I knew I needed to read this story once I caught a glimpse of its blurb. I'm a sucker for a second chance romance, especially when the people are still very much in love, which was the case for Kaden and Sadie.

Kaden was a rock god! He had an irrational ex-wife, two teenaged daughters, and he was head over heels in love with Sadie. Unfortunately, he was the only one. When tragedy strikes, he has to make a choice and he breaks both of their hearts in the process. Separated from the love of his life, his existence is lackluster and he's suffering. But so is Sadie. After months apart, Kaden gets a call that turns his life upside down - Sadie's in the hospital in critical condition. He drops everything to remain at her side and if she makes it back to him, he's intent on never letting her go again.

Claudia Burgoa always finds a way to wrap my whole heart in her stories. They touch some part of me that makes me feel vulnerable (something I hate), yet powerful at the same time. This story was full of drama, angst, music, high emotions, heartache, and so much love. The road to forever for Kaden and Sadie wasn't easy. Their path to forever was hard-fought for and beautifully won.

The book is well written.

I wasn't a fan of the hero, but I didn't hate him. He loved Sadie/the h a lot, no doubt.

Sadie was overall nice, very kind and very forgiving person. I liked how she challenged him at the beginning, but I wish she made him work harder for her forgiveness at the end.

My main problem was H's older daughter Tessa. Damn, I couldn't stand her.

They said she were a child and her evil mother manipulated her... But when a 16 yo fakes suicide attempt and hurts her father and his pregnant fiancee, who was always only kind to her, I expect the adults to 'punish' the 'kid'. But nope, everyone told she were so young and it was her mother's fault... Yes, her evil mother was hateful, but a young girl at 16 should have her own mind and don't do such stupid things. I totally get why the h didn't want H's daughters around her newborn baby, I wouldn't have wanted it too.

Of course it was sunny and happy at the end... why not?!
Sorry, but it was implausible for me. Tessa needed to be treated harder - therapy for a long time, maybe even boarding school with strict rules and discipline.

Call me cruel and heartless, but even kids can be a$$holes and the lack of punishment only encourage them to behave that way in the adult life too.

Angst and highly emotional is Claudia Burgoa's specialty and in My One Regret she's in top form. I don't want to give away anything out this plot because it was perfect and masterly laded out for us from start to finish but get those tissues ready because if you don't tear up while reading this story I wanna know what does make you cry... I wanted to physically hurt Kaden a few times throughout this book and hug Sadie and tell her it will be OK. Invested is an understatement to how I felt about these characters that I didn't want to put this story down till the last chapter. 5 "Hummingbird" Stars for My One Regret by Claudia Burgoa

Claudia Burgoa is a new-to-me-author. Recently, a friend of mine recommended her to me because she was releasing an angsty rockstar romance which is probably my favorite trope. So, my friend told me that I was going to absolutely LOVE the story and I would regret missing the opportunity to read and review My One Regret. And wouldn’t you know it…She was right!!! Now I am kicking myself and wondering why I have not read Burgoa previously because My One Regret was just phenomenal! This story was a rollercoaster of emotions that left me utterly enchanted. As a rock legend, Kaden Hades never expects to meet his soulmate in a coffee shop. Only he has, and now he has to prove to her he is nothing like she’s expecting. Only after years spent building their lives around one another, Kaden’s teenage daughter drives a wedge between Kaden and Sadie. A wedge he allows to be the proverbially nails in the coffin of his relationship with Sadie. Now, after a car accident leaves Sadie in a coma and at the mercy of those who would just give up on her while she’s defenseless, Kaden will stand as the ultimate blockade. Fighting for her with every breath in his body. Will he get a chance to right his wrongs? Or will he live with one regret for the rest of his life?

As my first book by Claudia Burgoa, I have to say I am blow away. My One Regret was absolutely stunning. It’s angsty and heartbreaking as well as super sexy. As far as heroes go, Kade was delicious. His dedication and commitment to Sadie was beautiful…even if he was also the same man who left her to put his daughter first. His decision to leave gutted Sadie and yet she still loved him; still respected the reasons behind his decisions. Sadie was classy and sassy – a beautiful soul that you just wished were real! She was one of those heroines that was effortless to love. Also, Claudia made it easy to understand the drawl that Kade had to her. Together, the two were DYNOMITE! Although the story is a bit of a slow burn, it’s sexy as hell!!! Regardless of the ease with which a rockstar can get some, Kade was that star who had outgrown groupies. He was willing to put the work into his relationship with Sadie to secure a strong and steady foundation for their relationship. Without a doubt, I loved Kade and Sadie as Claudia described them. I wanted more of them when the story was over…

description

My One Regret was heartbreaking, and I was consumed by a vortex of emotions. The story is told in a series of chapters set in both the past and the present. In the past, readers feel the depth of emotion as both Kade and Sadie fall deeply in love with one another. As well as in the present while Kade fights desperately to give Sadie’s body time to heal. Another reason I was so blow away by Claudia’s book was the sheer beauty of her words. I read an advanced copy that was publication ready and free of spelling/grammatical errors which is rare. Her thoughts were clear regardless of the back in forth between perspectives and timeline events. Often this gets confusing for the reader and takes additional attention to detail that can distract from the story. Only, Claudia penned a story that left me complete enthralled - I literally could not put it down.

