End Ángels put in to do their best to help the people effected by the bombings. Of course it’s not just their work we read about but also their personal lives too. A wonderful read .
the second book by this author, Eastend angels Winnie, Frankie and Bella. this book follows on starting in january 1941 and sees us through out the war year. all girls working as ambulance drivers doing their work, we find out the lives of the three girls battling through emotions with family and loved ones. i loved this second book very much just like the first. it pulled at my heartstrings from start to finish. i am so looking forward to the next one now and hopefully it wont be long.
The crew of Station no75 are back and Frankie,Winnie and Bella are still driving ambulances while the country is at war.I have loved reading about the crew at station no75 the story of their lives during war was so heartening.Frankie has had deal with so much but she had her friends by her side, winnie and bella with the help of their boss.Winnie's mother hasn't changed still determined to marry winnie off to some posh that she chooses, but the winnie i love has chosen her own path with the closeness of connie, harry and james. The story of station no75 is one i have loved reading and most definatly worth 5*
It was like catching up with old friends reading this book. The friendship of Winnie, Frankie and Bella from station 75 is still as strong as ever. There are some sad moments, but they are all there to help each other through and there are some lovely heartfelt happy moments too. It was a shame to say goodbye to them at the end of the book, but fortunately with have the Christmas book to look forward to.
I loved this sequel to East End Angels it's like revisiting old friends and it's a pleasure to pick up and read. Although it's fiction I'm sure it's based on fact, the horrors of war are paramount but the friendship and love that the girls have for each other and the job shines through.
Continuing the saga of the 3 Ambulance girls in London's war torn East End. Another good story that flows well with a few twists and turns. A really nice read and recommended.
Absolutely brilliant to catch up with the girls from Station 75 once more. I had thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, and I soon lost myself in war torn London once more. I found this an exciting read, never sure of what was going to happen next with their busy lives. Such a thoughtfully written book, with lots of interesting information about life during the blitz and how the Londoners coped and tried to carry on with normal life despite the horrific attacks, almost on a daily basis. I love historical fiction and this book is so wonderful at capturing my imagination and for teaching me about the sacrifices that were made by so many. Some sad moments but ultimately I found this an uplifting story that has me itching to read the next one in the series.
Another wonderfully written book by Rosie Hendry. Loved her first book.East End Angels. This book was equally as good., follows on the story of East End friends Winnie, Bella and Frankie. Can’t wait for book number 3. Follow the lives of all 3 best friend, as they go about there lives in and out of work. All 3 work in the ambulance service burying the blitz on London... the books are very addictive reading just have to carry on reading to see what happens.. 5 stars loved this book as much as the first one. Can’t wait for more.
absolutely loved this second book by Rosie, this is a sequel to the East end Angels where we catch up with Winnie, Frankie and Bella and their colleagues at Station 75. I'd highly recommend this to anyone especially those who prefer wartime sagas. I hope there's going tobe a 3rd in the series and soon!
I have now read both this stories one after the other and loved them both. I loved learning about the ambulance service and the heroic people. Thank you Rosie. If ever you want to tell us the story of what happens to them all after the war. I know lots of us would love to read it. A must read.xx
Can their friendship see them through the darkest of times?Meet The East End Angels, the newest members of Station Seventy-Five's ambulance crew London, 1941. Frankie, Bella and Winnie are settling into life as ambulance crew members, doing their bit to help the war effort. The threat of air raids are a constant worry, but life continues regardless and the weight of responsibility weighs heavy on each of them.Frankie's grandfather is unwell and she promised him she would always look after grandmother Ivy, but the two women have never seen eye to eye. Then Frankie discovers something that makes her question everything she thought she knew.Winnie's natural leadership puts her at the forefront of the station and she's soon making the difficult decisions on call-outs.As she is exposed to a higher level of war and destruction, she begins to wonder how much more London can take - but how much more can she take?Bella is beginning to drive the ambulances, she is growing closer to James and her love for writing is opening up new doors for her. Then she receives devastating news about someone close to her and things begin to unravel. As life and war continues to test the East End Angels, will love and friendship be enough to guide them through the darkest of times? The work of the Transport of Wounded Department, in particular, was highly important as it involved the challenging mission of supplementing ambulance vehicles and personnel overseas and at home, and ensuring help reached those in need in a timely manner. The personnel often had to work without the usual comforts of heat and running water, or the basic safety from bomb shells and sufficient rest between shifts. Most of the women were already highly skilled in first aid, driving fast and efficiently in warzone landscapes, mechanics and ambulance repairs, and comfortable working without peacetime luxuries.Women developed rapidly in the role and, most would successfully get promoted from nurses and ambulance drivers to officers very quickly, excelling in their service and overachieving their goals.
