“Beaches In Paradise” moves quickly and has one surprise after another as far as plot twists! T.J. Jensen and her boyfriend, Kyle Donovan, work together closely to locate a missing woman plus figure out who she’s been secretly working for and what’s in the encrypted file on her computer that even software expert/hacker Kyle can’t even break into. Then, there’s the question of why a dead man was found in her car? This mystery is first rate with a lot of suspects roaming around Paradise Lake. I like T.J.’s family, and I like that she and Kyle are growing closer—they make a great couple. Pet lovers will enjoy the animals in the story.

This book makes excellent lecture for the holidays: cozy (as far as murdercan be cozy:-)), fast, written ok and not obvious.

However: I got annoyed about the way women were treated and behaved. Felt like i was back in time...

“Beaches in Paradise” earns 5/5 Suspicious Secret Files…Clever!

Tj and boyfriend Kyle Donovan are enjoying a bonfire kicking off the Summer Festival. Their relationship has become more serious over the past few weeks and the idea of moving to a more intimate level has occupied their thoughts. However, seeing Deputy Kate Baldwin approaching them causes concern. “Do you know Gina Roberts?” led to questions of her whereabouts and connection to Striker Bristow, a developer who had earlier been a suspect in the death of a local judge. But, now he’s dead, bullet in his back, found in Gina’s car smashed up against a tree, and Gina? Nowhere to be found.

Kathi Daley has another “Hit in Paradise!” In my experience, cozy authors all have their own style to show the investigative method used by their lead character, but I've noticed some have the characters just go off willy-nilly seeking answers often ignoring official channels. I cringe sometimes when I feel it isn't want real people would do, even if it is a fictional world. However, Kathi Daley’s style has a more realistic approach. She has her characters, like Tj, using critical thinking strategies, mapping or recording clues, informally approaching witnesses and suspects, and working cooperatively with rather than circumventing law enforcement. Ok, Tj and Kyle did visit key scenes without permission, and is that evidence in her pocket? Daley’s settings are often small towns or small resort communities where residents are very familiar with each other. Therefore being family of or friends with local police, and in return, police recognizing a private citizen is helpful to their mission provides an engaging realism that I enjoy. Did I mention she always incorporates “fur” friends?

Review:

The characters are well developed and well rounded. I always look forward to spending time with this author’s characters, they are people I would like to be friends with. Tj and Kyle have a special relationship and they are growing closer. But before they can have a special romantic weekend, they have to solve two mysteries, a murder and a kidnapping. Hopefully they are up to the task and can still have some alone time together.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick easy read. The author is very talented in both her descriptive writing and creating wonderful small towns. This combination draws the reader into the book and takes them along on a delightful journey.

As I said before, there are two mysteries to solve in this book, which happens often with this author. There were plenty of suspects to consider and clues to sift through. Throw in some twists and turns and they were not easy to solve, which is how I like my mysteries.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. With a great cast of characters, two mysteries to solve, adorable dogs and romance, you are sure to love this book.

TJ is looking forward to some alone time with boyfriend Kyle, her sisters are off on a camping trip with friends and her father has gone to get some physical therapy from the accident that he is still recovering from. While at a gathering for teachers TJ is questioned about a friend and learns that she is missing and a man was found shot in her car. With the help of Kyle she decides to investigate and figure out just what happened and hopes to find her friend along the way. Her favorite cop Roy is out of town so she knows that she has to be careful and can't let the newest member of the force know that she is looking into things. No one cared for the dead man, he was trying to build a strip mall in the area and most people weren't happy about it, but why kidnap her friend? As TJ gets further into the investigation she learns her friend was working with the man, she had a half brother TJ had never heard of, and that she had some hidden secrets on her laptop. Nothing makes sense to her and she begins to wonder how well she knows her friend. Follow along as TJ and Kyle sneak into a house, break into a computer store, and go to the scene of the crime in hopes of finding some much needed answers into what really happened and why. As always the author delivers a fun whodunit that will have you looking at everyone and jumping from suspect to suspect.