description

Claudia Burgoa absolutely knows how to ensnare readers with an exceptional story and outstanding characters. I can not wait to read more by her in the near future. If you are new to her, like I was, now is the time to grab a copy of My One Regret. Don’t miss out on this story… or it might be your one regret…

I skimmed from around the 30% mark to call this done. I struggled with the writing, the overblown clichéd melodrama and ridiculous endearments the zero and heroine used for each other got on my wick. And when I say endearments I mean Snuggle Bunny, Booboo Bear, Hummingbird, Nightingale, Little Minx, Sadie Wadie Woo, Cuddle Bunny, Little Fairy - not sure if there were any others, my eyes had glazed over by then.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Everything bar the kitchen sink was thrown in to this story including the crazy psychotic ex !! Who. The. Eff. does that? Seriously, I really wanna know. Then, throw in a bitchy so called BFF, abusive childhoods they BOTH had, addiction, a rock star aka "Booboo Bear", a martyr heroine aka Saint "Sadie Wadie Woo", a pussy of a zero who dumped the heroine then claims she was his "soul mate" who he will love forever, a secret pregnancy, a near death experience, a heroine who comes around from a coma and is as bright as a button and starts arguing with said zero (again .... seriously??) 😳 Shoo! I'm exhausted after all that.

I'm thinking I read a different book from everyone else because my rating is nothing like the others out there and for that reason I'm being overly generous with my 2 star rating.

Favorite Quotes:

I’m too old to be kissing toads, knowing they’ll never become princes.

Sadie was an open book, and yet as strange as the deep blue sea. She was starlight with a hint of darkness. A beautiful chaos that drew me into her world.

Your smile brightens my day. You’re the sun. I’m a sunflower who follows you along.

I forgot that life is a sequence of beads of many sizes, colors, and textures. Just because I encounter a few ugly ones, doesn’t mean that it’s over.

My Review:

I don’t know what it is about Claudia Burgoa, but she seems to weave a magical spell that holds me spellbound to her angsty books, despite my typical abhorrence and aversion to stories that features some of my least favorite tropes. She has mad skills and wicked word-craft. She also employed clever humor, endearing and nuanced characters, and deliciously sensual love scenes to balance the angsty narrative. I adored these characters and their complicated and heart squeezing love story. She was his Hummingbird and, as was befitting as he was a singer, he was her Nightingale. Yet they also teased by firing off creative and amusing nicknames that frequently had me smirking, such as Sugar Tush, Poochie Doo, Puddin’ Knickers, Poopsy Doodle, Muffin Bun, Sugar Booger, and Mr. Fudge Nuggets, just to name a few.

1 ⭐- Ugh! Didn't like it or triggers or pet peeve!

Our heroine was discarded as trash and thrown out of the hero's life.
I did not like his attitude and she's a fool.
His daughters and ex-wife cause drama and separation.
I could not forgive him and his eldest daughter.
Meh!

Just earlier I was getting a mani-pedi with his daughters, Hannah and Tess. For the first time, I believed that things were going to settle with them. They had finally accepted me.

The only thing I know is that I kept pouring out love, hoping that one day it would be enough. But it’s over.

Three years of loving her, caring for her as if she were my own doesn’t count. I’m still nobody.

“My children are my life. My reason to exist. Their wellbeing matters more to me than anything in the world.” More than me, I finish what he can’t say.

His children will never accept me. His ex will always poison them against me.

Alicia was right. He has a family, you’re just an intruder passing through.

“You’re the love of my life,” he murmurs close to my ear. “My perfect half. But I can’t put my children in danger.”

Booze was my closest companion until my ex-wife used it against me to take my daughters away. That sobered me up for a while.

My ex had been a hardcore groupie, and I was too young and only cared about getting pussy. The joke was on me when I learned that Id knocked her up.

“I learned my lesson. I won’t marry anyone just because there’s a kid. In fact, I’m debating having a vasectomy.”

“Hmm, never thought about sending flowers when I cheated.” Sadie came to a complete stop and glared at me. “You’ve cheated?”

“Would it make it better if I said that Alicia did it first—with one of my bandmates?”

“If you don’t love someone, you call it quits before you hurt them. Taking the eye for an eye defense doesn’t make it any better.”

“Sometimes I’m the one who has to leave because the other person is hurting me.”

