The Divorce Diet

Rate this book
No one tells you life does not revert back to how it was before you exchanged vows.
Or how when your marriage ends, you aren't single.
Because, you are forever d-i-v-o-r-c-e-d.

It's not an achievement that goes on your resumé for the world to see but, it's there. The loss, the process, is personal.
It changes you. Pain changes you.
Not just your emotional state, but your physical appearance as well.
Ah, the infamous Divorce Diet.
If there was a 'look' for alone and insecure, I was it.

Alas, it was time to move on.
Armed with sexy outfits, liquid courage, and a handy app, I began dating.
Only my ex wasn't having it. In fact, he was so against the idea that he started showing up.
This was so crazy, so unlike him, so...alpha that I didn't exactly hate it.
Turns out, I truly didn't know my husband…until I divorced him.

(The Divorce Diet is a romantic comedy with a dash of suspense, dipped in foul humor and polished off with good ole' fashioned dirty s-e-x.)

There is probably almost no 'in between' with this author's books, you either enjoy or you don't like them.
I decided to like them *lol*

Unlike any other romance.
Always strong, bold and maybe even weird heroines; different definition of Alpha men - which I absolutely adore -> no sociopathic control freaks with wandering d*cks; but men, who absolutely devoted to their women, who don't fear to show their weakness and who prefer their soul-mates with a backbone!

In a nutshell: never a doormat, never a manwhore.

This book was a bit messy and a lot sassy. Absolutely safe.
He was a jerk and I struggled with his character at the beginning, but I never doubted his love for his wife.
Villain trope was odd or maybe I drunk too much last evening *lol*, but overall I enjoyed this rollercoaster, ups, I mean this book!

I can't continue because I think the Hero is a wimpy ass stupid mothertrucker who sabotages her EXWIFE's dates because he wants her back. I mean he waited a year, A YEAR to go after Her? Yeah like I said wimpy, coward ass. I didn't get to the reason why he treated her and hurt her. She didn't want to divorce him but that's what he deserves. He needs to walk barefoot in hot coal or broken glass for me to be able to at least talk him because if that were me I wouldn't forgive him. Yeah I'm a vengeful b*tch!! He sounded relieved or what because the judge granted the divorce.? Like I said he's a freaking coward.

“With Connie holding one hand and Bridget holding the other, I stood in that courtroom numb as the judge announced my marriage was over.
I could feel Eddie’s eyes on me and couldn’t bring myself to face him.
While I had hoped he’d fight for us, saying it was a mistake, that he didn’t want this, that he still loved me, I closed my eyes in pain when he thanked the judge.
Out. Loud.
The relief I heard in his voice was my undoing.
Just like that, I was no longer Mrs. Edward Ellis.
In front of a room full of strangers, I was officially divorced and heartbroken.
The love of my life let me go. No, fuck that. He threw me away. And I couldn’t run fast enough”

I loved this book. It was so funny and I loved how much the hero wanted her back. The scenes when he was trying to get her back and ruin her dates were hilarious. Now that does not mean there wasn't angst because the pain the h has been going through is hard to read about. At the beginning of each chapter there is a small flashback to the past and how they met and it was so cute too. And heartbreaking sometimes. He never really let her go because He really loved her. Why only four stars? Because the sex scenes to me were not romantic. They were raunchy like all the NA novels are and not my cup of tea. I just hated them and glossed over the details. And the middle part, around 43% mark, dragged a little. I was like get back together and let me go but then it picked up again and I am so happy I read it. I wish I was the heroine. She sounded uber cool and fun. I would totally hang out with her. Wonderful book in my opinion.

WOW! KELLY!! I knew I was in for a treat when Tara said "Dawn read this now. Don't wait." I'm glad I shelved the book I was reading and jumped in. Pharis and Eddie were amazing. And the humor and realness that K.S. brings to her writing always speaks to me. Tough women who can hold their liquor and talk sports. And men strong enough to hold their own with them. Humor, heart, friendship, and family. Loyalty, possessiveness an all around kick ass story.