A good friend of TJ's is missing and things aren't looking good for her so TJ & Kyle go on the hunt to unravel the multiple threads of the mystery to see if they can find Gina in time. I love these characters as they are so real that you feel like you are visiting old friends and not just reading a story. The plot of this particular book in the series is a multi-layered level of mysteries and personal stories intertwined to make an extremely entertaining read. I can't wait to see what is happening next!

This is book 9 in the TJ Jensen series and it’s a good one. TJ’s friend is missing and police think she may have killed a developer who wants to change their small ski resort town. TJ and Kyle search for Gina and eventually find her in an abandoned cabin tied up and unconscious. TJ and Kyle are moving along in the Romance department and with school soon starting they want the murder solved. Good cozy mystery with a solution that is well written and exciting. I received a copy of this arc in exchange for a fair and honest review.

No one likes real estate developer Striker Bristow, so there are a lot of suspects in his murder. However, his body is found in the car of Gina Roberts, TJ's friend and fellow teacher, which is very surprising, and gives TJ and new boyfriend Kyle reason to investigate her disappearance.

This is one of the better TJ Jensen Paradise Lake mysteries. The mystery has a lot of layers and depth, and there are enough misdirects to keep most readers guessing until the end. Plus, the personal details about TJ's new relationship with Kyle, and the amazing cast of supporting characters make this a great book.

I was excited to return to Paradise Lake and visit with TJ and family. Another festival is starting, but since TJ's dad, Mike, was in an accident, the resort isn't as actively involved this year. That leaves time for TJ to move around town more and focus on her social (OK love) life. She and long time on again off again Hunter are no longer on which opened the door for feelings to be explored between TJ and best friend Kyle. While the feelings are mutual and gaining ground, life keeps getting between any "alone time." Just as they hope to move their relationship to the next, more intimate level, a life or death situation occurs that TJ can not ignore.

This is a clean read with equal parts, mystery, romance and loyalty for friends and family.
The suspect list is smaller than in some cozies but that doesn't mean the mystery is easier to figure out. While this story is a continuation of earlier books in the series, all in filled in as we read so you won't be lost.

Can TJ find her friend in time? Will she and Kyle find time for each other? Is there more going on than at first suspected?
Another fun visit to a loved series. Even with tense moments, I enjoyed following TJ's investigation.

I liked this, but it's not my favourite in the series, and I'm not loving the fractious relationship Tj has with the new female police officer - it pushes a bunch of my cozy crime buttons. It's always a bit of a balancing act for me with the amateur detectives about why they're getting themselves involved and what the authorities think about it and for me, having a character who's always telling Tj to stay out of the investigations and threatening her with (justifiable) consequences to meddling tips it over into the "why are you doing this" and "stop breaking the law" end of the spectrum. And Tj gets up to some dubious stuff in this. I actually feel sorry for the poor lady police officer who is constantly having her working relationship with her partner undermined by Tj's interference. They need to sort this out or I think I'll have to check out of this series.

Beaches in Paradise is the ninth book in Kathi Daley’s Tj Jensen Mystery series and is an excellent read. Ms. Daley is an amazing author who captures her reader’s attention with intriguing mysteries, well-plotted storylines, and three-dimensional characters. There are twists and turns and a long list of potential suspects to keep the reader engaged. The characters are well developed and the story flows along at a steady pace. Even though a murder occurs in this book, there is still a lot of focus on family, friends, and community. While this book is part of a series, Ms. Daley provides sufficient character background so that it can be read as a standalone. This cozy series has become one of my favorites, and I'm looking forward to the next book. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading well-crafted cozy mysteries.