“I love you,” I confessed, releasing the three words I had never told a woman. “Kade,” she whispered, her arms wrapped around my back. “You don’t have to say that.” “But I mean it,”

But the fear of losing Tess the same way that I lost my sister blinded me. Alicia’s threats to take away my daughters made me react.

Alicia took a step forward and slapped Sadie. “You killed her!”

The moment you decided to push Sadie away and deal with your family, you told her—” “That she wasn’t family.” “Exactly, and that your daughters were yours to deal with—not hers. Sadie tried her best to be a friend, a stepmother.

You’re asking a woman who just had a little chat with the Grim Reaper herself to welcome the spawns of Satan back into her life.” “They are my kids too.”

Another hero that needs a brain transplant…STAT! He falls for/allows/enables his horrible daughter’s behavior then is shocked when she tries to commit suicide as a means of manipulation so he’ll get rid of the heroine. Which he does. I’m not going to get into the parents shoud put their children first argument as I don’t think it applies here. The heroine finally gets out of her coma and poor hero is so insulted that she doesn't trust his daughters not to hurt the baby. The daughters that lied and covered the suicide attempt.

Mucho drama with bad parents all over the place, a heroine in a coma, a bad dad that wantsto pull the plug because this coma thing is inconvenient, extreme spoiled and bratty behavior, another mother that’s alcoholic, and an evil best friend that promises the heroine “will pay” but disappears and is never seen or heard from again. Did she channel her soul into the H’s ex-wife?

And yes, there is a romance in there somewhere, but it’s covered by all the other drama.

Ok, I’ve survived a stroke but my kindle didn’t make it after I threw it on the wall with all the power accrued after 300 and something pages of rage read.
Now I’ve loaded my guns and sharpened my knives and I’m ready to cut this book into tiny little pieces, as it deserves.
My new kindle is on the way, I hope Amazon delivers it to me tomorrow.
I think I’ll spend more time on this review than on the reading because, really.
- I think this is one of the worst book I’ve read in some time.
It’s a very sad thing because the writer is not bad at all, the writing style is not the worst you can have, besides some repetitions that could have been avoided. I don’t know how many times the hero’s lungs collapsed, and his heart stopped beating. He should have died a thousand deaths - all of them deserved.
- I read some really cheap stuff sometimes, with cheating and abuses, but it’s so very clear that they are abuses that there’s no mistakes or misunderstandings about them so I’m fine with it. The writer doesn’t have to persuade me that shit is chocolate, she tells me that shit is shit and I have to deal with it.
- here the writer tries to persuade me- failing miserably- that shit is not chocolate but gold, indeed!
And I must be very comfortable with it!
- the hero and the heroine have been a couple for three years, they are going to get married and the teenage daughter of the hero tries to commit suicide. The reason she gives is that she hates the heroine.
- ok I’m a therapist here and what should a parent do when something like that happens? Go to therapy with his daughter and her mother. The daughter must have single therapy too, with maybe a stay in a hospital detached from her environment, if there’s a danger that she may repeat her act. What does the zero do? He dumps his fiancée of course.
- he does what his daughter wanted him to do. And. This. Is. The. Worst. Thing. To. Do.
Because he loves the heroine? No not for this.
Because if you allow a teenager with suicidal behaviors to have her way once you reinforce that behavior that she will see as winning, so next time she wants something she will do it again.
Simple as breathing.
You get it?
No therapist to tell him that? That it’s not only wrong but also dangerous to comply with emotional blackmail especially when it comes from self harming behavior????
I can’t believe it.
- oh, the heroine was a social worker who dealt with children with emotional issues, should have known that they absolutely didn’t have to break up just because of that.
What did she do instead? She agreed with the hero that it was better if they broke up. And she dared say that she loved him more because he was putting his daughter first!!! But this was not putting his daughter first! He was behaving like a coward! He was showing his daughter that she was the stronger one, the one ruling him, and this is another awful mistake that parents never ever have to do: parents have to rule and children have to listen and accept, this is the natural order of families, except in cases of abuse, but this was not one of them. The truth is that this zero was an awful father, who left his daughters with his ex wife that was an abusive psycho and that pushed the daughter to take the pills!!! He should have been strong, he should have stayed with his fiancée and showed his daughters that this what he wanted and that they had to accept it, no matter what. If parents let children rule this can cause damage to their mental health.
- this first part was so wrong and, let me tell you, you don’t have to be a psychologist to understand that if a child throws a tantrum- or acts out like in this case- because she wants something their parents don’t have to give up, or else next time they will do the same!! It’s basic!!! Children do it all the time, they throw tantrum and if they succeed they repeat. Basic.
- so I found so- stupid and inconceivable- that two adults like hero and heroine, and one with psychological notions too- would behave like two scared brainless idiots.
No, no, unacceptable.
- then, months later the heroine is hurt in an accident and the hero finds out he’s a father of a lil boy, so now he wants them back.
- no, again, no! Too little too late!!!
- oh, the heroine by the way was an abused child, her father left her when she was a child with an alcoholic mother who abused her for years and when she met the hero she was very very careful because she didn’t trust any man.
- so the balless man charmed her with useless words and idiotic nicknames that - really- made me want to vomit- and promises of love and eternal fidelity that, of course, he didn’t keep. He was disgusting. Disgusting because he insisted so much that she was the love of his life, that he would never ever leave her, that she must trust him but at the first issue he dumped her and oh, he never tried to go back to her in six months.
- can you imagine the damage he did to the heroine??? After how difficult it was for her and her trusting issues???
- and then he’s back and she let him back in her life because.
Because!
- no, no there’s not even a grovel because hey, she won’t have it. He cut her out of his life without a single thought and she told him, yes, I know you had your reasons.
- what the f***????
No!
- and then the final part was rushed with the daughter apologizing and the heroine telling its all right and then telling the hero she wants him back because you know life is now and you don’t have to ruminate on the past.
No, you definitely don’t but this doesn’t mean that you don’t have to learn from the past, and that is that if your partner, the man who gave me diabetes with his excessive sweetness and platitudes, throws me away without a thought this means his love is only words and no fact.
- badly dealt from every single psychological pov. Very very bad.
- not to mention the shallowness with which are dealt some major issues. Her father that, when he learns she’s in a coma, wants to unplug her sustenance because so he won’t be bothered and then he suddenly becomes the most caring father of all??? First he hated the zero all his life and in five minutes they are bff. Wtf??? Where does it come from?
- the hero never apologizes and never tells the heroine he would have been back even without their child. No, we actually understand that he’s back only because they have a boy, the boy he wanted instead of his two girls, probably.
- oh, and her mother? Where’s her mother? Once she’s out of her rehab, then she’s nowhere.
- heroine’s bff in the beginning, a limpet that should have told me the kind of martyr spineless idiot the heroine was, vanishes in the ether too, while she was everywhere one minute before. No explanation given.
- this book exudes lack of true love and real lasting feelings. It teaches that love can let you down and is never to trust, never to be taken seriously, that promises are not to be kept, that courage is not a virtue and the most arrogant and the bully always win. It teaches that you vows of love aren’t worth anything. That the more you hit people the more you get.
- it’s sad and wrong. True love is strong an never faltering, it is peace and harmony, and the most powerful weapon is to stay together always, in good and bad times.
- the most infuriating thing is when a man with no value and worthless in every way that counts is portrayed as a good man, almost a hero. He is worthless. You can’t tell me he’s a good man, he’s not. And he doesn’t love the heroine, or he wouldn’t have left her like he did. She will never come first. She won’t be his partner, his true companion. I wish the writer spared me the bullshit that they are true mate. No way.
- I don’t blame the daughters. They are teenagers and manipulated by their psycho mother, they are not guilty. Their father is, for being a coward and an incapable parent.
- shallow and bad way to deal with peoples feelings. The dialogues are robotic, there’s no growth, no insight, no understanding of how they work out issues.
- 10000000 negative stars. I’m done and I apologize for this awfully long review. I’m taking some beta blockers for my pressure!