This was cute.
The hero divorced the heroine but he can't let her go, and when she starts dating other men he tries in every way to sabotage her dates.
Then he tells her he wants her back.
The heroine was madly in love with him and was shattered by his rejection and couldn't understand why he left her.
There's actually a good reason behind his behavior, that is she was in danger because there was a serial killer who killed women who were similar in look to her.
The hero is obsessed with her but was willing to give her up to save her life.
The story was very entertaining with a touch of mystery, there's no angst involved after the first part of the book, and I lost interest because for me it was obvious who the killer was...
There's a lot of sex and I skimmed after some time, the language is very informal and slang with f word overuse. I'm not 13 any more and I don't really appreciate people near 40 talking like teenagers.
I liked that the heroine had a better and better paid job than the hero and he followed her to allow her career choices. Very sweet.
He is a good example of an alpha man who would do anything for his woman.
It was a quick and fun reading.

I wasn't 100% sure about this book, didn't know if it would be safe. But I shouldn't have feared, because this is K.S. Adkins. I loved this book, it was real and it felt alive. Looking forward to more of her work.

The heros excuse to leave and divorce the heroine was non sensible and overly dramatic. The “I have to hurt you to save you” plot line is ridiculous. So instead of just leaving right away, he decided to be cruel and neglectful to his wife for over 2 years instead. Makes sense right? AND THERE WAS NO FUCKING GROVEL. The heroine jut excepts the heros bullshit excuses and then tells him she should be more appreciative for what he’s “been through.”

Hero was a pussy and heroine was a doormat even though she’s convinced herself she’s a badass.

2 stars because it had one hot makeup sex scene.

My assumptions:

1. Hero divorced heroine for her own good.
2. He never said ILY to h during the marriage
3. He sabotages her dates because reasons, and even though they’re divorced, I dunno, she’s his still wife may be? So she’s not allowed to move on no matter how much of a dick he is.
4. Thorough humiliation and career sabotaging of heroine from hero’s end, but hey, they’ll be done in the name of love. He’s only trying to show her he loves her.
5. Heroine melts and totally accepts the divorce was her fault the moment they fall in bed.
6. May be the divorce wasn’t event real divorce? There were some glitches, so now they don’t have to remarry to qualify for HEA? (This one sprang from another book, but why the hell not?)

People who read the book, please feel free to prove me right or wrong!

She got married to her man who never even said “I love you” before, during or after their relationship.

Joke‘s on you, when he up and treats you like shit for two years and then divorces you. His “I had to keep you safe” bs. Doesn’t even apologise. When she tries to date, he ruins them. So you’ll divorce her but when she finally dares to move on, you’ll put her in supposed danger again when the threat hasn’t gone away? I’m sorry, I do not compute?! ://

Even when she tries dating HIM again, he doesn’t respect any of her boundaries caused BY him bc of the emotional damage. So where’s the respect?

Only thing I liked was her earning more than him.

Dnf somewhere around 60%. Was tired and didn’t have the patience for it.

KS breaks the mold!
With every book I read from her I have an expectation and she ALWAYS delivers.
She has the most unique story lines.
Pharis’ story is beyond what I could have guessed or tried to assume from the title.
Thanks for the ride. I loved the characters in this story. A sports personality isn’t your average female lead and she rocks.
Pharis’ friends are her rock and they are amazing support. I loved them all. True friends never leave even after a divorce.

Maybe it's the married chick in me talking, but I do not buy into this plot...

And that line made me sooooo mad against Eddie that whatever he decides to do later to win his ex-wife over, I will still despise him :
« The love of my life let me go. No, fuck that. He threw me away. »

So on to the next one (I am guessing he was blackmailed into leaving her or something, but still, nothing can justify deliberately hurting the one person who is supposed to always trust you.

Skimmed to the ending....I am adding 1 star because the reason for the divorce is "one that can be forgiven"...but I still believe the whole thing and the hurt it caused her was unnecessary (+ it solved nothing anyways...)

This book would have been better if the ex husband turned out to be the serial killer. Sad thing there, if he was, the door mat female MC would still visit him in prison every day. Pathetic.

