A Discourse on Method

Rate this book
A Discourse on Method is a paranoid theory and a counterfactual history of American method acting, conducted in two parts. The first is Shonni Enelow's account of a journey into the churning guts of the Method archives; the second is David Levine's monologue Edition of Eight, delivered by an artificial human. Illustrated throughout with spiritual, conspiratorial, and documentary images.

A complete pleasure to read! Making fun of the Method is so much fun, honestly. Enelow is, of course, a scholar of the Method, and Levine's monologue really just mocks it relentlessly. Both do so with deep, probing, philosophical questions.

Love Shonni Enelow, love whenever she's on a podcast and her book is amazing. David Levine is also fantastic, and this book does a great job of working out the speculative and psychoanalytic limits and foundations of method acting.