Check out this 2021 review, it's so long you just know i was furious 🤣🙂‍↕️✋🏻

/2021/

Here i'm, reading this even though i hate single parents in books. It's always a lose or lose with them, huh? Either they are terribly irresponsible parents, or they are so meek that they let the ex-wife trample on them. And for a change, she and children make life miserable for the new wife.
A disaster.

"Babe, wake up. We have a fucking mess on our hands."

No, motherfucker. Don't ask your ex-girlfriend who's in a coma to wake up to fix your damn problems. YOU HAVE A FUCKING MESS ON YOUR HANDS, NOT HER. She has to wake up to be with her baby, the rest does not concern her because they are YOUR DAUGHTERS, not hers. If your daughters have a problem, then you solve it on your own Kade, do not involve anyone else.

"But I love her. She loves us"

Says Kade's daughter Hannah. A bit arrogant, don't you think, brat? You didn't see her for 6 months after your father abandoned his fiancée, but do you already swear that she still loves you and do you have any right to see her in the hospital?
I will hit myself before I allow my ex boyfriend's daughters to visit me when I'm so badly injured and in a coma. Just no.

"I'm sure Sadie would be happy to hear your voice," I assure her.
Sadie adores my girls.

Now you, arrogant motherfucker. Sadie adored you and your daughters when you were together.
(They broke up six months ago!!!!!!!!)
Sadie was pregnant and didn't tell you about the baby, tell me Kade. Did really think that didn't mean anything? That nothing changed?
If I fucking do not tell my ex that I am having a child of his, MEANS THAT I NO LONGER WANT TO SEE THAT PIECE OF SHIT IN MY LIFE AND BOTH HE, AND HIS DAUGHTERS, CAN GO TO FUCK.