Tj Jensen is a coach and physical education teacher at Serenity High School, lives and works part-time at her family’s lakeside resort, Maggie’s Hideaway, and is raising her two half-sisters, Ashley and Gracie. Tj’s been busy preparing for the upcoming Summer Festival at Paradise Lake and looking forward to spending a romantic weekend with her boyfriend, Kyle Donovan. She’s arranged for a reduced work schedule and her best friend Jenna Elston, is taking her daughters, Ashley, and Gracie camping. While attending a bonfire Serenity High School sponsors for the staff before each school year begins, Deputy Kate Baldwin, who’s trying to locate Gina Roberts for questioning in the murder of Striker Bristow, one of the high school’s math teachers, approaches Tj and Kyle. When TJ learns her friend is missing and possibly injured, she teams up with family members and friends to find Gina and quietly look into Striker’s death.

Another wonderful book in this series! There are plenty of twists and turns that will keep you engrossed in the story. This is a well-written cozy mystery.

Tj’s been preparing for the Summer Festival and spending a weekend with her boyfriend, Kyle. There is a murder and one of TJ's friends is a possible suspect. The new hire at the Serenity Sheriff's department, Deputy Kate Baldwin doesn't appreciate help from non-police personnel. While TJ has helped out the Serenity Sheriff's department in the past, but Deputy Baldwin doesn't want TJ involved and has threatened to arrest TJ for hindering an investigation should she get involved. But, as TJ learns that a friend is missing and might be injured, she feels compelled to investigate, and quietly teams up with family and friends to find the missing friend and look into the murder.

It is the current last in the series and was on my to-read list as TJ is finally getting together with Kyle and they are trying to figure out their relationship without her sisters around getting too attached.

While they are at a welcome back for the school year event for teachers, Kate, the newest deputy, shows up wanting to know where TJ's friend Gina is and finally says that there was an accident with her car and that she is a person of interest in the murder of her passenger.

TJ feels the need to find Gina and help her prove her innocence in the death of the developer. Kyle helps her and they work together to get to the truth.

Fun story and while suggestions of their activities are made, it doesn't go into details (a good thing as I was listening around my girls).

Writing flows nicely and there are enough suspects to keep you guessing. Another great cozy mystery from Kathi Daley.

August is wrapping up summer activities. Tj Jensen & Kyle Donovan have decided to take their relationship to a new level but life keeps getting in the way. Tj & Kyle investigate the disappearance of their friend, fellow teacher Gina Roberts. The death of developer Striker Bristow adds another layer of suspects.

Best read in sequence but I believe you could read this as a stand alone as background on each character is lightly touched upon in this episode.

This is a fast paced story that reads very quickly. I'm a fan of this series and the stories are always well written and entertaining.
Tj is hoping for some quality time with her boyfriend, but when a friend disappears, she can't help but help look into things.

When you read a book in the Tj Jensen Mystery Series, you can count on a solid cozy mystery with likable main characters, strong family ties, and a good plot. Beaches in Paradise is a no exception. Maggie’s Hideaway is a family owned resort on Paradise Lake where Maggie works part-time when she is not busy as the local P.E. teacher and soccer coach. Maggie is also raising her two half-sisters and slowly developing her relationship with Kyle. Both enjoy functioning as a team to help solve local mysteries. What Maggie doesn’t enjoy is her confrontational encounters with Paradise’s new deputy Kate who warns Maggie off of amateur sleuthing and displays subtle hints of interest in Kyle.

Maggie involves herself in a murder and disappearance when an unpopular businessman is found dead in a wrecked car and her friend Gina is nowhere to be found. I had to suspend belief a little in considering the lengths Maggie went to find Gina. The action would have been more convincing if more background on Gina and Maggie’s two year friendship had been provided. Gina teaches math and Maggie P.E. at the local high school.There are no further details to support the strong bond they are supposed to have.

Plot is one of the main strengths of Beaches in Paradise. Three-fourths of the way through the book, after many interviews and lots of twists and turns, a huge part of the mystery is solved and everyone breathes a sigh of relief. There is more suspense to come, however, and it extends quite engagingly all the way to the second surprise ending. This is a solid series and one you will enjoy.