I'm kind of surprised the author is female, because she writes women like a man.

Sadly neither character is enjoyable, as both have the same central personality trait: obsessed with each other.

Hmmm... That's not a personality trait you say? No. Shit. It's not a healthy relationship either. Whatcha gonna do?

Not be titillated by painfully predictable plot.

I can't imagine what awful books the people that rated this 4 and 5 stars have read. THAT is nightmare worthy. Poor things.

This is NOT what it looks like at first glance. It's actually quite sweet. Protective alpha and all that, lol. I mean, there were some big holes in his reasoning, but I could see where the author was trying to take us, so I let most of it go. There were NO OW, but the h was attracted to another man and made no excuses for her attraction, so if that bothers you, stay away. I thought I rated pretty high considering I'm more of an angst junkie and not the humorous writing type of gal.

Argh... This book could have been amazing. Sooo goddamn freaking awesome...

But then it all went downhill.
I felt for our heroine. Her husband was the perfect guy for her, they married, spent some wonderful years together but then he changed, he pushed her away, he made her lose all self-confidence, he hurt her in so many ways and I cried for her.
And then this asshole thinks he can just stalk her, interrupt her dates, keep her away from man? He thinks he can just come back and get her back after not talking to her for a whole year after their divorce?
And she is pretty great in the beginning, pushing him away, telling him to fuck off as she should but then, bam, he asks her to date him again and she just agrees????!!!!!! How? Why? She is broken for God's sake. And then she just accepts that?? Nooooooo
He didn't tell her any of his reasons for why he has to make her hate him. None whatsoever. And yet, she just agrees??

Over and out. I can't even...

But... Somehow I did read on and in some ways, it did get better.

The writing style itself was very good. I enjoyed reading this book per se.
It's just... The hero wasn't my kind of hero. In my view, he didn't grovel enough...
And the heroine quickly accepted that he couldn't be with her and I didn't buy that .
So all in all, I can't give more than 2 stars

After years of wedded bliss, Eddie mysteriously checks out of his marriage to Pharis, leaving her heartbroken and hollow. One year after the divorce, her friends convince Pharis is time to re-enter the dating game. Reluctantly, she agrees to try. Not wanting to give anything else away, I will only say that this story proves that the heart wants what it wants, even when the brain (and others) think it shouldn’t.
I have never been a big fan of second chance romance. Even so, The Divorce Diet (a real thing, btw) was everything I had hoped it would be from KS Adkins. She may convert me, yet. The pacing was fantastic. The chemistry was outstanding. I could feel the heartache, the laughter, and suspense of the story. The sexy times moved the story forward and revved my engine. They didn’t overtake the story or operate as filler. The Divorce Diet is lighter than other books I’ve read by Adkins but every bit as good. I read it in one sitting, completely neglecting my kids and housecleaning to do so.

Amazing

Wow again your awesomeness has been shown this book was brilliant I couldn't put it down at all ignored my husband and everything ;). I loved the characters Pharis and Eddie I felt for them both some much but Jesus were they smoking fricken hot when they were together. The story was amazeballs and the other characters added to it all to make this another awesome read I'm sort of hoping a little that Butch and Bridget may get a little story as I'm intrigued as to the back stories of them two. I've read all your books and they just keep getting better.

This is an odd one to review. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it, and I felt exactly the same way about the characters. At times they were fun and kept me engaged but at others I was tempted to skim. The final third was a little too hard to believe yet I pushed through to the finish line.

A solid 3 stars

Was supposed to be a book about how to date your husband/wife plus a healthy dose of a thriller story. It is neither. The woman is called superstar by everyone which I thought is weird. Their lives revolve around the said superstar. The serial killer's motivations are watery tea at the best. I wasn't sure why I was reading this by the end.

I’m so glad I bought this book. It’s perfect. I laughed, swooned and laughed some more. The characters main and secondary were all perfect. The story is perfect and the only thing I can complain about it I would like more. But there is no cliffhanger and it’s just wonderful.