I hate the fact that the hospital didn't tell Sadie's parents that she's in a coma.
Like, everyone is waiting for permission from ex-boyfriend Kade, and he doesn't want to tell Sadie's parents because "he's the only one who cares about her"
Yes, motherfucker, but you lost your right to decide who can or can't visit Sadie when you dumped her.
Does this man excuse really sit there and allow his people to make a list of who can stop by to visit Sadie and who can't? By what right?
He thinks he owns her life because he swears that no one else cares about Sadie.
And if so, you left her Kade, why the hell would you think she wants you there, as responsible?
Also, even if his parents are fucking hitmen, he has no right to prevent a visit BECAUSE THEY ARE A FAMILY AND YOU DON'T BELONG, YOU LEFT IT.
And the man who left her, does he really swear that no one else cares about Sadie like him? At this rate I feel infinite pity for Sadie. If that's the man who loves you the most in the world... poor girl, she has nothing.

I finished this book, I couldn't even read that epilogue with how disgusted I was.
1. The hero's eldest daughter, Tess, is a 16-year-old jerk in serious trouble and shouldn't get away with being a "teenager." Actually, at 16 I was mature enough to even raise my own baby. In my eyes, there is no justification for a 16-year-old idiot to behave so badly.
She constantly treated heroin badly and was a fat rock in her father's shoe.

2. The fact that the heroine, Sadie, felt bad when the hero and his girls cut her out of her life? Bitch, be grateful you had six months off from that troubled family. No sane woman would accept them.
Sadie really regretted not being able to take care of the girls, and not helping them with their problems... PFFFF. Bitch, THOSE GIRLS DON'T WANT YOU, why the hell would you want to play the role of sweet stepmom for them. Who in their right mind would like?

3. The fact that Sadie nevertheless had the son of the hero bastard. Well girl, I admire you. I would have aborted.

4. The hero was good for nothing. Really. It wasn't doing anything right. He wasn't a good father, he wasn't a good boyfriend, no... NOTHING. Man, it would hurt to be so worthless.

5. The fact that the heroine wanted her space when she left the hospital and returned home, but the hero was not going to leave her side because he wanted the baby and wanted Sadie back. Kade's motherfucker wasn't going to move out of Sadie's house, because he doesn't respect her decisions, OH FUCK BUT WHEN KADE DROPPED SADIE? She had to swallow her pain and leave without looking back.
How do men get away with it, so bad? They will never respect our decisions and that just made me hate Kade.

6. While Sadie was in a coma, Kade was about to buy Sadie's inheritance house because he truly believed that once she woke up, everything would go back to the way it was before and they would live together. Motherfucker, if I wake up from my coma and find out that my ex bought my home as an inheritance because he has this crazy idea that I'll wake up and get him back? I just finish him off. Again that masculine arrogance. Fuck, how did Sadie not kick him?

7. The fact that Sadie was pregnant all these months and Kade wasn't aware of it, but when she had an accident and she had to deliver the baby, DID KADE REALLY CHOOSE THE CHILD'S NAME?
Motherfucker, you were not present throughout the pregnancy, but did you feel that you had the right to choose the child's name? Sadie was still in a coma, so she couldn't.
Of course, that was the name they chose years ago when they were together, but they were no longer a couple anyway. He must have waited for her to wake up to speak it and see if she still wanted to call him Kieran.
I do not.

8. The fact that Kade stayed at Sadie's house to help her because she was still hurt, and to take care of the baby, but that he still brought all his problems with his daughters and the ex-wife, to Sadie's house?
And to top it, he said things like "we will solve it"? No motherfucker, YOU have to work it out. IS YOUR FAMILY. Don't give her your load now that she's badly hurt. You didn't do it before, you kicked Sadie out of your life, but suddenly you think you can come back to your problems when she's vulnerable?
I was honestly glad when Sadie grew a couple of eggs and forbade Kade's daughters from seeing her brother Kieran. I was glad for that. She was smart enough to know those crazy bitches are dangerous.

9. Of course, all my respect died chapters later when she re-involved in Kade's family life, hiring therapists, helping him at trial, inviting his daughters to live with them.
Bitch, just let that useless family die.

That's all. Shit book.

I came across this baby on an “OW Drama” group over on Facebook and I was so stoked to read this one. And let me tell you, the breakup that happens in the very first chapter of this story was a punch to the gut, and I was LOVING the gutting feels.

Then chapter 2 started, and all the angst completely evaporated. The first half of this book was agonizingly boring and felt so long. Literally nothing happened. It was just a REALLY long and boring back story (through Kade's memories) of Sadie and Kade’s getting to know each other (PRE BREAK UP).