Beaches in Paradise is Kathi Daley’s 9th book in her Tj Jensen Mystery series. As the story begins it is late July and just a few weeks before the new school year is set to begin. Tj and boyfriend Kyle Donovan are at a faculty party held on the beach by Paradise Lake held each year. Deputy Kate Baldwin arrives, first speaking with the principal, then seeking out Tj to ask some questions regarding her friend and colleague Gina Roberts.

It seems there has been an accident. Gina’s car has been found wrapped around a tree. The driver is missing although there is a lot of blood on the seat. The passenger, disreputable developer Slider Bristow, is dead in the passenger seat, but it was a bullet in his back rather than the accident that did the misdeed.
Gina, obviously injured, is missing and Tj and Kyle set out to find her even though Kate warns them not to interfere with her investigation.

With so many twists and turns you will feel the effects of a roller coaster ride, Ms. Daley once again spins a delightful cozy mystery that will have you reading as fast as you can to uncover what has happened to Gina, which of Striker’s dastardly deeds has led to his demise, and where Tj’s new relationship will lead her.

Ms. Daley’s characters are rich and multidimensional. The setting is the beautiful alpine area not far from Reno. The plot is as twisted as they get. This is the perfect series to feed the mystery lovers cravings. For all of these reasons, I do recommend this book!

I’ve read and enjoyed this series from the beginning. With this new book, “Beaches in Paradise”, Kathi Daley has come up with an interesting and fun mystery (actually, two for the price of one, which kept me guessing pretty much until the end.)

While I enjoyed solving the mysteries along with TJ, I felt like her relationship to Gina (one of the victims) was stretched pretty far to justify her involvement in solving the crime. Also, something I have problems with in a mystery, is a sleuth who steps too far into an investigation to the point of removing clues one step ahead of the police arriving, and somehow justifying the hampering of a legal investigation. TJ does this more than once in this story. She’s actually called out on both of these issues but finds a way to deflect her friends and families concerns.

Not so much for me as a reader. However, these are two small issues but ones that I think the author might want to be aware of as she writes further stories in this series.

The story involves a murder and a missing person. TJ and her boyfriend Kyle are interrupted by both as they seek to spend their first weekend together and their personal plans get set aside.

There are a lot of clues and red-herrings. Old friends show up and new friends are made. It is a good story, even with its issues, and one that makes me happy to look forward to the next installment in the series.

Don't let my start and end dates fool you. Really. I would have finished this book in one day if I'd let myself. Then, I forgot. Several times. It's a good thing that Hoopla will pick up where you left off after a book is returned. ;)

I always have a lot of fun with these books. TJ and Kyle are two of my favorite people. Even her sisters seem like really cool kids. Even though the storylines can be a bit predictable, they're so much fun that it's easy to feel like you're with a group of old friends rather than hearing the same old story. I love how you can feel how much everyone cares for one another, even when they may not really like each other at one point or another. It's like you're there. Unlike other series I've read, TJ actually works to solve the crimes, much to the chagrin of some people. She's smart and always willing to help her friends and family.

Overall, it's just an enjoyable series. I'm happy to see that there will be another book!

The more I read this series, the more annoyed I get. If it was written in Deep POV, we would be spared dthe constant, "I could tell that....", "I assumed that..." and other bad phrasing that is needed to compensate for a first person POV nove's inability to provide some basic info.

And as I've said before, TJ doesn't actually solve mysteries or deduce anything. She wanders around, asks questions and eventually stumbles upon the killer, who confesses.

This book especially annoyed me because TJ was so obsessed with finding her "good friend Gina" it was all consuming even though TJ doesn't know a lot of basic things about her "good friend."

One saving grace -- this book, unlike prior ones -- had very little Ashley and and Gracie. In the first few books, I liked TJ's much younger half-sisters but as time passes in the books, Gracie still acts like a far younger child than she should be while Ashley has become a brat. Less was definitely more.

