When David Briggs became a dragon, he never realized that he'd have the power to break the cruel chains binding the universe's most powerful, and beautiful, warriors to their vicious high priestess. Now, having freed the Left Hand of the High Priestess, he'll set his eyes on a prize so great it could turn the tide of war, and what's more, it's guarded by a woman so fierce, freeing her may be an even greater prize. For most anyone else, that would be impossible, but when you're a dragon, it just means more payback is coming. Please Note: This book contains a harem.

When New York Times Bestselling author, J. A. Cipriano was in second grade, his teacher gave everyone in class a journal to write down whatever they wanted. Their first subject was to write about something they didn’t like. J. A. chose to write about why he didn’t like writing. His reasoning was simple. He had bad handwriting. Even then, he was destined to be an engineer due to his messy scrawl.

Unfortunately, he found through the course of this little adventure that he actually liked writing. That year was sort of the high point for his writing career because he won a writing contest for the state. He got to go to a big dinner and his teacher was all dressed up.

He kept writing little stories, year after year, and in sixth grade, won another contest. In seventh grade, he broke his arm and got the cast signed by both Dean Koontz and Stan Lee. It is, by far, the coolest cast he’s owned. That was about the time he found video games and anime. His writing turned mostly toward fanfiction until about ninth grade when he wrote his first novel, a small book about twenty thousand words called Revelations. In sophomore year, he wrote two more books to complete the trilogy because he saw Star Wars that year and learned trilogies were the cool thing to do.

He rewrote Revelations during his senior year, and his wife swears it is the best thing he’s written. J.A. is not so sure. Every time he reads it, he cringes, but then again, he hates everything he writes, so there is that.

It was about that time, he got heavily involved in a fanfiction writing group, but that isn’t one hundred percent accurate. It was a world based on a popular anime but everything was created especially for this world. It made it so that every story someone wrote was unique.

Imagine writing a Star Wars novel set 1,000 years after A New Hope, where everything that happened was a distant memory and you get the idea. You have the force, some distant memories of the past, and that’s pretty much it.

He wrote about a million words (863K to be exact) for them before he decided to do his own thing. He wrote another novel. He put it in a drawer. He wrote another one that eventually became the basis for The Hatter is Mad. His next novel was Kill It With Magic, his first real novel. It’s not bad, but it’s bumpy. This is unfortunate because the books get loads better as the series progresses.

Since then, he’s written six more novels, four of which are in the Lillim Callina Series, and one in the Abby Banks series. The other is stuck in a drawer for time undetermined. He’s writing his next book now which is about werewolves fighting mummies in Ancient Egypt. After that, he will move onto Abby Banks 2. The Spy Within will come out in June or July.

J.A. also has three chinchillas. Two of them are grey, and because of this, they are named Slate and Cadmium. The third is named Jet because he’s black, and Jet is old English for black. See, creative. He also has a cat named Turtle. This does pose problems for his two-year-old from time to time.

Star Conqueror: Recompense: An Epic Space Harem Adventure by J.A. Cipriano is a book offered to me to read and the review is voluntary. I love this author's books and have been following him for a long time and his books are usually a sure 4 or 5 star read. The first book in this series I loved! This one I just enjoyed. Worth the read but it lacked that little something he normally puts in and I don't know what. Should you pick up book one? Yes. Pick up this one? Yes. It is certainly worth the read. It has plenty of action, adventure, humor, craziness, and steamy goodness. I will certainly want to read the next book. Lead on my Dragon!

This is a rather predictable harem story, that if was not for the fact that I like the characters, I would not have continued buying or reading these books. The first book in this series was better, and I wonder if the third book will be less than this one.

I dislike LitRPG material so I skim through it getting to the action. First half of this book drags, and there is far too much backstory and political wrangling and not enough shit blowing up and action. Second half of the book is much better when the action finally starts.

Cipriano writes good action scenes, describes characters and their abilities well and creates a vivid world. Great technology with reasonable results, and failures. MC is fallible, and not always always perfect which is a nice touch in this genre.

The pacing of this story is poor, and does not flow smoothly. Dialogue is ok, but could use some polishing. Not sure who edits his books, but the author made a few spelling mistakes where the word is spelled correctly (which spell checker will not catch) but used in the wrong place.

David Briggs became a dragon and suddenly found himself breaking the chains binding the most powerful and beautiful warriors from a vicious high priestess. He freed the Left Hand of the High Priestess but has decided to make a bold step in order to turn the tide of the war - he has decided to go for another of the high ranking women and free her (and those she currently rules under the High Priestess) in order to free even more people. Can he succeed and get the huge payback he will get from this success?

Goodness - lots of drama, danger and intrigue in this episode of the story of David Briggs and his growing harem of women to help him defeat the High Priestess. These stories have lots of twists and turns which definitely keep you on your toes as you read it. Well written with everything clearly explained and easy to feel and understand. As I mentioned there is a harem in this story but there isn't any overabundance of sex and intimacy.

I think I’ve finally hit that point. You know the one I mean, the one where you finally believe that no matter what an author writes, even if it’s the advertisement on the back of a cereal box, you will love it. It hit me as I was reading this book that I just really enjoy whatever it is that Mr. Cipriano writes. The book may not be my favorite genre, and I’m not referring to this one, but his way with words always draws me in. Specifically, this book was well-written, fun, and had a very engaging plot. I really liked the first one, and I loved this one even more. I can’t wait to see what comes next. If you love space adventures, give this one a try! Highly recommend! I was provided a complimentary copy of the e-book which I reviewed voluntarily.

I found book 2 to be just as much fun as book 1. Full of crazy fun scenes that just seem to work out in the end, this story had it all. A bit of suspense mixed in with a bunch of action, very funny scenes and one liners as David as his fearless crew take on a stronghold of the Matriarchy. The good guys are a blast to read about as they do what they do best. I did like that although it has a gaming feel to it but it is not bogged down with this format and does not distract from the overall story line. I found it to be entertaining and easy to read.

The fun continues.

The review I made for Book One of this series still holds true for this story. David continues his assault on the command staff of the Matriarchy as he fights to free the universe. Of course, he is not doing it alone and has found the right folks for the job. The story is a lot of relaxing fun, and I look forward to the next book.

This is my eighteenth read from author J.A. Cipriano. An enjoyable read with some aspects of the FRP genre, a different aspect is basing the book on a video game and then launching it into space. Enough I try not to do spoilers, buy the book, read the book, get into this enjoyable author as I have. I will say that this, the second book in the series is even better than the first!

Different

I've been reading Cipriano for a couple of years now and follow his books regularly. I'm not a gamer, so all of the gaming references were unusual to me. I still enjoyed the book and look forward to the next one in the series.

Good Read.

It picks up from the last book after down time is had. A big action is planned. Enjoyed the action with some more of the world’s history.