From the moment Sadie first met Kade and throughout the first 60% of this story, Kade's memory of Sadie came off as prickly and bitchy, and that made it really hard for me to warm up to her.

On top of that, I got to experience nonstop, ridiculous and cringy AF nicknames that Kade and Sadie called each other. 🤮🤮🤮 I think the nicknames were supposed to be super cutesy and endearing as they teased each other, but instead they were just REALLY fucking annoying.

At 65%, Sadie has been in a coma for most of the story and Kade has regurgitated all of his memories of their past time together before he dumped her so rudely. And at this point in the story Kade’s ex wife FINALLY makes an appearance, and I’m getting really excited for that OW drama everybody was talking about . It’s finally happening!!

Well, not really. The kids tattle on their mom’s (the Ex) evil shenanigans of the past, and the Ex sends a few nasty texts to Kade threatening him not to get back with Sadie just because she’s had his kid. That’s about it for the drama of the story.

I know this is totally just me having high expectations in this book that didn't pan out, but the story wasn't actually bad. Maybe it's a little boring, but it was actually fine if you are just looking for a sweet second chance romance. But if you are like me and are looking for a story with lots of OW drama and heartbreak because you read this story has it on FB, well….

Every now and then, I actively seek out books featuring couples who are "on the rocks". Maintaining a healthy and happy relationship takes work. If done well, I enjoy romance novels that explore the ups and downs. I appreciate when people actually take accountability for their actions. I love a good grovel.

The hero, Kaden Hades (and naming a hero after the Greek god of death is befuddling), made unbearably stupid decisions. But that didn't bother me as much as it bothered other readers. Maybe because I'm an equal opportunity blamer, and I thought that the heroine, Sadie Loza-Bell, also had some epically stupid moments. Kaden's actions weren't unforgivable, at least not in my opinion, and I could have enjoyed the book despite his (again) unbearably stupid behavior.

What bothered me the most? The DRAMA. My One Regret had it all - and not in a good way. Sometimes less is more. Although it could have been moving it was ultimately annoying, inducing eye-rolls over tears. The characters weren't poorly developed, but they often operated like cardboard cut-outs. The dialogue was frequently stunted. The behavior was wholly unrealistic.

There were also some very bad women in this, like cartoon-ishly bad, and it made me uncomfortable. The men found redemption, but the evil ex-wife, the jealous best friend, and the alcoholic mother? Nope.

I did enjoy certain things about this. The premise allowed for some delightfully heart-wrenching moments, and I liked reading about the heroine's flower shop. But overall, it didn't work for me. And I regret that.

Reread- I still felt myself getting bored during the flashbacks, but I do think a more patient reader that craves angst could love it. I'm still not a Tess fan and will NOT be reading her book. I get her mom was nutso, but I felt like she was old enough to make better decisions. They were rich and her dad was supportive.... she had options.

I felt like the author made excuses then gave her a new personality which didn't work for me. It's one thing to be shitty towards the future stepmom, but at the start of the book she's lying/ pretending to be in Europe and go to therapy, so he'll send their awful mother $$. I would think a daughter would be more protective of the "nice" parent... not shitty.

3.5 Rocky Road Stars
I’m gonna own it, I clicked this book because the cover model resembled John Snow at first glance. Yep, I can be that shallow. 🤣 Needless to say, I was thinking dragons, and this is about rockstars.

This is a second-chance romance. It’s safe from cheating, but the H does break the h’s heart. His reason is because of his kids, but if you hate a second-chance romance or aren’t open to forgiving bonehead H’s… Then, you might want to skip because it’s pretty much the entire plot.

Kane Hades is the lead singer of the world-famous rock band Killing Hades, and Sadie owns a flower shop. The two are very much in love and engaged when a tragedy causes Kade to break up with her. The book starts with the breakup, Kade panics and breaks things off with Sadie the same day. Then, we fast-forward 6 months into the future to a miserable Kade when he receives an emergency call about Sadie.

I was glued to my kindle during the first part, but then it started to get boggled down with going back to the beginning (of their relationship) and making our way back, split in-between the present. I’m not a huge fan of this dynamic, because I get bored easily, and I want to get to the good stuff…the present where all the angsty goodness is. So, I ended up skimming, ergo the 3 ⭐⭐⭐’s.

BUT, if you love angst, and are more patient with flashbacks then I would suggest it because there are a lot of ingredients for an angsty stew. ✅ H that fucks up, but not unforgivable. (not cheating) ✅ Loads of “good grovel” (actions not just words.) ✅ h that doesn’t immediately forgive. ✅ Buckets of drama via a crazy ex and bratty kids. ✅ Short separation (6-mths) There’s also a mild soapy feel with the OTT dramatics of the ex, kids, and even the dad.