Beaches in Paradise by author Kathi Daley is another adventure in sleuthing with Tj Jensen. TJ is still helping with her fathers resort while he is recovering from wounds he received during their last mystery caper. TJ is getting closer to Kyle and she wants the perfect romantic interlude with him to be a very special experience. I appreciated how emotionally invested TJ was to make sure this would be a time to remember with Kyle.
Her plans for romance go a bit awry when an accident reveals Striker Bristow has been murdered and his body was found in her friend Gina Roberts car. Where is Gina? Did she kill Striker? Is Gina hurt and hiding? The mystery has several possibilities as to what has happened. Beaches in Paradise is a cozy mystery with wonderful characters!

TJ really bothered me during this book. These books were always a quick and fun read but TJ annoyed me all the way from the start when she yelled at Kyle for “keeping” a matter of public record from her. If she were that interested, she could attend the town council events. She was behaving like an insane person, bursting into anger, and pretending she was closer than she really was to Gina. I think she’s a jerk when it comes to Kate. I understand it is frustrating for her that Kate isn’t letting her run head first into danger, but TJ is not a cop. I was on her side until she mentioned that it was a competition and I was out. Kate is right, TJ breaks the law and removes evidence from the crime scene, but thinks Kate is pigheaded. I don’t know if I’ll read the next book, because of how immature TJ seemed.

Kathi Daley's ninth Tj Jensen mystery, Beaches in Paradise, is a fun cozy mystery! It has an interesting murder mystery and a hint of impending romance! Tj and Kyle are doing their best to figure out what happened to Tj's friend Gina Roberts. Gina was involved in a car accident and then just disappeared. A male victim, Striker Bristow, was found in her abandoned car, dead from a gunshot wound! Now Deputy Kate Baldwin is asking questions and threatens to arrest Tj if she hinders the investigation. I was impressed by the amount of information that Tj and her friends were able to compile and the timeline of events that they were able to put together. They left no stone unturned! This book has a couple of surprises and a steady pace that kept me turning the pages to see what happened next!

Maybe I just wasn't in the mood and/or cranky, but I didn't enjoy this installment ad much as the others. Part of it was less time spent on the side characters I really like (sisters, dad, and grandpa), even though I do like Kyle, and the fact that I enjoy the resort town events that usually go on on the background. The other part of it was the main character's insistence on stubbornly persisting on investigating despite it possibly being dangerous and/or contaminating evidence. I mean, I dont go into cozy mysteries expecting realism, but I unexpectedly found myself siding with the new deputy who is annoyed that TJ goes in half-cocked and the whole town thinks it's great because of her "intuition" and that she "cares about people," as if that's sufficient.

Not your average cozy. Ms Daley has many twists, turns and misdirections to keep you hopping. This is a fast read. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. A kidnapping, a murder, and some romance. Are the kidnapping and murder related? Could be. Will the kidnap victim become the second victim? Or someone else?

What will happen? Will TJ be arrested for interfering in Kate’s investigation(s)? TJ won’t stop until they find Gina.

I recommend this book if you like to think through the puzzles and see if you can solve all the mysteries introduced.

Great mystery

This is another great mystery by Kathi Daley. In book 9 of the T.J . Jensen series, T.J. And Kyle are trying to find time for a romantic weekend when they discover that their friend is missing and the town scoundrel is dead in the missing woman's car. If course T J and Kyle begin searching for her and soon there are several possible suspects and there is also a case of possible espionage as well. This is a fast paced mystery that is a quick easy read. I couldn't out this book down. Another winner by Kathi Daley.

This is the 9th book in the TJ Jensen mystery series and doesn't disappoint. It keeps you interested and turning the pages to see what happens next. There is an auto accident with a dead body in the car and TJ's good friend Gina is missing. So amateur sleuth TJ and her boyfriend Kyle try to figure out what happened and where Gina is even though she is told to stay out of it. The plot is very well written with lots of twists just when you think you might have it figured out. It has great characters, lots of family and friends with a just a little romance. It's an enjoyable beach read.