If you want a beautiful book on World War Two that is both positive and heart touching then this is the one. I loved this one even more then Rosie Hendry’s first novel as I just fell in love with Frankie, Bella and Winnie even more, and how their struggles transported me to a high level of empathy and love towards them. Such a joyful read about the impacts the war has on those left at home, but also a firm reminder that despite what we believed about the war, the lives of the people amongst it carried on and tried to retain as much happiness and joy as they could, for it could be so quickly snuffed out. A truly beautiful read which has me wanting more.
This is the second book in the series by this author and although it’s been a while since I picked that book up I still remembered the story once I read the first few chapters. I love the characters in this book and find myself being so invested in their lives and how they are feeling. I love the authors writing style anyway but always find her writing to be comfort for me so I always enjoy her books. I felt like this book covered a lot in terms of the storyline but I was never disappointed. The only thing which made me drop this down to four stars was the fact the book was quite long and I’m not sure if that was really necessary but either way I really enjoyed it.
Another wonderful book in Rosie Hendry’s East End Angels series. Having listened to Rosie talk, I know the research and dedication that goes in to these books. Rosie has trawled through old maps and books about life in London during the Blitz. Her books are a true insight in to the daily lives of those wonderful people who worked for the London Auxiliary Ambulance Service, as well as being full of love and hope during these difficult times. I can’t wait to dive in to the next instalment in the lives of Winnie, Frankie and Bella!
I have loved this book. Following the lives of the East End Angels, I personally think they end too quickly, or I am just devouring the series too quickly? :o)
I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading about the lives of the women during WWII and the jobs they took whilst the men were fighting on the front line. You become part of it and its like you are there with them as their story unravels before you. I can't wait to get stuck into the next book in the series.
The story continues with the crew of the ambulance station where they continue to do their role during the war as London is continually under nightly attacks. As in the first book there are heartbreaking scenes and losses especially for one of the team. I loved reading this one as much as the first one and am looking forward to starting the next book in the series.

This was the second in this WWII series and I enjoyed it as much as the first - the three ladies who work the ambulance services have their challenges and heartache as the war and the Blitz continue. Despite it all they still find reason to hope and so find joy in their lives. Moving onto the next!
This is the second book in this series about the girls in the ambulance service during WW2. It was good to meet up with all the familiar characters that were in book 1 and I particularly loved the camaraderie between the characters it certainly made the book very interesting and inspiring.
Really enjoyed the second book about Station 75. This continued the story of best friends Frankie, Bella & Winnie, some heartache along the way for all three of them. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
This story has everything, death, animals, gardening, romance, tension and unpleasant people. I really enjoyed it and look forward to completing the circle with the Christmas story.
The story of Frankie, Bella and Winnie is an insightful one. You do get a real insight into what life was like in London during WW2. The story flowed but at times I found myself thinking back to previous pages on who people were and how they fitted into the story, there is a lot going on!
Loved this series by Rosie Hendry about 3 best friends in ww2 all their trials and tribulations of working and living through war excellent read can’t wait for the next book