Bottom Line- I really liked it and would’ve rounded up if I hadn’t skimmed so much of the middle. There’s a cute epilogue 3 years out w/ updates. The next book is Tess’s, the instigator for all the drama. I know she’s just a teenager, (it’s confusing because it says she’s 13, but that must’ve been when they started dating because she says next year when I go to college and she drives, so I think she’s 17) and has had it rough with her crazy mom, but she was so deceitful and abrasive that I find it hard to believe that her personality would miraculously change. Case in point, the other sister, Hannah, who has an equally shitty mom, but doesn’t act like a spiteful bitch to everyone. Plus, I hold grudges with my fictional villains, so I won’t be reading hers. 😋

.
I did enjoy it but skimmed a fair bit of the first 2/3rds.
Kaden and Sadie fall in love but his evil ex-wife throws a spanner in the works and Kaden falls for it like a fool. Sadie steps back like a martyr. Add in unhappy childhoods for both Kaden and Sadie, and his two messed up kids from his first marriage.
I do love second chance romances, but they are often plagued with rashes of flashbacks. This story suffered from that in the first half.
I liked the character growth in the last third of the story, of Kaden, Sadie and Kaden's kids from his first marriage.
He and Sadie met and she didn't fall into his lap like most women but demanded they spend time together. They fall in love and are together for several years when the ex wife decides to manipulate him through his kids.
When Sadie is grievously injured in a car accident, Kaden comes charging to her rescue hoping for a second chance and regretting shutting her out.

The two stars are because I hated how neither of them (Kaden or Sadie) made any effort to save their relationship and work together through the crisis. I did feel that Kaden was very sorry and he grovels nicely. Sadie doesn't forgive him easily. The other thing that disappointed me was

Safety is good

OK

I dont know where to start on this book...

Mega amount of time reading about dude trying to get the heroine. It was over the top and made me wonder how he could manage doing so much while being some sort of rock star. All his time was about her, his songs (Which lyrically were just too much)... And so it goes until she finally opens up her hollier than thou heart to him.

Then shit hits the fan and all the blame goes to her and he breaks up with her instead of fixing it? When in fact, there was nothing there to suggest it was her fault his daugher did what she did. He let the woman he spent all this time fighting over and writing cheesy songs about, GO. WTF?!

Fast forward to tragedy than he wants all in again.

Blah blah... Guys this for me was over the top BS melodrama. Hero was a mule and heroine was too saintly.

I don’t think I could ever come up with the right words that would do this book justice! Emotional, surprises, angst, hate, love, jealousy, but most of all hope are just some of the words that come to mind when I reflect on this beautiful book!

From the first page to the very last Claudia takes you on an emotional roller coaster that just doesn’t let up till the very end! It’s a reflective journey through not just romantic relationships but all the relationships around us that help shape who we are!

Both Kaden and Sadie have seen the beautiful and the bitter ugly of said relationships and have done what they can through life to survive! Neither one expected the other but both got more than what they ever could’ve dreamed of!

If there’s one book I recommend you read this year it’s definitely My One Regret!

My One Regret by Claudia is a must read of 2018.
This story ian emotional ride between present and past. You'll laugh and you'll cry so bring the tissues. She ad me in tears from the start but couldn't put it down unless I had to, it's that good.
Claudia has such a way with making you feel the emotions as she brings her characters to life. Claudia just oozes passion in her stories, this is my second read of hers and I'm hooked for more.
A rockstar and a florist is who you'll fall in love with in this story of second chances. Kaden falls for Sadie one night as he's playing an acoustic concert at a coffee shop. He wants to know her more so he tries to just be friends. Sadie tries to get a hook-up for her friend with Kaden but he isn't into her friend and Sadie isn't into dating. Will Sadie give Kaden a chance once she gets to know HIM?
Chemistry to believe in 5 rocking stars for this one.

Kaden and Sadie .
Claudia has once again pulled me in and taken me on a wild emotional ride.
Relationships are difficult and sometimes you need to let go and to take care of what you think is right. Thinking that yes i will go back and make that relationship better. Although what if the unthinkable happens and you are not able to complete that journey with that person? This is going to take you on a trip through the beautiful, the ugly , the promises and the wait at a second chance that you think may never come! Loved it , so emotional and beautiful !

The hero discarded the heroine as yesterday's trash because his older daughter hated her and tried to kill herself because of their relationship - the girl needed serious help-.

Some weeks later the heroine is in a coma and the hero remembers all the beautiful things between them and he never leaves her side -so yeah, right, now u want her...-.
Anyway, the dialogues are stupid, and the entire book is made of memories from the beginning until the present.

There is a reason I always go into Claudia's books blind. It's because I know I'll love it and I just love the surprise I get from not knowing one iota of the storyline. I was hooked from page one. Yes, from page one.

Kaden Hades was definitely not looking for "The One". Being a famous Rockstar who was badly burned by is ex he was definitely not looking for anything permanent. Sometimes the stars align and our heart collides with our soulmate. When he sees the girl at the coffee shop he feels the pull and he knows he has to meet her.

"She knew the words to every song. While I sang, it was like it was just the two of us feeling the music and keeping the tempo. I itched to touch her beautiful face. I was dying to learn her name, listen to her voice."

Sadie has been let down many times by important people in her life when they walk away. She won't settle and she definitely doesn't want a hookup with a Rockstar no matter what she felt in his presence.

"I'm tired of putting myself out there and getting my heart shredded by players who have a menu of women to choose from."

For Kaden the chase is on because he has never come close to what he is feeling for Sadie and if that means he has to be her friend then that's what he'll do to earn her trust. Sadie finally lets him in only to be shredded when he walks away. Kaden knows he has made the biggest mistake of his life letting Sadie go and when news of her accident reaches him he knows he'll do anything to prove to her he is the man she is meant to be with. What follows is a recount of the story of Kaden and Sadie as Sadie fights for her life and Kaden fights for his, because without Sadie he might as well be dead.

The story of Kaden and Sadie is filled with so much emotion. It runs the gamut of love, trust, distrust, heartache, heartbreak, family and hope.

My hope is that you read this breathtaking story and get swept away by the words on every page.

My One Regret will take you on an emotional journey. A tsunami of emotions - from falling in love to heartbreak to healing. The raw vulnerability Claudia Burgoa shows is breathtakingly beautiful. Reminding us that sometimes with love there is pain.

I beta read this book at it's early stages. I re-read after all editorial changes were made. The best thing about Beta reading for Ms. Burgoa, is that she takes a lot of suggestions and she is so easy and wonderful with beta read for.

After my re-read, the story is just as wonderful as my Beta read. Ms. Burgoa has a way to bring in the emotions from the prologue until the end.

This is Kaden and Sadie's story and boy will you have a roller coaster of emotions while reading this book. Ms. Burgoa holds no punches when it comes to the angst factor that this author loves delivering with each book.

A poignant beautiful story about family, love, and forgiveness. The term family usually has one perception for most people but this is why I fell in love with Claudia's stories from book 1 in the Unexpected series. Family can be made up by many different shapes and sizes and in some cases the love of a non-blood family member is so much more meaningful, permanent, and unconditional than that of a blood relative.

That is the case in My One Regret. Kaden and Sadie both come from broken homes albeit different socioeconomic environments that bring them together to forge a bond that is unconditional, even if they do not know it at first. There are factors in their lives that come between them that threatens their future but through love and persistence, they persevere.

The beginning of the book has you bawling your eyes out. I was so angry with Kaden I wanted to smack him upside the head. I love the fact the beginning of the book is succinct and to the point, no dancing around these characters. Sadie had a huge heart that did not trust easily but when she did, she loved hard and deep. It took Kaden a while for her to finally get trust him. After being together for three years they were engaged to be married. Then because of a traumatic situation with one his daughter he throws everything she ever gave him away, he throws her away. It isn’t until Sadie’s accident and the unexpected surprise awaiting Kaden at the hospital where he starts his epiphany. He knows deep down that this is where he belongs and he will do everything in his power to not only fix what he has done to their lives but to keep his family together. He has no idea how he is going to accomplish that but he is determined to try.

Even though Kaden has a successful career in the music business with his rock band Killing Hades, he struggles in his personal life. He has two daughters that he adores and refuses to turn his back on but struggles because his ex-wife uses his daughters to manipulate him. Throughout the book, Kaden finds out the horrific deeds his ex-wife uses to manipulates his daughters to get to him. Not caring that her deeds weren’t only hurting Kaden but her daughters in the process. The chosen choice of child abuse the ex uses is psychological as was the case with Sadie's parents. Hidden, as is the case for most children, Kaden does not know of the extent of his ex-wife's manipulations until it is almost too late.

Lovely is the relationship between Kaden and Sadie. Their chemistry and love is tangible throughout the book. Even when Sadie was being cautious, her inner thoughts gave her away. There they built the foundation they were going to need to forge through the hard times that were ahead of them. I'm not usually a fan of present/future formats in books but I truly enjoyed this one. The story flowed and soon I feel like I was seeing a movie. I could not put it down. The unexpected arrival of Kieran was a blessing that brought the entire family together.

This is a good start to a series. Would love to read Tess’ and Hannah’s stories. Maybe even Jax.

I was honored with an advance readers copy in return for an honest review.

Right from the very start this book drew me in. Two people.... living a lie. Going day by day, and are slowly dying on the inside. No spark left in them, until they meet for the very first time.

A Rocker, and a young girl that will find homage in his heart.

Love, sex, pain, and heartbreak.
These two live for the angst, and drama bestows upon them. But their love for one another will hold firm.

****
My One Regret was a bittersweet read that made my heart pitter patter.
